Mark 15:42-16:8   42 When evening had already come, since it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself also waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Now Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.45 And after learning this from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb which had been cut out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where He was laid. 16:1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, they *came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb for us?” 4 And looking up, they *noticed that the stone had been rolled away; for it was extremely large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 But he *said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. Mark 15:1-41   Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders, scribes, and the entire Council immediately held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led Him away, and turned Him over to Pilate.2 Pilate questioned Him: “So You are the King of the Jews?” And He answered him, “It is as you say.” 3 And the chief priests startedaccusing Him of many things. 4 But Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You offer nothing in answer? See how many charges they are bringing against You!” 5 But Jesus said nothing further in answer, so Pilate was amazed. 6 Now at the Passover Feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested. 7 And the one named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder in the revolt. 8 And the crowd went up and began asking Pilate to do as he had been accustomed to do for them. 9 Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”10 For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. 12 And responding again, Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” 13 They shouted back, “Crucify Him!” 14 But Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!” 15 Intent on satisfying the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified. 16 Now the soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they *called together the whole Roman cohort.17 And they *dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; 18 and they began saluting Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they repeatedly beat His head with a reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.20 And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him. 21 And they *compelled a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to carry His cross. 22 Then they *brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 And they tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it. 24 And they *crucified Him, and *divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man would take. 25 Now it was the third hour when they crucified Him. 26 The inscription of the charge against Him read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 27 And they *crucified two rebels with Him, one on His right and one on His left. 29 Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30 save Yourself by coming down from the cross!” 31 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, “He saved others; He cannot save Himself! 32 Let thisChrist, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him. 33 When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabaktanei?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 35 And when some of the bystanders heard Him, they began saying, “Look! Proper 16 First Psalm: Psalms 146–147 Psalms 146–147 (Listen) Put Not Your Trust in Princes 146   Praise the LORD!  Praise the LORD, O my soul!2   I will praise the LORD as long as I live;    I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 3   Put not your trust in princes,    in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.4   When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;    on that very day his plans perish. 5   Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,    whose hope is in the LORD his God,6   who made heaven and earth,    the sea, and all that is in them,  who keeps faith forever;7     who executes justice for the oppressed,    who gives food to the hungry.   The LORD sets the prisoners free;8     the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.  The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down;    the LORD loves the righteous.9   The LORD watches over the sojourners;    he upholds the widow and the fatherless,    but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10   The LORD will reign forever,    your God, O Zion, to all generations.  Praise the LORD! Save yourselves!    You will be like a juniper in the desert!7   For, because you trusted in your works and your treasures,    you also shall be taken;  and Chemosh shall go into exile    with his priests and his officials.8   The destroyer shall come upon every city,    and no city shall escape;  the valley shall perish,    and the plain shall be destroyed,    as the LORD has spoken. 9   “Give wings to Moab,    for she would fly away;  her cities shall become a desolation,    with no inhabitant in them. 10 “Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD with slackness, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed. 11   “Moab has been at ease from his youth    and has settled on his dregs;  he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel,    nor has he gone into exile;  so his taste remains in him,    and his scent is not changed. 12 “Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I shall send to him pourers who will pour him, and empty his vessels and break his3 jars in pieces. 13 Then Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence. 14   “How do you say, ‘We are heroes    and mighty men of war'?15   The destroyer of Moab and his cities has come up,    and the choicest of his young men have gone down to slaughter,    declares the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.16   The calamity of Moab is near at hand,    and his affliction hastens swiftly.17   Grieve for him, all you who are around him,    and all who know his name;  say, ‘How the mighty scepter is broken,    the glorious staff.' 18   “Come down from your glory,    and sit on the parched ground,    O inhabitant of Dibon!  For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you;    he has destroyed your strongholds.19   Stand by the way and watch,    O inhabitant of Aroer!  Ask him who flees and her who escapes;    say, ‘What has happened?'20   Moab is put to shame, for it is broken;    wail and cry!  Tell it beside the Arnon,    that Moab is laid waste. 21 “Judgment has come upon the tableland, upon Holon, and Jahzah, and Mephaath, 22 and Dibon, and Nebo, and Beth-diblathaim, 23 and Kiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and Beth-meon, 24 and Kerioth, and Bozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. 25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, declares the LORD. 26 “Make him drunk, because he magnified himself against the LORD, so that Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he too shall be held in derision. 27 Was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him you wagged your head? 28   “Leave the cities, and dwell in the rock,    O inhabitants of Moab!  Be like the dove that nests    in the sides of the mouth of a gorge.29   We have heard of the pride of Moab—    he is very proud—  of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance,    and the haughtiness of his heart.30   I know his insolence, declares the LORD;    his boasts are false,    his deeds are false.31   Therefore I wail for Moab;    I cry out for all Moab;    for the men of Kir-hareseth I mourn.32   More than for Jazer I weep for you,    O vine of Sibmah!  Your branches passed over the sea,    reached to the Sea of Jazer;  on your summer fruits and your grapes    the destroyer has fallen.33   Gladness and joy have been taken away    from the fruitful land of Moab;  I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;    no one treads them with shouts of joy;    the shouting is not the shout of joy. 34 “From the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate. 35 And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the LORD, him who offers sacrifice in the high place and makes offerings to his god. 36 Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of Kir-hareseth. Therefore the riches they gained have perished. 37 “For every head is shaved and every beard cut off. On all the hands are gashes, and around the waist is sackcloth. 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel for which no one cares, declares the LORD. 39 How it is broken! How they wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab has become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.” 40   For thus says the LORD:  “Behold, one shall fly swiftly like an eagle    and spread his wings against Moab;41   the cities shall be taken    and the strongholds seized.  The heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day    like the heart of a woman in her birth pains;42   Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people,    because he magnified himself against the LORD.43   Terror, pit, and snare    are before you, O inhabitant of Moab!      declares the LORD.44   He who flees from the terror    shall fall into the pit,  and he who climbs out of the pit    shall be caught in the snare.  For I will bring these things upon Moab,    the year of their punishment,      declares the LORD. 45   “In the shadow of Heshbon    fugitives stop without strength,  for fire came out from Heshbon,    flame from the house of Sihon;  it has destroyed the forehead of Moab,    the crown of the sons of tumult.46   Woe to you, O Moab!    The people of Chemosh are undone,  for your sons have been taken captive,    and your daughters into captivity.47   Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab    in the latter days, declares the LORD.”  