John delves into his journey from being the president of BC Liquor Stores to becoming a business coach, emphasizing the need for entrepreneurs to gain clarity and control over their businesses. The conversation highlights the challenges faced by business owners, such as time management, team building, and financial strategies. John explains his approach to coaching, focusing on identifying key priorities and eliminating tasks that hinder growth. The episode explores the personal aspects of coaching, discussing how coaching often involves a blend of business strategy and personal development. John and Jonathan emphasize the importance of articulating a clear vision and aligning the team's efforts to achieve business success.KEY TAKEAWAYSBusiness coaching often entails personal coaching in disguise, providing entrepreneurs with a non-judgmental space to articulate their thoughts and challenges. The primary challenges for small business owners revolve around time management, team building, and financial strategies.Effective coaching involves helping business owners prioritize tasks, identify their top priorities (top 5), and delegate responsibilities to focus on high-value activities.Business success requires aligning the team's vision and efforts, emphasizing the need for clarity and strategic planning.Entrepreneurs should recognize tasks that evoke a feeling of dissatisfaction ("crap list") and delegate those tasks to free up time for high-value activities.QUOTESAll business coaching is personal coaching in disguise. It's the manifestation of the owner's mindset or skills that have taken them as far as they can go, and now they need to go beyond that.""Focus doesn't mean saying yes; it's about learning to say no. It's the hard thing about focus because business owners often suffer from shiny object syndrome.""Business coaching often involves providing a sounding board for entrepreneurs, allowing them to express their thoughts and define their vision, leading to action."Connect and learn more about John Nieuwenburg in this link below.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/business-coach-canada/If you enjoyed today's episode, please subscribe, review, and share with a friend who would benefit from the message. Many of the cases she works on are resistant to conventional medical treatment such as anxiety, insomnia and chronic conditions, and often respond very well to the complementary approach of hypnotherapy and the pioneering techniques Dr. Gabor has developed. Well what was the reason they might have asked?”  “In comparison to needing clarification, a person may ask deeper, more pointed questions because they want to gain more understanding and explore more deeply the topic that is being discussed.”“Before the presentation, with a fixed mindset, we might say to ourselves “Am I able to do this? I don't have the same level of expertise.” Whereas with a growth mindset, we might say “I'm not sure I can do this, but I'm going to do it and I can't learn if I don't try.”'“Different people hear, see, perceive the world in different ways. Different brains have different capacities to hear, perceive and see the world.”“The most important part of presentation preparation is speaking to your audience's objective, not to yours.”“In many cultures, pausing indicates a lack of knowledge. Speakers often fear being judged negatively for pausing, but pausing confidently creates authority.”“When we stop forcing the brain to think about a thing we reduce the pressure on the brain and Bop! How do you introduce a guest speaker while energising and engaging audience? Often overlooked, tasks such as introducing speakers, giving votes of thanks, and emceeing events are key responsibilities many professionals are delegated. Using examples, Christine explains how to approach these tasks with the right tone, brevity and knowledge to avoid losing the audience before the speech has even begun.      CHRISTINE REVEALS:That introductions are not about making your own “mini speech”. Your goal is to create interest. A secret reading technique inexperienced emcees can use with cue cards. The importance of researching the guest speaker in advance. How to stimulate interest, before giving away the speaker's identity. A useful mnemonic for structuring an introduction: Welcome. Introduce the title. Intrigue. Notches (achievements) and finally Speaker - Always aim for the "WIINS".BEST MOMENTS“Many people who decide to work on their public speaking or presentation skills often only focus on, to be quite frank, themselves.”“It's important that you don't overshadow the speaker in any way.”“When introducing a speaker, it's important not to be a slave to the notes. You want the delivery to sound spontaneous, not stilted or robotic.”"Many of you will remember the 2018 communication scandal which resulted in Starbucks closing 8,000 stores to retrain 175,000 employees."“This example is somewhat of a formal introduction, but there is still a hint of humour and ease to its presentation. It's made to target the audience member who is not familiar with the speaker.”“The degree of formality will change greatly depending on the tone of the event, of course. If you work in English, but it's not your first language, this is an episode not to miss!CHRISTINE REVEALS:Power is also called ‘Tone Quality' and is often referred to as ‘Stress' by English language teachers. How we weaken and strengthen sounds in English and link certain word combinations impacts how well an audience can understand what we say. When speaking too softly, listeners can lose confidence in the speaker, or when too loud, a speaker can frustrate or alienate the audience.A special technique the best orators use to take their audience on a journey as they speak. How mastery of these techniques using Phenomenal Presenters can provide you with the engagement you desire when presenting or communicating in English.BEST MOMENTS“A well-used punch of power vibrated within the resonators offers a delightful quality to a speaker's overall tone.”