Many professional women aspire to advance their careers. Yet, many encounter common obstacles when navigating the landscape both at work and at home. From corporate cultures to internal chatter, high impact women are often searching for proven and action
I'm thrilled to share with you a new chapter in my journey. After years of chasing external achievements, I've realized that real growth comes from within. Despite my accomplishments in the tech industry, authoring books, and researching women in the workplace, I found myself yearning for something more profound, more meaningful.I hit a personal wall, and it led me to a path of self-discovery and seeking. This journey has been so transformative that I've penned down my experiences and key findings in a new book. One of the most significant revelations was the "I should" mindset. It's a trap that many of us fall into, but the real magic happens when we align our time and actions with our true goals. And now, I'm excited to announce my new podcast and community, "Together We Seek." It's a space where we can continue this journey of self-discovery together, learning from each other's experiences and growing as a collective.I'm incredibly grateful for your support and would love to personally chat with anyone interested in discussing this further. So, come join me, let's seek together. You can find me at www.TogetherWeSeek.Online where I hope you join the live discussions and community!Thank you for joining me ~ here are some other resources for you!JJ's new book Seeking: https://www.amazon.com/Seeking-Findings-Energy-Sidestep-Self-Doubts/dp/B0BKQCWJ62Join me live in my energy community: https://www.togetherweseek.online/Visit my website for retreats and free resources: https://jjdigeronimo.com/My energy podcast Together We Seek: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1923001

It Pays To Be Yourself: Reframing Your "Flaws" Into "Gifts" Do you ever hold back because you've been told you were too bossy, sensitive, direct, or emotional at work? Women leaders often get these labels even though they exhibit similar behaviors to their male counterparts. What women have been told is “unlikeable” about them can create self-doubt, and keep them from conforming to someone else's leadership style. However, what if your “flaws” are actually your best leadership gift? When you spend your time and energy trying to conform to someone else's leadership style, you give your power away. In fact, it pays to be yourself. According to Francesca Gino at Harvard, she found that people who behaved authentically (vs catering to what they thought people wanted) were 26% more likely to be hired. I'll help you own what's unique about you and use these skills to make an impact. You'll learn how to blend this gift with your leadership values to lead with more confidence and create a career you love. What will the listener take away? 1. Identify the gift you've been hiding because you've been told you're "too much" and how that impacts your energy 2. Learn how to reframe your flaws into gifts so you can stop hiding and speak up at work 3. Uncover situations that call for your unique approach and how to show up fully in those moments 4. If time, a model for speaking up and advocating at work Kelli Thompson is a women's leadership coach and speaker who helps women advance to the rooms where decisions are made. It is good to have perspective so when things do not unfold as planned you have some reserve energy! Can you think of the last time you were told no or can you think of a project or initiative where every door was closed? It's not easy, as many of us are told NO, so often, whether it's at home in our communities, or even at work. No, seems to be such a popular thing, and it comes in so many ways, and oftentimes it can really deplete us and kick off our stories that say, I'm not ready. Who am I? What was I thinking? These self-reflecting questions can really slow us down or even cause us to create a detour or a workaround. I am looking forward to sharing some of the strategies I used to create my own Yes! When nudged by the Universe to write this book, my initial response was I'm not ready. That was followed with I still have more to learn. Yet after each women's event where I was invited to present, I would share some of these insights and exercises, and the noticeable interest was reassuring, validating that women were ready to talk more about their self-doubts and fears. They were ready to be more vulnerable and more vocal about what they needed and what they desired. I saw this engagement as permission to share my journey, even if it expanded beyond career books, skill assessments, and emotional intelligence tests. The conversations and experiences in these pages go beyond the professional and corporate strategies I have previously shared with my readers and communities. So, if you are familiar with my work, you may initially be surprised, yet I have found that I needed to go beyond the traditional methods of leadership for women to understand my internal barriers and gain new levels of insight. There have been so many moments in my career where I could have used a bit of courage, or a “microdose” of bravery. And to be honest, I wish I would have known this week's guest in those moments. I'm chatting with Dr. Kristen Lee, head of the Behavior Science Program at Northeastern University and author of Worth the Risk. In this week's episode of Career Strategies for Women that Work, Dr. Lee is sharing how to create small acts of bravery and connection to regain self-confidence and the resilience we need to live full and meaningful lives. This episode includes:** Understanding Risk** Small steps to Microdosing Bravery** Ways to Grow ResilienceAs a human resilience researcher and as a psychotherapist Dr. Lee was curious about resilience—what contributes towards it, what allows us to take risks, what contributes to it. And as someone with a lived experience with anxiety and perfectionism, she realized she needed to take the risk of being more explicit around the dual narrative of her story. “And that was a risk, for me, worth taking,” Dr. Lee says, “to become more comfortable with the uncomfortable in my own story to embrace that duality and then to share it more explicitly and wholeheartedly with the world.”Dr. Lee's journey is so beautiful and the authenticity that shines through her book, Worth the Risk, she is truly a reflection of her own resilience and bravery.
