Hank Brennan read Proctors mean texts which failed to have the impact of last trial. However, the real shocker came next with former Canton police officer Kelly Dever as called to the stand by the defense. Dever testified she was threatened that if she didn't lie on the defense stand they would make sure she was charged with perjury. Finally, the defense put up self proclaimed dog bite expert Marie Russell to the stand. Hank Brennan was eating her alive in cross-examination before court ended for the day.Get access to exclusive content & support the podcast by becoming a Patron today! https://patreon.com/robertaglasstruecrimereportThrow a tip in the tip jar! https://buymeacoffee.com/robertaglassSupport Roberta by sending a donation via Venmo. https://venmo.com/robertaglassBecome a channnel member for custom Emojis, first looks and exclusive streams here: https://youtube.com/@robertaglass/joinThank you Patrons!lKaren Pacini, Jen Buell, Marie Horton, ER, Rosie Grace, B. Devastating day for the defense and a great day for the all-star Commonwealth team of Hank Brennan, Adam Lally & Laura McLaughlin. Karen Read's lawyer ignores the devastating black box car data shows John O'Keefe's phone stopped moving seconds after Karen Read's SUC crashed into him and instead harangues forensic data expert Shanon Burgess about how he presented his schooling on his CV in a previous case. But the jaw-dropper of the day was when Hank Brennan played the clip of Karen Read informing the “Body in the Snow” tv show crew that John O'Keefe died at approx 12:25 or 12:30. This confirms the black box data that Karen Read reversed into John O'Keefe at around 12:31:47am - 12:31:55am. John O'Keefe's phone stopped moving (adjusted for the clock drift) 12:31:47 am. Either Karen Read is psychic or she knows she fatally injured John when she chose to reverse into him at approx. 24 mph with her foot approx. 75 % down on the gas pedal with her infotainment system alarm blaring & flashing- warning Read she was about to hit John. Robert Alessi made the loathesome decision of showing the jury graphic autopsy photos of John O'Keefe's stomach and apparently horrifies the jury. Also, Karen Read's lawyers Elizabeth Little, Alan Jackson and David Yannetti put Karen Read's pro-bono lawyer Robert Alessi up to the task of arguing that they are being ambushed and accuse Hank Brennan & the Commonwealth of a rule 14 violation by making a slight admendment to an expert's presentation. Alessi accuses the Commonwealth of doing it on purpose then retreats. Judge Beverly Cannone continues to coddle accused murderer Karen Read while ensuring the increased suffering of the victim John O'Keefe's family. Whether she letting Karen Read's legal team of David Yannetti, Alan Jackson, Elizabeth Little and Robert Alessi violate their rule 14 discovery obligations flagrantly and repeatedly or whether she's refusing to punish Read's lawyers for destroying over a hundred text messages with their client expert witnesses Judge Cannone's favoritism towards the defense team is hard to miss. Judge Cannone's latest decisions done in secret, proves her callousness and contempt for victim's and their family members and her soft spot for killers and their defenders. With significant evolutions in digital technologies and media distribution in the past two decades, the business of storytelling through screens has shifted dramatically. In the past, blockbuster movies and TV shows like Friends aimed first for domestic mass audiences, although the biggest hits circulated globally. Now, transnational distribution plays a primary role and imagined audiences are global. At the same time, the once-mass audience has significantly fragmented to enable an expansion in the range of commercially viable stories, as evident in series as varied as Atlanta, Better Things, and dozens of others that are not widely known, but deeply loved by their microaudiences. Delving into the changing landscape of commercial screen storytelling, After Mass Media: Storytelling for Microaudiences in the Twenty-First Century (NYU Press, 2025) explores how industrial shifts and technological advancements have remade the narrative landscape over the past two decades. Television and movies have long shaped society, whether by telling us about the worlds around us or far away. By examining the internationalization of screen businesses, the rise of streaming services with multi-territory reach, and the stories made for this environment, this book sheds light on the profound transformations in television and film production and circulation. With a keen focus on major changes in the types of screen stories being told, Amanda D. Lotz unravels the industrial roots that made these transformations possible, challenges some conventional distinctions of screen storytelling, and provides new conceptual tools to make sense of the abundance and range of screen stories on offer. Through its