Co-Founder and Partner Virginia Van Lear with Level Craft Construction joins the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to discuss the story behind the 100% female-owned business, the company's exciting expansion into building new home communities, as well as what's on the books for the new year. Van Lear joins host Carol Morgan on the All About Real Estate segment. As one of Atlanta's favorite female builders and remodelers, Van Lear worked independently in the home building industry for 23 years before starting Level Craft Construction with her partner, Debbie Hollonbeck. Level Craft Construction is an in-town home-building company that develops custom homes and renovates large-scale projects. Prioritizing transparency and a positive environment with homeowners, Van Lear and her team are look forward to the expansion and growth of Level Craft Construction while offering beautiful products across Atlanta. Van Lear said, “We love working with our clients! We love to make the process super seamless.” Beginning in Decatur and Midtown within well-known neighborhoods like Morningside and Virginia Highlands, Level Craft Construction recently expanded to Buckhead, Brookhaven and Sandy Springs. The female-led company is currently building out a 58-home neighborhood in Hapeville and 12 townhomes in Grant Park near Zoo Atlanta. Van Lear said, “We were awarded Best Remodeler in Buckhead Magazine last month!” This is notable because the builder just started building in Buckhead in 2022! Priced from the low $400,000s, the Hapeville neighborhood features detached townhomes ideal for single-family living. Named Stillwood Homes, the community includes impressive amenities such as a pool and cabana. With each group of townhomes showcasing a different exterior elevation including Mediterranean, Southern and Tuscan the community's landscaping and hardscaping will also be themed to give the neighborhood a wide range of stylistic feels. Each group of townhomes will have access to a seating area featuring a fire pit. A community garden with edible plants will be available for all homeowners to enjoy. This Level Craft Construction project is conveniently located just off the Hapeville exit with close proximity to the airport. Just steps away from the BeltLine, Level Craft is working on 12 townhomes located at 816 Berne Street in Grant Park. Pricing isn't finalized yet but will most likely be from the $700,000s to the $800,000s for these four-floor townhomes. These homes will feature modern design elements and panoramic doors on the top roof leading to an expansive deck that overlooks the beautiful city of Atlanta. Today we are discussing The Georgia Court of Appeals and appellate law. To help us understand what that is and what that means, we are joined by the Presiding Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Hon. Anne Elizabeth Barnes.   Judge Anne Elizabeth Barnes: Presiding Judge Anne Elizabeth Barnes was elected in 1998 to the Georgia Court of Appeals in a three-way race without a runoff. She was the first woman to be elected in a state-wide judicial race without having been first appointed to the bench. Judge Barnes was re-elected to a second term in 2004, elected to a third term in 2010, receiving more votes than any other candidate in the State of Georgia, then again re-elected in 2016. Currently, she is running for re-election in 2022. A native Georgian, Judge Barnes grew up in Chamblee and attended DeKalb County public schools. She graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University in 1979. Judge Barnes has earned three law degrees:  a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia, a Master of Laws in the Judicial Process from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Laws in Judicial Studies from Duke University. She has also served on many committees and commissions, including the Judicial Council of Georgia's Standing Committee on Policy, the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism, the Supreme Court Commission on Interpreters, the Domestic Violence Committee of the Judicial Council of Georgia, and the Georgia Commission on Child Support.  Judge Barnes is a Trustee of the Georgia Legal History Foundation, and served as a director on the Boards of Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (GACASA), the Truancy Intervention Project, and the National Courts and Science Institute.  She also served on the Judicial Education Program Advisory Board of the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies. Presiding Judge Barnes is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Atlanta. She is a member of the American, Atlanta, DeKalb, and Gate City Bar Associations, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and the Old Warhorse Lawyers Club. She is a Master of the Bleckley Inn of Court and a member and former District 5 Director of the National Association of Women Judges. Judge Barnes is a Fellow of both the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia and the American Bar Association. In 2012, Judge Barnes received the Romae Turner Powell Judicial Service Award from the Atlanta Bar Association Judicial Section, which she formerly chaired. Judge Barnes has been recognized for her service by the DeKalb Bar Association, the Women in the Profession Committee of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia, and Justice Served. The last year and a half has, amongst a few other things, upended the way we eat. We've embraced eating at home, whether it be cooking for ourselves or feasting on a bevy of elevated takeout menus. Giant grocery stores still exist, but many of us are ordering our staples online and turning to local specialty stores: specialty grocers, butchers, delis, and cafes that hark back to the early 1900s. That's before the likes of King Kullen, Publics, and WalMart discounted our food system. I like this resurgence: Small businesses raising the bar of food sourcing, and bringing it into the community.Myles and Rachael spent their careers in some of NYCs fine-dining temples; Myles cooking at EMP, Blue Hill Stone Barns, and Aska, and Rachael as Somm at the Beatrice Inn and Aska. Now they are taking their hospitality chops to a whole animal butchery and market called Kinship in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta, GA.Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network. President of Level Craft Construction, Virginia Van Lear joins Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio on today's episode of All About Real Estate Radio. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, the group discusses the phases of a Level Craft Construction project works, where it builds and more. Level Craft Construction is a full-service design and build firm. This means it helps homeowners from start to finish on new home projects. Level Craft only builds inside the Atlanta perimeter with a focus on Decatur, Oakhurst, Virginia Highlands, Morningside, Druid Hills, Emory, Midtown and Avondale Estates. With over 20 years of experience, Level Craft has been creating beautiful spaces since 1996 and is a 100% woman-owned business. Van Lear and her business partner Debbie Hollonbeck both have backgrounds in art. Being a woman-owned business with an art background helps with the overall aesthetic of Level Craft homes. Not only are these homes built well, but they also look fantastic and take smaller details into consideration. Where to store the stroller, dog toys and hairdryer are all things brought up in planning, along with bigger impact items. “Women definitely have an advantage in many ways,” said Van Lear. “One of the things that is important when building or renovating a new home is communication. I think females do communicate a little bit better. Homeowners need to be educated along the way, and sometimes it can be very emotional. We have a lot of processes in place to help with communication” Level Craft works in phases. The initial phase consists of homebuyers meeting with Van Lear and Hollonbeck. During the first meeting, everything from budget and time frame to design needs and wish lists is discussed. After that, architectural plans are decided on and finalized. The second phase begins when the experts at Level Craft schedule a subcontractor meeting at the new home site. More planning and bidding take place until the best price is found. At this point, the total cost is decided and approved. Then, a contract gets signed! The third phase is short and sweet. During this step of the home buying process, a building permit is pulled by a member of Level Craft. If the future homeowner would rather hire an expeditor themselves, that is also an option. Phase four is when the real fun begins. During this penultimate step, the building begins! Level Craft assists with all selections including paint, design details and finishes. The homeowner gets to choose every detail throughout this phase with the guidance of the Level Craft experts. The Level Craft Construction team is also onsite every day for inspections, management, materials, walkthroughs and more! The final phase consists of one last walk through to make sure everything is finished to the exact specifications of the homeowner and their initial plan. After everything is confirmed, a quick and thorough cleanup ensues, and the house is handed over! Throughout the entire building process, the Level Craft Construction team is there for guidance and support. They are also transparent and upfront about any costs, delays and bumps in the road. This means when a homeowner gets the keys to their brand-new custom home, there are no surprises! “We don't try to use jargon that our homeowners don't understand,” said Van Lear. “We explain everything to them, and we actually become a kind of family. Most of these builds last between six to nine months, and after that they have a one-year warranty, so we pop up into their lives again! We want to have a relationship with them that is a friendship, as well as a business relationship.” For more information on Level Craft Construction, visit www.LevelCraftAtlanta.com. Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia and the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend! It is half marathon time! RUN This episode features the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon on Sunday of race weekend. In this race, it was chilly, wet, and sometimes raining, but we got to see some of the best sites of Atlanta.  The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center, the Atlanta Beltline, the hilly and beautiful Virginia Highlands, and the big finish in Piedmont Park.  Jeff was waiting for after the finish for a photo and the medal was unbelievable!  It was the biggest I have ever seen.  What a great comeback after the injury last year!  It is a friendly, no-pressure way to introduce yourself to this distance with so much support.  It is a must-do for any run-walk-runner. EAT We featured small bites and a great mixed drink from The Wrecking Bar Brewpub last year, and since this was a comeback, we had to come back here to feature their awesome brunch.  Country Fried Steak was on the menu and it was perfect.  The gravy included the made in-house cheddarwurst we originally tasted in the corn pups last year. Perfectly cooked steak with a crispy breading was at the heart of this dish topped with a runny egg like my daddy used to make for me as a kid.  So tasty!  We had a couple of other items from their menu, so stay tuned for other tasty brunch treats from this awesome Atlanta find. DRINK Did we mention that The Wrecking Bar Brewpub also has a brewery right on site and we tried two of their tasty original beers?  Maltlanta Doppel Sticke and Choco Mountain Imperial Breakfast Stout were our choices.  They are both high ABV but delicious.  Maltlanta had caramel and biscuit notes and Choco Mountain had strong coffee flavors as it had barrel-aged coffee beans used in the brewing process.  We have more to show you from their beer menu as well as cocktails on future quick bites! THAT'S A WRAP Thank you for watching! Here's hoping for a great second year of the podcast because of all your support!  Please subscribe and rate us on iTunes. We would love to hear your feedback and need your help getting discovered as a podcast! Follow us on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