Thus far is the judgment on Moab. T. France For me the ‘abruptness' of the ending consists not primarily in the stylistic form of its final sentence, but in the ‘unfinished' nature of its contents. They meant to kill me, and they violated my concubine, and she is dead. 6 So I took hold of my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel, for they have committed abomination and outrage in Israel. 7 Behold, you people of Israel, all of you, give your advice and counsel here.” 8 And all the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, and none of us will return to his house. 9 But now this is what we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot, 10 and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand, to bring provisions for the people, that when they come they may repay Gibeah of Benjamin for all the outrage that they have committed in Israel.” 11 So all the men of Israel gathered against the city, united as one man. 12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What evil is this that has taken place among you? 13 Now therefore give up the men, the worthless fellows in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and purge evil from Israel.” But the Benjaminites would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the people of Israel. 14 Then the people of Benjamin came together out of the cities to Gibeah to go out to battle against the people of Israel. 15 And the people of Benjamin mustered out of their cities on that day 26,000 men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who mustered 700 chosen men. 16 Among all these were 700 chosen men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair and not miss. 17 And the men of Israel, apart from Benjamin, mustered 400,000 men who drew the sword; all these were men of war. 18 The people of Israel arose and went up to Bethel and inquired of God, “Who shall go up first for us to fight against the people of Benjamin?” And the LORD said, “Judah shall go up first.” 19 Then the people of Israel rose in the morning and encamped against Gibeah. 20 And the men of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin, and the men of Israel drew up the battle line against them at Gibeah. 21 The people of Benjamin came out of Gibeah and destroyed on that day 22,000 men of the Israelites. 22 But the people, the men of Israel, took courage, and again formed the battle line in the same place where they had formed it on the first day. 23 And the people of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until the evening. And they inquired of the LORD, “Shall we again draw near to fight against our brothers, the people of Benjamin?” And the LORD said, “Go up against them.” 24 So the people of Israel came near against the people of Benjamin the second day. 25 And Benjamin went against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed 18,000 men of the people of Israel. All these were men who drew the sword. 26 Then all the people of Israel, the whole army, went up and came to Bethel and wept. They sat there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 27 And the people of Israel inquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, 28 and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, ministered before it in those days), saying, “Shall we go out once more to battle against our brothers, the people of Benjamin, or shall we cease?” And the LORD said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hand.” 29 So Israel set men in ambush around Gibeah. 30 And the people of Israel went up against the people of Benjamin on the third day and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times. 31 And the people of Benjamin went out against the people and were drawn away from the city. And as at other times they began to strike and kill some of the people in the highways, one of which goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, and in the open country, about thirty men of Israel. 32 And the people of Benjamin said, “They are routed before us, as at the first.” But the people of Israel said, “Let us flee and draw them away from the city to the highways.” 33 And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar, and the men of Israel who were in ambush rushed out of their place from Maareh-geba.1 34 And there came against Gibeah 10,000 chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was hard, but the Benjaminites did not know that disaster was close upon them. 35 And the LORD defeated Benjamin before Israel, and the people of Israel destroyed 25,100 men of Benjamin that day. All these were men who drew the sword. 36 So the people of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. The men of Israel gave ground to Benjamin, because they trusted the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah. 37 Then the men in ambush hurried and rushed against Gibeah; the men in ambush moved out and struck all the city with the edge of the sword. 38 Now the appointed signal between the men of Israel and the men in the main ambush was that when they made a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city 39 the men of Israel should turn in battle. Now Benjamin had begun to strike and kill about thirty men of Israel. They said, “Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle.” 40 But when the signal began to rise out of the city in a column of smoke, the Benjaminites looked behind them, and behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to heaven. 41 Then the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed, for they saw that disaster was close upon them. 42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness, but the battle overtook them. And those who came out of the cities were destroying them in their midst. 43 Surrounding the Benjaminites, they pursued them and trod them down from Nohah2 as far as opposite Gibeah on the east. 44 Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell, all of them men of valor. 45 And they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. Five thousand men of them were cut down in the highways. And they were pursued hard to Gidom, and 2,000 men of them were struck down. 46 So all who fell that day of Benjamin were 25,000 men who drew the sword, all of them men of valor. 47 But 600 men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon and remained at the rock of Rimmon four months. 48 And the men of Israel turned back against the people of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, the city, men and beasts and all that they found. And all the towns that they found they set on fire. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities. 7 It may be that their plea for mercy will come before the LORD, and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the LORD has pronounced against this people.” 8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the prophet ordered him about reading from the scroll the words of the LORD in the LORD's house. 9 In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the LORD. 10 Then, in the hearing of all the people, Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper court, at the entry of the New Gate of the LORD's house. 11 When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the scroll, 12 he went down to the king's house, into the secretary's chamber, and all the officials were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials. 13 And Micaiah told them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the scroll in the hearing of the people. 14 Then all the officials sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, to say to Baruch, “Take in your hand the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them. 15 And they said to him, “Sit down and read it.” So Baruch read it to them. 16 When they heard all the words, they turned one to another in fear. And they said to Baruch, “We must report all these words to the king.” 17 Then they asked Baruch, “Tell us, please, how did you write all these words? Was it at his dictation?” 18 Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me, while I wrote them with ink on the scroll.” 19 Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.” 20 So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, and they reported all the words to the king. 21 Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary. And Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king. 22 It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house, and there was a fire burning in the fire pot before him. 23 As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the fire pot. 24 Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words was afraid, nor did they tear their garments. 25 Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. 26 And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet, but the LORD hid them. 27 Now after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiah's dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: 28 “Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. 29 And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Thus says the LORD, You have burned this scroll, saying, “Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?” 30 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. 31 And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the people of Judah all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, but they would not hear.'” 32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them. Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles 7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts—9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics.1 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. The Death of John the Baptist 14 King Herod heard of it, for Jesus'2 name had become known. Some3 said, “John the Baptist4 has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 15 But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.” 17 For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.” 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly. 21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. 