Stefani Heller is a producer, manager, and audio engineer, among other things. She started Heller Music Group, started Women In The Studio, and this is her third time on Bit Depth. We talked about what she's done since the last time she was on, like working at Castle Row, managing artists, going to law school, and more. There's some great music business wisdom that Stefani shares on here, so any musically inclined person might benefit from giving this one a listen. She's not here for no reason, though. She has a charity show coming up on March 11th at 7pm and here's the text she has for the event: ”Art Fusion is an event where local music and visual art collide. Some of OKC's most talented bands and artists will be presenting their art at one of the city's most prominent event centers, The Yale Theater in OKC. While our guests enjoy music from multiple genres including Singer/Songwriter with a taste of Rock, Neo Soul, Hip/Hop mixed with poetry, and Alternative Rock and Hip/Hop crossover, you can browse the walls with canvas's created by four our most talented local painters. If that isn't enough, two live paintings will take place throughout the evening and raffled off to benefit the Girls Rock Camp in OKC. There is so much to experience and enjoy, we hope you fall in love with the journey this night will take you on. Grab a drink with us and live local. GA and VIP options are both available.” Here's a link to the event: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/5815323/art-fusion-oklahoma-city-yale-theater You can find Stefani on Instagram, which has links to other things: https://www.instagram.com/heller51/ The songs playing at the end are “don't need u” by ROZ and “Do What We Want” by Original Flow: https://open.spotify.com/track/79ZDjzAbUew4mAgFcI3Rjw?si=5bb196bda79b4303 https://open.spotify.com/track/3uoUIbrVs4V881jlY0GCPz?si=5f51f5b5c4eb4803 Bit Depth: https://santiagoramones.com/podcast Music: https://santiagoramones.com/music Discord: https://santiagoramones.com/discord The song by me playing at the end is not released yet. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/santiagoramones/support

Bianca chats with Hilken Mancini about her famed career in punk rock industry and how she invented Punk Rock Aerobics - something she is still teaching virtually every week. Mancini is starring in the new Green Day "Here Comes the Shock' video performing her signature work-out moves. Just in her early 20's her first band Fuzzy was signed to a major label. Rolling Stone called their song Flashlight one of the top 50 song's of the 1990's. When not making music or teaching fitness classes she runs her own vintage store in Boston's vibrant Jamaica Plain neighborhood ( http://www.fortysouthst.com/) . Mancini has been a big supporter of young women in music as she expanded the Girls Rock Camp organization, after learning about the organization out west she brought a chapter to Boston. Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) is a member of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance. A foundation created to empower girls to believe in themselves by providing a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through musical education and performance.
Hilken Mancini came by the studio on an early Saturday morning for our interview, just before opening her vintage clothing boutique (40 South Street) in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, to talk about some of her many accomplishments. After moving to Boston from Syracuse in the early 90's, her band Fuzzy created quite the buzz and were signed to Atlantic Records. From there she has played in a variety of bands(The Count Me Outs, Shepherdess, The Monsiers etc..) and also started the internationally known "Punk Rock Aerobics" with Maura Jasper, which recently resulted in her appearing in a Green Day video. We also spoke about how she started "Girls Rock Camp Boston" in 2010. A fine and educating time we had.... Rock music isn't a cure for depression or anxiety. You can't wail away on “Smoke on the Water” and have all your mental difficulties melt away. That would be awesome, sure, but that's not how it works. But for Chelsea Ursin, playing was a lot of other things: a break from the nagging mental disorders that created so many problems from a young age, a channel through which to express herself, and an opportunity to help the next generation of girls have a smoother and healthier time than she did. Ursin is the creator and host of Dear Young Rocker, a podcast that started with letters from her modern-day self to her teenage self and which now features other women in rock telling the stories of their younger selves.Listen to Dear Young Rocker here or on the podcatcher of your choice. I might be a Universal Unitarian after this one! Erin Walter, the vocalist and bassist from Parker Woodland calls in from Estes Park Colorado to talk to us about her passion for her music, the ideas that permeate her writing, and what she did during quarantine.Austin, Texas indie-rock collective Parker Woodland has been fighting the good fight to share the healing powers of music even before the pandemic hit. And when it did, they doubled down. The band's driving force is inspiring songwriter/vocalist/bassist Erin Walter, a Unitarian Universalist minister, activist for Girls Rock Camp and a whirlwind of positivity. Instead of sitting things out for the year, Walter and company released the “propulsive” (Austin American Statesman) EP The World Is On Fire (And We Still Fall In Love) in February and launched a 80-city virtual tour which includes UU churches, a festival for peace with Willie Nelson and Eliza Gilkyson, a Girls Rock Camp SXSW event and festival, a women's conference, and Play For The Vote (Beyonce, Paul McCartney, Adele and Aretha Franklin also performed) to remind people of the good things that connect us despite the hardships life throws at us. The tour continues at least through August (more info here). While the band started as a trio of friends with Walter, Strait Music's Dan McMonigle on guitar, and DJ/artist Ralph Cutler on drums, during the pandemic Parker Woodland has evolved into a diverse collective of musicians which has resulted in even more exuberant and lively performances than before. With the ongoing virtual tour, a livestream video trilogy release party and discussion with the video creators and actual live performances to be announced soon, you can bet when those live shows happen they will be even more uplifting and explosive than before. In the meantime, there is plenty to experience online. “The World's On Fire trilogy is my documentation of Austin band life, from practice space to studio, the garage to the stage to the road,” Walter said. “I hope the videos celebrate how special the Austin music community is and remind everyone how much we have to look forward to as we emerge from the pandemic. Though some things will be forever changed, like losing Music Lab, music is the magic that brings us together.WEBSITE | SPOTIFY | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | YOUTUBE // LYRICS | RADIO EDITS | PRODUCTION CREDITS | PHOTOS

