How is the war with Iran impacting global oil prices—and could the Strait of Hormuz trigger the next energy crisis? In this episode, Lisa sits down with former U.S. Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette to break down the extreme volatility in the oil markets, the risks facing global shipping, and how energy traders are trying to price uncertainty during a geopolitical conflict. Brouillette explains why oil prices surged from the mid-$70s to $120 in just hours, how the Trump administration’s proposed $20 billion tanker insurance backstop could stabilize shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, and why the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is at a dangerously low level. He also reflects on how deregulation during the Trump administration helped make the United States a net energy exporter and what that means for energy security today. The conversation also explores the global implications of bringing Venezuelan oil back into the market, China’s reliance on discounted energy, and how geopolitical shifts could reshape the world’s energy supply. Plus, Brouillette discusses the massive power demand coming from AI and data centers, why nuclear energy may be the key to meeting future electricity needs, and how cybersecurity and quantum computing could transform energy infrastructure. Topics covered include: Why oil prices are swinging wildly during the Iran conflict The strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz Trump’s tanker insurance plan and global shipping risks The state of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Energy independence and deregulation under the Trump administration Venezuelan oil and China’s discounted energy supply The massive energy demand from AI and data centers Why nuclear power could be critical for America’s energy future A must-listen for anyone following energy markets, geopolitics, oil prices, and the future of global energy security.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dan Brouillette has always worked in creative fields—he was a professional photographer before launching Lumen in the waning days of the pandemic—but he's always been particularly attracted to the technical aspects of creation. Like every IPA-focused brewer, he's on a neverending search for the most expressive, layered, and interesting hops. But he's also found that the information upon which many brewers rely when choosing hop lots often tells an incomplete story. Total oil numbers can be misleading, as they include oils that don't survive the brewing process; hops that smell good relative to others at selection may not have high enough oil concentration to punch through in finished beer. Brouillette has found that using past chemical data paired with his own sensory can be far more effective when seeking out hops that are going to give him the impact he seeks. In this episode, Brouilette shares: how spreadsheets are often a better tool for selecting hop lots than the old-fashioned rub his process for earmarking specific hop compounds at certain thresholds to ensure they're effective in beer designing different types of hazy IPA that appeal to different use cases and drinkers achieving beautiful hop expression in hazy IPAs with less than 4 percent ABV brewing hazy IPA with only 40 percent base malt And more. “We're brewing our World Beer Cup beers right now, and those will be much different than a beer that I want to make Top Drops on Instagram,” Brouilette says. “They're just different audiences. We don't brew one type of hazy IPA. There are different segments and sub-styles within the style, and we brew all of those.” G&D Chillers G&D's new Elite 290 Micro-series runs on a Natural Refrigerant with near-zero Global Warming Potential—built for brewers who care about sustainability and performance. Former Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette joins Larry Kudlow to discuss the economic and geopolitical implications of Operation Epic Fury, a joint military action against Iran. Brouillette argues that while a short-term price spike in oil is inevitable due to contractual risks, the global market remains stable because increased American production and excess capacity from allies can easily offset Iranian supply. The conversation transitions into a critique of the previous administration's lax enforcement of sanctions, which allegedly allowed Iran to fund terrorism through oil sales to China. What happens when life doesn't just take a detour—but completely reroutes your future? In this deeply moving episode of Plucky Not Perfect, I'm joined by Erika Brouillette—mom, caregiver, advocate, podcast host, and founder of Reclaim: TBI Wives. Erika shares her story of becoming a full-time caregiver overnight when her husband suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, and how that moment reshaped her identity, faith, boundaries, and purpose. We talk about: Advocating for a child with special needs—and a spouse with a traumatic brain injury Becoming a caregiver in the middle of crisis (and COVID) Losing yourself in survival mode—and how to slowly reclaim who you are The permission many women need to care for themselves without guilt Setting boundaries after years of people-pleasing Finding hope when doctors give none Why community matters when no one else truly “gets it” Gratitude, faith, and recognizing glimmers of hope in the darkest seasons Erika also shares how her own healing led her to create a space for other women walking similar roads—women who are so often asked how their husband is doing, but rarely how they are. This conversation is for anyone who has found themselves living a life they didn't plan—and is learning how to keep going anyway. Amanda is a firm believer in taking charge of her own professional destiny and creating her own opportunities, including by actively developing connections with other patent law practitioners. Her brilliance, can-do attitude, and sunny disposition, which she brings to any task set before her, have