Amy escaped the rain and cold of the Pacific Northwest and jetted off for the sunny Palm Desert. While there basking in the sun and hitting the links she decides she needs to buy a bottle of Laphroaig Oak Select scotch whisky and graciously brings it home for us to try. Luckily, we just happen to have some Laphroaig 10 Year sitting around to try it up against. Give us a listen, comment, and like.Cheers!

Ep. 34: What the Eff-ect?! Buckle up, folks, because this episode is about to get a little...strange. Join us as we delve into some fascinating psychological effects and phenomena, all while sipping and savoring the rich, peaty goodness of Laphroaig Lore whiskey. First up, the autokinetic effect - the trippy illusion that a stationary point of light in the dark appears to be moving. We'll discuss how researchers have used this effect in their studies, and how it might just make your Laphroaig glass seem like it's dancing across the table. Don't worry, it's all in your head (we think). Next, we tackle the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, also known as frequency illusion. This is when something you just learned about suddenly starts popping up everywhere. Like how the Laphroaig Lore bottle design is now all you can see, even in your dreams. Is the whisky controlling your mind? Probably. Finally, we laugh about the Coolidge effect - the tendency for sexual interest to be revived by new partners, even after satiety with a previous one. We'll explore the evolutionary origins of this effect and how it manifests in the animal kingdom (and occasionally, human behavior). Just don't go trying to test this theory after a few too many drams, mmkay? Throughout our discussion, we'll be sipping and savoring the complex flavors of Laphroaig Lore. From its smoky, peaty notes to its hints of vanilla and spice, we'll dissect how this unique whisky perfectly complements the psychological topics at hand. Or is it the other way around? The lines may start to blur after a while. So pour yourself a dram, get cozy, and join us as we explore the intriguing (and occasionally mind-bending) world of human behavior and perception - all while enjoying the exceptional Laphroaig Lore. Just try not to get too distracted by any moving lights or sudden urges. We've got a podcast to record! On this episode we sample an upgraded dram of Laphroaig Nick picked up in Scotland while talking NOT about the New Year but, uploading us to the Matrix, sitting outside around a bonfire drinking scotch, what makes a proper bonfire, the friends of Laphroaig, Nick's plot of land in a peat bog, medicinal goodness, all of the flavor notes of a 1980s nursing home, should have read this in college, The Sun Also Rises, novels that require some life experience, why literature is often lost on those that are forced to read it, writing letters, and a personal sense of distance. GULD TILL PODDEN! Vi tackar, bockar och bugar för Jocke Strö..Storms utnämning av ETW till 2024 års podd. We meet back up with the founder of Klaris, Chase Haider to talk about making ice. Yeah, we know, sounds easy – but there is a science here. Chase gives us the in's and out's of making clear ice (with or without a Klaris machine). Jules outs the budding bromance between Uncle Brad and Chase. In the November episode, editor and writing professor Wendy E. Wallace joins host Aaron Lelito to talk about Peatsmoke Journal. We chat about the origin story of Peatsmoke, what sets it apart from other online lit mags, what they look for during the review process, along with some general submission advice. Wendy grew up in Buffalo, NY, so it was great to talk a bit about the WNY region — the friendly people, beautiful summers, and over-the-top Halloween decorations! If you like good writing, visually appealing lit mags, and a wee dram of peaty Laphroaig, you'll want to listen up! See more about Wendy at her website.