Chelsea has a transformative experience as a mentor and music teacher at a week of Girls Rock Camp. Her band of high schoolers causes her to feel protective and to show up for them in ways she didn’t think she could. There is a challenge, though, with the vocalist of her band - a shy kid who reminds her of herself and seems like she might not be able to work up the courage to sing before the big performance at the end of the week. By RNZJesse Mulligan alongside The Edge radio station's Sharyn Casey and Jayden King have been announced as host of the inaugural Aotearoa Music Awards. The awards replace the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and aim to "reinterpret what it means to be a Kiwi musician".In addition to the new name and identity, the format of this year's event will be different. In previous years the ceremony was a fast-moving two-and-a-half-hour presentation including eight musical performances. This year's show will be extended to three and a half hours and will include an impressive 18 performances, which organisers are promising will be "intimate".Twenty awards will be presented on the night and multiple inductees will be welcomed into the NZ Music Hall of Fame. After a rough year for the music industry due to Covid-19, the awards' charity partners will be a key focus of the ceremony. Partners include MusicHelps, Crescendo Trust, Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre, and Girls Rock Camp. The Aotearoa Music Awards are organised by industry body Recorded Music NZ, which represents record producers, distributors and recording artists who sell recorded music in New Zealand. Its manager Sarah Owen says, "The decision to rebrand the awards aligns with continued efforts to recognise Aotearoa's tangata whenua and te reo Māori as the first language of New Zealand, as well as the importance of Te Ao Māori in our lives."With the renaming to Aotearoa Music Awards and the kaupapa behind that, we are taking another step in bringing the awards back to the core of what they're for: to celebrate, support and encourage the creative journeys of all our recording artists."-RNZ

An annual camp aimed at encouraging young women and gender non-binary youth to get involved in music will go online this year. Pōneke are planning a version of the camp that will try to replicate the experience digitally in July. Ali Burns is a camp co-ordinator.

Welcome to launch day and the first official episode of Psychosocial Cinema! Here are some shownotes for you to peruse for a wet and wild discussion of one of Hollywood’s greatest oddities: Waterworld! Eric LaForest / Porcelain Backsplash - The mastermind behind my show’s intro music and sound palete. Here we learn some back story on Eric’s love for cinema and Waterworld. Next, we discuss how, if it is even possible, to dissect Waterworld and make sense of it in modern times. Does Waterworld actually parallel modern day events…..did it predict Global Warming!?! We round out the show by talking about some memories we have of the film along with a pretty dope detour in the concept of human mutations (super powers) and how Kevin Costner’s “The Mariner” character served as a jumpstart for some pretty imaginative thoughts back in the day. Now, what would an initial episode be without some gnarly shout outs: Girls Rock Camp - https://www.facebook.com/Grcstpete/ Eric’s wife, Amanda (AKA The Peach Moon), plays a pretty cool role in helping young ladies in St. Pete who attend this camp to learn some awesome skills, both musical and Intra / Interpersonally speaking.
