What happens when we trade case law for cancer care? You get one of the richest, most human conversations we've ever brewed. This week on Counsel Brew, we branch out beyond the courtroom and into the clinic with Dr. Richard Hall—a thoracic oncologist whose life's work is treating lung cancer and supporting patients through some of their toughest moments.A proud Texan and graduate of Texas A&M and UT Southwestern, Rick went on to train at the University of Virginia and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center before returning to UVA, where he not only treats patients but also trains the next generation of oncologists. He's earned teaching awards, led UVA's fellowship program, and advanced cutting-edge research in immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and combination treatments. But beyond the credentials lies a doctor who knows that medicine is about people first. In this conversation, Rick opens up about: ☕ The emotional reality of delivering difficult news and how empathy and communication are as vital as any treatment. ☕ The evolution of lung cancer care, from chemotherapy to immunotherapy to antibody-drug conjugates (a “guided missile” approach to attacking tumors). ☕ Why collaboration among medical teams is just as important as collaboration in business or law. ☕ His personal journey from med school to oncology and the moments that shaped his calling. And because no Counsel Brew is complete without actual brew, we lighten things up with Rick's adventures as a self-taught barista—how chasing the perfect shot of espresso demands scientific precision in measurements and pressure—his favorite lattes, and the joy of finding balance through coffee.
When the Symes family spotted a glowing orb following them home from a pub in Wales in 1975, they had no idea it was just the beginning of decades of UFO encounters that would span multiple generations. Whether the Symes family are just simply in the right place at the right time or whether their location plays a part in these multiple sightings remains open to debate. Although there isn't any evidence for it, perhaps the Symes have been targeted by the alleged extraterrestrial occupants of these seemingly alien vehicles. What is interesting, though, is that there are many sightings of these shiny or glowing spherical UFOs on record, both in the United Kingdom and around the world. This news has been marked with its first partnership in the region, with Citybus, a leading bus operator servicing over 1.1 million customers daily across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Following twelve months of rapid growth for the business, CitySwift - which was founded in 2016 by Brian O'Rourke and Alan Farrelly - will now be working in the APAC region with further global expansion set to be a key focus in 2025. Since inception, CitySwift has operated in its home territory of Ireland, as well as the UK and the US. Today we're diving into a critical issue that has shaken the pharmacy world. Recently, a pharmacy owner was sentenced for paying illegal kickbacks and engaging in a money laundering conspiracy. This case has significant implications for promotional compliance within the pharmacy industry, and we're here to explore them in detail. In a landmark case, the Department of Justice sentenced Richard Hall, a 53-year-old pharmacy owner from Fort Worth, to several years in prison. The charges? Hall paid illegal kickbacks to patient recruiters and physicians, leading to unnecessary prescriptions and defrauding federal healthcare programs. Court documents and trial evidence revealed that Hall, along with others, created and marketed expensive compounded medications. These medications, meant to be custom-tailored to individual patient needs, became the focal point of the fraud. Hall paid marketers to recruit doctors to write prescriptions for these costly compounded medications, offering "investment opportunities" that allowed the doctors to profit from the pharmacy operations. Furthermore, Hall engaged in a conspiracy to launder the unlawful proceeds of this scheme. The Anti-Kickback Statute is explicit – financial incentives should never influence healthcare decisions. Yet, Hall crossed this line, resulting in severe legal consequences. This case was not just about kickbacks; it also involved money laundering to conceal the origins of the illicit funds. Such actions undermine the integrity of the healthcare system and highlight the critical need for strict compliance with legal and ethical standards. This scandal emphasizes the importance of ensuring that: Every prescription dispensed is medically necessary and appropriately documented. As pharmacists and pharmacy marketers, it is our duty to prioritize patient care and uphold the highest ethical standards. The ramifications of failing to do so can be devastating, both legally and professionally. So, what steps can you take to avoid similar pitfalls? First, steer clear of any financial incentives that could be construed as kickbacks. Second, ensure that every prescription is justified by medical necessity. Third, closely monitor financial transactions to ensure they comply with all legal requirements.Support the Show.