As I was preparing this episode and talking to this week's guest, two words that kept coming up for me were self-doubt and self-worth.In this week's episode of Career Strategies for Women that Work, I'm chatting with my friend Martha Aviles, she's a woman in tech and has had a tremendous career journey, and together, we're going to talk about how to catapult yourself into a direction you desire, even when you may be dealing with self-doubt.And Martha has some experience here. She's propelled herself to a place where she not only values the work that she delivers but where she also values herself and her self-worth. And she has so much to share! In this episode, you're going to learn:Martha's incredible story, and how she learned resilience as a first-generation AmericanHow to build your self-worth and confidenceThe keys to negotiation and how self-worth plays a roleWays Martha's negotiated in her career and how you can too!Full Shownotes: www.jjdigeronimo.com/34 I so appreciate Martha's authenticity and her stories because I feel like we learn through other people's journeys. Martha's parting words for us in this episode are, “Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.” About Marta:our guest, Martha Aviles, Vice President of Marketing for Talroo.com, the award-winning talent attraction platform based in Austin. The daughter of immigrants from Nicaragua, Martha came to Miami when she was 10 years old with her parents and learned to speak English. Her Dad, who saw the value of her studying math and science, encouraged Martha to study both subjects – and as a result, she obtained her MBA. Because of her Dad's encouragement to know no boundaries, she now has 20+ years of B2B marketing experience in SaaS, semiconductor, networking, and network security at start-ups, private, and public companies. As an executive, she has successfully led through 20+ mergers and acquisitions, including managing several integration and acquisition exits. Prior to joining her present position at Talroo, Martha held senior leadership roles in marketing at RigUp (now Workrise) and Enverus - both companies have reached unicorn status.
Words matter. It's not only about how you talk to yourself, but what you say and how you engage with others. Words can shift our perspective. They can empower us or prohibit us. And in this week's episode of Career Strategies for Women that Work, we're going to discuss five powerful word shifts that will make a difference in your life. These have not only given me new opportunities, but they've also given me insight into how I talk to myself, what I align to, and where I want to take my energy next. I know they'll hold the same power for you. I don't know about you, but it seems like things are really starting to pick up pace. There's more phone calls, there's more events. Just a few weeks ago, I drove down to the Eastern Kentucky Women's Leadership Conference. And it just happened to be the day after I held my first in-person retreat for professional women, looking to align more with their flow in Vermilion, Ohio. It was on an estate on Lake Erie, and it was just fantastic. So, believe it or not, I was actually looking forward to the five hour drive down to Kentucky. It's funny because, as I go from event to event, I'm always nervous and I never know who I'm there to meet or who may cross my path. But one of the most exciting pieces of all my travels and especially my work with women's groups is how similar we are in our desire to have more influence and impact. Many of us are just looking for ways to do more of what we love, align to the things that matter to us, and spend time with loved ones. There are five powerful words that I have shifted to over the last couple years that have helped me get closer to those things I desire.5 powerful word shiftsI really had to work on listening to what I was saying and then shift how I was saying things—especially to myself. Once I started paying attention, I found five words that made a difference in so many aspects of my life. 1. Have >> ____________________________2. Should >>___________________________3. Blame >> ___________________________4. ______________________________________5. ______________________________________For many of us, really thinking about the words that we use with other people and with ourselves can shift not only the energy but the power you feel that you have in your life. Make sure you're choosing powerful words that empower you to make good decisions and live a life that aligns with who you are and where you want to throw your energy. Take a listen to get the full scope and more examples of how to make this power shift for yourself.Shifting the words you use isn't always easy, it takes attention and time. But I'm rooting you on! We think we have to do more, have more, be more, and that will sum up to success. And as women, we feel like we have to try to make it look easy, and be pleasing and agreeable on top of that. It can get very overwhelming very quickly and lead to serious burnout. Fear drives a lot of what we do as humans. We often make decisions based on fear, and those don't always land us in the best of spots. So, how do you use fear as something to propel you to a place of impact and influence? In this week's episode of Career Strategies for Women that Work, I'm chatting with my friend Dawna Jones.Dawna has a knack for seeing beneath the surface to identify what is going on and then coming up with novel ways to transform it into a positive impact. I know, I know it's not easy to say no, but if you have aspirations—it's critical that you do! You've got to align yourself to the right activities. If you want to have more influence and impact, you have to find time in your schedule to make that happen. And that involves saying no, which isn't always easy. As women, we tend to be overcommitted; we're working on activities at home, in our community, with friends and family, and then we have full-time jobs that leak or spread into our weekends and evenings. Now, the reason I decided to go forward with this episode and topic is that I've been getting asked, “JJ, how do you say no?” These women all have aspirations, they have a vision for where they want to go, but when it comes down it, someone asks them to do something, they can't say no, and they're diverted from their path.I want to admit that this is not easy for me either. But I think about the alignment. Does the ask align with where I am or where I want to go? Does it give me good energy? Is this something I look forward to? Is this aligned with my sweet spot? The reality we often don't spend enough time investing in our own goals. No is not an easy behavior to create, but if you have aspirations, if you have a north star you're running towards, my best advice is to start small. Let go of things that are not aligning with your goals. Take a listen ~

How relevant are you where you want to have more impact next? This may seem like a silly question at some level; I'm sure you're thinking, “Well, I've been doing this for five, 10, 15 years, I'd say I'm relevant and have few gaps” But what about your next? What professional gaps exist?During crossroads in my career, the question of relevance has often appeared when others may not have known of my experience, knowledge, expertise, or even training. I specifically remember a time in my career when I thought many saw me as a key contributor, an obvious choice for the next promotion, but when I let others around me know I was ready for that next opportunity, I was politely asked to stay focused on my current role instead. I was taken aback and confused, and wasn't willing to leave it at that, so I did some investigation. I was kindly told things such as, “Do you really think you're ready for this new role?, or, “I don't think that makes sense for you right now.” I realized my colleagues didn't see me as relevant! If you have aspirations to take your career to the next level or expand your impact by managing more people or even getting on a board, it's very possible that you have to mind your professional gaps. In this week's Career Strategies for Women That Work, I'm sharing why and how to be aware of where you may have to create more relevance based on what you want and where you want to have more impact next.Check out the show notes: https://jjdigeronimo.com/10
