On this week's show, we are joined by Stanley Cup Champion - George Parros! George is a nine year NHL veteran who, after playing U.S College hockey for Princeton and being drafted in the 8th round by the LA Kings, played for 5 different NHL teams. Parros is best remembered as being one of the “enforcers” of the Anaheim Ducks, including during their 2007 Stanley Cup Championship season. Since retiring from playing in the NHL, he has channelled that work experience into a career as the Senior Vice President of Player Safety for the National Hockey League. One of the most intelligent men, and one of the biggest, to ever play in the NHL - We are pleased to welcome George Parros! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins to react to the news last week of Brett McLean being announced as head coach of the Iowa Wild. We look at the potential fit for Doug Weight and John Hynes as assistant coaches tasked with turning the Wild Power Play into a respectable one. We discuss Gary Bettman's comments to the media regarding the current state of the NHL. We now know that the salary cap increase this year will be at most $1 million. We also react to Bettman and Deputy Comissioner Bill Daly heaping praise on Department of Player Safety head George Parros for cultivating a system that routinely fails to hand out adequate punishments. We finish by discussing potential free agents assuming the Wild do free up money to spend, with a nod to big defensemen and a couple of pipe dreams! On this edition of the Cross-Check NHL Show, your hosts Andrew Berkshire and Mary Clarke dig into the Tom Wilson conundrum, going over his history, comments from former players about the incident against the New York Rangers, the Washington Capitals' enabling culture, and the NHL Department of Player's Safety's outright refusal to protect its players. We also talk about the Rangers' strong statement about the Department of Player Safety and George Parros in particular, but unfortunately we recorded before the Rangers turned around and fired Jeff Gorton and John Davidson, which leaves us with only more questions. Also on today's episode, we talk with actor and director Jay Baruchel about the legacy of Goon as it approaches it's 10 year anniversary, Wyatt Russell and Goon 2, how he feels about his Montreal Canadiens, and what the NHL needs to do to become a modern league that draws in new fans.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust.