22 For when Herodias's daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.” 23 And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” 24 And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” 25 And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26 And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. 27 And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John's5 head. He went and beheaded him in the prison 28 and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand 30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. 35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii6 worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men. Jesus Walks on the Water 45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night7 he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret 53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him 55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well. Totals of People and Gifts 66 The whole assembly together was 42,360, 67 besides their male and female servants, of whom there were 7,337. And they had 245 singers, male and female. 68 Their horses were 736, their mules 245,1 69 their camels 435, and their donkeys 6,720. 70 Now some of the heads of fathers' houses gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury 1,000 darics2 of gold, 50 basins, 30 priests' garments and 500 minas3 of silver.4 71 And some of the heads of fathers' houses gave into the treasury of the work 20,000 darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver. 72 And what the rest of the people gave was 20,000 darics of gold, 2,000 minas of silver, and 67 priests' garments. 73 So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel, lived in their towns. And when the seventh month had come, the people of Israel were in their towns. Jesus Is Buried 42 And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died.10 And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. 45 And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph. 46 And Joseph11 bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. They kept quiet all night, saying, “Let us wait till the light of the morning; then we will kill him.” 3 But Samson lay till midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that is in front of Hebron. 4 After this he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 5 And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Seduce him, and see where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to humble him. And we will each give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” 6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and how you might be bound, that one could subdue you.” 7 Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she bound him with them. 9 Now she had men lying in ambush in an inner chamber. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he snapped the bowstrings, as a thread of flax snaps when it touches the fire. So the secret of his strength was not known. 10 Then Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have mocked me and told me lies. Please tell me how you might be bound.” 11 And he said to her, “If they bind me with new ropes that have not been used, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 12 So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And the men lying in ambush were in an inner chamber. But he snapped the ropes off his arms like a thread. 13 Then Delilah said to Samson, “Until now you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me how you might be bound.” And he said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web and fasten it tight with the pin, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 14 So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his head and wove them into the web.1 And she made them tight with the pin and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep and pulled away the pin, the loom, and the web. 15 And she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and you have not told me where your great strength lies.” 16 And when she pressed him hard with her words day after day, and urged him, his soul was vexed to death. 17 And he told her all his heart, and said to her, “A razor has never come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If my head is shaved, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 18 When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up again, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands. 19 She made him sleep on her knees. And she called a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. 20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him. 21 And the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles. And he ground at the mill in the prison. 22 But the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaved. The Death of Samson 23 Now the lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice, and they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand.” 24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god. For they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hand, the ravager of our country, who has killed many of us.”2 25 And when their hearts were merry, they said, “Call Samson, that he may entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he entertained them. They made him stand between the pillars. 26 And Samson said to the young man who held him by the hand, “Let me feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean against them.” 27 Now the house was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there, and on the roof there were about 3,000 men and women, who looked on while Samson entertained. 28 Then Samson called to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.” 29 And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. 30 And Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life. 31 Then his brothers and all his family came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. And being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. 10 But Paul went down and bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.” 11 And when Paul had gone up and had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed. 12 And they took the youth away alive, and were not a little comforted. 13 But going ahead to the ship, we set sail for Assos, intending to take Paul aboard there, for so he had arranged, intending himself to go by land. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene. 15 And sailing from there we came the following day opposite Chios; the next day we touched at Samos; and2 the day after that we went to Miletus. 16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia, for he was hastening to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost. Paul Speaks to the Ephesian Elders 17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him. 18 And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia, 19 serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews; 20 how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house, 21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.3 22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by4 the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. 24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, 27 for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God,5 which he obtained with his own blood.6 29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears. 32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. 34 You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me. 35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” 36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him, 38 being sorrowful most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. Jesus Is Mocked 16 And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters),2 and they called together the whole battalion.3 17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. The Crucifixion 21 And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. 22 And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull). 23 And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. 25 And it was the third hour4 when they crucified him. 26 And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.” 27 And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.5 29 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31 So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him. The Death of Jesus 33 And when the sixth hour6 had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.7 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” 37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he8 breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son9 of God!” 40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41 When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem. Jesus Is Buried 42 And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died.10 And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. 45 And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph. 46 And Joseph11 bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. Old Testament: 2 Chronicles 33–34 2 Chronicles 33–34 (Listen) Manasseh Reigns in Judah 33 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. 3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had broken down, and he erected altars to the Baals, and made Asheroth, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.” 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6 And he burned his sons as an offering in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. 7 And the carved image of the idol that he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever, 8 and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land that I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the rules given through Moses.” 9 Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel. Manasseh's Repentance 10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention. 