Addiction hurts those who struggle as well as those who love the one doing the battling. Irene Rollins shares how her alcohol addiction almost cost her everything most dear to her. This story and what she's learned on her journey is the foundation of her book Reframe Your Shame: Experience Freedom from What Holds You Back. If you struggle with addiction, you are loved, and as long as there's breath in your lungs, your story can be redeemed. With Lynne Stroy, Tomelex Copeland, and Joey Svendsen contributing to the conversation with Irene, the four also discuss the nature of women being competitive with one another; they talk about whether they have a special trust in businesses who claim to have Christian owners and navigate whether it's ever too late to bring up a grievance to one who has offended. Irene Rollins is a certified emotional intelligence coach; she loves to study human behavior, enabling her to understand a wide variety of people and guide them to be the best version of themselves through her teaching, writing, and coaching. After almost twenty-five years in full-time ministry, serving as Senior Pastors of a thriving church called i5 City, Irene and her husband Jimmy felt a shift in their ministry focus. Irene and Jimmy founded the ministry of TWO = ONE with a mission to help build strong marriages that result in healthy families that impact our communities for the better. What Holds You Back? Is it: An issue of education, such as taking a permaculture design course, a bachelor's degree, or returning to school as a non-traditional student? An issue of information, such as the right book or resources that helps make sense of an issue you're stuck on? A matter of access to land, whether a garden plot, backyard, homestead, or farm, and trying to find land where you live? A financial problem, such as having the income to support your work or project while it grows, to rent, lease, or buy land, or acquiring the tools you need to work it? A technical issue, such as setting up the right business structure for your work, or an on-the-ground problem an expert could help you solve? A community problem, where you don't have the folks around you or the right social groups to help you overcome your obstacles? Let me know by sending me a direct message using the contact form. What if not being enough isn't what you are afraid of? What if the real fear is found in stepping into your greatest light?Marianne Williamson wrote in her book Return to Love;“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”In today's episode, Christina share's insights into how reclaim your brightest light, to step into that power and release the fear of being yourself. She covers:What has you scared to shine? How to release the shoulds. (Find the process she mentions here.) How to allow others be their divine selves, while allowing yourself the same. What chipped away your power? How do you step into your light? How to release the fear of your power?Spiritual Pride.Curiosity, not judgement.Christina Fletcher is a Spiritual Awareness coach, energy worker, author, speaker and host of the podcast Showing Up Whole. She specialises in practical spirituality and integrating inner work with outer living.Through mindset, spiritual connection, intuitive guidance, manifestation, and mindfulness techniques Christina helps her clients overcome overwhelm and shame to find a place of flow, ease, and deep heart-centered connection.Christina has been a spiritual life and parent coach for 7 years and trained in Therapeutic Touch 8 years ago. In this Kingdom Conversation I get to talk with my friend Krissy Nelson about her latest book Say Goodbye to What Holds You Back. There is so much wisdom in this that it is hard to get it all into one podcast, but we sure tried. Krissy gives perspective on the journey writing this book while “moming,” dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic, serving in ministry and more. We talk about the walls that we allow the enemy to construct and how Jesus is with us in the fire while also discussing the concept of letting go and saying no. We get insight from Krissy on the most common walls we deal with and a reminder that they are a distraction to keep us from the joy we find in Jesus. Bottom line, believe what God says about you and say goodbye to what holds you back. Irene Rollins is the author of the book Reframe Your Shame: Experience Freedom from What Holds You Back. In her book and in our conversation today, Irene shares her story of adolescent addiction to alcohol that consumed her life and rewired her brain chemistry until she found herself in college, tired and desperate for life, which she found in a relationship with Jesus, and the love of a wonderful man. As they grew their family and begin to pastor churches together, the old coping strategies, shame narratives, and lure of alcohol's offer of escape began to pull on Irene's weary heart until she found herself steeped in functional alcoholism. Perfect wife, mother and pastor by day, passed out in the bathroom by night, Irene's life was falling apart. In 2017, she went to rehab. After incredible amounts of recovery work, thousands of prayers and redemptive reconciliation, Irene is celebrating 7 years of sobriety. She now, alongside her husband Jimmy Rollins, lives with