Veckans destilleri – Eden Mill! They explore the importance of seeing the city through the eyes of Jesus, working together in unity, and bringing people to Jesus. To awaken our city, we must see its people through the eyes of Jesus, work together in unity and joy, bring people to Jesus, and realize that this mission requires patience and perseverance. It is worth it to invest in people's lives and love them, even if they don't respond or change. Awakening our city requires patience and perseverance, and we may never be honored in our own city. We must trust Jesus with the results and not rely on our own power. Our ministry and mission field is wherever God has placed us, and we are called to joyfully work and sow the seeds of the gospel. The guys conclude with a controversial feature pour that takes them away from even the podcast name by sharing a Single Malt Scotch with Laphroaig 10-Year. The top cut is used for whiskey (dampest and least compressed, so makes lots of smoke. Young Laphroaig gives the typical peat punch of the island, whereas mature malts from Caol Ila, Bowmore, and Ardbeg distillery provide smoothness and body. The cherry on top is a little dash of the extremely rare Port Ellen distillery adding a great deal of complexity. Islay Whisky at its best! This is a blended malt from vom Fass. It's based on about 80% young Laphroaig according to the guy at the store (I have come to take what guys at stores say about whisky with a pinch of salt) and the rest is mature Caol Ila, Ardbeg, Bowmore and a hint of Port Ellen (likely a teaspoon per cask just to make it fancy).VomFass is german for “From the cask”. Lagavulin is a peaty, yet gentle scotch. It's the more mature one when compared to it's neighbors (Laphroaig & Ardbeg). Nick Offerman worked with Lagavulin to age their whiskey in a Caribbean Rum Cask, and it just didn't work in our opinion. Have you had this before? Check out the video to find out! Kentucky's Wilderness Trail Distillery has grown over the last decade from a small barrel-a-day distillery to become one of the nation's largest Bourbon distilleries. Dr. Pat Heist and Shane Baker founded Wilderness Trail as an offshoot of Ferm Solutions, their consulting business that works with distillers and brewers around the world. This week on WhiskyCast In-Depth, we'll talk with Pat Heist about the origin of Wilderness Trail — in a rock band, of all places, and the circumstances that led to their decision to sell the distillery to Campari in late 2022. In the news, Laphroaig is planning a major expansion, while whisky auction prices have yet to recover from recent declines.
Barry MacAffer is leaving Laphroaig Distillery and his native Islay for a new adventure: building a malt whisky distillery in South Korea. This week on WhiskyCast In-Depth, Barry tells us why he's making the move now and what he'll miss most about Islay. In the news, the threat of tariffs hangs over the whisky industry again as the U.S. Presidential election heats up, another new distillery is in the works for Scotland, and Rosebank Distillery opens its doors to visitors for the first time.
Beam Suntory has successfully tested the use of green hydrogen as a fuel source for directly-firing stills, and is part of a pilot project to create a hydrogen conversion unit that could be deployed at remote distilleries. We'll learn more about the potential of hydrogen as a fuel source for distillers on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, Laphroaig is looking for a new manager, while R&B Distillers has received planning approval for a new distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland and Dr. Bill Lumsden of Glenmorangie makes a surprising admission about this year's Ardbeg Day release.
Do you want to learn about Scotch whisky, tartans and kilts? Well, in this episode, host Reg Ferguson is invited by Simon Brooking from Beam Suntory to indulge in a conversational journey through the world of Scotch and Scottish fashion at New York's Copper and Oak. Simon, a senior ambassador with rich knowledge of Scotch heritage (he's a Scotsman so that makes sense), discusses the distinct flavors and intricacies of various Laphroaig and Bowmore whiskies. Simon is also quite the storyteller (I think it's a cultural thing). When it comes to fashion, wait till you hear them talking about tartans and kilts. No spoilers.