11 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon. 12 And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. 13 He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God. 14 Afterward he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it around Ophel, and raised it to a very great height. He also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah. 15 And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city. 16 He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered on it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving, and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel. 17 Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 19 And his prayer, and how God was moved by his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers.1 20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house, and Amon his son reigned in his place. Amon's Reign and Death 21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. 22 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them. 23 And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more. 24 And his servants conspired against him and put him to death in his house. 25 But the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against King Amon. And the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place. Josiah Reigns in Judah 34 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father, and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the carved and the metal images. 4 And they chopped down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and he cut down the incense altars that stood above them. And he broke in pieces the Asherim and the carved and the metal images, and he made dust of them and scattered it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. 5 He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. 6 And in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins2 all around, 7 he broke down the altars and beat the Asherim and the images into powder and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem. The Book of the Law Found 8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had cleansed the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God. 9 They came to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had collected from Manasseh and Ephraim and from all the remnant of Israel and from all Judah and Benjamin and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 And they gave it to the workmen who were working in the house of the LORD. And the workmen who were working in the house of the LORD gave it for repairing and restoring the house. 11 They gave it to the carpenters and the builders to buy quarried stone, and timber for binders and beams for the buildings that the kings of Judah had let go to ruin. 12 And the men did the work faithfully. Over them were set Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to have oversight. The Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music, 13 were over the burden-bearers and directed all who did work in every kind of service, and some of the Levites were scribes and officials and gatekeepers. 14 While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD given through3 Moses. 15 Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan. 16 Shaphan brought the book to the king, and further reported to the king, “All that was committed to your servants they are doing. 17 They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have given it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen.” 18 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it before the king. 19 And when the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes. 20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, 21 “Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book.” Huldah Prophesies Disaster 22 So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent4 went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect. 23 And she said to them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me, 24 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book that was read before the king of Judah. 25 Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out on this place and will not be quenched. 26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words that you have heard, 27 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the LORD. 28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.'” And they brought back word to the king. 29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD. 31 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book. 32 Then he made all who were present in Jerusalem and in Benjamin join in it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers. 33 And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the territory that belonged to the people of Israel and made all who were present in Israel serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn away from following the LORD, the God of their fathers. Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand 30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And about the fourth watch of the night7 he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret 53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him 55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. They held in their left hands the torches, and in their right hands the trumpets to blow. The Death That Opened Paradise Luke 23:26–43 Main Point of the Sermon: Jesus's death on the cross reopened paradise for all who come to him. Introduction Never in the history of the world has there been an event as significant as the one we just read about. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It's one of the simplest summations of the Gospel. We've heard it so many times that we can grow callous to the thought. But this week I was freshly brought to my knees in worship as I rediscovered its significance for me and you today. What does it mean for us right now? What does it say about how God feels about us today? This is the question I want to try to answer. There are three sections to this text: 1) the road of grief 2) the crucifixion 3) and the promise of paradise. I want to show you that this road of grief and the crucifixion opened paradise for all who come to Jesus. But before we dive in, let's quickly be reminded of the context. Context Last week we saw Jesus tried before the Roman court and declared “innocent” before all. Yet because of the persistence of the Jewish leaders and the weak leadership of Pilate, he was punished and then sentenced to death. We know from the other Gospel accounts and from history that Pilate's punishment was a flogging by Roman soldiers, which meant he got 39 lashes. This was a gruesome punishment. The Romans used a whip called the “cat of nine tails” in which were tied pieces of stone that would bruise and tenderize the flesh, along with sharp pieces of bone and metal that would sink deeply into the flesh and cause it to tear as they pulled the whip back to strike again. It was enough to kill some of its victims. After taking such a beating, Jesus stood before his accusers exhausted and bloody, wearing a crown of thorns, as they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Picture the scene for a moment. Pause. Finally, Pilate gave Jesus over to their desires. The Way of Grief 26 And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. Jesus traveled the Via Dolorosa, “the way of grief”. John's Gospel says that Jesus was led out, bearing his own cross (19:17), so it seems that he carried it until he could no longer. The Roman cross is estimated to have weighed somewhere between 165-300lbs depending on whether he carried the entire cross or just the cross-beam. This heavy and rough plank of wood was laid upon Jesus's fresh wounds as he made the half-mile trek out to Golgotha, where he would be crucified. Many speculate that Jesus, being weak from his flogging and blood loss, fell several times as he made the journey. Luke's account may be proof of that. He was emotionally and physically exhausted and with his body failing, the soldiers grabbed Simon of Cyrene and forced him to carry Jesus's cross. The details mentioned are significant for several reasons. Simon of Cyrene is probably mentioned by name because he would later become one of Jesus‘s followers known by many in the church. Mark 15:21 mentions that he was likely the father of two of Jesus's disciples. Luke wrote a historical account. This is proof that these things were seen and experienced by real people that at the time could have been interviewed to see if these things were so. Further, this seemingly coincidental encounter turned out to be a sign of great significance. Simon carried the cross following behind Jesus, reminding every Christian of the cross we are called to daily bear as we follow Jesus. This traumatic interruption to Simon's day was just the beginning of the rest of his life. Jesus told his disciples that following him would not be easy. It would cost them their lives (Lk 9:23). And it did. 27 And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him. This was a great scene as many people followed behind Jesus mourning. A typical crucifixion might stir the people of Jerusalem to stop for a moment to notice the grievous moment, but it usually didn't draw this kind of crowd. Jesus, however, was the most loved and hated man in all of Israel. The text says that in the crowd were many women who were mourning and lamenting for Jesus. We don't know exactly who these women were but we learn from other Gospel accounts that contrary to most of his twelve disciples who had deserted him, some women, who were Jesus's closest disciples, family, and friends were near Jesus at the foot of the cross: Mary Magdalene,Mary the mother of James and Joses, the mother of the Sons of Zebedee and Jesus's mother among others (Mt 27:55-56; Jn 19:25). It's safe to assume that these were some of the women Luke is mentioning. But notice what Jesus says to them in response to their lamenting, 28 “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' 