The Missouri House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson City to investigate the causes and impacts of delays in issuing childcare payments by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). House Speaker Dean Plocher (R-Des Peres) says the issue is urgent, saying the delays in issuing childcare payments are having an impact on Missouri families and childcare providers. Speaker Plocher wants answers, saying the GOP-controlled Missouri House has made historic investments in public education. DESE Commissioner Karla Eslinger is expected to testify on Tuesday. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" to preview the hearing and discuss other issues. Mr. Faughn tells listeners that Commissoner Eslinger will face tough questions from lawmakers. He says Eslinger has "inherited a terrible mess" at DESE, saying the agency is struggling and can't cut the checks. Mr. Faughn tells listeners that the agency is dysfunctional, adding that people can't reach employees at DESE because some are only in the office one or two days a week. He predicts Commissioner Eslinger will get checks cut before Tuesday's hearing:

Abstract: The olfactory nerve, also known as cranial nerve I, is known to have exclusive ipsilateral projections to primary olfactory cortical structures. It is still unclear whether these projections also correspond to functional pathways of odor processing. In an olfactory functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study of twenty young healthy subjects with a normal sense of smell, we tested whether nostril specific stimulation with phenyl ethyl alcohol (PEA), a pure olfactory stimulant, asymmetrically activates primary or secondary olfactory-related brain structures such as primary olfactory cortex, entorhinal cortex, and orbitofrontal cortex. The results indicated that without a challenging olfactory task, passive (no sniffing) and active (with sniffing) nostril-specific PEA stimulation did not produce asymmetrical fMRI activation in olfactory cortical structures. FTGOTG S2, E12 |  I'm excited to share our second "Special Feature" episode with two widely recognized leaders in the Youth Sports industry...Heath Eslinger and Gordon MacLelland.  Both gentlemen present perspectives on developing relationships with parents and coaches, but from different geographic and cultural areas.Gordon MacLelland is the CEO of Working With Parents In Sport, a UK-based company that works with Sporting Organizations to help parents and coaches navigate the difficulties they face in today's environment.  Gordon is the author of three books: Two Hats - a book for parent coaches who are coaching or thinking of coaching their own children; Great Sports Parenting - a pocket guide for parents of children in sport; and Engage - a coaches' guide to building positive relationships with parents. You can learn more about Gordon and Working With Parents In Sport at...https://www.parentsinsport.co.uk/Heath Eslinger is the Director of Business Development for A Better Way Athletics, a US-based company in Cleveland, TN (just outside of Chattanooga).  Heath's experience as both a High School and Div-1 wrestling coach afforded him the opportunity to see the "problem areas" in sports culture from the inside-out.  Now, as both a leader and gifted speaker, he travels and shares his contagious message of A Better Way to engage, educate and train both parents and coaches.  A Better Way Athletics offers a sophisticated platform and multiple curriculums for both parents and coaches to help them evolve and positively impact the young people they support! You can learn more about Heath and A Better Way Athletics at...https://www.abetterwayathletics.com/While many individuals and organizations recognize the need for change, these gentlemen and their companies are leading the charge in changing the Youth Sports landscape.  Their perspectives are both unique and refreshing...and they provide a practical "way ahead" as we emerge from the pandemic and begin to reshape the future!Intro music "Next Level" used under license by Composer Rujay Torres.

