Bruce Turner was a largely self-taught clarinet player who picked up alto sax in the navy during WWII. He became an in demand clarinetist in trad bands (Freddy Randall, Humphrey Lyttleton) but became even more valued for his swinging, Benny Carter styled alto playing. This podcasts presents him leading his Jump Band -John Chilton or Teddy Brown on trumpet, Pete Strange on trombone, Al Mead or Colin Bates on piano and others.
Welcome back to part two of our episode on Water Levels. We always like to see diversity in level design, right? Whether it's the a beautiful seaside area like Gondolia in DQXI or the dreaded Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2, Water Levels can be very divisive. It's Fates time, my dudes. And it's about to get real ugly. Fire Emblem: Fates is a pretty polarizing entry. In some aspects, it's a mechanically sound, highly engaging game while still managing to be a mess of a plot. In order to tackle such a chaotic game, it's time to bring in a little bit of chaotic energy. It's time for us to continue our run-through on the Fire Emblem series and this time we're hitting two games in one. Path of Radiance is coveted as one of the best (if not the best) Fire Emblem and it super sucks that it's system-locked (looking at you Intelligent Systems). It's hard to pin down a singular reason as to why this game was so successful (deep characters, rich lore, and a lot of unique systems). Thankfully, ActualLizard and Professor Bopper are back again to help tag team what makes this duo so special. Oh, and Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn is the best Fire Emblem duology. There. I said it. Come at me. *Footage from @ProfessorBopper Thanks buddy! *Whitty commentary from @actuallizard
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones is the worst Fire Emblem in the series......said no one ever. All jokes aside, Sacred Stones is an incredible entry and often hits the top of most of Emblemer's Top 3 lists. What is it about this entry that makes it so appealing? Is it Eirika and Ephraim's diverging paths? The split promotion choices? Or just the fun, ol' GBA animations? In order to tackle this iconic game, Patrick is teaming up with the incredible Professor Bopper (again) and ActualLizard (again, again) who is definitely, 100% not actually a lizard (or is he?). If you've never played this game, make sure you scour those used game stores or pray that this eventually comes to the Switch. If you have, why is this game so special to you? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rpgaymer/support
Castlevania is another one of those series that has been around since the dawn of console gaming. Tales of Belmonts, whips, vampires, and crypts. The notoriety of its design grew so large that it even spawned its own sub-genre. Hour 1: UConn beat San Diego State last night to win the National Championship. UConn was so dominant this year that none of their games were really that competitive. The Yankees beat the Phillies and Gleyber Torres seems like he's back. He may be the Daniel Jones of the Yankees for Gio. The Mets looked lifeless in their 10-0 loss in Milwaukee. Carlos Carrasco isn't used to the new pitch clock and had two violations himself. Boomer is wondering why they tear up a road and don't pave it right away. Jerry is here for his first update and has audio from Jim Nantz on CBS as UConn wins it all. Dan Hurley gives props to his team and the Big East. Jim Nantz signs off with, ‘thank you for being my friend'. The Yankees beat the Phillies and Nestor Cortes made a great play on an overthrown throw to the plate. Aaron Boone talked about how well the Yankees are hitting right now. Rookie Brice Turang hit a grand slam against the Mets in the Brewers home opener. Mark Canha struck out on a pitch clock violation. Texas Rangers' Josh Smith took a pitch to the face. In the final segment of the hour, Gio talked about a commercial that plays on WFAN where the guy says, ‘I'm Bopper' or something like that. It turns out, he's saying ‘I'm Bob Burke'. Angel Reese is not happy that Jill Biden also invited Iowa to the White House. Hour 2: Aaron Hicks played yesterday and the fans were booing him. Boomer doesn't understand why they're booing him when they were up big in the game. Gio said the Yankees need to move him for the benefit of the Yankees and Hicks. We also talked about Angel Reese and LSU winning the women's NCAA Championship. Jerry returns for an update and starts with UConn winning the National Championship. Jerry has the final call. Dan Hurley talked about adding to the Hurley name. The Yankees beat the Phillies and Anthony Rizzo had a HR. Pitcher Ian Hamilton has the ‘slambio' pitch for the Yankees. The Mets lost big to the Brewers and Mark Canha got called out for a pitch clock violation. Carlos Carrasco also had some issues with the pitch clock. Ohtani had a huge blast and our old friend Wayne Randazzo had the call. In the final segment of the hour, Vince McMahon has a ridiculous pencil thin mustache. They also talked briefly about A-I and Chat GPT. Gio's outfit for Friday night has not arrived yet and he's worried it won't be delivered in time. Hour 3: Kyle Long just tweeted about watching the show. Boomer was also playing around with Chat GPT in the break. We also talked about the upcoming Masters and LIV players being involved. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer found a store called, ‘The Leather Man', that may have something for Gio. Boomer seems very interested in the various pants this place sells. Jerry has audio of Shaun Morash from the DA Show saying he shaves his butt cheek with the same razor as his head. UConn won the National Championship last night by beating San Diego State. Jerry has postgame audio from a very sad San Diego player. The Yankees beat the Phillies behind Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo HRs. Jerry has audio of Brian Anderson calling a HR by a player named Brian Adnerson. In the final segment of the hour, a man calls in who has brought his dog to every NHL arena. He has MSG and UBS left so that's why he's up from Tampa. Hour 4: We talked about the start both the Mets and Yankees have gotten off to so far this year. Dan in Carteret calls in and says he may be going to see Springsteen with Al at Prudential Center.Jerry returns for his final update of the morning and starts with audio from UConn beating San Diego State to win the National Championship. The Yankees beat the Phillies and got homers by Torres and Rizzo. We looked at the betting odds for the Masters. The Mets lost to the Brewers 10-0. Rookie Brice Turang hit a grand slam. Buck Showalter talked about Carlos Carraso's performance. Mark Canha was struck out on a pitch clock violation. In the final segment of the show, Gio talked about the Waco documentary on Netflix.

First up on the podcast this week, Canadian Musician Editor-in-Chief Mike Raine chats with Nigerian-Canadian musician Shopé, who won the 2019 edition of CBC's Searchlight competition and was recently named one of the winners of the SOCAN Foundation's 2022 Black Canadian Music Awards. Shopé embodies the new African aesthetic; globally minded, deeply rooted in tradition, yet steeped in the west. He shares his personal and professional story, from emigrated from Lagos to Toronto, to leaving university and a path towards a career in medicine to pursue music professionally. He shares what he's learned about building a music career and multi-faceted brand, and what he'd like to teach other emerging musicians. Then, Mike chats with Phil Messier, the founder of Montreal-based sync licensing company Bopper. Back in 2013, Bopper set out to provide the advertising world with a pre-cleared music resource that is just as quick and instant as using stock music, but that provids higher-quality music and fairly supports the respective artists. Its model has proved popular with both artists and brands, with Bopper facilitating the use of songs in campaigns by TiKTok, Sephora, Maybelline, Toyota, and more.

Little Victor was raised in Italy and Memphis and was dubbed "The Beale Street Blues Bopper" by his cousin-- the avant garde-blues filmmaker, producer and performer Tav Falco. While in Memphis, his uncle, noted blues writer David Evans and family friend Alex Chilton also encouraged the young Victor, who was already playing harp and singing, to pick up the guitar. He was soon performing weekly on Beale Street with Uncle Ben Perry. With influences such as these it's no wonder Little Victor is deeply rooted in traditional blues sounds, but also has a fiercely independent artistic sense of purpose. He's made several of his own records for Wild Records, El Toro records, and Germany's Rhythm Bomb records, and his most recent effort, "Deluxe Lo-Fi" features Kim Wilson, Carl Sonny Leyland, Big John Atkinson, Willie Buck, and Tomi Leino and Jo Buddy from Finland. Victor is probably best known for his long and successful association with Louisiana Red and the significant crossover success of their "Back to the Black Bayou", on Ruf Records. They worked closely together until Red's passing in 2012-- check out Victor's emotional performance in this video of his original "The Death of Louisiana Red". In the last several years, Victor has used his strong musical vision to produce artists such as The Jelly Roll Men (see NBB Episode 7), Shakedown Tim (see NBB episode 11), Sophie Kay of Paris, Harpdog Brown of Canada, Mo Al Jazz of France, Little Hat of the Netherlands and many others. Take a blues journey with No Border Blues, the only blues podcast focused on international blues artists and hidden blues scenes around the world. Delmark recording artist Johnny Burgin and producer Stephanie Tice shine a spotlight on notable international blues performers, discuss the blues scenes in their home countries, and present intimate and exclusive musical performances.