30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,' and to the hills, ‘Cover us.' 31 For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” Only a few of Jesus's words are recorded up to the point of his death, but what he says is very important. Here, Jesus is alluding to Zechariah 12:10: “when they [the inhabitants of Jerusalem] look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him…” But Jesus turns the lament away from himself towards the people. He says, weep for yourselves and your children, not me. Why? Because of the days that are coming. Jesus prophesied in Luke 19:43 of the destruction coming on Jerusalem (c.f. 21:6, 22-24): 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you.” Here again, he remarks of the horrors of that day. In that day, the barren will be the one's called blessed because they don't have to watch their children suffer. It will be so brutal that the people will long for the mountains and hills crush them and put them out of their misery. In verse 31, Jesus essentially says, if you think this moment is horrific, “when the wood is green,” that is when an innocent man is allowed to be condemned to death, consider how great the evil will be “when the wood is dry,” that is, when God allows wicked Rome's wrath to be released on Jerusalem in full force. Why should they weep for themselves? Because God's wrath would soon be poured out on them because of their rejection of his son, Jesus. Tim Keller helpfully explains: Jesus is saying…”You see me going to my death, and you don't understand that you, too, are in the same boat. You don't understand that you, too, as it were, are dead men walking. You don't understand judgment hangs over you. You don't understand someday everyone will stand before the face of the throne, and if you're not ready on that day, the mountains and the hills will fall on you.”This is Jesus talking about judgment day, looking at them and saying, “Until you weep for yourselves, you can't weep for me right. Until you understand what's wrong with you, until you understand your own danger, until you understand you're under sentence and you're under condemnation and that every person is, you don't understand what I'm really about or what I'm doing. Until you weep for yourselves, you can't weep for me properly.” Even as Jesus is bleeding out, he is grieved for his people who will die in their sins. He had come for their rescue, but so many would reject God's day of salvation. Let's keep going. Verse 32 tells us another important detail: 32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. With this detail, Luke brings to mind Isaiah 53:12, which tells of the Suffering Servant, “he was numbered with the transgressors.” Luke wants us to see that Jesus's death is fulfillment of the Scriptures and God's plan of salvation. We'll see more evidence of this as we look now at the crucifixion. The Crucifixion 33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull [or Golgatha, a hill shaped like a skull]there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. 34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” There they crucified him. Such a simple phrase does not do justice to the horrors of this death. Crucifixion was invented by the Persians around 300 B.C. and perfected by the Romans around the time of Christ. It is quite possibly the most painful death ever invented by man and is where we get our word excruciating from. It killed its victims through suffocation, loss of body fluids, and multiple organ failure. One scientific article explains in more detail how crucifixion killed someone: Someone nailed to a crucifix with their arms stretched out on either side could expect to live for no more than 24 hours. Seven-inch nails would be driven through the wrists so that the bones there could support the body's weight. The nail would sever the median nerve, which not only caused immense pain but would have paralyzed the victim's hands. The feet were nailed to the upright part of the crucifix, so that the knees were bent at around 45 degrees. To speed death, executioners would often break the legs of their victims to give no chance of using their thigh muscles as support. It was probably unnecessary, as their strength would not have lasted more than a few minutes even if they were unharmed. Once the legs gave out, the weight would be transferred to the arms, gradually dragging the shoulders from their sockets. The elbows and wrists would follow a few minutes later; by now, the arms would be six or seven inches longer. The victim would have no choice but to bear his weight on his chest. He would immediately have trouble breathing as the weight caused the rib cage to lift up and force him into an almost perpetual state of inhalation. Suffocation would usually follow, but the relief of death could also arrive in other ways. "The resultant lack of oxygen in the blood would cause damage to tissues and blood vessels, allowing fluid to diffuse out of the blood into tissues, including the lungs and the sac around the heart," says Ward. This would make the lungs stiffer and make breathing even more difficult, and the pressure around the heart would impair its pumping.[1] Our innocent Lord endured all this, and as he is suffering, he looks around him and says, “curse you wicked men!” No… He says, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” What kind of man can be mocked and beaten and killed unjustly and yet respond with blessing and prayer for his enemies? Again, this is fulfillment of Isaiah 53:12 “He makes intercession for the transgressors. When I read this plea for forgiveness this week again for the hundredth time, I stopped in utter amazement, and could not help but shout, “Who is this man? What kind of man does that? There is truly no one like Jesus.” Again, what is your instinct when others mock you or injure you. Are we not quick to retaliate and curse them? But Jesus responds with grace immeasurable. He calls out to God the Father in this moment, pleading on his murderers behalf, “forgive them.” Don't hold this against them. They don't understand what they are doing. In pleading for their forgiveness, he is asking God to release them from the penalty they deserve for these sins. These were not empty prayers he was praying. Jesus actually had authority to provide forgiveness by virtue of his sacrifice. His sacrifice made forgiveness possible. God could forgive his enemies and not require death because Jesus was dying in the place of anyone who would repent and cling to him. Were told that “they cast lots to divide his garments.” (v. 34). This is another fulfillment of a famous Messianic Scripture, Psalm 22. Verse 18 says, “They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” They had stripped him to the point that he was either naked or barely clothed, and they played dice to see who would get his clothes, since he was about to die. Jesus hung their naked, suffering, and struggling to breathe, and the mocking continued. 35 And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers [that is the Jewish religious leaders] scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine 37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38 There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” Both the Jewish leaders and the Roman soldiers mocked Jesus by challenging his power and authority as King, which was the charge posted above him for all to see. Their words are strikingly similar to Satan's, who challenged him at the beginning of his ministry, “If you are the Son of God, then make bread... throw yourself down” One by one they mocked him, using various Messianic titles. Verse 31 says that they offered him sour wine, which was not an act of compassion but just another slap in the face. One Bible teacher says that it may have been offered on a sponge used for personal bathroom sanitation. Either way, quenching his thirst with this cheap drink was a form of mockery and would have only prolonged his suffering. They didn't know it, as we do now, but Jesus could have hit abort at any minute. He could have hit abort when Satan offered him a way out at his temptation. He could have hit abort when many tried to take his life in his short three year ministry. He could have hit abort when he was in the garden of Gethsemane. He had the authority to come down off the cross with legions of Angels at his back and slay all of his enemies. But he didn't. He stayed. He gave his life, like he says in John 10:18, “No one takes [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.” Jesus gave his life willingly in obedience to his Father. This was all accomplishing a divine purpose bigger than anyone could understand. They thought that his death was proof that he was not the Messiah, but it was only proving that he was. Because he stayed on the cross, he could offer salvation to all who would come to him, which is what we are about to see in the promise of paradise. The Promise of Paradise 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” Even the criminals hanging next to him begin mocking Jesus and his identity. “Save yourself, and us too while you're at it!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” These verses are unique to Luke, and I'm so glad that he recorded this event. The second criminal rebukes the first, recognizing that they are about to meet their Maker, and that they were justly receiving the death sentence. On the contrary, “this man has done nothing wrong.” We don't know what this criminal knew about Jesus, but one thing became clear to the man as he watched Jesus suffer alongside him – this man was innocent. But then the criminal turns his attention to Jesus. 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Rather than mocking his ability to save, the criminal pleas for salvation. This request is both a confession of faith that Jesus is the King who will soon enter his kingdom and a plea for mercy before his judge. This moment is a final snapshot of the sad reality that Luke has unfolded: the first will be last and last will be first. It is the poor, the sinful – like the Prodigal Son ­– who recognize their need for mercy. But it is the religious who, like the Older Brother in the Prodigal story, proudly reject Jesus. 