“Variability is key. Too soft, an audience may lose trust. Too loud and a speaker can appear overly dominant or emotional and push people away.”“Languages use stress differently. Some apply the same degree of power to every syllable. Some apply the same degree of duration to every syllable, the same pace. Spanish and French are examples of that.”“One of the most memorable speeches ever given and still one of the most famous speeches today draws on both of these techniques, three or more, the powerful rule of three when speaking, and on the building to a climax. Which speech, you ask? Martin Luther King's “I Have a Dream”.”“It's particularly important to understand this aspect of English, that we weaken and strengthen sounds, that we link certain sounds together.” CONTACT METHODEmail: christine@languagecouragecoaching.comInstagram: connected_communicationWebsite : www.languagecouragecoaching.comTraining: www.phenomenalpresenters.com ABOUT THE PODCASTCultivate confident English-speaking skills with Connected Communication, the podcast series for anyone communicating in English as a global lingua franca. She demonstrates how to use your voice to display confidence, or lack thereof, and shares a secret about the narrative we hear in our heads when speaking in front of others. If you want to be a proficient speaker, in meetings or on stage, this episode is a must-listen! KEY TAKEAWAYS Language, culture and life experience influence how we form thoughts and ideas and process concepts. Pausing allows the listener to connect their thoughts to the speaker's ideas. The subconscious brain doesn't know the difference between what's real and imaginary. When we tell ourselves we're boring, we teach the brain to believe that's true.Pausing quietens inner chatter and negative thoughts while speaking, encouraging confidence. How we pause naturally has become a habit, having developed over time in the communication culture which we have grown up. BEST MOMENTS ‘A speaker may say something that is the total opposite of my experience, or nurturing. Then my brain questions what they've said, and I need time to connect the dots across my understanding to be able to continue focusing on what they say.'‘One of the biggest challenges people who move from the city to the countryside often have is dealing with the silence. From my perspective the opposite is true, I am a total country bumpkin.' ‘The Direct Experience Network is when we simply notice what's happening in the moment. It allows us to completely disconnect from future and past concerns; just be in that moment.‘In English, one very important aspect of pause is the consideration of the listener.'CONNECT WITH CHRISTINE:Email : christine@languagecouragecoaching.comWebsite : www.languagecouragecoaching.comTraining: https://bit.ly/Connected_Communication ABOUT THE PODCASTWelcome to Connected Communication, a podcast series for anyone who has to communicate in English across languages and cultures. She shares what it means to yield, take and steer a turn, and why a strong speaker sometimes needs to help the quieter voices in the room. KEY TAKEAWAYS How songbirds take turns is teaching researchers a lot about turn-taking in human conversation.Steering is when a good communicator pulls the conversation from a dominant monologuer and moves it towards others, fostering inclusion. It is important to speak so that others can understand. Be mindful not to use acronyms or complex language or vocabulary that listeners might not be able to follow. In many Asian cultures, they won't interrupt. There will be no taking of a turn unless a turn is given or afforded to somebody.'BEST MOMENTS 'Not everyone is able to read speech cues, or hear them. E05: St Patrick – Priest or Poison?

Connected Communication

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 21, 2023 13:15

In this episode, Christine calls into question Ireland's patron saint, Patrick, and explores if he should be considered saintly at all. Until quite recently, discussion on this subject could have been deemed by some as blasphemous, punishable by law in Christine's home country of Ireland. Christine questions whether this constructed legend has any place in a “post-reset” society wherein old stories are being rewritten. KEY TAKEAWAYS St. Patrick was a Welsh slave held captive in Ireland. When he escaped. he felt a calling from God to return to Ireland and ‘free' it from Paganism. The origins of Christianity in Ireland were weak, so the church created a story around St. Patrick, which does not echo the truth of his apocalyptic, fear-mongering preaching. As we pass through the March Equinox, a great many changes are occurring. Moving forwards, it is time to reflect on the stories we've been told, questioning what is really true and what has been woven into popular belief. BEST MOMENTS ‘Today I am braving a potential backlash, raising a topic that before January 17th, 2020, might have been seen as the utterance of blasphemous matter, a criminal offence and punishable in accordance with Irish law.' ‘Did I actually believe anything I'd said or was I spouting a story that had been nurtured since my childhood?' ‘Before Patrick, my ancestors aligned with the light of the Sun and Moon. I release this podcast at the time of the March equinox and new moon in 2023. This is the time when Earth's two hemispheres receive the Sun's rays equally. It's a time of new beginnings.'  CONTACT METHOD / CONNECT WITH CHRISTINE:Email : christine@languagecouragecoaching.comWebsite : www.languagecouragecoaching.comTraining: www.phenomenalpresenters.comABOUT THE PODCASTWelcome to Connected Communication, a podcast series for anyone who has to communicate in English across languages and cultures. Connected Communication

