In this episode of Inside Golf Podcast, Andy sits down with Andrew Harvie, managing partner at Golf Club Atlas to discuss his two recent trips to Florida and Texas. They dive into the Florida private golf bubble and many of the exciting new developments in the Sunshine state, including Apogee, High Grove, the Ranch, Sandglass, Cabot Citrus Farms, and many others. Andrew then discusses his recent trip to Texas, which includes Childress Hall and Luling, two exciting new clubs from Tom Doak, Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, and Kyle Franz that are set to rival the Oohoopee Model. They identify which of these new developments will shine and receive critical acclaim, and the question that I continue to ponder, is any of this good for the game of golf—being that all of the best architecture is matriculating at ultra private destination clubs that 99.9% of the golfing public will ever get to experience. Thanks for listening and subscribing to Inside Golf Podcast with Andy Lack, cheers!

Join us on a sun-soaked Friday afternoon as we journey to Terry Black's BBQ in Lockhart, the "Barbecue Capital of Texas." The 45-minute drive from New Braunfels was brimming with anticipation for their legendary brisket burnt ends. Upon arrival, we dodged the lunch rush and indulged in a feast of smoky, melt-in-your-mouth burnt ends, creamy corn, macaroni, a refreshing cola, and a specialty beer brewed just for Terry Black's. Our adventure didn't end there. We headed to the enchanting Luling Lavender Fields. Despite the fields not being in bloom, we delighted in picking up a CBD Black Cherry Sparkling Water and lovely smelling lavender deodorant. As we drove back to New Braunfels, our hearts were full from savoring Texas's finest BBQ, my favorite, and discovering lavender treasures.
The U.S. Supreme Court has decided in favor of a convenience-store retailer's 2021 legal challenge involving swipe fees. A fire broke out at the original Buc-ee's travel center in Luling, Texas, Monday morning. And Costco is building an affordable housing unit on top of a store.
It's our first Friday News Roundup! Today, we talk about a bomb threat that upended a popular drag brunch during Pride, and dig into letters that the University of Texas sent to students who protested this spring. Plus, Buc-ee's bad boy gets busted just as the company opens its newest largest gas station in Luling. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Whitney Wells, who is the social media coordinator for Marble City Opera. Find Whitney online at https://www.instagram.com/whitneywellssoprano/ Whitney is from Texas. She is in town to work as the assistant stage manager for Marble City Opera's production of il Tabarro. There will be a concert version of il Tabarro aboard the Star of Knoxville riverboat on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Use the code RIVERCRUISE to get a 30% discount when buying tickets at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets There will be fully staged productions of il Tabarro on Friday, June 21, 2024 at the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore and on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Melton Lake Park in Oak Ridge. The performances will take place alongside the lake at both locations. At the world premiere of The Doctor and the Devils, several opera patrons recognized Frank from the tv show Tennessee Scholars' Bowl, which is currently re-airing the most recent season on East Tennessee PBS. The composer of The Doctor and the Devils said that his son was recently a contestant on Scholars' Bowl. While she is in town, Whitney is staying with her friend who is the manager of Knoxville Princess Parties. Whitney is “best friends” with Cinderella and several other princesses. See photos at https://www.knoxprincessparties.com/ Whitney's husband Ben once played Prince Eric. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. Frank asks Whitney if he is supposed to try to follow back private Instagram accounts or not. He decides against it because he already wastes too much time on Instagram looking at various s'mores recipes, including s'mores cookies, s'mores brownies, and s'mores dip. Frank finds thrifting videos on social media to be upsetting. When someone buys an item for pennies at a thrift store but then resells it for much more, Frank feels bad for the person who donated the item to the thrift store. Frank is wearing orange because the baseball Vols are one of eight teams in the College World Series. His favorite flower is an orange day-lily, which would bloom around Frank's birthday in New York but bloom a month earlier in Tennessee. Frank and his wife Jere intended to use a gift card at Arby's. Frank also had a two-dollar off coupon, which caused them to forget to use the gift card they had purchased at Kroger. Whitney likes a Texas grocery store called H-E-B. Whitney's parents grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, site of the first Buc-ee's convenience store. They knew the owners of Buc-ee's. This week the new world's largest Buc-ee's opens in Luling, Texas. It is slightly larger than the former world's largest Buc-ee's in Sevierville, Tennessee. Frank ate a brisket and egg burrito but wished they sold Buc-ee's dental floss. Whitney met her husband Ben at a summer opera program in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They put on three operas during the run of the summer festival. In one production of Cendrillon, Ben played Prince Charming and Whitney was one of Cinderella's ugly stepsisters. Frank's friend Bean was stumped by a crossword puzzle clue he saw on X. The clue was “‘90s alt-rock band named after an X-Files monster-of-the-week.” Bean sent the clue to Frank, who had to solve the whole crossword puzzle to figure out that the answer was EVE 6. Kyle Franz has been doing great renovation and restoration work for a number of years now and, as he describes it in today's conversation, feels like he is just now getting his "big break" on exciting original works. Although it wasn't original, his reworking of Cabot Citrus Farms (formerly World Woods) feels like our first chance to see what Kyle's true original work will look like, and if it is ant indication, we are in for some fun! In today's conversation, Kyle and Henry discuss: - Kyle's inspiration for his work (The Old Course) - Where architecture has perhaps gone wrong and how he wants to help in the industry's course correction - How he feels about Cabot Citrus so far and what we can expect from some of his original projects that will be opening in the next 12 months. “This is a tragedy, but it's not a crime.” This quote is from Captain Jeff Ferry, the lead investigator searching for missing Texas college student, Jason Landry. Jason, a student at Texas State University, left his apartment late in the evening on December 13, 2020, to return home to Missouri City, Texas for a quick visit. But Jason never made it home.Shortly after midnight, his car was found crashed and abandoned on a desolate road near Luling, a small town only about 30 minutes away from where he started. While Jason was nowhere to be found, he left several disturbing items behind. After two years with no sign of Jason, the Landry family is questioning the investigation and wondering more and more if this tragic ‘accident' was actually foul play.If you have any information regarding Jason Landry's disappearance, please contact the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office at (512) 398-6777 or the anonymous tip line at (726) 777-1359. In this week's Flightless Bird, David Farrier travels to Austin, Texas to investigate America's love of BBQ. Why do 7 out of 10 adults in America own some kind of BBQ device, and why is there so much BBQ in Texas? David meets up with the BBQ editor of Texas Monthly, Daniel Vaughn. David discovers that Daniel has eaten at over 2,000 barbecue spots all over the planet… 2,119 to be precise - many of them in Texas. Daniel agrees to take David on a day of BBQ eating, from Austin to Lockhart to Luling - shoving brisket and sides town their gullets in a feeding frenzy of epic proportions.
