Mentorship is a critical component of personal and professional growth. A supportive mentor enables mentees to develop critical skills, make better decisions, and achieve their goals faster by providing guidance, perspective, and encouragement along their journey. Furthermore, mentors benefit by expanding their network, reinforcing their knowledge, and deriving satisfaction from contributing to the success of others. Mentorship is a valuable, reciprocal relationship that fosters learning, development, and change for both the mentor and mentee. In the podcast, Scott Miller shares his insight into how mentorship can impact individuals in various aspects of life. He offers personal stories and experiences, highlighting the importance of recognizing the potential mentorship opportunities that exist beyond traditional boundaries. By emphasizing the powerful and transformative effects of mentorship, Miller encourages listeners to actively pursue mentoring relationships that enrich personal and professional lives, and explains the 13 roles mentors play, based on information in his book The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship. In this episode: Unveil the importance of mentorship and why anyone can be a mentor. Decode the 13 essential roles of mentors in guiding their mentees. Realize the value of genuine feedback and vulnerability in fostering strong mentor-mentee connections. Examine the lifelong benefits that mentorship can provide for you and your career. Identify how everything from setting boundaries to celebrating matters in the mentor-mentee relationship (and some language to help you along your way!) Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction, Scott Miller is a multi best-selling author, special advisor on thought leadership for the Franklin Covey Company, and a globally celebrated keynote speaker. He has previously been a guest on The Brainy Business podcast to discuss his books Marketing Mess to Brand Success and Management Mess to Leadership Success. In today's episode, he talks about his new book, The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship. 00:06:42 - Importance of Mentorship, Mentorship is a key part of companies' employee development plans. However, most people don't know what to do as a mentor. Scott wrote The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship to help people become better mentors. The book outlines 13 roles that all mentors can play, which will help them ask better questions, be more patient, and be more thoughtful. 00:10:16 - Informal Mentorship, Scott shares the story of how Bruce Williams, a radio host who has since passed away, became a mentor to him without ever knowing it. This highlights the importance of informal mentorship and how people can redefine what mentorship looks like. For example, by following favorite bloggers or podcasts, those thought leaders can be a mentor to you (even if you never talk to them and they don't know your name). 00:14:21 - The Power of Mentorship, Scott and Melina discuss the impact of mentorship on individuals and society, highlighting the importance of having a framework for effective mentorship. Scott introduces his book, The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship, and introduces the 13 roles a mentor can play. 00:17:32 - The 13 Roles of Great Mentorship, Scott discusses the 13 roles a mentor can play outlined in his book, emphasizing that a mentor may not necessarily play all 13 roles and why they need to adapt their role depending on the mentee's situation (you aren't just one “type” of mentor, you need to wear multiple hats during your time as a mentor). He highlights the importance of having an awareness of these roles and how they can be used to support a mentee effectively. 00:21:01 - The Importance of Validation in Mentorship, Scott shares his personal story of being validated by a stranger at a young age, which had a profound impact on his life. He emphasizes the role of the Validator in mentorship and the power of validating a mentee's genius, skill, and talent. He provides tips for how to effectively validate a mentee and how this can be a transition point for them to move towards more effective mindsets. 00:23:05 - Scott's Six-Step Closing Process, Scott introduces his six-step closing process, which includes naming what has been learned from the mentee, validating their genius, and setting them on their way. He emphasizes the importance of taking away something from each mentor session and using it to improve oneself. 00:28:34 - Caution for the Validator, The Validator role in mentoring should be used with care. Rather than validating mentees for small actions, acknowledge their genius, and give them lifelong courage to retrieve it when they need it. 00:32:41 - The Flagger Role, The Flagger is the challenger on steroids, who stops a conversation in its tracks to challenge an idea. Diplomatically flagging issues prevents potential conflict in the future. 