His 2003 team led the Big Sky Conference in total offense on its way to a title, and he was subsequently named the NCAA Division 1AA Offensive Coordinator of the Year by American Football Monthly.He was the head football coach of Ashland High School from 2005 - 2017, where he went 94-44 with the Grizzlies while winning four conference titles, appearing in the state quarterfinals six times, the state semifinals twice and the championship game once. Brandon Jefferson, who stands only 5 foot 9 inches tall, was named NCAA Division II National Player of the Year in 2014. He's now in his 8th professional season overseas and has become an All-Star caliber player in the top league in France. Malia Shoji is the lead assistant volleyball coach for the University of Utah, a Division I school in the PAC-12 conference. She's helped lead Utah to one of it's most successful stretches in school history, with multiple trips to the Sweet 16.Benjamin Kaufman is an assistant coach for Westminster College Men's Basketball, a division II school in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Mike Baughman (my Opa) was a high level athlete growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii. He went on to play wide receiver for Boston University, and then was invited to try out for the Detroit Lions. After his athletic career he became an English professor at Southern Oregon University. He’s authored eight books, including A River Seen Right, Boat, Growers Market and Money Sucks. He also wrote for Sports Illustrated, and you can find many of his articles here.He’s lived a rich life outside of work - he’s a renowned fly fisherman in Oregon, an Ultra Marathoner, and is still running and exercising at age 82. I’m very grateful for my relationship with him.
