One retailer wants to know why shops are carrying the losses, when they're hit by credit card fraud and not the companies, whose cards are being used for the dodgy transactions. Earlier this month a customer spent about $3000 on gift vouchers and goods, at Cactus Outdoor, a clothing and outdoor equipment shop in Ponsonby, Auckland. He paid with a Visa. CCTV seen by Checkpoint shows the man apparently tapping a credit card on the eftpos machine and entering a pin number; the transaction goes through. But a few days after the sale, the card holders bank, BNZ contacted the store and said it was a "card not present transaction" and the $3000 spend was not inititated or authorised by the cardholder, it took the money back out of the shop's banks account. Cactus Outdoor Managing Director Ben Kepes spoke to Lisa Owen.

The 27-year-old allegedly used the scheme to pay for an extravagant lifestyle, including private jets, expensive cars, luxury vacation rentals, and even designer puppies. As part of the deal with prosecutors, the court dismissed several counts of aggravated identity theft. The rapper has also agreed to forfeit nearly $140,000, which represents the amount he benefited from the $1.5 million scheme.According to acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy, G Herbo "used stolen account information as his very own unlimited funding source, using victims' payment cards to finance an extravagant lifestyle and advance his career."The scheme — which ran from March 2017 to November 2018 — involved G Herbo and his promoter, Antonio Strong, sharing stolen account information from dark websites through texts, social media messages, and emails. One instance involved using stolen account information to pay for a chartered jet from Chicago to Austin, Tex., for G Herbo and his entourage, according to authorities. On another occasion, a stolen account was used to pay for a luxurious Jamaican villa where G Herbo and seven others stayed for several days. G Herbo also helped Strong purchase two designer Yorkshire terrier puppies from a Michigan pet shop, totaling over $10,000.The stolen credit card transactions went through initially because the information was authentic, but many of the real card holders discovered the fraud and later reported it.In May 2021, G Herbo lied to federal investigators about his connection with Strong, but prosecutors later revealed that the two had been working together since at least 2016.Antonio Strong has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial.