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” What is paradise? Our Jesus says he was going there. He was about to enter his kingdom. Contrary to what some theologians have claimed, Jesus was not headed to hell for three days, but through death, he would soon enter his glory before rising again bodily three days later. This word paradise is used in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament, to translate the Hebrew word for garden. It's referencing Heaven, the restored garden of Eden, where the righteous dwell with God. Jesus tells the dying criminal, “truly, today” you will be with me there. You can be confident that I will rescue you and bring you into paradise. In saying “today” you will be saved, Jesus was making a pronouncement as the judge of the living and the dead of the man's salvation. The crowds had put Jesus on trial and condemned him to death, but even as he breathes some of his last breaths Jesus shows us that he has the keys of paradise, he has authority to save and welcome repentant sinners into heaven through faith in him. Even while Jesus was dying a gruesome death, he was paving the way to heaven. Through his death he was inaugurating a new period of salvation.[2] This is why Jesus stayed on the cross! It was for this moment that he had come. So that anyone who hopes in him like this criminal could be confident that Jesus would welcome them into paradise. Hebrews 12:2 says, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus could have hit abort, but he endured because of the joy he would experience through all that it accomplished. Namely, needy sinners would be rescued and brought into his eternal kingdom. Jesus endured the cross with this picture in mind. He had a picture of himself seated on the throne next to the father, with each and every one of us, once clothed in rags of shame, transformed into his holy bride, clothed in robes of white and standing by his side. This is Good News! This is our Jesus! What kind of man weeps over others as he goes to his death? What kind of man says, “Father, forgive them,” to his enemies? What kind of king invites a wicked and guilty man into paradise? All made possible by his death! Who is this man? He is our king. He is matchless. And he is the perfect image of our God. Oh friends, if you want to know what God is like, if you want to know what he feels towards you right now, look at Jesus hanging on the cross. I know, we cannot comprehend why God would allow suffering in this world. We cannot comprehend why evil is done to us and to those we love. But how can we question our God's love and compassion when he steps into our suffering like this? The sin that wreaks havoc on the world, and in our souls, he bore on the cross. All of our sickness, our sorrows, all of our wounds, our pain, what has been done against us, and what we have done to others, he took it on himself. He absorbed it. Every sin, past and present, so that he could welcome us into paradise. How can we question our God‘s love, and if he has good intentions for us? How can we ever wonder if he cares? How could we ever wonder if he knows what ouor suffering is like? My desire today is that all of us here today would put our faith in this Jesus, who alone has the keys of paradise. I want you to confess again, or for the first time, that Jesus is your king and Lord. And I want you to be confident today, that if you do, you will surely be with Jesus in paradise when you die or when he comes again. How can a holy God welcome this wicked criminal into heaven? How can a holy God welcome you and I into heaven? It's certainly not because of a list of good you've done that outweighs the bad. No, it was simple faith in this Jesus, just like it was for the criminal. It's because of God's great love and mercy. Our Jesus willingly took our place, carrying every single sin to calvary on the road of grief. It was nailed to the cross and carried away to the grave forever. The power of sin and death is broken, so that God can declare you righteous in Christ and welcome you into his eternal paradise. Just remember, Jesus is not dead. Just as he promised, Jesus rose three days later, and was exalted to the right hand of God, proving that he has the power to do what he says. It was all according to the plan laid out in this book. A very good morning to you! It is Monday morning, the 9th of May 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.If we go straight to Matthew 27 and I am reading from verse 55:“And many women who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, were there looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.”And then we go straight to John 19 and I am reading from verse 26:“When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.”We must never ever take our mothers for granted. We have just celebrated Mother's Day... Never forget that Father God chose a woman to nurture, grow up, teach and to protect His only Son Jesus, when He came down from Heaven to Earth, in the form of a defenceless baby. He could have come amongst us as a mighty warrior, just as He will do the second time He comes, which could be any moment now - I can't wait!You know, I would give a million dollars to be able to sit down and have a cup of tea with my mom, that old Scottish lassie. Oh, I really am looking forward to seeing her in Heaven. I want to say to the young men and women, don't waste valuable opportunities to be close to your mom. She won't be with you forever. Give her a phone call, tell her you love her because she is the one who is responsible for bringing you up. John Wesley the great revivalist said that his mother, Susannah, taught him more about God than all the great theologians of his time. Listen to mom. Remember, she has been there before and she will give you good, godly advice.Jesus bless you and have a lovely day!Goodbye.

Gospel Reading: Mark 15:43-47; 16:1-8 At that time, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the body to Joseph. And he bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." Having been to Israel many times, leading tours, I have a much clearer vision of what a crucifixion was really like, and how horrendous it must have been to have watched anyone dying on a cross. We have tended to romanticize the cross a bit, with our jewelry and pictures of a cross on a hill far away, but actually the place of crucifixion was the most horrible place in Jerusalem. It would have been by a busy roadway so everyone could see and mock and be terrified by a crucifixion. It was meant to be a deterrent to crime and rebellion, to cause anyone who thought they might challenge the rule of Rome to think twice, because they would have to endure this horrible death. Knowing how awful a crucifixion was, it is amazing to read in Matthew 27:55-56 that “Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Moses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.”  In Mark 15:40-41 we read: “Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.” Luke tells us that “A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him” (Luke 23:27). And John tells us “Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene” (John 19:25). By my count, there are seven women who are identified in the four gospels, but we know there were many others as well. It's interesting to me that the women are named, and yet there are no named men at the cross. Certainly, there were men there, but how many were the friends and disciples of Jesus Christ?  We only know for sure that John was there, because Jesus refers to him in John 19, as he instructs him to care for his mother. Where were the other disciples? And why were all these women there at this ugly scene? It was not a place for a woman; if it was your close relative, you might have been there, but typically women did not go to such a horrible place. Yet there were all these women at the cross of Jesus. These women had gathered there to mourn and to wail the crucifixion of their Savior, Jesus Christ. They were there because they loved Jesus. They had been delivered from their sins and their pasts by Jesus, and they were determined to stay with him until the end, as ugly as it was. Can you even imagine what it meant for these women to stay there throughout the whole crucifixion? Mary Magdalene was there. We know that Jesus had delivered her from seven demons. There have been some scurrilous writings and suggestions that Jesus had a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene. That is a lie and totally unsubstantiated by Scripture or history. But for sure, this woman had deep feelings for Jesus because he had delivered her from her past. And it was an awful past. Can you even imagine being possessed by seven demons? What could be worse than to be indwelled by seven demons from hell? No doubt she had been abused and suffered great harm from these demons for many years. No doubt she was full of guilt and gloom and despair, fearing she would live all her days possessed by these demons. And then she met Jesus. In Mark 16 we read that Jesus had driven out those demons. However he did that, it had to be dramatic, perhaps painful, but no doubt the best day of her life. She was set free from her past, her guilt, her shame. And because Jesus is risen from the dead, he is able to do the same for you today. It may not be demons you are dealing with, but whatever it is in your past that haunts you, Jesus is a qualified Savior because he is risen from the dead, and he can deliver you, too. We are told that Mary, his mother, was at the cross. No doubt as she stood there,

