This week, Jon speaks with C.J. Knudsen, Senior Vice President for the Vermont Lake Monsters. C.J. graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1992 and served as the Lake Monsters Assistant General Manager from 1997-1999 and the team's General Manager from 2000-2009. C.J. returned to the Lake Monsters in 2021 as Senior Vice President and has helped the team navigate the transition from MLB's minor league system to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. By all accounts, it's going well. In 2021, Knudsen was named Executive of the Year following the Lake Monsters' massively successful first season in the league, capped off with them winning the Futures League Championship. Two years ago, Major League Baseball cut the Vermont Lake Monsters. But the team has found great success in the all-collegiate Futures League, winning the first championship for a Vermont-based team in a quarter century.

Before her work with Fans First Entertainment, which began in 2011, Emily spent time with Ripken Baseball, the Augusta GreenJackes, the Vermont Lake Monsters, and the Binghamton Mets. The Nashua Silver Knights are the 2022 Futures League Champions! They defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters in an epic back-and-forth Game 3, including a go-ahead ninth inning home run by Kyle Wolff. We spoke with owner of the Silver Knights John Creedon, General Manager Cam Cook and Assistant General Manager Katie Arend and Field Manager Kyle Jackson about the Silver Knights and how each of them used the other to help will this title. In addition, we spoke with the MVP of the championship series Jack McDermott about his epic run in the playoffs and playing for this team from the start. The Vermont Lake Monsters may be one of the few professional teams in The Green Mountain State, but they also play in one of the oldest ballparks in all of Minor League Baseball. General Manager Joe Doud discusses some of the challenges with keeping up on fan expectations of ballpark experience, along with how the Lake Monsters have been able to drive attendance the last few years. Doud talks about engaging the fans as well as the Lake Monsters' own staff, by shagging a few balls in the outfield during batting practice, and making sure that every attendee feels like they are one of the family.