a renewed purpose for ministering to people struggling with addictions, how to spot unhealthy habits that we use to help us cope with pain, brain hijacking, trying to work through crises in marriage, and speaking truth to the lies of the enemy that are keeping people in the crippling cycle of toxic shame, codependency, and powerlessness, and the difference Jesus brings with a life of pursuing healing, reconciliation, repentance, and freedom in Him. We covered so much ground in this episode. Everything from types of addictions, mental health struggles, sexual abuse, toxic shame, the narratives we tell ourselves, the difference between conviction and shame, and normalizing discomfort as we learn and grow, and use our feelings as teachers and not masters. Recovery is not exclusive to alcoholism. We are called to throw off everything that hinders us. What an opportunity to examine how we can reframe the narratives in our lives and pursue God's heart for how He sees us, allowing Him to transform our hearts and mind. Wherever you are in your story, what hinders your growth, or keeps you captive from healing, you are worth the work. Yes, we are weak. Yes, we have believed lies that have allowed people to hurt us, or we've hurt ourselves. But in our weakness God is strong. He has good for you in the land of the living and a future of hope. Take heart, friend. This isn't how the story ends. You matter, and your story matters. Irene Rollins is a pastor, certified emotional health coach, recovery activist and the author of “Reframe Your Shame: Experience Freedom from What Holds You Back.”As a pastor, mother and wife, Irene looked like she had it all: a successful church that she led with her husband, Jimmy, and three amazing children. After not drinking for more than a decade, Irene introduced alcohol back into her life and quickly fell into the grips of addiction.Irene never believed she drank problematically and believed that she only drank to alleviate her stress, but she became increasingly dependent on the substance. Turmoil within her marriage and family followed until a close circle of friends and family intervened and she accepted help.It was during treatment that Irene began to address the root causes of her drinking and understand that the unresolved childhood trauma that she never attended to affected her greater than she imagined.Today, Irene has been sober for a number of years and leads a ministry with her husband called Two Equals One.

For years, Irene Rollins lived on auto-pilot. Unaware of just how motivated by shame she was, it took a jolt to wake her up to the fact that she didn't have to live a life characterized by fear and defensiveness. It was an addiction to alcohol, made more severe by the pressures of pastoring a church, that finally woke her up to these bigger problems: “Imagine the weight I was carrying. I still had three kids, the dogs, managing life, and I found myself reintroducing alcohol into my life.” From there, things escalated, says Rollins. “My dependency increased over a six year period of time, and I went into a full blown alcohol addiction.” In this episode, we explore the nature of addiction and recovery, including the ways in which every one of us struggle with addiction in our own way. — Irene Rollins is passionate about the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of all people. As a certified Emotional Intelligence Coach, she loves to study human behavior, which enables her to understand a wide variety of people, guiding them to be the best version of themselves through her teaching, writing and coaching. I am enough because God says I am enough. We are temples of the Holy Spirit and freedom is on the other side of denial. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2 Let us know the goodness of God, not through the lens of shame, but for who He truly is and His reckless love for us. Admit it. Accept it. Apply it. "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 Links from Show Irene's New Book: Reframe Your Shame: Experience Freedom from What Holds You Back Sign-Up for Tool Kit: Reframe Your Shame ToolKit Jimmy and Irene Rollins Marriage Ministry: Two Equals One Joanna's New Book: Embracing Trust: The Art of Letting Go and Holding On to a Forever-Faithful God [Disclosure: I make a small commission from affiliate links used in this post.] Connect with Irene Rollins Website | Instagram | Facebook

What Holds You Back in Dentistry & Sleep? Episode #292 with Dr. Erin Elliott Maybe you want sleep and airway in your practice, but you're feeling held back. Today, Dr. Erin Elliott returns on the topic of airway with advice on how to get started! Kirk Behrendt and Dr. Elliott talk about the most common obstacles dentists face and the best practices on how to overcome them. For tips on positive thinking, staying motivated, and having confidence in your work, listen to Episode 292 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Don't let medical billing be a roadblock to doing sleep in your practice. Fear of being sued shouldn't stop you. Avoid thinking about the “what-ifs" — most of those fears never happen. Have confidence in your work. Don't let imposter syndrome hold you back. Learn how to communicate and talk to your patients and team. Always think about what's best for your