00:37:57 - The Boundary Setter, Setting boundaries is an uncomfortable yet essential conversation that every mentor needs to have. Mismatched or unfulfilled expectations cause most conflicts in life, and setting clear boundaries is key to avoiding any potential issues. Scott provides some sample language the listener can use in their own mentoring sessions immediately. 00:41:24 - Honing in on Boundaries, It's important to have a clear understanding of each other's boundaries in mentorship. Starting with an uncomfortable conversation about boundaries can prevent future awkwardness and allow for a more productive relationship. 00:42:53 - Importance of Situational Mentorship, Scott emphasizes the importance of situational mentorship and tailoring conversations to the mentee's needs. He suggests checking out greatmentorship.com for videos and tools, and invites people to connect with him on social media. 00:44:27 - Scott's Impact on Melina, Melina thanks Scott for being a mentor to her, and Scott reflects on how anyone can be a mentor (with or without realizing it). They encourage listeners to reflect on who has impacted their lives and consider sharing their gratitude with them. 00:45:00 - What is Mentorship?, Melina and Scott discuss the meaning of mentorship and how it can be informal and brief. They encourage listeners to reflect on the mentors in their lives and consider sharing their impact with them. 00:46:19 - Reflecting on Impactful Moments, Melina encourages listeners to reflect on small or big moments that were impactful and consider who was part of them. She suggests telling mentors how they have impacted their lives and invites listeners to connect with her and Scott on social media. 00:46:30 - Conclusion, Melina's top insights from the conversation. Hello my fellow music-lover.  Good to be back with you again after a too-long absence.  Life has had too much on my plate and I've not had lots of extra time to create a set...until now.  Just in time, right?  Spring is in the air.  The sun is out.  The air is warm.  The birds are chirping.  And here's new music to match the season. I'm always excited about releasing a new music project.  But I'm particularly excited about this set.  Maybe it's because it's been a few months since I've created a set.  I do have a good story to accompany the mix.  I was actually going to release this a week ago -- but I was having reservations about a couple of the songs on the mix.  First, I wasn't really *feeling* the opening song and I'm a huge believer that the opening song is possibly the most important song of the mix (if there is one?) as it sets the stage for what's to come.  Just as I know from the first note if I like a song or not...I believe that YOU should know from the first note of my set whether you are going to like the journey (or not).  There was also another song or two later in the mix that didn't quite gel with the rest of them. So....I held off and didn't push the mix out.  Fast forward to yesterday morning and I was on a call with my friend Michael Rackley and...as we always do...we started talking about music.  We're DJs.  What else are we supposed to talk about? ;-)  He asked me if I had heard the new Galantis acoustic mix of Becky Hill's "Run".  I hadn't!  He the asked if I had heard Gryffin's new collaboration with OneRepublic "You Were Loved".  I hadn't heard that either.  Well, there you go.  There's your first two songs on the set.  Thank you Michael for solving the problem of what to open my set with.  It's a big and powerful heart-tugging acoustic anthem and I hope that you love it as much as I (WE) do.  From there I weave my way through my signature deep house soothers that segue into uplifting vocal anthems that again segue into driving spine-chilling instrumental masterpieces.  They segues are subtle;  you will hardly notice as I push the energy and intensity higher.  If you're a Flagger...your Flags are going to end up in whipped excitement.  If you're a Dancer....your hands will reach for the sky.  Eyes closed.  Hands high.  As always this music project is an act of LOVE.  Every note, tone and word you hear is rooted in Love.  From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY. PS:  One of you turned me on to the third song "Starlit Afternoon" by Craig Strickland and I can't remember which one of you did.  THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for doing so.  I'm in love with it and it's on constant rotation with me.  AMAZING. #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Becky Hill/Run/Galantis Acoustic02.  