As we approach Baseball Opening Day 2024, what better way to celebrate than to revisit one of the more beloved baseball films of the 1980's, a comedy with heart focusing on a true underdog franchise, the Cleveland Indians? Directed by David S. Ward, the story focuses on one Cinderella season for the ballclub which is now under the control of a new owner (Margaret Whitton) who is determined to have them lose enough games to kill attendance so that she can move the franchise to Miami. Lead by a new manager (James Gammon) and mostly populated with untested rookies, this rag-tag bunch ends up surprising a lot of folks by competing for the American League Pennant. The roster includes Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, Corbin Bernsen, and Rene Russo among several others.....PLAY BALL!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The former Carolina Panther draft pick will be an important cog in the fledgling spring league and it could be a spring board for getting back to the NFL. In our final segment of the day we talk about Baseball Opening Day arriving with the Ole Miss Baseball team playing the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a four game set this weekend in Honolulu. ISU WBB Transfers, Baseball Opening Day, and Bad Ass Women in Movies with Mike Woody - Wednesday Hour 2
LSU baseball is getting all of the love this preseason, for good reason: unanimous number one team in the country, number one recruiting class in the country, number one transfer portal class in the country, number one MLB prospect in the country. LSU is the favorite to win a national title this year, and while it is incredibly difficult to win in college baseball the scene is set too perfectly for LSU to not win the College World Series. The Tigers are a top team in the country yet hasn't won a title in fourteen years which is, by LSU standards, too long. They've gotten in the big dance, like their 2017 matchup against the Florida Gators in the CWS Final, but couldn't pull it out to hoist the trophy at the end of it. There is too much talent on this team to not hoist the trophy at the end of it this year. But what are some factors that could hold the Tigers back this season? Unfortunately the injury bug has already bitten the LSU Tigers as RHP Grant Taylor is out for the season with a torn UCL. Injuries can hold any team back, no matter how much or how little talent you have. Barring injuries, the only thing that can hold LSU back is themselves. Their two biggest problem areas last season were pitching depth and defense. Head coach Jay Johnson made it a priority this offseason to patch up those holes bringing in pitchers Paul Skenes, Thatcher Hurd, Christian Little, and others via the transfer portal. The schedule is incredibly tough taking on three top ten teams in Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Tennessee in the first three weeks of conference play. But if you wanna be the best, you've gotta beat the best. LSU baseball opens it's season Friday at The Box against Western Michigan. Due to weather first pitch is now at 3pm on Friday afternoon.
