Jude d 16-19 “Smells like an Apostate” IV. The Predicted apostacy has arrived. (16-19) A. Character traits of the apostate. (16) 1 John 4:4,5 NKJV 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. James 2:1-4 NKJV My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? B. Scripture is given to us by the apostles through the Holy Spirit to be ready when we see apostacy. (17,18) Acts 20:29-31 NKJV 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. 1 Timothy 4:1,2 NKJV 4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 2 Peter 3:1-7 NKJV 3 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. Colossians 3:1-6 NKJV If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, C. We must be aware of egotistic, spiritually dead dividers. (19) 1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. John 3:4,5 NKJV 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
III. Judgement comes to the false prophets. (12-15) A. false teacher is all about themselves and offers nothing to their followers. (12) Jude 12a ASV 12These are they who are hidden rocks in your love-feasts when they feast with you, shepherds that without fear feed themselves; Show picture…… Matthew 7:15-20 NKJV 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. B. Prophecy without the word is a reservation for darkness. (13) C. Apostacy will be met with judgement at the return of Jesus. (14) 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 NKJV 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Luke 13:22-26 NKJV 22 And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23 Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,' and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,' 26 then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' 27 But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' Hebrews 4:12 NKJV 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Matthew 10:34-34 NKJV 34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; 36 and ‘a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. Genesis 11:1-5 NKJV 11 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. 3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
Jude b The Apostate Jude:8-11 II. The Characteristics of the apostates and liberal influences on the church. (8-11) A. The false prophet is a person that holds themselves to the highest regards. (8) Romans 13:1-5 NKJV 13 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake.[i] B. The agents sent to do the work of God must be submissive to God. (9) C. Apostates do not know God and their lives are a reflection of their beliefs. (10) Matthew 23:15 NKJV 15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.[ii] D. The apostate follows their own desire, is greedy, and is lead to destruction. (11) [i] The New King James Version. (1982). (Ro 13:1–5). Nashville: Thomas Nelson. [ii] The New King James Version. Jude 1a 1-7 Warning of Wolves. A. Introduction and subject. (1-4) Matthew 13:54-58 NKJV 54 When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” 57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Matthew 24:24,25 NKJV 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. Galatians 2:4 NKJV 4 And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage), 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 NKJV 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. Matthew 7:15-19 NKJV 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. B. Judgement has always been reserved for those that fall away from the faith. (5-7) Genesis 6:1-4 NKJV 6 Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. 3 And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. 2 Peter 2:4,5 NKJV 4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; James 3:1 NKJV 3 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. Matthew 12:31 NKJV 31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Mark 10:21 NKJV 21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

2 John I Hear You Knocking But You Cant Come in. 2 JOHN 1-13 A. My standing in the body of Christ is given to me because if believe in the Truth of Jesus Christ. (1-3) B. My actions are a reflection of my belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. (4-6) C. I must be aware of wolves in sheep's clothing. (7-11) D. The body of Christ is unified when it is in fellowship. (12-13)
1 John 5d Jesus Above All Else. Chapter 5:18-21 IV. Jesus above all else. (18-21) Genesis 3:15 NKJV 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”[i] Luke 10:25-28 NKJV 25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and ‘your neighbor as yourself.' ” for A. New birth and belief in Christ, moves believers to avoid sin. (18) Romans 7:15-25 NKJV 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.[ii] 1 John 5:18 NIV We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 1 John 5:18 Youngs Literal Translation (YLT) 18 We have known that every one who hath been begotten of God doth not sin, but he who was begotten of God doth keep himself, and the evil one doth not touch him;[iii] [i] The New King James Version. 1 John 5c Prayer Changes Things Chapter 5:14-17 1 Thessalonians 5:14-22 NKJV 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.[i] [i] The New King James Version. (1982). (1 Th 5:14–22). Nashville: Thomas Nelson. III. The effectiveness of prayer. A. We can be confident in God granting our requests when we pray according to His will. (14,15) John 9:31 NKJV 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.[i] Job 34:28 NKJV 28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him; For He hears the cry of the afflicted.[ii] Psalm 31:22 NKJV 22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You.[iii] Proverbs 15:29 NKJV 29 The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.[iv] Luke 11:9,10 NKJV 9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.[v] [i] The New King James Version. 1 John 5a Belief Brings Love, Obedience, and Victory. Chapter 5:1-5 I. Belief Brings Love, Obedience, and Victory. A. Belief is the result of new birth, and with belief comes love and fellowship. 1. Believing that Jesus is the only Begotten Son of God is our first pillar of faith. John 3:5-8 NKJV 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 2. Loving one another is the result of belief in Jesus through obedience. B. A family relationship brings together the love of God and the Love for His children. (2,3) 1. Loving God, and His children, is how we carry out His commandments. 2. Love is always practical and active. C. Being born of God brings victory over fleshly desires. (4a) D. Victory over the world is achieved only through faith in God. (4b,5) Ephesians 6:12 NKJV 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Romans 8:31-39 NKJV 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 10:9-11 NKJV 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV 11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
1 John 4d Love removes all fear. Chapter 4:17-19 IV. Gods love is the driving force for confidence in the believer. (17-19) A. We are exempt from judgement because Jesus has made us righteous. (17) Romans 5:19 NKJV 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. 1 John 2:28 NKJV 28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 1 John 2:1 NKJV 2 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Romans 1:18-23 NKJV 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. B. The love that spells confidence banishes fear. (18) Hebrews 5:7 NKJV 7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 2 Peter 3:9 NKJV 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. C. God's love is primary, our love is in response. (19)
