Send us a textThis week on the show, Chris Berardo stops by the show to discuss his latest release, Wilder All the Time, touring, and more.********Chris Berardo is another artist whose life hasn't been the easiest. He was on a MAJOR upswing career-wise a decade ago before the dreaded cancer reared its ugly head. He was forced to abandon his music career to take care of himself, but now, after a decade of fighting, he is releasing his first album since... and it's a great one. A consummate and charismatic performer, Berardo's smoky voice and lived-in tales have charmed audiences from intimate acoustic shows to full-blown theater concerts, often opening for some of his idols, including The Doobie Brothers, The Marshall Tucker Band, Dickey Betts & Great Southern, and America.Chris Berardo and The Desberardos have just released their long-awaited fourth album, “Wilder All The Time”. It's a deeply personal record that's easily among the best works of his career! Chris talks about the record, playing live, and his travels from New York to Los Angeles to his current home in Norwalk, Connecticut.Watch this video for his new song "Take Me Back" which features pics and vids from his childhood: https://youtu.be/MDjJXH0ThW8?si=wdw3aYijfmIobIxe. Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) CEO Sam Garrett talked with Proactive's Tylah Tulley about the company's first assay results from phase one drilling at the Mostaza mine. Garrett highlighted the exceptional results, including a significant 600% increase in copper grade compared to historical data. The drilling targeted hole EDH25, which previously showed 25m at 0.53% copper. Garrett noted, "These results, which are only a few meters away, essentially represent a 600% increase in the copper grade." This suggests potential underreporting in historical grades and offers new opportunities for the company. The company is already planning the next phase of drilling, with results from eight more holes expected in the coming weeks. The aim is to extend its resource drilling within the mine and explore mineralisation trends to the south, where promising signs have been identified. Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE: GSCU) CEO Sam Garrett talked with Proactive's Tylah Tully about the company's latest drilling results at Mostaza prospect, within the Cerro Negro project in northern Chile. Garrett highlighted that phase one diamond drilling had successfully met three out of four objectives, confirming mineralisation width, depth extension and strike continuity up to 270 metres south. The fourth objective, related to grade content, is pending assay results. He also discussed the mineralisation characteristics, noting the presence of high-grade copper in different forms, including chalcocite, bornite and chalcopyrite. The presence of bornite is particularly significant as it is often associated with gold, adding further exploration potential. Looking ahead, Great Southern Copper plans to analyse geophysical methods to enhance exploration and assess the potential for a large-scale copper-gold system. While awaiting assay results, the company is considering additional drilling to build on these promising findings. #GreatSouthernCopper #Mining #CopperExploration #ChileMining #DrillingResults #CerroNegro #MostazaProspect #GoldMining #JuniorMining #NaturalResources

The Waifs are one of Australia's most loved bands. But what you might not know is before they were playing at sell-out gigs in big city venues, they performed in shearing sheds in Western Australia's Great Southern region.
Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) CEO Sam Garrett talked with Proactive's Tylah Tully about the company's diamond drilling program underway at the Cerro Negro prospect in Chile. Garrett provided insight into the company's focus on high-grade copper and silver, with potential gold. He explained, “We're targeting zones of 10 metres of over one percent copper and maybe 50 to 100 grams of silver,” emphasising the significance of silver's performance in today's market. The drilling program is building on historical data, including a previous non-compliant resource associated with the Mostaza mine. The first drill holes aim to confirm historical grades and thicknesses while expanding the resource southward, potentially by another two kilometres. Garrett outlined the timeline for initial results, which could take 4 to 6 weeks, and mentioned exciting findings from the RC scout program at Viuda, which confirmed a porphyry system. #ProactiveInvestors #GreatSouthernCopper #LSE #CopperExploration #SilverMining #GoldPotential #LSEGSCU #CerroNegro #ChileMining #DrillingProgram #ResourceExpansion #ProactiveStudio

Great Southern Copper PLC CEO Sam Garrett talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest capital raise of £780,000, which included new investors and support from their cornerstone shareholder. Garrett explained that this funding signals confidence in the company, especially during a tough period for mining finance. He emphasised the progress at the Especularita project, mentioning that seven drill targets are prepared, with a focus on the Mostaza and Viuda prospects. The funds will enhance drilling capacities, potentially introducing additional exploration programs such as geophysical surveys. Garrett noted that preparations are in place for drilling by the end of the fourth quarter, pending final permits and approvals from local authorities and environmental groups. The company has secured a drilling company and rig, signalling imminent action. 'We believe we're getting close with most of the permitting issues,' Garrett remarked, highlighting the readiness of Great Southern Copper's team. Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) managing director Sam Garrett discusses the expansion of drilling targets at the Mostaza mine at the Cerro Negro project in Chile with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion. Garrett highlighted the discovery of significant zones of low-grade mineralization surrounding the original high-grade deposit. This expansion could significantly increase the scale of their upcoming maiden drill program. Garrett mentioned that historical drilling hasn't found the edges of the system, indicating a large volume of copper that still needs to be fully explored. He emphasised the importance of this discovery, given the current favourable copper prices and advancements in technology. The company is currently finalising preparations for the drill program, including environmental and archaeological surveys and negotiations with local communities. "We're well into it, and we're looking forward to getting started," Garrett said, noting that exploration efforts continue across the broader Especularita project, with teams actively working on sampling and mapping other licenses. In the 1760's a clever, young, ambitious Scotsman named Alexander Dalrymple began advocating a theory as to the existence of a great southern continent. The idea of a landmass that would counterbalance the known world had long been the stuff of legend. Now Dalrymple wanted to prove it. Momentum built behind his expedition which was a product of the evidence-based scientific approach of the Enlightenment. Soon they had a ship, a Whitby-based collier called The Endeavour. A ship that would go on to change the course of world history. Listen as William and Anita are joined by Peter Moore to discuss The Endeavour. Now stands at the helm of the vineyards and cellar, having worked side by side with Domenico from 2013 to 2017. He understood Domenico like few others and was treated as a son. Working in some of the most coveted wine regions and cellars throughout Italy, Oscar has brought his knowledge and experience from outside of Piedmont and has helped to make significant adjustments and improvements in the winery and vineyards. As a team over the past years, Domenico and Oscar brought the wines to a level they have never been before. Today as Oscar takes the winery forward, he carries on Domenico's vision and dream of making pure wines that fully express the true character and potential of the land. Duane Betts joins me on the show today. Duane is the son of the innovative guitarist and songwriter from the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts, and while he's certainly a chip off the ol' block, Duane has his own thing going on and has finally just released his debut solo album “Wild & Precious Life”. It's an inspired and engaging record - sort of a modern take on southern rock that's unique and definitely has some of the Betts family sound but it's also a great display of a killer band in fine form. Before he was writing and singing his own songs, Duane was a guitar slinger for hire and spent some time in the band Dawes, played with Phil Lesh and Friends, Dickey's band Great Southern, and has had other bands like Backbone69 as well as a band with a few of the other Allman Bros offspring, including Berry Oakley Jr and Devon Allman - called The Allman Betts Band. After those various projects ran their course, it left Duane the time to focus on writing his own music, and after a casual conversation with Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, he was offered their studio to record these new songs in. I saw Duane recently at the Grand Ol' Opry and he and his band did a killer mini-set there. They're going to be out playing all over the place in the coming months, so make sure you go and see them live and pick up the new album. We had a great conversation about all of this stuff and got deep into the process of recording his new album, guitar tones, his history with his own band and the legacy of the Allman Brothers. You can get info on all of Duane's projects and his tour dates at duanebetts.com - Please enjoy my conversation with Duane Betts!Be sure to listen to the Accompanying Songs Playlist which contains some of the artist's work, plus many of the songs we discuss on the show:Playlist on Spotify / Playlist on Apple MusicIf you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the show with a donation or Patreon subscriptionThe show's website can be found at www.makersandshakerspodcast.comYour fearless host, Steve Dawson can be found at www.stevedawson.ca Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/mmasspodcast. This interview contains discussion of mental health issues and suicide. Albany based filmmaker Adam Morris returns to the region with his second feature film, Frank and Frank (or the Valley and the Walrus: Ruminations on the Mystery from Soup to Nuts). This introspective and explorative film follows Frank (Myles Pollard), a faith and financial influencer whose life is in turmoil as he faces a potential divorce as he heads out on a talking tour. In the throes of despair, Frank chances upon a stranger, also named Frank (Trevor Jamieson), and the two quickly become salvations for one another. Frank and Frank is a film that explores masculine emotions in an open and honest way, with Pollard's Frank struggling to keep the ground under his feet - both figuratively and literally, as we see him try and reconcile with his faith one day by building a backyard crucifix to hoist himself onto, as if that will be the solution to his problems. The two Frank's share hard truths and engage in a soul searching journey together, lifting each other up. This synopsis suggests that Frank and Frank is a dark, heavy film, and to be fair, it is at times, but it is also reflective of life in the sense that there are frequent moments of lightness and levity to bring a touch of hope to both of the Frank's lives. In this interview, Adam and Myles talk about their working relationship, what changed in them as individuals during filming, and the joy of working the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Frank and Frank (or the Valley and the Walrus: Ruminations on the