Here is the smoky bits if your ready for it. Islay is the last region we are diving into, the best maybe, my favorite possibly. Badmotivatorbarrels.com/shop/?aff=3 https://www.instagram.com/zsmithwhiskeyandmixology?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw== Patreon.com/the_whiskeyshaman Islay (/ˈaɪlə/ ⓘ EYE-lə; Scottish Gaelic: Ìle, Scots: Ila) is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Known as "The Queen of the Hebrides",[8] it lies in Argyll just south west of Jura and around 40 kilometres (22 nautical miles) north of the Northern Irish coast. The is land's capital is Bowmore where the distinctive round Kilarrow Parish Church and a distillery are located.[9] Port Ellen is the main port.[10] Islay is the fifth-largest Scottish island and the eighth-largest island of the British Isles, with a total area of almost 620 square kilometres (240 sq mi).[Note 1] There is ample evidence of the prehistoric settlement of Islay and the first written reference may have come in the first century AD. The island had become part of the Gaelic Kingdom of Dál Riata during the Early Middle Ages before being absorbed into the Norse Kingdom of the Isles. The later medieval period marked a "cultural high point" with the transfer of the Hebrides to the Kingdom of Scotland and the emergence of the Clan Donald Lordship of the Isles, originally centred at Finlaggan.[13] During the 17th century the power of Clan Donald waned, but improvements to agriculture and transport led to a rising population, which peaked in the mid-19th century.[3] This was followed by substantial forced displacements and declining resident numbers. Today, Islay has over 3,000 inhabitants, and the main commercial activities are agriculture, malt whisky distillation and tourism. The island has a long history of religious observance, and Scottish Gaelic is spoken by about a quarter of the population.[14] Its landscapes have been celebrated through various art forms, and there is a growing interest in renewable energy in the form of wave power. Islay is home to many bird species such as the wintering populations of Greenland white-fronted and barnacle goose, and is a popular destination throughout the year for birdwatchers. The climate is mild and ameliorated by the Gulf Stream. The region is characterised by whiskies with a peat smoke aroma, such as Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. In total, there are nine active distilleries on this island which measures only 25 by 15 miles (40 by 24 kilometres), and the industry is Islay's second largest employer after agriculture.Islay is a centre of "whisky tourism", and hosts a "Festival of Malt and Music" known as Fèis Ìle each year on the last week of May, with events and tastings celebrating the cultural heritage of the island.

With Vanessa off for the weekend to explore the world of psychedelics, the podcast has been hijacked by a cabal of furious, loud, and lubricated Jews. Adaam, 3 martinis and a Laphroaig in, is joined by Newsweek opinion editor and author of Second Class Batya Ungar-Sargon, and Free Press reporter and host of The Re-Education podcast Eli Lake. The three have gathered to refute Jonathan Glazer's Jewishness being worth hijacking by anyone. In proper Talmudic engagement, Batya spits fire, Eli plays devil's advocate, and Adaam speaks up for the grammar Nazis. This week on Neat! we're preparing for the longest nights of the year with something special to warm us up, scotch! And not just any scotch, but one of the most well-loved single malts in the world, Laphroaig!
John Campbell might be a familiar name to Scotch drinkers because of his 27 years at Laphroaig. Now he's the master distiller of Lochlea, which is part of a wave of new single malt Scotch distilleries that have opened in the last few years. Lochlea grows 100% of the malt for their distillate, making them a true farm distillery. As a lowland distillery, Lochlea doesn't make peated whisky. It wouldn't be true to their environment as it is mostly farm land and rolling hills. The Podcast will now be formally known as M365Distilled... the name the boys finally landed on after a few amusing alternatives as we introduce Misky365 and Miss Stilled. This is a strange podcast that takes a few statements from Darrell as a Service, which Steve refined into: No Adoption without User Governance Because user Governance Drives Adoption Adoption plus Governance is managed change So, Steve started a conversation, and the boys just talked about it... coming together with a little basic knowledge about Adoption and Governance and proving the above statements are the basis for Adoption and Governance. What comes out of this podcast are several statements that can be used as a basis for defining your governance and adaptive paths. Here they are: Microsoft default Settings are a form of governance. Viral Governance is a tool that works in many organisations. Governance is actually tough to do... even if you have a plan. Adoption and good Governance may or may not drive better change (the jury is still out). Finally, the Golden Nugget from Marijn is... Adoption plus Change drives Sexy Change. It is a sin that Steve and Marijn have never shared with you the annual release of Cairdeas whisky from Laphroaig, so we tasted the 2023 version and atoned for that sin.