1 John 4c Spirit Driven. Chapter 4:12-16 Ephesians 1:13,14 NKJV 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Romans 8:14-16 NKJV 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, III. The Holy Spirit is made evident by my testimony of Jesus and my love for others. A. God Himself is invisible but His Character is revealed in His people. (12) 1 Timothy 1:17 NKJV 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:16 NKJV 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen. John 4:24 NKJV 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Exodus 33:20 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 1. God is love. 1 John 4:8,9 NKJV 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 2. God loves us. 1 John 4:10,11 NKJV 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 3. God's love is made complete in us when we love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. B. Our proof of belief comes by the Holy Spirit. (13) Romans 5:5 NKJV 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. C. The Holy Spirit confirms what the apostles witnessed. (14) Romans 1:2-6 NKJV 2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. 5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, John 15:26,27 NKJV 26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning. Acts 5:32 NKJV 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” D. The Holy Spirit indwells in us when we confess Jesus as Lord. (15) E. Love and belief are both products of the Holy Spirit. (16)
1 John 4b Love is Everything! Chapter 4:7-11 NKJV II. Love is a choice we make because love is a choice that God made towards us. (7-11) Genesis 3:21 NKJV 21 Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them. Romans 5:8-10 NKJV 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. John 15:13 NKJV 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. A. Love is the greatest attribute of Godly living. (7) 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NKJV 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. B. To not love others is to be apart from God. (8) C. God's love for me is cemented in Jesus. (9) Hebrews 2:7 NKJV 7 You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. D. Jesus Paid the Price for my sins. (10) 2 Corinthians 5:20,21 NKJV 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 1 Peter 2:24,25 NKJV 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Romans 5:18 NKJV 18 Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. E. Jesus paid the price in love so that I can show His love to others. (11) l John 3:16 NKJV 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 4a Who am I following? Chapter 4:1-6 Proverbs 15:21 NKJV 21 Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment, But a man of understanding walks uprightly. 1 Peter 5:8 NKJV 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. I. I will use discernment when making decisions in all areas of my life. (1-6) A. I must be aware of what is true and what is false as I am being tempted and influenced. (1) B. Godly advice should only be taken from those that have a true belief in Jesus. (2) C. The antichrist is present and denies godly objectives and morality. (3) D. The indwelling Holy Spirit gives me confidence over the enemy. (4) E. When we chose God our worldview will be godly, the world will do the opposite. (5,6)

1 John3c Love lets go. Chapter 3:10-15 III. My salvation is marked by my love or hate for my brethren. (10-15) A. My actions reveal the nature of my allegiance. (10a) Joshua 24:15 NKJV 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” John 8:44 NKJV 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. B. I am identified in Christ by my righteous character. (10b) Isaiah 14:13-15 NKJV 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. C. My love for others is the core of my Christian faith. (11) D. My actions are what give authenticity to my claims. (12) Genesis 4:3-5 NKJV 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. E. I will not allow the worlds hatred to separate me from God. (13) John 15:18,19 NKJV 18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Ephesians 5:15-18 NKJV 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, F. My love for others is proof of my salvation. (14) G. Murder is not just an act it is a mindset that must be eradicated. (15) Matthew 5:21-24 NKJV 21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
1 John 3b Carried away Chapter 3:4-9 Mark 4:16-17 NKJV 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they stumble. II. Sin, its removal and my duty to move away from sin. (4-9) A. Continual sin is proof of an unregenerate life. (4) B. Jesus is the scapegoat for our sins, that we may sin no more. (5) 2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Leviticus 16:21,22 NKJV 21 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. 22 The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. C. Continual sin must be exercised from my life. (6) D. The life of a purified believer works righteousness. (7) E. All sin is in opposition to God, Jesus manifestation is what brings us back to God. (8) Hebrews 7:26-28 NKJV 26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever. F. The indwelling Holy Spirit is our guide and alarm to Christian living. (9) Romans 7:21-25 NKJV 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
1 John 2g Chapter 2:24-29 5 Features of a Believer. IV. 5 features of a believer. A. Living an obedient life based on the gospel of Christ. (24) John 15:10,11 NKJV 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. B. Living with the hope of eternal life. (25) John 6:53-58 NKJV 53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” John 10:27,27 NKJV 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 1 John 5:11-13 NKJV 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. C. Living with the truth of God above all else. (26,27) Ephesians 4:14 NKJV 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— Titus 1:2 NKJV 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, D. Living a life of perseverance in anticipation of Jesus Return. (28) E. Living a Christlike life through faith in Jesus Christ. (29) John 3:3 NKJV 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Hebrews 4:15,16 NKJV 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 John 2f Chapter 2:18-23 Who is the Antichrist? 1 John 2:12-14 NKJV 12 I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. 13 I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one. V. The antichrist is anybody that opposes Jesus as the Son of God. (18-23) A. The last hour is marked by the denial and defiance of God. The antichrist is marked by the arrival of the apostate church. (19) 1. The visible church- the visible group that participates in local worship and fellowship. These are those people that have an outwardly showing of membership inside the church. 2. The invisible church- those among the visible church that have the inward or spiritual dedication to the true church of Christ. 1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Titus 1:11 KJV 11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 2 Peter 2:1,2 NKJV 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. C. True Christians are Spirit filled. (20) Acts 17:11 NKJV 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. D. The truth of God is undeniable, Christians do not deny it in any way. (21) E. Anybody that denies Jesus is antichrist and does not truly know God. (22,23) 1 John 2:22 RSV 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. John 14:6,7 NKJV 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
