"God is in Control". Daniel 11 - Justin Fisher - March 2, 2025
Election campaigns often put significant effort into persuading voters that their candidate(s) could win. But does such campaigning really change people's expectations of who might win? And even if it people's views do change, does being seen as a more likely winner really help you win the election? Or in other words, are all those "winning here" posters and bar charts worth it? The latest episode of Never Mind The Bar Charts welcomes back to the show Justin Fisher to discuss just that, courtesy of new research from himself and two colleagues. Feedback very welcome, and do share this podcast with others who you think may enjoy it. Show notes "Innocent Bystanders or the Forgotten Actors?

Irish Illustrated Insider delves into Notre Dame's final—and very public—test of spring ball 2024. Who's out and why? Who'll shine among the first unit, and what does that mean? And what about Justin Fisher and Andrew Yanoshak?
For over 10 years Justin Fisher lived in many parts of the backhouse of The Amherst House where Weezer and other bands were born. He lived in the bedroom, the living room, and even the makeshift attic. All because he moved to LA to achieve the American of becoming a professional musician and running off with a Californian cheerleader and raising a beautiful family. Mission accomplished. Hear how he did it.

What if we told you that the often overlooked aspect of party finance plays a critical role in shaping British politics? As we dive into the historical landscape of political funding, our guest Justin Fisher from Brunel University brings his 35 years of expertise in political science to help us unravel the complexities and motivations behind political donations.Throughout the episode, we examine the roles of trade unions, businesses, and individual contributions in shaping the political landscape and highlight the major differences between how the Conservative and Labour parties have been financed over the years. Furthermore, we tackle the subject of transparency in political finance and its implications on public trust. In the final part of our conversation, we venture into the topic of greater state funding for political parties, weighing the pros and cons of such a model and how it could be implemented. To learn more about Justin and his research you can find him at Professor Justin Fisher | Introduction | Brunel University London. We hope you enjoy the podcast!
In this episode, we are doing something a little different. We wanted to give you a sneak peak at what the In Motion Conference in 2019 was like. We are planning to do another In Motion Conference in late Fall 2023 (one year from now) and so we thought this would help get folks excited about attending and even getting involved in planning. If you are interested in potentially helping out, you can reach us at info@inmotionconference.com. This was one of our first breakouts from the 2019 In Motion Conference and it was called “How to take your work to the next level” and was all focused on production quality. The panelists were cinematographer Alvaro Aro, sound mixer Justin Fisher, visual effects artist Josh Johnson, and editor/filmmaker Brittney Butler. It was all moderated by our podcast's co-host Jessica Ambuehl who also helped produce the entire conference. It will start out with moderated questions and ends with Q&A. It's back to more serious matters in this episode of Never Mind The Bar Charts after last time's board game review - the role of money in British politics. I was delighted to have on the show Professor Justin Fisher, one of the country's leading experts on the topic and someone whose research into grassroots politics makes him a better informed expert than many on what really goes inside political parties. Feedback very welcome, and do share this podcast with others who you think may enjoy it. Show notes Jeremy Thorpe's role in unlocking the beast of national political spending. We all know about the love Liberal Democrats have of delivering leaflets. So our dream professor of politics would be one who specialises in studying leaflets. Which is why I’m delighted to say that is just who I was speaking to for the latest episode of Never Mind The Bar Charts, Professor Caitlin Milazzo of Nottingham University. We talked about how political leaflets are changing, the impact they have, how political campaigning isn't getting more negative and the evidence that female candidates are more likely than male candidates to make an important mistake with their election literature. Listen on to find out more, including how to avoid that mistake yourself... Feedback very welcome, and do share this podcast with others who you think may enjoy it. Show notes The Open Elections project. Upload a leaflet to the Open Elections project or help code those already uploaded here (currently after leaflets for the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Senedd elections). This is Part 2 of a 2-part series on the murder of Barry Winchell. I highly recommend listening to Part 1 before continuing with this episode. In 1999, 21-year old Barry Winchell was a part of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. In March, he began dating a transgender woman named Calpernia Addams. Although he met her at a gay club after Barry’s roommate, Justin Fisher, invited a group of friends to the club, Fisher began to taunt Barry about his sexuality. Fisher began a wicked rumor around the barracks that Barry was gay. This was a big deal, since someone discovered to be gay could be forced out of the military with a less than honorable service characterization. Barry tried to lay low, but the taunts continued. During the 4th of July weekend, the guys were BBQing in the barracks, when the youngest member of the unit, Calvin Glover, came outside and began slinging absurd tales about the crimes he committed back home. Barry told the young soldier to shut up and go to bed and this ignited a feud that would lead to Barry’s murder just 30 hours later at the hands of 18-year old Glover, but instigated by Barry’s roommate, 26-year old Fisher. Dig in with Margot as she discusses the conclusion of the murder of Barry Winchell, the ensuring trials, and the DADT policy. -----All sources for this episode can be found here. In 1999, 21-year old Barry Winchell was part of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He planned to make the military a career. Specifically, he wanted to go to Warrant Officer school and eventually become a helicopter pilot. In March 1999, he began dating Calpernia Addams, a transgender woman who was preoperative. To many, this is not a big deal, but to the military during the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era – it was a big deal. Barry’s roommate, Justin Fisher, began a campaign to get Barry kicked out of the military. But Barry was so evil, that he used a younger soldier as his weapon to destroy Barry. What if blockchains could be secured and time-stamped to Bitcoin? And how could something like that be achieved in a way that maintains the decentralized, transparent and permissionless nature of blockchains themselves? These are a couple of the big questions that led Justin Fisher and Maxwell Sanchez to the creation of VeriBlock. “The VeriBlock blockchain is itself secured to Bitcoin and acts as an efficiency and aggregation layer that allows other blockchains to secure themselves to Bitcoin in a cost-effective and easy-to-use manner,” says Sanchez. It relies upon a concept that Fisher and Sanchez refer to as “proof of proof,” which will not only allow exchanges, merchants and users to make informed decisions about whether or not to accept a payment, but will allow them to do so with the confidence of knowing that each transaction is secured with the full power of Bitcoin. In fact, altering a transaction on the VeriBlock platform would require a forking of Bitcoin itself. Fisher and Sanchez bring an impressive amount of insight and technical knowledge to the discussion. Tune in to hear the details, visit veriblock.org and check out VeriBlock's telegram channel.