patients. Don't try to do it all — delegate. Quotes: “Complexity is the enemy of implementation. And dentists do one thing really well, is overthinking and making things more difficult than they need to be.” (04:29—04:40) “I recently took a poll on the forum that I mentor on from people that have attended the course, ‘Why are you not doing as much sleep as you want to?' And number one was medical billing.” (05:35—05:49) “If you take care of the patient and do what's best for them — there are some jerks in this world. But to get to the point where you're sued, legally, it's standard of care. And it's also clinically acceptable work — you won't get sued. They have to have an expert witness in order to win. Ask me how I know, because I had to go through the process.” (09:21—09:45) “You do feel like you're behind the ball all the time. And then, of course, people only post their most amazing work, and you're like, ‘Man, I am a crappy dentist,' when really, you're getting patients out of pain, you're restoring their smile, their function. You're doing everything well, [but] you always feel like a failure. So, you've just got to get out there.” (10:48—11:11) “Don't start expecting physician referrals if you don't even know what to do with a patient when you get them.” (22:42—22:47) “It's really the team that gets things going, and I think we don't utilize them enough.” (27:37—27:40) “Stop being nice. It doesn't mean not to be nice, but it means that people are okay with you leading them. And it's not being a jerk to have certain expectations that you expect them to meet. And if you have to correct them, they have given you permission just by being your employee.” (33:59—34:24) “Just know that: (1) you know what you're doing; (2) you won't get sued; (3) take care of people, [and] you'll find satisfaction in your job.” (45:00—45:06) Snippets: Dr. Elliott's background. (02:53—07:18) Don't let your fears stop you. (08:09—12:06) Don't let imposter syndrome hold you back. (12:59—14:41) Have your “why” to keep yourself motivated. (15:21—16:19) You can't do everything yourself/the champion concept. (17:07—21:13) Other obstacles holding you back from doing sleep in your practice. (21:35—24:35) Mistakes made and lessons learned. (25:46—27:45) Have confidence in leading your team. (28:31—32:11) Heidi vs. Howard study, and the origin of the word “nice”. (32:11—39:30) Don't be easily defeated. (40:02—41:16) Dr. Elliott's sleep courses. (41:33—43:03) Dr. Elliott's contact information, website, and S1 course. (43:11—44:07) Closing. Reading my Twitter feed last week, I read this knee-jerk reaction to people with beautiful bodies posting pictures of themselves on Instagram, AKA "Thirst Traps":https://twitter.com/gaywonk/status/1098676404739289094Hyperbolic language doesn’t helpPutting all of Instagram and gay thirst traps into a single container only makes things worse. This is the path of blaming external circumstances and playing the victim, instead of taking ownership for the problem and coming up with creative solutions.Modern Queer Liberation is about questioning, not blocking. Queer liberation seeks evolution, not revolution. It’s about influencing, not destroying. It’s about changing the dynamics of power by laying the truth to bare and daring to have evolutionary dialogue. No one is to blame for gay thirst traps. What is a healthy body?My take as a former health and fitness coach for 15 years and my observations of myself, how I was shunned then accepted in the gay community, then how I no longer cared about it. The onus is on us to disconnect. We also give power to those people or accounts we repeatedly follow, engage with, or speak out against. If more news outlets refused to give Trump a platform, what do you think might happen?Depictions of beauty changes over cultures and timeFor example, in the gay community we have seen, the Marlboro man in the 70s;the smooth muscle men of the late 80s and 90s as a response to AIDS;Bears, Twinks and Gender trickstersKnow that the muscular male physique has been around since the Olympic games of Ancient Greece. A muscular physique, and the work to achieve it, is not a new endeavour. Also, as we age, we begin to understand beauty and our body in different ways. Maren and Gretchen discuss WHAT HOLDS YOU BACK from noticing/naming/interrupting racism as a white woman? “She Speaks her Truth” She Speaks Her Truth The womb awaits The children await The ancestors inside of you awaits The world is waiting She speaks her truth What about you What will it take for the chains to be removed from you lips, your heart and your soul? How long must we wait For you to unleash the power that lives within The truth, your truth, the light, your light You search outside for the truth you already own Your truth is paid in full As the moon moves the ocean So your truth moves the world She speaks her truth What about you What will it take for you to believe that What you do matters Oh, but what you say Changes the world Moves mountains Heals Delivers And creates worlds we can only dream You my love are waiting for her to speak her truh, And we are waiting for you. -Tonicia Abdur Salaam llmeetyoutherepodcast.weebly.com/ illmeetyoutherepodcast@gmail.com www.facebook.com/illmeetyoutherepodcast www.instagram.com/illmeetyoutherepodcast/ ---