What pace should we use to reach our audience in various situations, and how can we improve our communication using variations of pace? Christine explains how variations of speed, accented syllables, consideration of our listener and our environment can all affect proficiency of communication when it comes to pace. KEY TAKEAWAYS Speaking too slowly causes a sense of monotony and boredom to the listener. The points being made may not be heard as a result. I often have to speed up YouTube videos.Speaking too fast becomes garbled and hard to follow, losing your audience and creating irritation or even insult.   The choice of pace is affected by how we feel. When we are excited we speak faster, when less energised we talk more slowly, with less enthusiasm. Consonant clusters, new and borrowed words and phrases make articulation difficult when speaking a different language. Consider the acoustics of the room you are going to speak in before deciding on pace. Think about the people in your audience, their language, age and capacity.Consider consistency in your rhythm, slower for the more important words and faster for prepositions and articles.  BEST MOMENTS ‘I'm referring to pace in English. In a future episode, we will explore the fascinating features of pace across languages.''Speaking rate needs to be adjusted to different audiences. When we're not used to certain accents, our brains can't process what's being said as quickly.'‘We can also show when we are being reflective or trying to remember something by using a slower rate.' ‘You're Polish, used to speaking to Germans. Your German counterparts are used to your accent and speaking pace. Then, you go into an American company to talk to people in Southern America. On top of not being used to your accent or rhythm, they may have an unconscious bias that fires immediate judgement when you speak.'  CONTACT METHODEmail : christine@languagecouragecoaching.comWebsite : www.languagecouragecoaching.com2024 update - discount is finished! E06: Native Speakerism: Don't Call Me a Native English Speaker

Connected Communication

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 21, 2023 23:09

What does it mean to be a native English speaker? Christine considers the history of English in Ireland, how the Irish have ended up speaking better English than the English themselves, and how the connotation of the term ‘native English speaker' has resulted in unfair bias against communicators who are often multilingual and speak English as a third or fourth language. KEY TAKEAWAYS English first came to Ireland in the 12th century. Gaeilge, or ‘Irish', is the true ‘native' language of Ireland. When the Tudor monarchs conquered Ireland in the 16th century, English was formally introduced.  Hiberno English represents the marriage of two distinct languages, Gaeilge and English.So-called ‘native' speakers do not always know more, understand more, or have the capacity to communicate more proficiently across cultures than so-called ‘non-native' speakers.‘Non-native' labelling often results in unnecessary bias and damage to the confidence of the bi or multilingual English speaker.  BEST MOMENTS ‘The English language was, let's use the term, ‘brought', to Ireland by the British as it was to every other country in the world which now calls it their own.'‘Our leaders allowed the Irish language to be reduced to second language status, finding opportunity and benefit in having a population that used English.'  ‘Ah, the lessons we learn about our own and others' perceptions! There was a great YouTube short done about a Chinese lad who planned to come to Ireland and decided to learn the native language, but bless him, he learned Irish and then when he got here he discovered that nobody spoke it.'‘It is time to stop using terms like ‘native' and ‘non-native' when referring to speakers of languages'; to stop patronising multilingual employees by saying things like “oh, you pronounced that perfectly”, or worse, stopping them mid-presentation and saying, “could you speak more clearly, I can't understand your accent.”CONNECT WITH CHRISTINE:Email : christine@languagecouragecoaching.comWebsite : www.languagecouragecoaching.comTraining: www.phenomenalpresenters.comABOUT THE PODCASTWelcome to Connected Communication, a podcast series for anyone who has to communicate in English across languages and cultures. It's not the way you grew up, either. It's your mindset. It's your belief system. When I say choose faith to you, I'm not speaking of God or the Universe. You read the title correctly. For someone who has been weight lifting since transitioning from a black and white TV to color why would I even ask such a question? Maybe the question needs to be asked. Sometimes we blindly follow something because others do it. If we see results from what we have learned then our confidence in it is even more enforced. This topic is the title of my guests' book but removing the "is" so it reads Weight lifting is a waste of time" We need to look at the choice of words used "weight training" not "resistance training" which is what we dissect and go through. People are using bands for rehab which is useful but when used for resistance the wrist gets in a compromised position and can cause damage. John has patented a technology utilising the stability of a bar in regular weight training and have added some very thick bands to bring you X3. Science has proved that through regular weight training you may be able to build muscle but it doesn't mean that it is the most efficient way to do it. We discuss how Johns Jaquishs X3 patented technology could be the future of resistance training and for more