Mystery from Soup to Nuts) has its world premiere at Perth's Revelation Film Festival on Saturday July 15 at 6pm at Luna Leederville, with a follow up screening on July 16 at 5:45pm at Luna SX. My, oh, my, we are excited about today's guest, a remarkable musician and guitarist who is about to bless the world with an unbelievably joyful album next week. It's coming out July 14, and it's called Wild & Precious Life. The man of the moment is Duane Betts, and the album is packed with soulful melodies, intricate guitar work, and a raw, heartfelt energy that will take you to the place that great music is supposed to take you. Dare we say, it will tickle you. Son of the legendary Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts, Duane is his own force to be reckoned with in the guitar-based rock and blues scene. After cutting his teeth with the bands Backbone69 and Whitestarr, he spent a decade playing guitar alongside his father as a member of Dickey Betts and Great Southern. He then traveled the world as a touring member of Dawes. But in the last five years, he's been on a tear: He released an EP in 2018 and co-founded The Allman Betts Band, releasing two records in 2019 and 2020. And then, it was finally time for a solo album. Which brings us to Wild & Precious Life, which is being released by our friends at Royal Potato Family. A native of Sarasota, Duane says he wanted to capture “that old school Florida vibe” with this record. Well, he did that and more. Along with a powerhouse of a band - Johnny Stachela on guitar, Berry Duane Oakley on bass, John Ginty on keyboards – all three members of The Allman Betts Band, along with Tyler Greenwell on drums and special guests Marcus King, Nicki Bluhm, and Derek Trucks, Betts has gifted us with 10 scintillating tracks cut live at Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville, Florida in 2022. The legendary Alan Walden shares a great story about an encounter between the Outlaws and a motorcycle gang in NYC.Our regular features, Covers, and Hidden Gem, are back as well. Our producer/editor is Jane Jones.Be sure and also check out the Percy and Face podcast. The Pastoralists and Graziers Association says momentum is growing for a farmer rally on the steps of parliament house, to protest against the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act (ACHA), due to start on July 1, but due to the liability and risks associated it will not be held. There was a heated exchange in WA Parliament question time over the new ACHA. The PKKP Aboriginal Corporation says the debate over the ACHA has become "sidetracked", and the act should "not be delayed". More than 150 people attended an information session on the ACHA in Karridale, south of Perth. A Great Southern wine producer is calling for a review into Western Australia's prescribed burning practices, meanwhile others would like to see more prescribed burning in the state. The US regulator has approved chicken products made in a lab out of chicken cells, but a researcher says the industry still has huge hurdles to overcome in Australia. Northern WA's aquaculture and recreational fishing industry is concerned by a proposal to close Broome's North Regional TAFE aquaculture centre by the end of 2023. The gap between livestock prices in WA and the eastern states is narrowing and reducing opportunities for local producers to sell stock interstate. The United Kingdom's only superfine merino wool grower is considered unique by her neighbours.

This week on Zen Perry Project, Zen sits down with Duane Betts for one of the prolific singer-songwriter-guitarist's most extensive interviews to date! An adept musician even at a young age, Duane cut his teeth as a teen regularly sitting-in with his father Dickey in The Allman Brothers Band. After moving to Southern California and leading rock outfits Backbone69 and Whitestarr, Betts spent nearly a decade playing guitar alongside his father in the group Great Southern. Duane also performed as a touring guitarist for folk-rockers Dawes and was a member of the supergroup Jamtown with G. Love, Donovan Frankenreiter, and Cisco Adler. In 2018, Betts released his debut album, Sketches of American Music, and toured as a guest of the Devon Allman Project. At year's end, Duane and Devon formed The Allman Betts Band along with Berry D. Oakley, son of the late Allman Brothers Band founding bassist Berry Oakley. The group issued two albums- 2019's Down to the River and 2020's Bless Your Heart- before announcing a hiatus in 2022. Betts reflects not only on his upbringing amongst rock and roll royalty and how his extensive experiences have shaped the artist he is today - but delves into his recording process (his second solo album is set for release this summer!), reminisces about his musical inspirations, and looks forward to how he aims to proudly carry his family's legacy into the future. In this episode of Spirit Stories our guest is Venerable Mudu who is leading an effort to establish a community of practice in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Venerable Mudu first became interested in Buddhism when a chance invitation by a Thai friend to join her in offering food to the Buddhist monks at Serpentine's Forest Monastery. He became inspired by the monastic way of life. Several years later after developing an understanding the importance of meditation and renunciation, he decided to take up the training to become a Buddhist monk. In 2014, after completing the two year trial and preliminary training, Venerable Mudu received the higher ordination as a fully ordained Bhikkhu under his teacher and preceptor, Ajahn Brahm at Bodhinyana Buddhist Monastery. In 2018 he went to Albany at the request of community members there, and has since established Bodhinyana Great Southern Hermitage and he teaches regularly in Albany, as well as frequent visit to Denmark, Walpole and Mt Barker, all in the Great Southern region in the far south of Western Australia.
