Send us a textA powerful alliance has emerged in the world of Black college athletics. The "HBCU For Us" association brings together the four major HBCU athletic conferences—CIAA, SIAC, MEAC, and SWAC—creating a unified front to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of collegiate sports. This groundbreaking collaboration couldn't come at a more critical moment, as the transfer portal and NIL era have fundamentally altered the power dynamics between student-athletes and institutions.Steven J. Gaither dives deep into what this alliance might mean practically for HBCU athletics, suggesting it could lead to more coordinated scheduling of events like media days and create a "brain trust" approach to prevent predatory business arrangements that have historically plagued Black college sports. "A lot of folks who are in charge at our conferences and our schools sometimes run into people who...see all these great opportunities and they see people who are desperate for money or desperate for exposure," Gaither explains, highlighting how this alliance might serve as a protective mechanism against exploitative deals. The conversation shifts to player loyalty in an era of unprecedented mobility, featuring an illuminating interview with Jackson State quarterback Jacoby Morgan. Despite having transfer options, Morgan chose to remain at JSU, stating: "I'm a loyalty guy... I love this city, I love Jackson, I love the team and everything they bring. I'm a hometown kid so I want to be a legend there." His perspective offers a refreshing counterpoint to the mercenary approach that has become increasingly common in college athletics. As the 2024 HBCU football season approaches—just three weeks away—the community continues engaging in passionate debates about program legacies and classifications. A viral social media post categorizing Division I HBCU football programs into tiers sparked intense discussion about what constitutes a "blue blood" program and whether historical achievements from decades ago should carry the same weight as recent success. The conversation reveals both the deep pride in HBCU football tradition and the recognition that program strength is constantly evolving in the modern era.Download the HBCU Game Day app to stay connected with all the latest news, scores, and updates throughout the upcoming football season.Support the show

One of the reasons I wanted to cover the murders of actor, Michael Boone, and hotel porter William Dalziel is that, like me, some of you will be surprised at when they happened. As it turns out, the crackdown on gay men using indecency laws meant gay men were arrested, and the signal to the homophobes was that it was hunting season. In 1990, the lives of lesbians and gays, not to mention trans and gender nonconforming people, were under assault. Section 28, a cynical bit of anti-gay legislation hung a shadow over the well-being of queer folks. In researching these cases, one of the sad realities is that there are men and women whose lives were brutally ended, and no one will ever know who killed them. By listening and sharing these stories, you are joining me and a growing group of people who know a little bit more than you did before, and you're sharing these stories, and for that, I am grateful.

Even when we see uncertainty and injustice all around us, can we navigate our life with grace and resilience?Daigan Gaither emphasizes that our suffering and confusion are not barriers to practice but the very ground of it.He reflects on how to stay grounded and compassionate during turbulent and overwhelming times, drawing from his personal experiences and Buddhist teachings. He reminds us that practice doesn't mean escaping chaos—it means being present with it. By noticing our feelings, turning toward discomfort, and showing up honestly, we can respond with more wisdom and care. Daigan encourages us to drop perfectionism and meet ourselves with kindness, because showing up—even imperfectly—is the practice. He offers practical and heartfelt suggestions for practicing in challenging times:Pause and breathe – Come back to your body and breath, especially when overwhelmed.Name what's happening – Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings without judgment.Stay connected – Practice in community and reach out to others for support.Lean into the precepts – Use Buddhist ethical guidelines as a compass, not a rulebook.Embrace imperfection – The world is messy, and so are we; we can still show up with love.Ultimately, Daigan's message is one of hope: he invites us to meet chaos not with avoidance or despair, but with curiosity, compassion, and presence. ______________Rev. Daigan Gaither (he/him) began Buddhist practice in 1995 in the Vipassana (Insight) tradition, then began studying Zen in 2003. He received Lay Ordination in 2006 where he was given the name Daigan or “Great