muscle growth, strength and also good for cardiovascular endurance. In this podcast we actually cover a vast array of health related topics and many are a very unorthodox approach. We even went off topic on a few occasions so my apologies haha. Personal development was the spark that ignited Jeassea's passion for Astrology. For years, she deepened her knowledge and empowered herself in exploring the intricacies of planetary influences. Her thirst for learning never stopped and at some point, it became a clear desire to share astrology with others. She honed in on her skills by getting certified from the Canadian Astrological Association of Education . This enabled her to further refine her ability to sift through abstract concepts, to draw out the essence of a chart and communicate it in a form easy to understand. In addition to Astrology, Jeassea has a love for Personal Development Coaching, which she also offers as a great complement to Astrology, or as a stand-alone for your personal growth. She trained with the Coaches Training Institute, and here she shares: “Coaching transformed my life and the way I communicate with others. We all have the answers within us, and as a Coach, my intention is to guide others to empower themselves and to transform through their own awareness.” Jeassea's affinity for Energy work has also led her to explore ways of clearing blocked energy to free more space to receive and to release what no longer serves. As part of her coaching sessions or along with other sessions, she uses Quantum Healing techniques. Jeassea's intention is to provide a private, safe and loving experience for all her clients. www.crownastrology.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Her specialities are in the field of Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Personal Development Coaching. She is a big advocate of Hypnotherapy as a fast an effective tool to changing patterns and behaviours that do not serve you. The key topics we discuss in this podcast:  Hypnotherapy for anxiety - Reprogramming unhelpful behaviours & thought patterns Most of our lives are run on subconscious patterns  We are married to our beliefs "I never believed I could give up drinking"  My model of the world was - drinking was normal and that I couldn't socialise without it  I was drinking 8 bottles of wine a week  The book "Kick the drink easily" by Jason Vale, changed everything for me People don't cope when you give up alcohol  I've never once missed drinking  The first Sales Conference when I didn't drink was a revelation  My stopping drinking triggered transformation in all aspects of my life  My (20 year) fear of sharks I no longer have  I was an anxious person  "Anxiety is something that you do, not something that you have"  We learn how to do anxiety very early in life  I see a lot of confident anxious people - seeking freedom, relief and a sense of calm  From 2012 to 2020 - I couldn't imagine, not in a million years, the change in me  Finding my purpose  The first step to change is awareness CONNECT WITH LIZ

We talk about mental heath and the worrying statistics that 1 in 3 in the UK are suffering with a mental health issue from anxiety to depression. Is the secret to Love, Sex? This week on Mindset Transformation Radio Podcast, I interview Love Coach James Green. James answers the question "Is Sex the most important factor in a relationship? Tune in to find out the answer. So, let me ask you. What do you think is the most important factor in a relationship? In my research for this interview. I found this articleon the secret to a long marriage. Hint it was not Sex! Secret to a long MarriageA couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Their domestic tranquility had long been the talk of the town. A local newspaper reporter was inquiring as to the secret of their long and happy marriage. "Well, it dates back to our honeymoon," explained the man. "We visited the Grand Canyon and took a trip down to the bottom on the canyon by pack mule. We hadn't gone too far when my wife's mule stumbled. My wife quietly said, 'That's once.' We proceeded a little further and the mule stumbled again. Once more my wife quietly said, 'That's twice.' Hadn't gone a half- mile when the mule stumbled the third time. My wife quietly removed a revolver from her pocket and shot the mule dead. I started to yell at her for her treatment of the mule when she looked at me and quietly said 'That's once." Lol. Hope you had a good laugh. But in all seriousness. We have heard the phrase " A Happy wife a happy life" Here is another article about a couple married 79 years. “Just want you to know that you’re still the one I would choose. Still the one I give my heart to, still the one I love.”So, what’s their secret?“To support one another, whatever the problems may be, good or bad. Stick together. That’s about it,” Bertha said.“You know why this lasted 79 years? She has the last word,” Dan added with a smile.Let me introduce my guest this week: James is a certified Love and Emotional Intelligence coach. His mission is to teach people how to love themselves as well as love each other. James specialty is Relationship and Personal Development Coaching. Show notes: 1.Question 1: Tell us of your journey to become a Love and emotional Intelligence coach. Do you have a personal story that made you specialize in this field? I was a single parent and realized that when looking for a mate, I had to look for someone who would fit into my lifestyle as a single father. The woman had to accept me and my son as a package deal. That made me look at factors other than Sex. As far as my journey to becoming a Love and Emotional intelligence coach, I found I had the aptitude to reach people. People opened up to me. I remember once standing in the line at McDonald's and this man in line started talking to me telling me his story. I decided to get my certification as a Life Coach 2.Question 2: How does emotional intelligence fit into the relationship dynamics?Emotional Intelligence is the ability to hear what your partner is not saying. It is the ability to realize that when your partner says Fine, I am okay with that. for example. She is not fine with that, from her tonality or her body language. Another facet of emotional intelligence is the ability to keep your cool and not fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. 