For years, Jan tried to combine sports and faith, but it didn't work out. People in the world of sports didn't understand his faith, and people in church didn't understand his commitment to his sport. Until he discovered that line in Romans 12 where it says that we are supposed to dedicate our whole body as living sacrifices for the glory of God. This message was given on our first Sports Sunday, and is the last in a three part series on Identity, answering the questions: Who Am I? Where Do I Belong? and What Is My Purpose?

As uncomfy as it can feel for us to think about, sometimes it's not only necessary, but it is appropriate to let certain relationships or friendships go. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're asking ourselves the question, “Where in my life are there personal or professional connections that are no longer working?” I believe if we look close enough, there are probably some old friendships, relationships, and even some marriages or business connections that are no longer feeling aligned with who we are or what we hope to create in our lives. In fact, in some instances those misalignments may even be holding us back from our goals and keeping us from fulfilling our dreams. For this reason, letting go and clearing out every so often can be healthy. As the old saying tells us, “Let go or be dragged.” Ha! I know that sometimes the idea of letting go is scary. However, I can tell you from personal experience that the freedom and clarity that comes with it are worth every unsubscribe or ending. Not only are you no longer tied down to something or someone that feels misaligned, but you're free to welcome in the deeper, more soulful connections that will support, love and grow with you. Are there areas in your life that need a good letting go, cleaning up or clearing out? Stephen and Rev. Jamison Doehring wrap up our sermon series "Childhood Stories and Big Life Questions: Where Do I Belong?" looking at 1 John 3:1-3 and the children's book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. You can email questions/comments to theelementpodcast@stpkaty.org Topics Covered Include: Fighting Texas Aggie Football. Jamison and yoga. 1 John and the book of John are connected in a few different ways. Our new identity in Christ is what makes us different. Peter vs Paul. Life is messy but God is satisfying. Manic Joy vs contented Joy. Jamison almost unplugs the podcast. Things change, that's okay. We should be a praying people not just a people that pray. // The one question to rule them all: Where Do I Belong?

Who's Responsible? 01.25.21 Today on The Couch Time Podcast, Aaron, Stephen, Ryan, and Josh talk about a way that you can use responsibility to train your student on their identity, being in community, and how they can serve others. SHOW NOTES Definition: Adolescence - “The prolonged transitional period of time from childhood to adulthood.” Especially during adolescence we believe there are three primary, and foundational, questions that teens need help answering. Who Am I? Where Do I Belong? What Difference Do I Make? Each of these questions we can find answers to in Scripture. Here are just a few to chew on: Ephesians 2:10 Genesis 1:27 2 Corinthians 5:20 Ephesians 1:5 Based on someones answer to these three questions we find out how to be responsible. Responsibility is the defining characteristic and marker of the end of Adolescence. Responsibility: “Acting, thinking, and speaking accordingly, based on where you are, who is around, and what you’re supposed to be doing.” Pray about, Consider, and search scripture for ways you can teach your students how to be responsible. And use it as a tool and way to talk with them about Christ, both when they succeed and fail. Remind them of Who They are in Him, Where they belong, and What He wants them to do! Ideas? Questions? Send them to podcast@graceky.org or contact the student ministry director at your campus.