comprehensive analysis, After Mass Media exposes how contemporary industrial dynamics, particularly the erosion of traditional distribution models based on geography and mass audience reach, have far-reaching implications for our understanding of national video cultures. She credits getting out and moving her body with helping her  cope with her disease and has even taken on a new challenge of powerlifting! We talk to her about training after a bowel resection and being very ill, how to trust your body, and how she keeps her body fueled. We also had a long conversation about the importance of finding a healthcare provider that's your true partner in your care and that you can trust. We also discussed how to become your own healthcare advocate and how therapy and meditation can help with learning acceptance, dealing with medical trauma, and with coping skills. We covered so many things and I think this conversation surprised all of us. We had fun and were playful and we also got deep and serious. Has the internet really been the main culprit behind the upheaval of the contemporary media industries? In Media Disrupted: Surviving Pirates, Cannibals, and Streaming Wars (MIT Press, 2021), Professor Amanda Lotz provides a rebuttal to persistent myths about disruption across the mediascape of the late 20th and early 21st Centuries. Through a granular reading of four media industries – newspapers, recorded music, film and television – Lotz demonstrates that the internet has had diffuse and divergent effects in each, none of which are adequately explained through simplistic narratives of piracy or cannibalism. Lotz suggests that the speed and scale of reconfiguration in these industries has stemmed more from built up consumer demand and business (mal)practices, often with deep historical roots, which have only then been catalysed by the advent of the internet. Alongside laying out what we often get wrong about the internet and the media industries, Lotz provides detailed analyses of those media businesses which managed to negotiate this tumultuous period successfully. Media Disruption helps us understand how the media industries got to where they are today and provides valuable lessons for those seeking to weather disruptions to come. This month on Live Culture I am in conversation with Curator/Activist La Tanya S. Autry, and Artist/Activist Amanda D. King. La Tanya is Gund Curatorial Fellow at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland, where the exhibit she curated -Temporary Spaces of Joy and Freedom -is now on view. Amanda is an Artist, Activist, Founder and Creative Director of the groundbreaking art and advocacy initiative Shooting Without Bullets. We discuss a recent upheaval at moCA, where an exhibition of drawings by noted artist Shaun Leonardo, depicting police violence, was cancelled after concern over the content was voiced. This resulted in an outcry from the artist, subsequent apologies to him from the museum and the director stepping down. Both Amanda and La Tanya were involved in raising objections to showing the work in the museum, along with Miss Samaria Rice, the mother of Tamir Rice, who was the subject of one of the drawings. Much has been written about the artist being censored, but there is more to it. This is a complex story which the two help untangle as we discuss institutionalized racism, community, and the impact of images. At the center of it all is the heartbreaking issue: what rights do family members of victims of violence have over the images of their loved ones? How do we sensitively navigate the line between public and private? And more broadly, what can we do about institutionalized racism in museums and the art world? Amanda D. King is a Cleveland-based artist, activist, and educator. Her civically engaged practice utilizes arts education, cultural production, and cultural organizing to spread progressive ideas and messages of social justice. Amanda is the Founder and Creative Director of Shooting Without Bullets, a for-impact organization utilizing cultural production, artist education and development, activism and advocacy to model an alternative arts ecosystem that accelerates movement Black and Brown youth and their communities need to thrive. Amanda holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from Bryn Mawr College and a Juris Doctor Degree from Case Western Reserve University where she received the Martin Luther King Jr., Diane Ethics, and Dean’s Community Service Awards. More about Shooting Without Bullets here: http://www.shootingwithoutbullets.org/ As a cultural organizer in the visual arts, La Tanya S. Autry centers collective care in her decolonial, abolitionist curatorial praxis. In addition to co-creating The Art of Black Dissent, an interactive program that both promotes public discussion about the Black liberation struggle and engenders fighting antiblackness through the collective imagining