Action Plan: https://jimharshawjr.com/ACTION Free Clarity Call: https://jimharshawjr.com/APPLY   Fear, Anxiety, Performance.  Heath Eslinger is a dynamic leader and communicator who has been changing lives for over two decades. His passion for individuals and organizations to simply evaluate their circumstances and do things “a better way” has become contagious. His experience as a successful Division I wrestling coach has given him a training ground to see what it really takes to get an organization to believe in a system, buy into a philosophy, and perform at a high level. This experience, coupled with a passionate ability to communicate, makes him a speaker that listeners love to hear.    In athletics specifically, Heath realized as a coach that many athletes, parents, coaches and organizations were missing out on the true joy of the journey. Society has become so consumed with an immediate outcome that we have lost sight of the life lessons our journey teaches. “A Better Way” was developed to help parents, coaches, athletes, teams, and organizations get the most out of their journey by focusing on developing intrinsic qualities that will last a lifetime and carry you through some of life’s most difficult times. And I know where you’re at. You’re working hard and qualified for what you do but you aren’t getting what you want. You have plans on getting to the C-suite or launching a business but ultimate success seems as far away today as ever. You’re in the right place because you can get there from here. And I can help.   Who I Am I’m a speaker, coach, and former Division I All-American wrestler that helps motivated former athletes to reach their full potential by getting clarity on what they really want and taking aggressive action to lead their ideal life not just despite their prior failures but because of them. I’m a husband and father of four. And I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’ve launched multiple successful businesses as well as the obligatory failed one. I’ve been the executive director of a non-profit and have raised millions of dollars. I’ve worked in sales. I’ve even been a Division I head coach. While I was born in a blue-collar home I have spent my life surrounded by Olympians, CEOs, and millionaires. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I’ve been lucky. I’ve learned the habits of successful people and guess what. You’re just like them. I know because I know your type. You’re programmed for hard work, which is a prerequisite for success, but you’ve never been shown how to use what you know to create the life you want with the tools you have. I will show you how.   Why You Are Here You've worked hard to achieve greatness. You’ve set goals and maybe even set records. You’ve definitely failed and you’ve at some point found yourself questioning if you were on the right track. You need to understand this: You are far more prepared to succeed than those who’ve not tried, competed, struggled, and overcome as you have. That’s the value of your education as someone who aims high. You are prepared to be as successful as your wildest dreams will allow. Here I will teach you, with the help of brilliant minds that have been shaped by failure, struggle, and adversity, to be who you want to be. I sense that you want this because you have read this far. 0:00 This episodes begins with a spontaneous little sound design clip I made for the intro to THIS, episode 15, after a SIX month hiatus. An old Chinese man once told me I was lazy and that I should do ten pushups everyday. I have done zero pushups today. BUT! I have an excuse... When you fall down, let go. Don't hang on too tight. Don't wake surf the way I did, with a fully extended arm, grasping like a threatened chimp even after that glorious twenty-two seconds gliding along the lip of a man-made wave on your first time wake surfing. Don't do it like that. Give yourself some slack, and when you fall down, let go. Don't hold on too tightly. 17:33 I randomly sing you a love song that's not really finished yet because I felt like it. But not until after I finish jibber jabbin about cannabis laws and my sober November experiment.  21:22 The conversation with Melissa begins. We catch up after a little over a year since our last chat. She talks about her first tour and where she's at after 2.5 years hitting the stages. She recounts some good advice given to her by some of the greats, like Kirk Fox and Joey Diaz. Bruce McQuain from Blackfive joined us once again for Someone You Should Know, our weekly tribute to the troops. Bruce spent 28 years in the U.S. Army and he is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He brings a perspective and understanding to these stories that we could never match. This week Bruce told us about Second Lt. Nicholas Eslinger, " "As I was pulling security, I saw out of the corner of my eye in the back left corner of the open lot a hand come over the wall with some sort of a projectile," he said. Based on recent attacks, Eslinger knew it was a grenade. "The grenade landed, I’d say six to eight feet to my right front," Eslinger said. "I was on a knee at the time, and it landed and started to roll into the middle of our formation towards the far wall where our soldiers were positioned." Eslinger has thought about that moment several times and he remembers his only thought was that if he didn’t do anything, the grenade was going to hit his troops. By the time the grenade hit the ground, Eslinger was already moving. "As it hit and continued to roll, I dove right on my right side, and the grenade rolled into me kind of simultaneously as I landed. It was pinned in between, kind of, my right torso and the ground," he said. Once he was on top of the grenade, he braced for it to go off. "There was no preparation," he said. "It was complete adrenaline and focus on covering that thing so that if it went off, it wasn’t going to hit my RTO or my medic or my SAW gunner that was right around me." But after a split second, the grenade had still not gone off — much to Eslinger’s relief. "My right hand was already off my weapon, reaching for the grenade," he said. "I quickly grabbed it and from kind of just laying on my side there kind of just did a side throw towards the wall it came from." Eslinger had just enough time to get the grenade out of his hand and yell "grenade!" The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Bruce does an incredible job with the series every week. The Pundit Review Radio Podcast RSS feed can be found here. What is Pundit Review Radio?
