Today, we have a really special episode that takes us to the heart of high-stakes performance and leadership. Our Finding Mastery team recently had the incredible privilege of embarking on a unique mission: we flew to Japan and then took a cargo plane out to the USS Ronald Reagan, a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier currently patrolling the volatile waters of the South China Sea.Imagine being one of nearly 6,000 sailors and pilots on board, operating in an environment where tensions are high, and combat could become a reality at any moment. How do you maintain a state of constant readiness and cohesion? To address this challenge, our team – including Olympic mindset coaches Dr. Nicole Davis and Kaya Turski, UFC champion Vitor Belfort, and world-renowned climber Tommy Caldwell – conducted 12 intensive workshops. We worked with everyone from the Carrier Strike Group leadership to the pilots to the crew managing the nuclear reactors, focusing on resilience, adversity management, and high-performance mindset training. One of the many highlights of this extraordinary experience was sitting down with Captain Daryle Cardone and Captain Patrick Corrigan – the Commanding Officer and the Commander of the Air Group (CAG) respectively. Together, they represent over 50 years of military experience and leadership at the highest level. In our conversation, we explore their unique approaches to leadership in one of the most consequential environments imaginable. What may surprise you is that their command style isn't rooted in rigid military doctrine, but in something far more empathetic and human-centered.We dig into how they foster resilience, handle prolonged separation from family, and create an environment where every crew member can thrive under immense pressure. Their insights on mentorship, personal growth, and maintaining sustained high performance are not just applicable to military operations, but to any high-stakes environment. This episode offers a rare glimpse into leadership at sea and the mastery required to command a floating city of 6,000 souls. Whether you're leading a team, facing personal challenges, or simply interested in human performance, the lessons from Captain Cardone and Captain Corrigan are both profound and practical. With Fire,MG and the FM Team***The views expressed herein are solely those of the persons expressing them and do not represent the views of the United States, Department of Defense, or Department of the Navy.-----WATCH this episode on our YouTube channel.Connect with us on our Instagram.Order my book, "The First Rule of Mastery" HERE!For more information and shownotes from every episode, head to findingmastery.com.To check out our exclusive sponsor deals and discounts CLICK HERESee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Nicole David had aBrutal childhood at the hands of a mentally ill parent. Still she managed to scrap her way into a respectable career in the legal vertical and with Silicon Valley Corporate. At 52 Nicole realized that if she didn't leave Corporate America, she would likely end her life. It was a sobering realization, but Nicole knew she couldn't go on the same way she always had. Nicole floundered for a few years while trying to "find herself" but landed on working with kids as a behavior therapist. Nicole quickly realized that the 1:1 connection was gratifying, but she knew she could do more. Nicole decided to launch a nonprofit that introduces young people (those not destined for college) to the trades. The program focuses first on "Life Mastery" (communication, emotional regulation, financial literacy, etc.) and then on the trades. In our first year, we enjoyed a 71% placement rate of our graduates. Our students age 18-24 are locking in career starting positions making between $50K-$70K/yr to start. More than that, they're standing taller, more confident, and self-sufficient.www.fortitudecareers.org

3 years ago, Brett Stewart joined me for a discussion about the Star Wars franchise & fandom. This was post Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian Season 1. Our discussion was one of confusion and trying to figure out where Disney was going to take the franchise. Here we are, 3 years later, with a lot to discuss. We cover everything released the past 3 years. This includes: The Clone Wars: Season 7, The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Visions, The Mandalorian: Season 2, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, & Tales of the Jedi. Plus we talk about The Clone Wars & Star Wars: Rebels and their importance to current & upcoming shows. We also talk about upcoming shows like The Mandalorian: Season 3, Star Wars: Visions - Season 2, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and The Acolyte. Brett and I also discuss the return of movies to the Star Wars universe and talk about the various discussions and rumors of directors and writers who've been attached or mentioned in passing. There's a lot going on in the galaxy far, far away for the next few years. It's our last entry for this year's Movie-Ghoul-Round, and this time when You Did This to Us, you had us watch the serial killer thriller, The Snowman. It's pretty! It's frustrating! For our Movie-Ghoul-Round Around the World pick, Brett chose the eloquent true-to-life political horror film, La Llorona (no, not that terrible one with Velma and the bad haunted house prop, the good one from Guatemala). What did David and Nicole think of this tale of the consequences of denial -- denial of a family member's wrongdoing, denial of responsibility for genocidal acts, denial of the personhood of indigenous peoples? Come listen and find out. Today, Nicole interviews John Lyke - a close family friend of Nicole's as well as an actor and director from Los Angeles! Together, they talk about John's career, how it developed from a young age, and what it's become over the years. Here are a few takeaways from their conversation: [6:58] Everything's not as crazy as you might think or believe, you just kind of have to work at it every day[30:02] Sometimes, you need to change your mindset - in a scenario where you have everything right, you still don't feel great, it might be your frame of mind rather than anything else[46:59] If you're coming at a particular industry and fear going into it, you should still go for it regardless and overcome that anxiety, working on that fear-based mindsetHost: Nicole DavisonGuest: John LykeJohn Lyke is a New England native who has balanced most of his life between filmmaking and action sports. At age thirteen, Emmy award-winning cinematographer Bruce Taylor took John under his wing, and from there, he went on to Champlain College for filmmaking, where he would graduate as valedictorian. He left his professional snowboarding career when he moved to LA to make movies.Over his film career, he's worked as a video editor for companies like Hulu and Netflix, been a stuntman on blockbusters like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and an actor in #Millenials on Direct TV and Pure Genius on CBS. When it came time for Nicole to pick this Movie-Ghoul-Round's Future Classic, there was one candidate that was the most obvious: Hereditary. Ari Aster's slow-burning horrific tale of familial inevitabilities and selfish secrets had powerful performances and masterful moviecraft. It was David's first time (sorry not sorry!) and a second viewing for Brett. What was the verdict? Classic cinema, sporadically scary, or overhyped snoozefest? Listen in and find out! In our Movie-Ghoul-Round Can We Just Talk About..." slot, one of Brett's choices came up on our spinner, so we talked about Doctor Sleep. Inevitably, Brett, David, and Nicole spent some time on The Shining and how this film is handled as a sequel (including the recasting), how the movie stands in its own right with the new antagonists of the True Knot, and how it handles the new shining child, Abra Stone. And how well could screenwriter/director Mike Flanagan possibly pull off this juggling act? Email the show at hi@mgrpodcast.com. Find us online by heading over to mgrpodcast.com. IT BEGINS. Movie-Ghoul-Round 2022 is here! For our creepy New to Two, David eased us in with the family friendly Goosebumps movie. What did Brett and Nicole think? Did they find it surprisingly entertaining? (Hint: Yes.) What did we all think about the devious Slappy, the slavering werewolf, the giant praying mantis, and the diatribe about Stephen King? On this encore New to Two, Nicole introduced Brett and David to Quentin Tarantino's third feature film, "Jackie Brown." Featuring some of Tarantino's signature elements (clever dialogue, loving shots of a woman's feet, killer music choices) and deviating in equally significant ways (much less blood, a mature romantic element), "Jackie Brown" was only a modest success and one that a lot of fans have missed seeing. We asked questions like: Is this a modern blaxploitation movie? How are so many people getting shot in public with no one noticing? And WHAT is the deal with Samuel L. Jackson's hair? For this Movie-Go-Round Around the World, David selected Park Chan-Wook's The Handmaiden. This beautiful and twisty (and occasionally twisted) long-con tale wasn't an unqualified hit with all of us.