3.Question 3: What problems do find are the most common and how do you coach your clients to solve them? I find Trust, Communication and the inability to seek out coaching until after they start experiencing problems.Couples tend to think that coaching is not needed until there is a huge problem in their relationship and when I... We all think of growing older with a certain amount of fear. We often enter life after the age of 50 unsure about what the second half of life will hold for us. Rosetta’s guest on this episode is Gwen Lavender, a Transition Coach, mentor, and speaker. She helps maturing women through transitions in life to accomplish things they’ve always wanted to do so that they can live their best lives, with no regrets! She delights in helping women entering the second half of life navigate the new waters of aging and move forward with confidence - and she does it so well because she understands them - because she is them. Learn about Gwen’s enthusiastic approach to the last half of life, on this episode. Women entering the second half of life have many struggles - and so much opportunity! It’s easy to feel discouraged as you age. The years bring difficulties or obstacles you’ve never experienced before - aches, bodily changes, lack of energy, and many others. But those things don’t need to be discouragements for you. You can learn to accept and integrate into this new phase of life - and the good news is that you can do so in ways that are purposeful and powerful. Rosetta’s guest, Gwen Lavender is a specialist at helping women who are transitioning into the later half of life do so with enthusiasm and optimism. Many of her clients are accomplishing things they never thought possible - and doing it in the later half of life. You can find out more about Gwen and how she helps her clients, on this episode. It’s even more important that you live intentionally as you pass the 50-year mark. The older we get the more we can feel that our best years are behind us. But Gwen Lavender strongly disagrees. She’s found herself doing more and better things after 50 than she did before, and she believes that every woman can experience the same thing - if they are willing to boldly step into their new season of life. That means facing fears, applying yourself, and investing the time, effort, and money to make it happen. You can do what you set your mind to do, but only YOU can do it. Find out more about how Gwen helps women just like you, on this episode of Happy Black Woman. You have an abundant life. But with that abundant life, there is work to be done. There are very few things in life that simply “come” to us. Everything worth having and worth doing requires that we invest ourselves into the accomplishment of it. But as you age, as you feel the reserves of energy and personal strength are not what they used to be, you might start to believe that you can’t take the kind of intentional action required to do what you really want to do. Today’s guest, Gwen Lavender is a living demonstration of how untrue that belief is. She’s accomplished so much after the age of 50 and is eager to help you do the same thing. Find out how you can get a complimentary discovery session with Gwen to create your own action plan for a more abundant life in the second half of life, by listening to this episode. Give yourself permission to pursue what you really want to do. When Rosetta asked Gwen Lavender what her #1 piece of advice is for women over 50, Gwen didn’t skip a beat in answering: “Give yourself permission to pursue what you really want to do.” There are lots of things that could convince you that it’s too late, that you can’t do what you really long to do, and all of them are false. But you won’t discover the truth of that statement unless you first give yourself the permission to get moving toward that dream. Find out how Gwen suggests you begin that journey, on this episode of Happy Black Woman. Outline of this great episode [2:05] Rosetta’s introduction to her guest, Gwen Lavender. Linda Van Haver is my guest. Learn more about Linda www.selfempowermentsolutions.com; My mission is to help people realize how cherished, worthy, and valuable they are no matter what they have been thru.  When a person finally loves and appreciates themselves, they can step into their full personal power.  At first glance this may sound selfish, but it is just the opposite.  Who profits by our taking ourselves off of "the list" and putting everyone else before us? When you are at your best, you have so much more to give others.   Even on an airplane, the flight attendant teaches us to put the oxygen mask on ourself before our children so that we are able to assist them.  Same principle here.  God - you helping others.  My belief is that God wants the best for us so it is my pleasure to help you get that.  When you are at your best, you overflow with the ability to help and serve others. I first opened my hypnosis practice in 1993 in Deerfield Beach, FL and then opened a second office in Boca Raton where I remained until my move to the Treasure Coast in 2005.  My clients tell me that I have a caring, friendly, professional manner and they like how I have integrated hypnotherapy with other behavior modification modalities.
