The Deputy Director for Investigations at IPID in KwaZulu-Natal Len John, says there is evidence of links between some police officers, tow-truck operators and the drug trade. Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says she has never attempted to stop investigations or prosecutions involving Truth and Reconciliation Commission cases. Testifying before the TRC Cases Inquiry, Kubayi stressed the National Prosecuting Authority's independence, saying prosecutorial decisions remain the sole discretion of the NPA's National Director of Public Prosecutions. She says her role as Justice Minister is limited to oversight and accountability, including reporting to Parliament. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Cases Inquiry, is probing alleged efforts to stall the investigation and prosecution of apartheid-era perpetrators. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.”  Luke 10:1–3One of the clearest safeguards for ensuring the authenticity and integrity of Christian duty is that we proclaim the Gospel in communion with others. The Christian disciple is never a lone ranger. We do not carry the mission of Christ by private inspiration or isolated insight, but in the context of the Church. The Gospel we preach is not our own. It originates in God, is handed on through Sacred Tradition, and is entrusted to the Church as a whole.When Jesus sent out the seventy-two disciples, He sent them in pairs. This had deep theological and scriptural significance. According to Mosaic Law, the testimony of two or three witnesses was necessary to establish truth (cf. Deuteronomy 19:15). This standard was well known in Jewish culture and was traditionally applied to legal cases, but Jesus elevated it to strengthen the credibility of evangelization. Two disciples witnessing together to the truth of the Gospel would speak with a kind of moral and spiritual authority that mirrored this ancient tradition. Moreover, when we speak in union with the Church and act in concert with other faithful witnesses, our united work of evangelization becomes a harmonious echo of God's Word rather than a solitary voice subject to distortion.Even our Lord Himself respected this principle. When the Pharisees challenged Jesus for speaking on His own authority, He responded, “Even if I do testify on my own behalf, my testimony can be verified… I testify on my behalf and so does the Father who sent me” (cf. John 8:14, 18). Jesus makes clear that He does not speak in isolation; the Father testifies on His behalf. Thus, even the Son, in His earthly mission, models the humility of cooperative testimony.Consider your own duty to testify to the truth of the Gospel. The Twelve whom Jesus had earlier sent represent the bishops of the Church, who form the foundation of Christ's mission through their participation in apostolic succession. In today's Gospel, the seventy-two represent every disciple of Christ, including each of us today. Discipleship is much more than following Jesus through a personal devotion to Him and His teachings. It also includes being sent by Him. Once we receive the Gospel and interiorize it through living faith and prayer, we will then be sent by Christ to go forth and testify to the truth we have received. This is not an option; it's a necessity.How well do you do this? Sometimes we can fall into the trap of thinking that our faith is something personal that we keep to ourselves. But it is not. It must be shared, and if we are disciples, then we are also evangelists.Being an evangelist does not necessarily mean we enter into a full-time apostolate by which we preach and teach as we travel from town to town. For most, evangelization takes place in the ordinary rhythms of life—in our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and social settings. It means living our faith with authenticity, speaking the truth with charity, and radiating Christ through our actions as well as our words. It means being willing to witness to the Gospel even when it is uncomfortable, unpopular, or rejected, and doing so in union with others in the faith.Reflect today on whether you are testifying to the truth in the way God is asking of you. Have you embraced both the privilege and the responsibility of being sent? Resolve to go forth with the courage of a lamb in the midst of wolves, never alone, but always in communion with Christ and His Church, bearing witness to the Kingdom that is at hand. Lindsay Clancy's husband found their three children dead. Now he's about to take the stand for her. Patrick Clancy discovered Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in their Duxbury, Massachusetts home in January 2023. Lindsay Clancy has conceded she killed them. What's contested in Plymouth Superior Court is whether she knew right from wrong at the time, and Patrick has landed on the side of the woman accused of ending his children's lives. He's filed a wrongful death lawsuit, not against Lindsay, but against the healthcare providers who treated her in the months leading up to that day. Court filings describe a woman prescribed at least ten different medications in four months, hospitalized three times, and turned away by a crisis hotline after asking for help. She told providers she was having thoughts of harming her children. IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson has denied any involvement in an alleged "Khan-IDAC cabal" within the South African Police Service (SAPS) or the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC). Testifying before the Madlanga Commission, Johnson said she has no knowledge of the existence of such a group within either SAPS or IDAC. She told the commission that, if such a cabal does exist, she is not part of it, Johnson also denied allegations that she disclosed a SAPS investigation docket to Major-General Feroz Khan, telling the commission the claims are vague, unsupported, and lack any particulars.

Twenty-two-year-old Mercedes Marianna Vega left her Tempe, Arizona apartment for work on the evening of April 16, 2023. Surveillance cameras captured her walking through her apartment parking garage just moments before she disappeared. Hours later, firefighters responding to a burning car along Interstate 10 made a horrifying discovery. According to investigators, Mercedes had been abducted, tortured, and her death became one of Arizona's most disturbing recent homicide investigations. As detectives retraced Mercedes' final hours, they uncovered a connection to an armed robbery three years earlier. Mercedes had identified a suspect and was scheduled to testify in court the very next day. Prosecutors now allege her killing was part of a plan to prevent that testimony, leading investigators through fingerprints, surveillance footage, phone records, and evidence spanning multiple states. The robbery case has since resulted in convictions, while the separate murder case remains ongoing. Prosecutors have charged multiple defendants, all of whom have pleaded not guilty, and the allegations have not yet been tested at trial. H.W. Brands describes how, in early 1941, Lindbergh took his arguments to Congress, testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate. He presented himself as a political "babe in the woods," taking pride in his "innocence" compared to the "culture of politics" embodied by Roosevelt. While interventionists argued that air power had made the world smaller and America more vulnerable, Lindbergh used his technical expertise to argue the opposite: air power made the United States more defensible. He reasoned that any invader would require an armada of ships that could now be attacked by aircraft 300 miles off the American shore, long before they reached land. Lindbergh rejected the label of "isolationist," proposing instead a robust "hemispheric defense." He argued that America's frontier was not on the Rhine River but 200 miles off its own coasts, encompassing the entire Western Hemisphere including Canada and Latin America. His message resonated with the public; massive rallies at the Manhattan Center and Madison Square Garden saw crowds so large that many were left waiting outside. Lindbergh's diary noted his own popularity with some vanity, viewing the cheering crowds as a sign that the people agreed with his "America first" message. However, the debate in the summer of 1941 was increasingly characterized by mockery from London, where leaders were desperate for America to stop simply selling weapons and start fighting. (6)1936
