Send us a textWelcome to another episode of Seasons of Joy--A quarterly series produced with the help of Stacy's friend and kindred, mindfulness coach Joy Jordan. The series was born out of their shared love of nature, the seasons, and their belief that each season holds its own wisdom. When Stacy and Joy get together to record each episode, they chat about the challenges and juicy bits each season holds, as well as sharing examples with YOU on how to each get through the challenging moments each season holds. In this episode we start with a voicemail that offers a lesson we can all take with us. Stacy and Joy chat about the challenges of spring, the juicy bits they love and share some practices they use to weather (see what we did there?) the challenges springtime brings with it.Episode Links:Joy Jordan's WebsiteStacy's WebsiteSupport the showHelp Support Full Spirals and give the Arts a Voice! The other is our shared belief in paying attention to the seasons–and how they effect our lives. Send us a textToday's episode is about the seasons of our lives. The phrase "seasons in life" is a metaphor that compares the different stages of a person's life to the changing seasons of the year. Each season has its own characteristics, and so do the different periods of life, which can include times of growth, change, and dormancy. Here are some examples of the seasons of life and their characteristics:Spring: A time of new beginnings and youthSummer: A time of passion, growth, and young adulthoodAutumn: A time of change, reflection, and maturityWinter: A time of waiting, struggles, and an ending Some say that the human life cycle has six main stages: fetus, baby, child, adolescent, adult, and elderly. However, people are continually changing throughout all of these stages. Some say that it's important to know what season of life you're in, and that no season lasts forever. I personally just put together that I'm in the Autumn of my life and I'm embracing this time by allowing myself to feel all of the feels around getting older, AND I am constantly inspired by the women I work with in my Sages Story Circles because most of them are a “season ahead of me” in the winter of their lives, and they constantly bring forward rich and heartwarming content that I feel so grateful to receive.Today I'm sharing two stories or rather two pieces with you. One is from a poetry group I'm currently workshopping with (Meredith Heller's Writing by Heart Poetry Workshops) and the other is from one of my Sages named Julie titled: Ode to an Aging Body. These ladies get me and they're always providing just what I need when I need it—and the things they share are often so profound that I feel the need to share them widely—because as I say at the end of every Full Spirals Episode–we really are all in this together. June Millington is a pioneer in the truest sense of the word. She and her sister Jean co-founded the all-female rock band FANNY in the early 70's—a time when women weren't “supposed” to rock. Fanny was the FIRST all girl rock group to be signed to a major label—and David Bowie was one of their biggest fans. "Co-founded in California 50 years ago by these Filipina American and queer teenagers, FANNY made history as the first all women band to release an album with a major record label (Warner/Reprise, 1970). As young women who expertly played their own instruments, Fanny bandmates penned original songs that were ahead of their time, with lyrics exploring themes of sexual freedom, war, relationships and identity. " (PBS Documentary)As the lead guitarist of the band, June took a lot of hits—but she always found a way to rise above. After surviving heartbreak and disillusionment, she and her partner Ann Hackler co-founded the nonprofit Institute for the Musical Arts (IMA) where she serves as Artistic Director. The story of the band FANNY, can be seen in the PBS documentary—”Fanny: “The Right to Rock”. In this episode, we're offering a sneak peek into our upcoming Sages series, which promises to be a deeply impactful and insightful journey. The Sages series is a tribute to the voices of elder women, individuals who embody wisdom and insight derived from rich life experiences. This series is close to my heart, as it's born from the genuine connections I've made with these remarkable women.Meet Our Sages: These episodes are inspired by a group of extraordinary women, the original sages, who I've had the privilege of interacting with since 2014 during my brain and body wellness classes. They're vibrant, funny, and endlessly fascinating. Over time, I've expanded this group by facilitating a women's story circle at a local senior center. This work is a labor of love, and I feel truly humbled to be a part of it.Stories from the Sages: Today, I'm thrilled to share a compilation of stories from our pilot story circle program. Our first story comes from Emma, a remarkable woman at the age of 96. Emma's narrative takes a captivating turn when she recounts her time in the field of nursing. A particularly poignant moment emerges when she shares an experience of delivering a baby and having to make critical decisions when the doctor was unavailable. Her candid account reflects her strength and the pivotal role she played in bringing new life into the world.Peggy, another sage, shares a heartwarming tale about her favorite teacher, Mr. Waters. While not excelling in many subjects, Peggy found her passion and brilliance in art class. Her nostalgia-filled journey back to her hometown to reconnect with Mr. Waters leads to an unexpected revelation about their shared adventurous spirit.Themes of the Sages Series: The Full Spirals podcast and our upcoming Sages series delve into deeply personal themes. One prevailing theme is the idea of aging as a woman in a culture that often diminishes our value as we grow older. The series aims to challenge these notions, highlight true worth beyond physical appearance, and explore the process of redefining our value as individuals.Support the show

Full Spirals is celebrating its SECOND ANNIVERSARY this month and it's been a time of reflection. As we continue to amplify the voices of women this season--and look forward to amplifying the voices of elder women next season--we take a look back to where this all began. It's a look back to an episode from our first season which was titled : The Sound of Silence, and it's a deep dive into the good that came out of Stacy's time in lockdown, and the gifts that she received not only as an artist, but as a human. Even in the midst of the train wreck that was 2020, and the heartbreak that was 2021, she discovered once again, that everything was on purpose--even if it didn't seem that way at the time. And this lesson is as relevant today as it was the day it was originally published because this is an exploration of identity, self-discovery, and the transformative power of storytelling.Netflix Special mentioned in this episode:Feminists: What Were They ThinkingBecome a "Spinner" and support Full Spirals in an ongoing way, for as little as $1/MONTH.Or you can Support the show with a one time Donation to help cover production costs.Share the story of your voice HERE on the Full Spirals Facebook Page!Support the show

She began her career as a human rights lawyer in Australia and completed her Ph.D in therapeutic jurisprudence after surviving toxic relationships, to help other women survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault seek justice. As an empathic soul, this demanding career led her to once again seek the mystical in the moon and the stars, and the result is her best selling book "Lunar Abundance®.