In the hundred-and-seventeenth episode of Collecting Real Estate, we interviewed Tom Staub of Red Oak Development Group.Tom Staub is the CEO and Managing Principal of Red Oak Development Group, a real estate development firm based in Austin, Texas. A self-made man, Tom started his first company at 16 and has founded several successful companies since. Tom's obsession with financial health and wealth accumulation began with his humble beginnings after seeing his family struggle financially. In college, Tom grew more interested in investing and founded an investment club before earning his undergraduate degree in finance and an MBA in securities, law, and corporate finance. Before his real estate career, Tom amassed an unparalleled wealth of experience in the corporate world while working with some of the world's top employers in wealth management, corporate finance, pharmaceuticals, and technology. He has managed a $16 billion portfolio of 28 deals, helped multiple companies increase revenue by as high as 80%, and developed a pricing model for the largest pharmaceutical company, resulting in a patent for the logic used, which McKesson Corporation purchased. In 2010, Tom entered the real estate industry as a real estate investor after recognizing the potential in single-family distressed assets. As a result, he amassed a team, bought real estate in three states over four years, and was invited to speak at numerous real estate investing events. After attracting the attention of 45+ investors who wanted to invest their capital, Tom founded an asset management company focused on private money loans, real estate flipping, and multi-family syndications.Tom is a savvy businessman who knows when to leverage market shifts. So when the single-family rental market began to grow too competitive, Tom pivoted his focus on larger projects with more significant margins and lower risk. This led him to partner with his father on two successful syndication projects In Ohio and Alabama, which they exited in under 15 months with 3X multiples on equity. As the market turned again in 2017, Tom and his team switched to land development. They bought 80 acres in Flagstaff, Arizona, to get land development experience. They made some mistakes, but their willingness to assume risks and invest their own capital allowed them to exit in 18 months and triple their investment. After their second successful land development deal, Tom launched Red Oak Development Group in Austin, Texas, in 2020, which includes ViewPoint Engineering Group under their umbrella.Today, Tom is the CEO and Managing Principal of Red Oak Development Group, overseeing project underwriting, financial planning, debt and equity strategy, company expansion, and project development. Tom has 15 years of business expertise and focuses on project viability, partnerships, and investor relations. Red Oak has funded eight projects and has six active projects with 489 acres and 2,200 lots, with a total valuation of $188M.Tom is a pioneer among outdated developers in Austin, Lockhart, and Luling, Texas. He aims to build new communities with plenty of green space and amenities that enhance city aesthetics.tom@redoakvc.comhttps://redoakvc.com/

Around 2:00 am, in the early hours of December 14, 2020, Kent Landry received a call from a Texas State Trooper. It was a call every parent dreads: his 21-year-old son Jason Landry had gotten into a car crash on his drive home for Christmas break. The trooper reported that Jason's car had been found abandoned on a gravel road in rural Luling, Texas which was only 30 minutes into his three-hour drive home. The car's lights were still on, the keys were in the ignition and the passenger side door was still locked, but Jason was nowhere to be found. It seemed as if he'd fled the scene of the wreck. But to Kent, that didn't sound like something his son would do. Kent rushed to the scene. When got there, he saw that Jason's clothes were scattered across the road, not far from where he'd wrecked. It was obvious to him that Jason didn't just flee the scene. Something had happened and no one had investigated it. Jason is white. He is 6'1”, 170 pounds, with brown eyes, shaggy brown hair, and a goatee. He sometimes wears glasses, although he didn't have them with him when he got out of the car - he's presumed to have been wearing contacts. Jason was 21 years old when he went missing. Today, he would be 23. Anyone with information is asked to call Capt. Jeff Ferry at 512-398-6777 Ext. 4516. If you'd rather leave an anonymous tip, you can call 726-777-1359.