of public art interventions, she co-produced #museumsarenotneutral, an initiative that exposes the fallacies of the neutrality claim and calls for an equity-based transformation of museums and the Social Justice and Museums Resource List, a crowd-sourced bibliography. La Tanya has curated exhibitions and organized programs at moCA Cleveland, Yale University Art Gallery, Artspace New Haven, and other institutions. Through her graduate studies at the University of Delaware, where she is completing her Ph.D. In Art History, La Tanya has developed expertise in the art of the United States, photography, and museums. Her dissertation The Crossroads of Commemoration: Lynching Landscapes in America, which analyzes how individuals and communities memorialize lynching violence in the built environment, concentrates on the interplay of race, representation, memory, and public space. Amanda D. Singer, San Diego Family Mediation Center  Does the idea of a prenup worry you that you have set the scene for a divorce or raise trust issues? While many believe that signing a prenup predicts divorce, it is actually a great way to break money silence before you walk down the aisle. Listen in as Kathleen interviews Amanda about how to bust this myth wide open and start communicating about money before you say “I do.” Key Take Aways: All couples have a prenup even if you don’t craft one. States determine how assets will be split should a couple divorce. By drafting a prenup with your partner you are actually taking control and deciding for yourselves how you want your assets to be divided, if and when you do break up. Prenups are no longer just for the ultra-wealthy. Historically, prenuptial agreements were a way of affluent families protecting themselves from gold diggers. Today more millennials with dual careers and business start-ups, and people entering their second marriages are signing these documents. The prenup process opens up the lines of communication. If you identify your respective money mindsets, discuss similarities and differences in your family money messages, and agree how to financially operate as a couple, you actually are less likely to divorce. Yes, you sign a legal document but the experience is much richer than you might think. Amanda Singer, Esq., MDR, CDFA is a professional family mediator and co-owner of San Diego Family Mediation Center. She is also a licensed attorney and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. She works to help families improve communication, solve problems and reach agreements while staying out of court. Amanda is on the board of Academy of Professional Family Mediators and is the co-chair of this year's conference. She earned her JD from Chapman University School of Law while completing her Master's Degree in Dispute Resolution from The Straus at Pepperdine University School of Law. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Brandies University and has completed her courses as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. San Diego Family Mediation Center works with families dealing with various family issues, including divorce mediation, premarital mediation, blended families and parenting plans. Beginning in the late 1990s, the technology and even mainstream press opined extensively on the coming death of television. A decade later—and a time that found television still very much alive—that theme evolved to instead pronounce the coming death of cable. Rather than demise, the emergence of broadband-distributed television has both reinvented the medium and revealed how extensively our expectations and understandings of television are based not on the medium of television but on logics developed for its broadcast distribution. Amanda D. Lotz’s talk presents key arguments of her current book project, Being Wired: How Cable Transformed Television and the Internet Revolutionized It All with a focus on what transpired when the long anticipated face off between “new media” and television finally took place in 2010. Lotz is professor in the Departments of Communication Studies and Screen Arts and Cultures at the University of Michigan where she studies contemporary media industries, television, and gender and media. She is the author of The Television Will Be Revolutionized (New York University Press, 2007; Rev. 2nd ed. 2014), Cable Guys: Television and American Masculinities in the 21st Century(2014), and Redesigning Women: Television After the Network Era (University of Illinois Press, 2006), and editor of Beyond Prime Time: Television Programming in the Post-Network Era (Routledge, 2009). She is co-author, with Timothy Havens, of Understanding Media Industries (Oxford University Press, 2011; 2nd ed. 2016) and, with Jonathan Gray, of Television Studies (Polity, 2011).Her current work examines how cable changed television and became the dominant supplier of internet access in the early twenty-first century.