Vow,” and received Priest Ordination in July 2011. Daigan speaks internationally on a variety of topics particularly around gender, sexuality, social justice, and their intersections with the Dharma. He also sits or has sat on a number of boards and committees that serve community needs and further social justice causes. Daigan has a BA in Philosophy and Religion from San Francisco State University, and an MA in Buddhist Studies (with a chaplaincy certificate and a certificate in Soto Zen Buddhism) from the Graduate Theological Union and the Institute of Buddhist Studies. Sales leadership is full of hidden pitfalls that can derail even the most experienced managers. In this episode, Kevin Gaither—former ZipRecruiter sales leader, CRO of Inside Sales Expert, and author of It Happened on the Sales Floor—pulls back the curtain on the most common mistakes sales managers make. He challenges the myth that you can be friends with your reps, shares the six must-have traits for every sales hire, and explains why most coaching efforts fall flat. If you're a CRO or frontline sales leader, this conversation will change how you think about hiring, coaching, and managing your team.Kevin's straight-shooting approach delivers hard-earned lessons from building and scaling high-growth sales teams. We cover why many first-time managers fail, how to identify coachable reps, and the key to developing a sales culture that breeds success. Whether you're struggling with underperforming reps, overwhelmed managers, or a lack of accountability, this episode offers actionable strategies to avoid costly leadership missteps and build a team that consistently wins.Top Takeaways:You Can't Be Friends with Your Sales Reps – Building personal friendships with your team creates favoritism risks, weakens accountability, and can backfire when tough decisions need to be made.Hire for Six Non-Negotiable Traits – Every great sales hire must have need for achievement, competitiveness, optimism, coachability, continual learning, and organizational skills—if they're missing even one, don't hire them.Coaching Is More Than Just Deal Reviews – Most managers only coach around pipeline and forecasting, but real coaching focuses on skill development and long-term rep growth.First-Time Managers Fail Without Proper Training – Many sales leaders assume they can manage just because they were top reps, but without structured training, they struggle to develop their teams effectively.A Strong Hiring Process Is the #1 Predictor of Sales Success – The best sales strategy in the world won't work if you put the wrong people in the seats—hiring is the most critical leadership skill.Reps Don't Change Just Because You Want Them To – Without consistent coaching, accountability, and reinforcement, reps will default to old habits, no matter how much you tell them to improve.Perception Is Reality in Sales Leadership – Even if you treat your team fairly, if others perceive favoritism or inconsistency, it will erode trust and team cohesion.Managers Need a Playbook, Not Just Experience – Experienced managers still need structure and frameworks to be effective; winging it leads to inconsistent coaching and missed opportunities for rep development.Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward. No Gospel artist has had more of a seismic impact on Christian music over the last 100 years than Bill Gaither. Along with Gloria, his wife of more than 62 years, the Gaithers have left an indelible mark, writing more than 700 songs, many of which have become staples of Sunday morning praise and worship across the world. With songs like “He Touched Me”, “Because He Lives”, and “The King is Coming”, just to name a few of the highly recognizable standards they have written and recorded, there is little doubt why this Gospel Music Hall of Famer was named Christian Songwriter of the Century by ASCAP more than 20 years ago. Now, as Gaither settles into his seventh decade in Christian music, he is launching a new television program on TBN that is based on an old, yet highly popular idea. It's called “Gaither Gospel Hour” and has just started airing on Saturday nights at 8pm, on TBN.Gaither joins us to talk about the songwriting process that has propelled him to write so many profound staples of Christian music and whether his approach is any different than it was when he started out. Listen as the venerable music legend shares about his new television series, "Gaither Gospel Hour" and what he sees for the future of Gaither Music.

Chris sees wine as a way to bring people together to share stories and get in touch with the land and culture. Todd's approach to chocolate focuses on traditional origins and fostering relationships with small farms. In Brian's conversations with both, we dive into how these everyday indulgences can connect us to people, places, history, and even ourselves.

