Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we dive into some of cinema's biggest box office failures and explore whether they deserve a second chance! Spooky season has arrived, and what's more haunting than films that flopped at the box office? We're kicking off Spooktober with Troy's favorite actor, Tom Cruise, and his 2017 fantasy action-adventure The Mummy. Joined by frequent guest Sammy of the GGTMC, the crew gets “wrapped up” in a lively discussion. Troy quizzes the gang on their favorite Cruise movies (no shame here!), and they dive deep into some lesser-known gems from the actor's career. Eventually, they unravel the mystery of The Mummy itself—packed with all the classic Tom Cruise charm. With a mere 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and the title of Cruise's lowest-rated film, could The Mummy actually be “Not A Bomb”? Tune in and find out! The Mummy (2017) is directed Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari and Russell Crowe Not A Bomb has just unveiled new designs in our Merch store! We're thrilled to share these with you. Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check them out. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs! We're committed to hearing your feedback and suggestions. The film discussion begins around 13:00.Ever tried to play tailor and ended up with a fabric fiasco? That's precisely what happened to Wilson with a pair of shorts and a sewing machine that clearly had a vendetta. If horror flicks with a side of dark humor are your thing, then join Captain and Wilson as they dissect "Malignant," directed by the horror maestro, James Wan. The film's heavy hitters, Annabelle Wallis and scream queen-in-the-making Mckenna Grace, take us through a cinematic rollercoaster laced with suspense, terror, and even a few laughs. They tackle everything from creepy parasitic twins to the peculiar underground world of Seattle, drawing eerie parallels that make the movie's setting all the more spine-chilling.Wrapping things up, they dig into the meat of their movie talk, weighing in on the film's chilling twists and the jolts that had them jumping out of their seats. Captain and Wilson don't just stop at the scare factor; they delve into the importance of recognizing and escaping abusive relationships, a theme that resonates deeply in the horror they've reviewed. So, if you're looking for a blend of humor, horror, and heartfelt cinema chat, you've come to the right place.

Malignant (2021) didn't make the best first impression for us here at Spooky Tuesday — so we were a lil nervous to revisit it on our latest episode. But with Thanksgiving right around the corner, we could think of no better time to cover such a family-focused flick, and boy are we glad we did. Now that we've done our horror homework by exploring more of director James Wan's oeuvre and cinematic influences, we may have finally built the right foundation to appreciate this bonkers batshit off-the-wall movie for the messy, camp realness it is.References:https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2021-09-10/malignant-twist-ending-explained-realhttps://www.thecrimson.com/article/2021/9/28/malignant-review-article/https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2021-09-10/malignant-review-james-wan-hbo-maxhttps://mashable.com/article/malignant-reviewhttps://www.ign.com/articles/malignant-trailer-movie-plot-james-wanhttps://mashable.com/article/malignant-hidden-detailshttps://collider.com/james-wan-malignant-interview/https://www.thewrap.com/malignant-movie-explained-james-wan/https://www.intomore.com/entertainment/film/malignant-trans-allegory/https://morbidlybeautiful.com/digging-deep-malignant-intersex/#:~:text=As%20the%20characters%20share%20one,makes%20them%20both%20intersex%20chimaeras.

In this episode we do a film review for the first time! The Movie we choose is Malignant! We recently watched James Wan's 2021 Malignant. This films stars Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson and George Young. We choose this as our 1st movie because of the director James Wan, For those that don't know James is one of the creators of the Saw Series, directed Insidious, the wildly popular Conjuring series, Fast and the Furious 7 and the new Mortal Kombat movie.  The format we are gonna run with in our film reviews are easy, They will be The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly! Camille Griffin is a writer, director, and co-producer. She has written and directed seven short films that screened at over 20 international film festivals and makes her feature film directorial debut with Silent Night. In this episode, Hooman and Chris dive deep into Silent Night and how it parodies Camille's own life. Camille brings an intentional political incorrectness to the film in order to expose how the privileged get away with a lot in society... and perhaps even more behind closed doors. The film shows the microaggressions present in everyday life without the need to walk on eggshells. In fact, no one walks on eggshells in the film; it's the end of the world!Silent Night is a Comedy/Horror starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Roman Griffin Davis, Annabelle Wallis, and Lily-Rose Depp. In true British fashion, (while the rest of the world faces impending doom), a group of old friends reunite to celebrate Christmas in the comfort of an idyllic country home. Burdened with the inconvenience of mankind's imminent destruction, they adopt a stiff upper lip, crack open another bottle of prosecco and continue with their festivities. But no amount of stoicism can replace the courage needed for their last night on earth.SILENT NIGHT is available in theaters and AMC+ on December 3rd.Now playing on Fandor is Rolling Stone: Life And Death Of Brian Jones(2019). James Wan is one of today's most celebrated horror and genre directors.  He was a the creator or co-creator of such horror franchises as INSIDIOUS, SAW, and THE CONJURING universe.  Many of these films are considered iconic films of the genre.  Now in 2021, he has directed a new horror film entitled MALIGNANT (2021) that has been released simultaneously to theaters and HBO Max. Madison (Annabelle Wallis) is married, pregnant, and seems to live the American dream.  But when her husband become abusive, her life turns upside down.  She begins to have visions of an intruder who is out hunting what appear to be random people within her hometown, Seattle, Washington.  When a deep secret about her past is revealed, the murderer, she discovers, may be someone that she has known all her life. Unlike many of his other films being written by director/writer Leigh Whannell, MALIGNANT's script is written by Akela Cooper.  The movie starts Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson, and George Young.  Music is composed by long time collaborator Joseph Bishara.  Dark Discussions takes a look at this very strange and intense film and gives their thoughts.

Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle

In Episode 52 of the Crooked Table Podcast, Robert Yaniz Jr. uncovers director Alex Kurtzman's new take on The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella. The film is, of course, intended to kick off Universal's monster-centric Dark Universe. We'll investigate whether The Mummy provides a solid foundation for what's to come as well as how it stacks up against the 1999 edition, which saw Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz bring the classic tale to the modern age. Also: Rob reviews A24's latest, director Trey Edward Shults' It Comes At Night starring Joel Edgerton, and discusses his thoughts on the latest news surrounding X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It's a jam-packed episode of the Crooked Table Podcast. So let's get to it before a certain Egyptian princess catches up with us. We're excited to hear your feedback as the show continues to evolve. As usual, the podcast does feature explicit language and, as such, is best considered NSFW. Synopsis for The Mummy, courtesy of Universal Pictures: Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters. Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television's Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV's American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson), Marwan Kenzari (The Promise) and Oscar®winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on.  Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, and Sarah Bradshaw (Maleficent) produce alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.
