Our talk was so cool that I wanted to present the whole thing to you guys. A few weeks have gone by since the Metal Matters thing, so I figured it's a good time to drop this. RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL #_080 – THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED – THE LAST CONCERT BY BUDDY HOLLY, J.P. "THE BIG BOPPER" RICHARDSON & RITCHIE VALENS This episode pays tribute to Buddy Holly, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson & Ritchie Valens whose tragic deaths in a plane crash occurred on February 3rd, 1959. It’s been called the day the music died. We believe the best way to honor them is to reconstruct, as much as we can, the set-list they and the other artists – Frankie Sardo, as well as Dion & The Belmonts, performed with them at their final concert in Clear Lake, Iowa the previous night – February 2nd. Our very own “Rare & Scratchy Rock ‘N Roll” host emeritus, Al Mitchell, was a teenager in 1959. And he was at that dance party. You’ll hear his remembrances. We’ve also found some radio broadcasts from the following morning that reported the sad news. And we’ll sample some tribute tunes that were quickly issued in the aftermath of the crash as eulogies to all three singers. So, come with us back in time as we relive the evening before and the day the music died.

RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL #_070 – “FAMOUS TOP 40 RADIO STATION JINGLES & DISC JOCKEYS" You never would’ve heard all the great hits you grew up with if it weren’t for your favorite local top-40 radio stations, and your favorite local DJs. In New York you probably heard Cousin Brucie on music radio WABC. In Dallas it was Ken Dowe on 11-90 “KLIF” (pronounce it “cliff”). Los Angeles had Charlie Van Dyke rocking out on boss radio 93-KHJ. And our resident rockologist, Ken Deutsch, listened to DJs such as Dick Biondi and Art Roberts on 89-WLS, Chicago. We’re turning most of this episode over to Ken, the owner of the largest radio station jingle collection on this planet. He’ll flog your memory banks with some of the jocks and jingles that made your particular top-40 station so memorable. And Ken interviews two of the big air talents who played the hits back in the day – Bob Sirott and – Al Mitchell. Hear it all here.
The boys are back again. This time with Iowa State’s prized 2018 quarterback commitment Re-al Mitchell. Re-al talks about why he chose Iowa State, how much interaction he has with the staff, what he is trying to improve on this year and who he compares himself to among the current Big 12 quarterbacks. Mitchell is an impressive young man that undoubtedly fits the mold of what Matt Campbell and company are looking for on their football team. The California native will be getting his first experience of the Cy-Hawk rivalry this Saturday in Ames for a visit. He is already beginning to develop a hatred for the Iowa Hawkeyes. I’m sure he will be all-in on the rivalry after Saturday. After Re-al hung up to do what we can only assume is piles of important homework the boys discussed this Saturday’s Cy-Hawk game. Where does Iowa have the advantage? Can Iowa State exploit Iowa’s defensive secondary? We made predictions for this Saturday’s game...and once again we think you will agree!