helped her build strong relationships with mentors and sponsors within the firm, with clients, and with more junior attorneys whom she now supervises. In this episode, Amanda shares her insights about what it takes to build a successful career as a patent litigator. She also discusses the importance of communication and relationship-building for professional development. And she talks about the two-pronged approach that firms—and individuals—can take to accelerate the creation of a more diverse and inclusive workplace. Highlights include:A chain of happy accidents leads to a career in patent law Thriving on the feeling of success The theater bug as translated into litigation Taking deliberate steps toward more diversity in hiring The cultural cues that may discourage women from pursuing a patent litigation career Mentorship vs. sponsorship How to find sponsors and build relationships with them Bonding in a personal way for increased work productivity Managing up and managing down Developing a leadership style A personal professional highlight that demonstrates the importance of sponsorshipA collaborative approach to better serving clients through diverse teams A two-pronged approach to diversity and inclusion The paradox of emphasizing female mentoring for junior women Thanks for listening to Sidebars! Full Hour | In today's second hour, Lou Barletta, candidate for Governor in Pennsylvania, returns to the Dom Giordano Program to update how his campaign has been going with less than one week remaining until a very highly contested primary election on May 17th. First, Lou tells about an event being held tomorrow at the American Legion in Levittown, in which former Gov. Schweiker and Lt. Governor Crawley will speak on the candidate's behalf. Then, Giordano asks Barletta specifically about the gubernatorial frontrunner Doug Mastriano, with Barletta explaining why he feels he has a higher chance of winning against Democrats, so people should take notice of the winability aspect of the race. After Barletta, Giordano stresses the importance of the Pennsylvania primaries, pointing to the necessity to elect a candidate who can win. Then, Giordano warns of the negatives of electing another Democrat, pointing to Senator Bob Casey's flip-flopping on the topic of abortion, telling that he's come out against the Supreme Court leak after using his pro-life stance to prop himself up for past elections. Then, Giordano welcomes Matt Brouillette, President and CEO of Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs, back onto the Dom Giordano to break down the gubernatorial and senate primaries in Pennsylvania. First, Giordano asks about gubernatorial frontrunner Doug Mastriano, and whether Brouillette things the candidate has any shot against a very strong candidate in Josh Shapiro, with Giordano telling that he's concerned that Mastriano will scare off a moderate vote. Then, Giordano and Brouillette discuss the potential for the other, more moderate candidates, to drop out and team up against Mastriano. Giordano suggests that somebody like Dave White withdrawing would bring more support for candidates like Lou Barletta or Bill McSwain, and vice-versa. Then, Dom and Matt flip over to the Senate side of things, telling of a negative favorability rating that Dr. Oz faces while he continues to surge as a frontrunner, with Brouillette and Giordano stressing the importance of winability in a general election. Steve Keeley takes us inside DA Larry Krasner's press conference announcing the charges, explaining what the prosecution team has found regarding the case. Dr. Rebecca is originally from seacoast New Hampshire and her very first introduction to chiropractic care was when she was only 12 years old. At the time, her mom had recently given birth to her youngest sister and had multiple herniated discs accompanied by excruciating lower back pain. Her mom originally sought traditional medical care, but was told that pain killers and surgery were her only viable pain-relief options. Refusing to accept this, she scheduled her first chiropractic visit. I bet you can guess how this tale ends, but of course the story goes that she experienced great results, and was even able to avoid surgery! As she continued with regular chiropractic care Dr. Rebecca began experiencing daily headaches, so she asked her doctor if chiropractic could help her daughter too. She began care and fell in love instantly! After experiencing great results of her own, she was offered her first ever job at that chiropractor's office, and started working part-time at the young age of 14. That is when her love for the healing profession solidified. Though at that time she worked at the front desk, she loved forming connections with patients, and helping to guide them to optimal health. After graduating from Exeter High School in New Hampshire, she attended Temple University in Philadelphia where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology. She is proud to have started the university's first ever pre-chiropractic club! After earning her degree, she moved to Georgia to attend Life University College of Chiropractic and pursue her doctorate in chiropractic, with a goal to help as many people as possible! She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a concentration and passion for pediatric and perinatal chiropractic care. When she is not in the office, she can be found spending time with her husband and their beloved pets – cats Brady and Summer, and black lab Jack. She loves the ocean, and will take a drive to Biddeford Pool, OOB, or any other local beach whenever possible! She is also the oldest of five children, and loves spending time with her younger siblings. Dr. Rebecca and her husband Stephen also have a six month old son named Rowan and they love being new parents! How to learn more about Northstar Chiropractic Clinic:@northstarclinic on social meidanorthstarchiroclinic.comWelcome of the Strength For Your Purpose Podcast where Dr. Phil Finemore, PT, DPT, Cert.