Koray Özdemir, The Whisky Monster, is a globetrotting, WSET Level 3 spirits certified whisky specialist, judge, and consultant, who has made his home in San Francisco by way of Turkey.Koray explains how years ago, playing the saxophone was the perfect breather from his suffocating master's studies. One night, Koray's nerves crept up on him as he was getting ready to play “Got a Match,” the bar manager handed me a glass of Laphroaig 10 Year. From then on, he knew his heart was with another — Whisky! In 2016, Koray turned whisky from a passion into a full-time career. He quit my engineering job. Not even a year later, he packed his bags for San Francisco and realized he had created a Whisky Monster! Since then, Koray has built relationships with other whisky (or whiskey) brain trust members across the US and he meets more like-minded people during every Whisky Monster excursion.

Taste Radio's hosts pondered the potential of innovative, yet imaginary, concepts; examined why discontinued brands and products – including a line of high-profile energy shots – failed to make it; and riffed upon a bevy of new snacks and drinks. This episode also features an interview with Alexandra Dempster and Isabelle Steichen, the co-founders of Lupii, an innovative platform brand that markets lupini bean-based foods. Launched in 2020, Lupii debuted with a line of plant-based protein bars highlighted by its hero ingredient, which the brand promotes as “a high-fiber legume that has 2x more protein than chickpeas and 3x more protein than eggs.” In August 2022, Lupii expanded with a three-SKU line of high-protein and high fiber pastas that contain significantly less carbs than those made with traditional ingredients. The brand is represented in hundreds of chain and independent retailers, primarily in the Northeast, Midwest and Pacific Northwest, including Whole Foods, Safeway and Jewel-Osco. Dempster and Steichen spoke about Lupii's origins and their alignment as co-founders, how they shifted from “survival mode” amid the early months of the pandemic to a focus on thoughtful growth at retail, how they were able to attract interest and funding from angel investors and their vision and plan to develop a platform brand. Show notes: 0:37: How To Meet Top Whole Foods Executives, Scotch Spray, The Fiddy/Craven Connection – Less than a week from BevNET's Meetup at the company's Newton, MA HQ, the hosts highlighted recently announced speakers for BevNET Live Summer 2023 and wondered if some products conceptualized as April Fool's jokes should be commercialized. Ray stirred the pot with his bag of discontinued brands, including those of a cap-activated chia beverage, a blue recovery drink and 50 Cent's energy shot, along with a brain-boosting product with a rather controversial name, before chatting about a highly anticipated collaboration between two massive companies, super-premium chorizo and better-for-you refreshment drinks. 31:51: Interview: Alexandra Dempster & Isabelle Steichen, Co-Founders, Lupii – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif met with Lupii's co-founders at Expo West 2023, where Steichen spoke about how a diverse population in her native country of Luxembourg exposed her to Lupini beans and their nutritional value as compared to other sources of plant and animal-based protein, why she sought to find a co-founder to launch to the brand and how she and Alexandra formed a bond and common vision for the company. They also discussed how they applied consumer insights from early DTC sales to a brick and mortar retail strategy, identifying Lupii's core consumer, how they articulate the brand's “trifecta of benefits,” iterating amid growth, achieving a “sweet spot” within the pasta category and their perspective on venture funding for women-owned and -led brands. Brands in this episode: Laphroaig, Fly By Jing, Paqui, Sanzo, Ithaca Hummus, Hendrick's Gin, Moju, Neuro, 5-hour Energy, Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel's, Simply, Fanta, Lentiful, Funky Mello, Skippy, Justin's, Teddy's, Tip Top Cocktails, Togronis, Crafthouse Cocktails, Three Sisters Meats, Paro, Update, Phocus, Petal, Bossa Nova, Spindrift, Lemonback, Lupii, Oatly, Banza
