In the game of life almost everyone wants to win at something, and it got me thinking about how we approached trying to win a game as a PRO athlete. In the NFL winning the game can come down to the most minute detail. You can do everything right for 90% of the game, but a mental error here, blown assignment there, or lack of awareness in a single situation during the game can be the difference between victory and defeat. Because the margin for victory is so small our coaches would spend hours studying the opponent, how they respond in specific situations, creating game plans, and communicate everything they had seen so that we had an awareness of the exact keys that it would take for us to win the game. A great coach knows when to press the gas pedal, and when rest may be needed. A great coach holds their team accountable to the standard, and knows how to motivate each of the players individually to get the most out of each of their talents. A great coach is constantly analyzing the available data looking for the one or two things that will give their team an advantage, and ultimately a great coach understands how to put their team in the best position to win. The greatest coaches are able to win if they have to come from behind, are able to bounce back and make adjustments in game, and even when they don’t have the most talented team on paper they are able to win because of their game plan on execution. When we apply this same process and strategy to our personal lives using self awareness we gain access to the tools that allows us to coach ourselves to our highest level so that we can actualize our full potential. To win our individual games of life we can’t only rely on others to coach, challenge, and push us, we have to develop ourselves into being our own great coach by utilizing self awareness. Self awareness is more than knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are, with self awareness you know exactly how to put yourself in position to win regardless of the situation. On today’s episode we’re going to talk about self awareness, why it is so key to leveling up, and I share 4 keys that you can implement so that you can perform at your highest level.

On today’s episode we're discussing the concept of social learning. We have all utilized social learning in some way, whether it was when you were a kid and you imitated imitated siblings, friends, your parents, or any famous figures you looked up to, or when you 're a new employee or team members using social learning to observe the culture of how things are done in order to speed up your learning curve as you get acclimated to the environment and the standards. Oftentimes we only use social learning when we’re learning something new, whether it be a new role or skill, but we rarely proactively seek it out once we have “experience”. On today's episode I ask the question if you is do you apply this social learning concept in your life, and ask you have a social learning game plan? Whether it’s personally or professionally, this social learning concept is the key to leveling up efficiently. Tune in, as I share a few tips for how you can apply this social learning concept in your life to level up!

On this show we’re switching things up a bit, and I’m tossing the microphone and host hat to my wife Erin Naanee, and she is putting in the hot seat as a guest on the show Whenever I’m interviewed it brings out stories that I’ve never thought to share, it gives me a chance to stop and reflect, which to be honest is a weakness of mine, because I’m always focusing and working toward next thing. In this two part episode, Erin takes us back in time to my early days when I was a kid growing up in Portland, OR with a dream to become a two sport pro athlete, through all of the learning curves and experiences I’ve gone through all the way to right now. If you want to know how I started out in the beginning, how I navigated and overcame the obstacles and challenges I experienced on every level, and the strategies that I still use from my life as a PRO athlete. Hit play for part 1 of this episode to hear my answers to the questions below. Early Lessons I’ll Never Forget What many people don’t know is that I quit my first year playing tackle football. Werin and I talk about the learning curves and the lessons I took away from that experience that I used my whole career. How My Parents Set Me Up For Success Success was stressed from an early age in my household growing up, Erin asked what tools, resources, and asked what specific things my parents did that helped to set me up for success. Advice To Parents Of Athletes That Want To Play College Level Sports Erin asked what advice I would give advice to parents of athletes that want to play on the college level. If you want a blueprint for how to help your athlete reach their full potential tune into the full episode. The Process Of Transitioning Into College & Life In The NFL We discuss the many challenges, obstacles, and adversity I was faced with in college, and how I turned those obstacles into fuel and tools that I used as a pro athlete, and we talk about the draft process and what it’s like to receive that phone call saying “we are drafting you with our next pick, welcome to the San Diego Chargers”. In this interview with myself in the hot seat we talk about stories, and I share insights I have never shared before. Tune into the full episode, this is one you won’t want to miss!
On this episode I share 4 steps you can take to find your secret sauce, and create an advantage for yourself as your looking to level up. As a former Pro athlete, when you're competing against the best athletes in the world, you have to find and create your advantage on a daily basis. Both in my career in the NFL and post career one of the ways I created my advantage was by getting clear on what my brand was. Defining my brand as an athlete is what allowed for me to overcome the challenges. It was when my back was against the wall, that I had to get clear on my brand identity. It was the clarity in my vision, mission, purpose, and values, that allowed me to block out the noise, distractions, and to focus all of my time energy, and focus on things that I could control, so that I was able to make the necessary pivots to make it to achieve my dream of playing in the NFL. Even if you're not an athlete, when you're clear on your brand's identity, it allows for you to remain focused through challenges, adversity, and obstacles. Now when I say the word brand, I’m not talking about being an Instagram Influencer, or a network marketer, although you can use these same concepts I discuss, but for purposes of this conversation, when I use the word brand I’m talking about your brands identity, meaning what people think, and what you might want them to think, after they have had an experience with you. There's no feeling like, being in a football game on the road, in the fourth quarter, the biggest play of the game, there’s 80,000 screaming fans, and the ball is thrown to you, will you tense up, or will you rise to the occasion? In those moments of pressure in my (both on and off the field,) I have used a neutral thought process and approach to show up at my best in those moments. Neutral thinking is a high-performance strategy, Pro and Elite level athlete use to prepare so that they can trust their training and be at their best in those high level pressure situations. With neutral thinking the you remove emotion from the situation so that you can identify the facts as what they are in the present moment, or when assessing past events and outcomes. The goal is for you to be able to use all of your experiences to your advantage. Although you may not be a Pro Athlete, on this episode I share how you can use this same neutral thought process and approach, using a simple 4 step process to help you achieve your goals or overcome an obstacles. Tune into to the episode to get the 4 step framework!