OneRepublic/You Were Loved/Gryffin Original03.  Craig Strickland/Starlit Afternoon04.  Nathan Nicholson/Saint Louis/Original Mix05.  Christian Burns/Tigers/LIVA Extended Mix06.  Moby/Almost Home/Sebastien Remix07.  Linney/Lullaby/Le Youth Extended Mix08.  Linney/Stay With Me/AVIRA Extended Mix09.  Sam Gray/Wild Feelings/Extended Mix10.  Brandon Mignacca/Searchlight/Elypsis Extended11.  ARTY/So Good To Me/Extended Mix12.  RBBTS/Lighthouse/Le Youth Extended Mix13.  Magnus/Heaven/Extended Mix14.  Nora En Pure/Tribe Of Kindness/Extended Mix15.  Chicane/Sunstroke/Disco Citizens Evolution MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  615-418-8900Email:  IAMBRIANNORWOOD@GMAIL.COMInsta:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian Norwood

GHIT 0327:  John Kolesa on AER (American Endurance Racing) John Kolesa started American Endurance Racing several years ago and Bill had a great time racing with the series at PittRace, so we had to have him on to officially introduce everyone to the series if you are not already familiar with AER.  Since starting the series in 2014, AER has assumed a position towards the more competitive/higher performance segment of the amateur endurance racing community.  The series was desiring to be more open to different cars and modified cars by having a simpler classing process that uses qualifying times to initially calls cars and then can re-classify cars throughout the weekend if there are drivers with significant range of skills on a team.  The top class is an exhibition class that is based on a power to weight basis.  The technology that AER uses during the race weekend is among the best we have seen in amateur racing. KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2022 Europe, in Valencia: Bring a Mask

The New Stack Podcast

Last week, the country of Spain dropped its mandate for residents and visitors to wear masks, to ward off further infections of the Coronavirus. So, for this year's KubeCon + CloudNativeCon  Europe conference, to be held May 16 - 20th of May in Valencia, Spain, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation dropped its own original mandate that attendees wear masks, a rule that had been in place for its other recent conferences. This turned out to be the wrong decision, CNCF admitted a week later. A lot of people who already bought tickets were upset at this laxing of the rules for the conference, which could put them in greater danger of contacting the disease. So the CNCF put the mandate back in place, and offered refunds for those who felt Spain's own decision would put them in harm's way. CNCF will even send you a week's worth of N95 masks if you request them. So, long story short: bring a mask to KubeCon. And, as always, it is still a requirement to show proof of vaccination and temperature checks will be made as well.Tricky business running a conference in this time, no?In this latest episode of The New Stack Makers podcast, we take a look at what to expect from this year's KubeCon EU 2022. Our guests for this podcast are Priyanka Sharma, the executive director of CNCF, and Ricardo Rocha, who is a KubeCon co-chair and computer engineer at CERN. TNS Editor-in-chief Joab Jackson hosted this podcast. We recorded this podcast prior to the discussion around masks, and at the time, Sharma said that the CNCF based the mask ruling on Spain's own country-wide mandates. "So we are being very cautious with the health requirements for the event," she said. The conference team is also keeping an eye on Russia's aggressive moves in the Ukraine, though it is unlikely that the chaos will reach all the way to Spain. Still, "this is why it's essential to always have the hybrid option .. [to] have the virtual elements sorted," Sharma said.As the CNCF flagship conference, KubeCon brings together managers and users of a wide variety of cloud native technologies, including containerd, CoreDNS, Envoy, etcd, Fluentd, Harbor, Helm, Istio, Jaeger, Kubernetes, Linkerd, Open Policy Agent, Prometheus, Rook, Vitess, Argo, CRI-O, Crossplane, dapr, Dragonfly,  Falco, Flagger, Flux, gRPC, KEDA, SPIFFE, SPIRE, and Thanos, and many many more. Most have been featured on TNS at one time or another. In this podcast, we also discuss what to expect from the virtual sessions at the conference, what to do in Valencia, the current state of Kubernetes, and we get some unofficial picks from Sharma and Rocha as to what keynotes not miss and what sessions to attend."The virtual option is great," Rocha said. "But I think the in-person conferences have have their own value. And there's a lot to be to be gained about meeting people directly and exchanging ideas and going to these events on the side of the conference as well."