The sense of urgency really spoke to me that's why I'm sending it to you maybe this will be an encouragement for the whole body and many will be helped from it." We are Out of Time? Samantha S. - 3/5/21 (David's notes in red) I had a dream last night. We lived in a big house in a neighborhood with maybe 20 houses on a big hill. We had our whole family, but no one else in the house. (The house on a hill could represent Zion which is a house on a hill and the sanctified people of God.) From each window we could see down into different parts of different cities. (These are the ones that aren't a part of Zion and will not have the supernatural protection and provision that the Bride will enjoy.) I was looking down from one angle and I could see men walking through parking lots in dark suits with sunglasses on, shooting people who were walking by one by one. (This reminds me of the “Men in Black”. According to Wikipedia: In popular culture and UFO conspiracy theories, men in black (MIB) are supposed men dressed in black suits who claim to be quasi-government agents, who harass, threaten, or sometimes even assassinate...  witnesses to keep them quiet about what they have seen. The term is also frequently used to describe mysterious men working for unknown organizations, as well as various branches of government allegedly tasked with protecting secrets or performing other strange activities. The term is generic, used for any unusual, threatening, or strangely behaved individual... The "MIB" supposedly appeared throughout different moments in history.)  On another side I could see people running through the streets and men were standing with knifes waiting to stab them as they walked by. (These could represent the factious in the Church who lay traps and ambush people and stab them in the back like Esau who betrayed Jacob. Obe 1:8-18  Shall I not in that day, saith Jehovah, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? 9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter. 10 For the violence done to thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. 11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them. 12 But look not thou on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster, and rejoice not over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither speak proudly in the day of distress.  13 Enter not into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, look not thou on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither lay ye hands on their substance in the day of their calamity. 14 And stand thou not in the crossway, to cut off those of his that escape; and deliver not up those of his that remain in the day of distress. 15 For the day of Jehovah is near upon all the nations: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy dealing shall return upon thine own head. 16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; yea, they shall drink, and swallow down, and shall be as though they had not been. 17 But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall burn among them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining to the house of Esau; for Jehovah hath spoken it.) None of them could see us, only we could see them. (The Bride, represented by Mt. Zion, will be hidden in the cleft of the Rock, Jesus, and in the secret place of the Most High.)  Then a “friend” showed up with a group of men to come “check on us”. They wanted us to go with them, offering protection. We had food, water and electricity. We didn't need a place to go, but we felt like we did need the protection. (This is the big lie and the trap by the devil and the government for us to trade our freedoms for safety and security. Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” 1Th 5:2-6  For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief: 5 for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness; 6 so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.) They started packing up all of our food and water to take to the new location and I instantly felt sick to my stomach. (Could this represent not only food shortages but also relocation camps for social dissidents?) I looked at Justin and said, “Are we sure we're making the right decision? How do we know this is safe?” The men made me feel uncomfortable and I was scared to take my children with them.  They were pushing hard for us to go but our “friend” was not the leader of the group. There would be an occasional car or maybe a couple of people walking in our neighborhood and I feared that if we left, robbers would break in and take over our home because there weren't many who still had electricity and they wanted it. (There will be riots and looting of all the have's by the have not's.) I felt like we would be safer in our home, but I knew people would come looking for food and water and they would take everything from us. No where felt totally safe and I was so scared for my kids. (We will need to have faith and trust in the Lord for the days to come. There is only safety in sanctification, faith and in His will.) The men kept telling us we had to make a decision quickly, and we were all out of time. When the dream ended we still had not left the house and the people were standing there asking us to make a decision if we were going to stay or go. (It sounds like that during the coming collapse of the food supply lines by the DS, and the planned bringing down of the grid by the Alliance to switch over to Tesla, the DS will take the opportunity to try and depopulate the people. I believe the Lord has shown they will do this using the next plague. The Alliance has said to stay in our homes as they fight with the DS. The Red Dragon Cast Down Marie Kelton - 4/7/21 (David's notes in red) While I was driving to work I had an open vision of a red Chinese dragon in the sky that flew past my car. Then, all of a sudden, it turned around and flew in front of me, but it was no longer a red dragon but a black dragon.  I heard, “The prince of the power of the air.”. (Eph. 2:1-3 And you did he make alive, when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins, 2 wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; 3 among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:)   So I bound it and after I bound the dragon it fell to the earth. It was really angry. (Agree with me Saints. We bind and cast down the Dragon and all of his factious emissaries in State and Church in Jesus name. Before the Dragon of Satan in Babylon is cast down the nations make an agreement to do this. Cyrus Trump under the authority given the Saints is leading the world to cast down the Dragon of DS Babylon.) This made me think of that scripture in Revelation about how satan is angry because he knows he has a short time. (Rev 12:12  Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe for the earth and for the sea: because the devil is gone down unto you, having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time.) A little while later, while I was having my lunch break, I looked out the window that I was sitting by and saw the black dragon again flying. I saw him fall from the sky again and when he landed he let out of large fiery breath and I knew he was angry. Then I saw two warrior angels in sky above the black dragon after he fell. Then I heard, "I beheld satan falling from heaven like lightning." Luk 10:18  And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. Red Dragon is Cast Down but Bride is Safe Marie Kelton - 4/3/22 (David's notes in red) As I was driving home from work at night the enemy was attacking my mind a little bit, but I was rebuking it. Then the lord gave me an open vision as I was driving of a black T-Rex running towards my car. (Representing satan the Dragon of Revelation 12, Bel who was the god of Babylon and the D.S. god is satan. Babylon is at this moment warring against the people of God.) It hit my car but didn't damage it. (My car represents my body or vehicle that houses my spiritual man).  Then, I looked out the side window and I saw the black T-Rex running next to my car with his head down, and his eye staring at me as I was driving. (The D.S. has their eye on the elect of God to gather information of us and to persecute us; eventually disenfranchising Christians from participating in the Beast system of buying and selling.) Then I saw two huge angels one in front of the T-Rex and the other behind it. The T- Rex had it's mouth open like it was going to attack the angel that was in the front of it, but the angel grabbed its jaws and pushed it back really hard like a football player going against the opposing team.  The angel behind the T-Rex grabbed its tail, and slung it behind my car as I was driving. Then I heard the Lord say to me, "Ask the angels to help you when satan is attacking your mind." Then the vision ended. (The Dragon will fail to take down the Man-child and Bride and will seek to destroy the woman church but they will seek shelter under the Man-child ministries teachings as Rev 12 shows. All of this is a test to see who is righteous, for the righteous will live by faith. He will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.) The Woman and the T-Rex Amber Arney- 12/8/21 (David's notes in red) I (Amber, representing the Bride) dreamed that there was a woman who was supposedly this great warrior and she was in a waiting room. I never physically saw her in the dream. (This warrior woman may very well represent the body of conservative people warring against the D.S. Dragon.) I wanted to talk to her in my bedroom so I decided to call her bluff and invite her into my house. (The Bride wanted to bring the woman into the rest because they know not the ways of God or His method of warfare.) I said something to her like, “If you're so brave, then you'll have no trouble coming into my house.” (I don't know why this seemed like a challenging or fearful thing for her.) (This warring people are very reluctant to enter into close relationship with true Christians like the Bride.) To get to my room she would have to walk through my house and all the people who were in it. (Many of these are New Age people and are offended with Christians.) After I issued her the invitation, I entered my house and left the front door open for her. There were many people in my house and they all seemed busy but working in peace and diligence.  