Dr Michael Lange has been hosting "ask the dr" since April of 1993 on multiple radio stations coast to coast and live video streaming all over the world. Dr Michael Lange and Dr Richard Hall host of "ask the dr" this am on the subject "how to improve digestive health and improve overall health naturally and what 4 foods to never eat". Dr Lange goes over causes, symptoms and natural therapies for improving digestive health. He goes over many of his personal health hacks that most of the population including doctors are not aware of to help with digestive conditions. Both Dr Lange and Dr Hall discuss the Fortifeye Digestive Bundle that can be used to enhance digestion and reduce many of the symptoms of digestive problems. Dr Hall talks about the multiple digestive problems of the people that he sees in his free consultations. He talks about the importance of probiotics and enzymes for digestive problems. They also discuss how the Black Friday Fortifeye sale was the biggest sale and success Fortifeye Vitamins has ever had. Dr Richard Hall discusses the importance of good quality protein for all of us at any age and how Fortifeye is the top grass-fed whey protein on the market. He states, "we are equally proud of what does not go into our proteins as what does". Most proteins are filled with artificial flavors, sweeteners and dyes that can cause negative health problems and Fortifeye does not use any of this in their supplements. Dr Lange goes into details how to reduce the arsenic, phytic acid, lectins and other anti-nutrients and toxins in our typical foods. He goes over what four foods to avoid and what foods to eat more of. Dr Lange discusses the difference between ethyl ester (EE) omega 3 fish oil and rTG (re-esterified triglyceride) omega 3 fish oil with a caller. He recommends staying away from ethyl ester omega 3 fish oil since it is very unstable, doesn't absorb well and is very inefficient since it must pass through the liver to cleave off the ethanol backbone and replace a triglyceride back bone before it can absorb into the body. rTG form omega 3 fish oil absorbs much quicker without having to pass through the liver and is more natural. He also states new studies insinuate the ethyl ester form omega 3 fish oil may increase risk of atrial fibrillation and cause some gastric distress and nasty burp back. He recommends using Fortifeye Super omega or Fortifeye Super omega 3 Max since it is a product of Norway and is in the rTG omega 3 form. He also states you can use the Fortifeye ingredient profile as a template to find something similar in the market at a local health food store. Today's show was very educational and informative. Dr Michael Lange and Dr Richard Hall host todays show on what makes up a good protein. Dr Lange discusses a new fermented vegan protein that is as good as whey protein with a perfect PDCASS score of 1. He talks about the development of an all-vegan protein Fortifeye Vitamins has been testing using fermented pea, rice and or barley. They have been testing a variety of different forms of vegan protein that will be easily digestible, taste good, no chalky or grainy texture and be a complete protein. This new Fortifeye Vegan Super Protein will have a PDCASS score of 1 making it very similar to whey protein. Most vegan proteins are harsh on the digestive system due to the high amounts of lectins, phytic acid, gluten, fodmaps and other anti-nutrients that are in these types of vegan proteins. Fortifeye is working with a company that uses mushroom mycelia to ferment the pea and rice to make it much higher in amino acids and easier to digest. They are also working with an upcycled barley protein in their new vegan super protein and determining which form of vegan protein will work best. Dr Hall discusses the amount of time the team has spent in the lab doing taste and solubility testing for this new FOrtifeye Vegan Super Protein. Dr Hall does a discussion on how we can use nutritional support for sarcopenia and talks about the all new Fortifeye Fit Pro as having all of the ingredients to help with this muscle wasting condition. Fortifeye Fit Pro will hopefully be available for the Mr Olympia contest coming very soon. Whether the Symes family are just simply in the right place at the right time or whether their location plays a part in these multiple sightings remains open to debate. Although there isn't any evidence for it, perhaps the Symes have been targeted by the alleged extraterrestrial occupants of these seemingly alien vehicles. Dr Michael Lange and Dr Richard Hall host of "ask the dr" a live call-in talk show called "Ask the Dr" since April of 93 all over the world. Tune in each week while he discusses the latest in anti-aging, eye care and nutrition. Today Dr Lange discusses how a good whey protein is so much easier to break down and digest than many of the OTC whey proteins you can purchase at local store or over internet. Many of the whey proteins that cause bloating and digestive issues come from cows' milk that are raised in feed lots and fed GMO omega 6 grains. Dr Lange explains how your whey protein should be from grass fed cows and the whey is non denatured and the label states where the cows come from. If it doesn't say this on the label say away from it. Both Dr Lange and Dr Hall state that if it is a high quality non denatured grass-fed whey protein then you probably don't need additional enzymes added to make it easier to absorb, however as we age some of our digestive properties in our gut become less effective and adding enzymes, pineapple of apple cider vinegar may assist in the breakdown of the proteins and amino acids for easier absorption. Dr Hall state that Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate only has two ingredients: whey protein and sunflower lecithin nothing else. Some proteins have 20 different ingredients that act as preservatives, flow agents, artificial sweeteners and flavors etc. Dr Lange talks about how he lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks following the Lange Survival Diet and using Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate and Fortifeye Organic Blue Green Superfood as one meal each day. Many live calls direct the topic of conversation today. Both doctors discuss the Sheroo Classic Fitness Festival and how it was a big hit for the Fortifeye Performance Nutrition Line. They released the two prototypes of Fortifeye Fit Pro and Fortifeye Rejuvenate for the first time to the public and did some taste testing at the event.