Liberty and Posterity with Ron Higgins

This program is being recorded on Thursday, September 9, 2021, for broadcast at a later date. This program will continue to discuss the events surrounding the mostly peaceful demonstration against the fraudulent 2020 election that occurred at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. I am continuing to do this because this situation vividly illustrates the destruction of our Constitutional Republic. Numerous citizens who exercised their First Amendment rights of freedom of speech, freedom to peaceably assemble, and freedom to petition for a redress of grievances because of the blatant fraud that occurred during the 2020 election have been incarcerated and tortured without a trial, thus violating the Fifth (deprived of liberty without due process), Sixth (deprived of a right to a speedy trial), and Eighth Amendment (deprived of reasonable bail and subject to cruel and unusual punishment) rights of these citizens. This outrageous criminal action by our government against law-abiding citizens is indicative of what the ruling class wants to do to any who question them or obstruct them in any way and is a message from our Deep State rulers to us to cower us into submission by giving us vivid examples of how cruel, sadistic, and criminal their behavior can be towards those who oppose them. As I said in a previous program, you are guaranteed to have friendly relations with liberals if you hand over your possessions, hand over your children, hand over your liberty, and keep your mouth shut. I intend to do none of these. Specifically, in this program, I will be reading, and commenting on, an article entitled “Sentencing Suddenly Delayed for MAGA-Hatted ‘Democrat' Present at Capitol Siege after Feds Discover New Evidence,” by Aaron Keller, which was published in lawandcrime.com on August 18, 2021. I will also read portions of, and comment on, the article entitled “NOT MAKING HEADLINES: Utah Activist John Sullivan Organized Antifa Protest Near US Capitol Before It Was Stormed — Tweeted About BLM Buses in DC on the 6th”, by Jim Hoft, which was published by the Gateway Pundit on January 9, 2021, and on the article entitled “Judicial Watch Asks Federal Court for Discovery in Lawsuit against U.S. Capitol Police for January 6 Videos,” which was published on the Judicial Watch website judicialwatch.org on September 7, 2021. Five people died during the January 6, 2021 demonstration at the US Capitol, but the only death by violence was that of Ashli Babbitt, callously shot by a Capitol Police Officer. Never forget Ashli Babbitt. My email address is freedom@libertyandposterity.com. © Copyright 2021 Liberty and Posterity

I love cars, the faster the better.  I've been blessed to be able to attend the Firestone Grand Prix which is held annually here in streets of downtown St. Petersburg, FL.  They actually turn the streets of the city into an amazing race track where the Formula 1 cars race around the track for a full weekend and drive for the grand prize.  It's such a fun event.  If you ever have a chance to attend, it's a must see.  It's held in the month of March.   It just so happened that I met JoAnne Jensen on the first day of the races.  JoAnne is our guest today. JoAnne tells us how she got into the motorsports business and how she rose up the ranks in a predominately male industry (and how you too can get involved in the business).       JoAnne Jensen became involved in Motorsports in 1981 as a volunteer Marshall - a flagger, you know, the ones wearing the white suits on the corners.  It has been her good fortune to work with Formula 1, The World Endurance Cup, NASCAR, Indy Car and its earlier predecessor groups.    She works for two sanctioning bodies:  Indy Car – The Premiere Open Wheel/Formula Car Group and IMSA -The Premiere Sports Car Racing Group.  She is a nationally licensed racing steward and has been a registrar and race chairman.   Check out JoAnne's interview and get inspired to rev up your engine and add some excitement  into your life.   So ladies and gents, start your engines, on your mark, get set, go!   Be sure to stay in touch with JoAnne at JoanneJensen@cox.net   AND if you like this episode, please share the love and pass it on!     Rock On & Rock Out,   Dawn-Marie (D.M.) Work zone ahead. Flagger ahead. Be prepared to stop. Traffic fines double when workers are present. These are just a few of the signs you might see in any work zone along Texas highways. But for some motorists, those warning signs aren't enough to get their attention. As a result, there were more than 15,000 wrecks in Texas work zones in 2009, which resulted in more than 100 fatalities. And here's the kicker - four out of five of those fatalities were drivers or their passengers, not construction workers. To help raise awareness of the caution required of both workers and motorists in work zones, TxDOT is teaming up with the Federal Highway Administration to support National Work Zone Awareness Week, which begins Monday. For more on National Work Zone Awareness Week, I spoke with Jerral Wyer, Director of TxDOT's Occupational Safety Division.