“Everyone has a metaphysical theory, whether or not he or she is aware of it or even knows what metaphysics is. A person's metaphysical theory determines to a significant extent how that person experiences the world.”The thoughts and the images we hold in mind are creative; they shape divine substance and energy into manifestation. We exercise our imagination wisely by focusing on our heart's desires as if steering toward a compass point. We can use our imagination to help bring about success, healing, and the best outcomes. On this episode, Darrell and Ed broaden our understanding of metaphysics with guest Reverend Jim Gaither, author of “What Is Metaphysics?” . Today, during the second segment, Jim opens our minds to new inspiration with today's reading, “Renewed”. Join the Patreon Community: www.Patreon.com/funniestthing Reading by Joyce Kramer I OPEN THE DOOR OF MY MIND TO GREATER UNDERSTANDING, DEEPER INSIGHT, AND NEW INSPIRATION. Do you have an open mind? Or are you stuck in outdated mental and emotional patterns? Life moves onward and upward, and we must move with it. If we haven't changed our thoughts and feelings in the last year, we are making life unnecessarily difficult. Growth in understanding ourselves is essential to enjoying a more effective, Christ-like life, just as physical growth is necessary for a baby to mature into an adult. Keep an open mind. Be willing to consider and examine fresh concepts. Do things in a different way. Try something new each day. Willingness to learn will assure you of growth, because God can speak to you through your open mind. The Spirit of God will inspire you, guide you, and fill your life with good. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind. (Ephesians 4:23) Writing by Rev Jim Gaither: I use my imagination wisely and focus on success. I use the power of imagination to bring ideas into being and to visualize answered prayers. When an inspired idea comes to me that I would like to create in my life, I use my mind to imagine what it would look like, how it would feel to achieve it, and the steps I will take to bring it about. I infuse my images with color, sound, aroma, and even taste. I see myself having achieved my goal. The thoughts and the images I hold in mind are creative; they shape divine substance and energy into manifestation. I exercise my imagination wisely by focusing on my heart's desires as if steering toward a compass point. I use my imagination to help bring about success, healing, and the best outcomes.
This week, I'm thrilled to have Misti Gaither, a psychic medium and paranormal investigator, join us on the show! She shares her experiences from the worlds of true crime and the paranormal and her quest to connect the living with the dead. Here are some of things that we had discussed:Misty shared how she had psychic abilities since a young age, but was raised in a very religious household where these abilities were seen as "demonic"Misty believes everyone has some level of psychic ability, whether it's called "intuition" or something elseMisty sees a connection between true crime cases and the paranormal, believing psychic abilities could potentially help solve some unsolved crimesMisty sees herself as being on a "journey" to learn more about true crime and the paranormal, rather than claiming to be an expertMisty believes law enforcement should be more open-minded to using psychic mediums, but acknowledges the need for them to be vetted and reputableMisty sees her podcast "Quest" as a "journey" to learn more about true crime and the paranormal, rather than claiming to be an expert_____________________________________Misti's LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/mistimichelleatesQuest on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Quest504/featured_____________________________________Link to all things Not in a Huff Podcast: https://linktr.ee/notinahuffpodcastPlease follow/subscribe to the podcast to be the first to see new episodes when they come out each week. My guest today is Jeff Allen who has been a working comedian for five decades, and his work has been featured on America's Got Talent, Dry Bar Comedy, HBO, Comedy Central, and even on TBN and CBN. He can be heard regularly on SiriusXM's comedy channels, as well as Pandora and Spotify. His videos have surpassed 400 million views on Facebook, YouTube and other digital media. Many of you may have seen him perform at some of the Gaither's Praise Gatherings too. With his new book and his tour ARE WE THERE YET?, Jeff Allen drives home the humor of everyday family life, the ups and downs of marriage, the challenge of raising children, the bliss of the empty nest, and the joys of being a grandparent. Ladies and gentlemen, for years, one of the funniest men in America was crying on the inside, Jeff Allen was a comedian with the lead role in a tragedy. Jeff fell into substance abuse at an early age, and his problems didn't magically go away when he got married. In fact, with the arrival of two children, they intensified. The sense that his life was meaningless made his family life as dark and biting as his comedy. But in his darkest moment, an unlikely encounter with the gloomiest book of the Bible set him on the path to salvation. The line of Ecclesiastes, “Meaningless, meaningless, all in life is meaningless” - resonated with him. So he kept reading, and soon found that Jesus wasn't a religion, but He was Savior who loved him right where he was at. And many times that's at the bottom so the only direction you can look is up. If you have struggled to find meaning in your life, this book is for you. With his trademark humor and unflinching honesty, Jeff will point you to the only One who can answer the question, “Are we there yet?” So I end with one of the most famous prayers ever written. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. #comedy #faith #inspiration #newbook #comedytour #substanceabuse #marriage #lifelessons #humor #comedian
