In this episode, Alyshia meets with Aya Cash, the unapologetically bold actor and producer currently lighting up HBO Sunday nights in The Franchise. Aya's journey is packed with industry-defining roles: from her hilarious breakout in FX's You're the Worst, which earned her TCA and Critics Choice nominations, to powerful turns in Fosse/Verdon with Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams, The Girl From Plainville opposite Elle Fanning, and The First Lady with Michelle Pfeiffer. Aya talks theater beginnings, not fitting into Hollywood's beauty standard, and seeing herself as an underdog in Hollywood. She shares invaluable advice for aspiring actors, including why she chose not to memorize her lines for her Newsroom audition with Aaron Sorkin—a bold move that turned into a career-defining moment. Tune in for an inside look at Aya's path from romantic beginnings on the New York stage to unintentionally becoming "offer only." These are the unforgettable stories that landed Aya Cash right here. In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast host Mike DeAngelo gets to the occasional truth with Hulu's hit period comedy series, “The Great.” Created by Tony McNamara (“The Favourite,” “Cruella”), the show follows the sometimes true rise to power and subsequent rule of Catherine “The Great” (Elle Fanning) in a chaotic and debaucherous 18th century Russia. The show also stars Nicholas Hoult, Adam Godley, Phoebe Fox, Gwilym Lee, Douglas Hodge, and more. READ MORE: ‘The Great' Review: Hulu's Catherine The Great Series Gets Grim, Stays Good in Season 3 Joining Bingeworthy to discuss the show are stars Elle Fanning (“Super 8,” “The Girl From Plainville,” “The Beguiled”) and Nicholas Hoult (“Renfield,” “The Menu,” “X-Men: First Class”). During the chat, Hoult reflected on the blessing of being able to play Peter III, one of the most delightfully filthy and nuanced characters on television, for yet another season. She moves on to taste Brianna's Classic Buttermilk Ranch, which she likes but thinks it's very tangy and would recommend using it as a dip. TOURIST FALLS INTO MOUNT VESUVIUS: In continuing with her love of stupid tourist stories, Kathleen is amused reading an article about an American who had to be rescued on Mount Vesuvius near Naples after he apparently slipped into the Italian volcano's crater while trying to recover his fallen cellphone after attempting to take a selfie in a WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GAP?” Kathleen reads an article about the history of The Gap store, and the rise and fall of the iconic brand as their latest CEO steps down in an effort to reorganize and move towards profitability. We're BAACCKK! And we're bringing you an abandoned hospital that's overrun with ghosts, and a semi-controversial true crime story that's bound to start a conversation. Sarah starts the episode with the incredibly haunted Old Changi Hospital in Singapore, China. Build in 1935 this hospital soon found itself being used to harm people instead of treat them. Rumored to have housed POW's as well as the "notorious Kempeitai" (the Japanese military police, which also played the role of that of a secret police) a group that tortured and killed many people (including the POWs) imprisoned in the hospital. With a backstory like that, you KNOW its full of ghosts - and it is. Stephanie wraps up the episode with the true crime case that inspired the most recent Hulu drama "The Girl From Plainville". It's the tale of Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy III. You might remember this case because it was all over the media, because after Conrad took his life it came out that Michelle had been texting, messaging, and talking to Conrad about doing so. Some believe she did it maliciously and should be held accountable for his suicide - while others think this was a terrible story of two mentally unwell teenagers and an incredibly unfortunate situation. What do YOU think? Should Michelle take the blame for Conrad's death? Leave us a comment and let us know!
Today I dove in solo to all of the topics I'm consumed by at the moment. Kicking off, I dive into the most chilling true crime case I've ever heard of -- the disappearance of Kim Wall. Kim went missing with Denmark's wannabe Elon Musk, Peter Madsen -- in his submarine. This story is sad, horrifying and unbelievable. Secondly, I dive into my research on Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy's case and what is fact and fiction from the new Hulu show The Girl from Plainville. I also dive into Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham's wedding and the Erika Jayne and Garcelle drama. Have a great weekend everyone! :) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Six days after the death of her boyfriend Conrad Roy in 2014, Michelle Carter sent a text to her friend. “I just had it all planned out. Now I have to do something different, maybe something better, I just don't think that that's possible. He was my person you know?” she wrote. Except in Michelle and Conrad's reality, their relationship was so private neither of their families knew they were even an item. It was a relationship that had blossomed almost exclusively on text. Thousands of them. Sent over years. Michelle & Conrad were texting the night Conrad drove into a Kmart car park, alone, in Fairhaven, - an hour's drive from where Michelle lived in Plainville - and took his own life. In today's episode, Gemma is speaking with political theorist Dr. Mark Tunick, about the now infamous texting-suicide case of Michelle Carter & Conrad Roy III. After his suicide shocks his family, Conrad Roy's mother learns he'd been having a virtual relationship with a girl in another town. But investigators combing their text messages discover instead of stopping him, Michelle Carter may have instructed him to take his own life. Elle Fanning and Chloë Sevigny star in the Hulu docudrama “The Girl from Plainville.” The series captures the sadness of two teens who don't fit in, their path to tragedy, and the agony of the adults piecing together why it happened. Jordana is moving apartments today (again?) but Aleen and Sami are holding down the @ Betches fort. Sami starts off by sharing a Twitter thread (we know she loves her threads) about kids tuning into supernatural abilities—like ghost stuff. In other words, just a regular Thursday morning convo. After Aleen gets too freaked out, they dive into celeb news: Kourtney and Travis got married (sort of) and Erika Jayne has been named in her ex-husband's lawsuit (much to debrief). Then onto TV drama: they review last week's ep of The Dropout before sharing their thoughts on The Girl From Plainville. The episode wraps up with a quick fangirling of Amy Schumer— 'cause who doesn't love Amy.