As I walked past the people, there was a stir of excitement. It was as if they knew she was there, even though no one saw her. (We would all love to see them come into our house because they are one of the vessels that God is using to bring the Bride into that peace.) A policeman came to talk to me. He was guarding a T-Rex merged with an Alien creature. (According to the Smithsonian “Tyrannosaurus” is Greek for “tyrant lizard,” and “rex” means “king” in Latin. So, Tyrannosaurus rex was “King of the Tyrant Lizards.” The Alien creature was the monster from the movie Aliens. They are both fearsome predators.) (The 7 headed 10 horned dragon body is the lost nations in whom is an Alien that we call satan. Rev 12:9  And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.  This Alien Dragon seeks to destroy both the Man-child and the woman and is resisted by those who believe in law and order, represented by the policeman who call themselves the “White Hats.") The woman and the T-Rex creature were mortal enemies and there was a fear that they might attack each other and tear the house apart. (There is a war between the Alliance and the D.S. dragon and it is apparent that this could turn into a worse war at any moment. After the Man-child reformers are anointed in the first seal of Rev 6:2, the second seal of Rev 6:3-4 peace will be taken from the earth. Rev 6:3-4  And when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come.  4  And another horse came forth, a red horse: and to him that sat thereon it was given to take peace from the earth, and that they should slay one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.  This young policeman told me, “There is a lot of fear.” (Meaning there was a lot of fear among his fellow officers). (The Dragon has fearsome weapons of pestilence, sword, and famine just as Babylon used to conquer the apostate people of God.) He let me know that despite the fear they would continue to do their job. He continued, “When we say to each other, “Wish you were here, we mean it.” (This saying conveyed how much they loved each other and missed each other when they were separate.) (There is a brotherhood between these White Hats.) As I asked if there was anything that I could do help with the fear, I noticed that he was in pain and grasping his shoulder which was bleeding from a horrible wound. The wound looked like a cut or a tear and it was really hurting him. (It is apparent that the Alliance militaries are being wounded by the D.S. Dragon in the underground tunnel wars to save the children.) Before I could finish speaking, the wound on his shoulder began to heal and the look on his face changed from pain to relief and joy. (This is clearly an indication for us to pray for the White Hat Alliance. Stop and pray!) When the wound was almost healed it looked clean and small like a zipper because I laid my hand on his shoulder and prayed for his healing. New Plague Defeated For and By the Saints Claire Pienaar - 10/6/20 (David's notes in red) I dreamed I was in a rondawel-type setting – an African round clay house with a thatched grass roof; a round dwelling with open windows (no glass). It was large and there were many rooms that went off into various directions within the house. There was lush, green vegetation all around and the smell of meat being BBQ'd. (The Saints, meaning sanctified ones, who keep covenant by sacrifice of their flesh that are a aroma to God.)  It was night time. There were many saints in there - Joe Brits was one of them. It looked like an old restaurant called “Tribes” that I used to work at as a hostess when I was a student. (All the nations or Gentiles who are called are together by faith and belong together.  Romans 1:5-6 through whom we received grace and apostleship, unto obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake among whom are ye also, called to be Jesus Christ's).  I went over to the front door, and saw a really tiny little snake slither in. It looked more like a tapeworm it was so small but I over-reacted. (This represents the overreaction to what Covid 19 is. It is the vaccine that is killing people.)      I screamed and said “Get that snake out of here!”. (Since this plague has no rights in the sanctified house of God.)  I said this not out of fear, just out of indignation that it would even try to come into our space. Just then, a HUGE snake appeared and slithered behind the little snake – it looked like a Mozambique Python. It swallowed up the little wormy-snake. (This plague is the one we have warned of, to the President and our broadcast community. No one will worry about Covid 19 when this plague comes.) It turned and looked at me and opened his mouth wide and bared his fangs and said, “You're next”. I was pretty scared then! I turned to see who would help me, and I saw an old friend from primary school. His name is Duran, which means “firm or enduring”. (He represents firm faith in the promises, in this case for health, that endures to see it fulfilled. Mat 24:13  But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. Jas 1:12  Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.   1Pe 2:24  who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.  Exo 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  Psa 91:10  There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.  Zec 14:12  And this shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite all the peoples that have warred against Jerusalem (the Bride): their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.)  He walked over to the snake and distracted it by throwing something outside the house. (The cleansing of the Church makes it powerful and gives it our rights of immunity. Pro 10:2  Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; But righteousness delivereth from death.  1Jn 1:7-9  but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.  8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.).  The snake turned to see what was thrown out. (The spirit of infirmity and sickness has authority when sin is in the house. He was checking to see what authority he lost.) As it was turned, Duran picked up a small vaccine and thrust the shiny metal needle into the snake's neck, at the back (The “vaccine” for the plague is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Like the book by David Eells, "God's Vaccine”. Even one “small” word, in faith, will kill the enemy. Ephesians 6:17: and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God). The snake turned around and wailed saying, “This will be the death of me!”. I was so glad Duran was there. I said, “Do you think it'll be enough to kill him?” and he said, “Yip. But he's going to suffer first”. (This plague will cause suffering and hopefully give people time to repent before they die. The saints or sanctified ones, will be preserved.  Please prepare yourselves, friends, and family for this plague. (I believe this represents resting while darkness covers the earth.) I could see myself in the dream resting as I was witnessing this in the spirit. (A person who has entered the rest from their own works is capable of being used by the Lord. Heb 4:9-11 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.) Suddenly, a bright white light appeared. The white light was so pure that it would be blinding to the natural eye, if looked directly into it. The light illuminated in a width of a few inches and the length was around 4 ft. This light seemed like a UV light. (UV light is used in the food industry as a form of purifying and extending the shelf life of food. The UV light kills viruses and microbes that would cause the food to spoil. I used to be an electrician in the food industry it was part of my PM's to check the quality and functionality of these UV lights.) This illuminating white light formed a line at my feet while I was sleeping. (1 Jo. 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.) The light began to scan my body starting at my feet to my head. While watching in the spirit I could see this white light making a complete and thorough scan of me while I slept. (Pro 20:27 The spirit of man is the lamp of Jehovah, Searching all his innermost parts.)  I knew this bright light was scanning me internally and externally to reveal any hidden defects or illnesses. This light worked in the same way a CAT scan does. Except the light was not produced by a machine nor did it have a machine housing. (Rom 8:26-27 And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered; 27 and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.) It began to float toward me while I was still asleep. This force's form was spirit and the color of it was brown. (The factious spirit in state and Church is very much like the brown-shirt Nazi's.) This brown evil spirit wanted to attack me while I slept. "The curse that is causeless alighteth not.")  Skilled Carpenters Build the Ark Isaac Payne 3/29/22 (David's notes in red) In this dream I was a carpenter and performing carpentry work. (Representing following in the footsteps of Jesus.) While performing the carpentry work, I arrived at a point where I needed more instruction to continue to build and finish the project. (I believe I was building an Ark.) I called Michael Hare on his phone to ask him for directions on performing the next step of building the Ark. (Michael, who's name means “Who is like God?” represents our Master Carpenter, Jesus, who was God in the flesh. We are learning from Him how to build the an Ark to preserve God's people. Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?) Michael answered the phone and put it on video chat so I could see clearly the instructions that I needed. I could see the room Michael was working in and it was white. (Representing purity.). Michael was showing me his workbench while using video chat. He was a skilled carpenter and had many tools around his room.  (I believe the tools represent the authority of binding and loosening. Mat. 16:19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of he
