Breaking with the usual pattern a bit, while at the 2023 HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC, I met some fantastic comics vendors, including Fred Wright, Jr. and his wife, LaTonya and daughter Bailee, who own Eastgate Comics in High Point, NC. This episode highlights Eastgate Comics and you will hear some great stories...of its origin and evolution. Theirs is a truly heartwarming and inspiring story. Please forgive the background noise of the convention. I tried to reduce it as much as possible. After the interview, you'll hear Mike and co-host, Andrew Leyland cover Fantastic Four #52, which features the first appearance of the Black Panther! Andy is from Manchester, UK, and is a lifelong comics fan and a prolific podcaster. He has more than a passing knowledge of the Fantastic four, being an original host of the Fantasticast! He also hosts a plethora of other podcasts, which I have linked below. Chatting was a “ahem” fantastic experience! Speaking of the adjective “fantastic”, during our recording I, in Freudian fashion, overused the word a bit! So, I challenge you to take a drink every time I say it! Welcome to the third episode of It All Comes Back to Superman Presents…Reuse, Recycle, Re-Release, a sub-series of It All Comes Back to Superman Series II where I will occasionally re-present an episode of one of my other shows (either the first iteration of It All Comes Back to Superman or one of the Superman centric episode of Views From The Longbox) and represent them here for…no real reason other than it sounded like a good idea to get all of my non-From Crisis to Crisis Superman podcasting in one place…eventually. These episodes are presented in their entirety with original opening and closing themes, ads, commentary that may not mean anything anymore, and humor that may not have aged well. This time out I am bringing Views From The Longbox Episode 157 out of the vault, which was originally released on March 26, 2013. This was the second of a two-part episode where I had my good friend and Overlooked Dark Knight co-host Andrew Leyland on to talk about the Silver and Bronze Age origins of Superman. In this installment, which was part of the Superman at 75: The Celebration of a Legend series I did in 2013, Andy and I talk about Action Comics #500, which is one of my favorite Superman comics ever and one of the best re-tellings of the Pre-Crisis origin ever as well. Feedback for It All Comes Back To Superman Series Presents…Reuse, Recycle, Re-Release can be sent to itallcomesbacktosuperman@gmail.com. You can subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts/iTunes or stream it through Spotify and Audible. The Fortress of Baileytude Podcasting Network is on Patreon. It's mostly a tip jar as I have no time at the moment to produce exlcusive content, but if you like the content I do produce please consider contributing a dollar a month. The closing theme to the show is titled Journey and was composed by Pontus Rufelt. It is licensed from Shockwave-Sound. Next Episode – The next time I roll out one of these I'll have a conversation with Steve Glosson from 2013 all about Smallville.

For this first episode I'm going back to Views From The Longbox Episode 15, originally released on January 1, 2013. That episode kicked off my Superman at 75: The Celebration of a Legend series that was centered on celebrating Superman's...75th birthday. It's right there in the title. In the first installment, titled 7 Ways Mike Defends Superman, I recorded an hour long reply to a cracked article titled 7 Ways Batman is Objectively Better Than Superman. That article got under my skin a little over a decade ago and I felt that I needed to respond. Did I really need to do that? Not really, but it made for a solid way to beging a podcast series. John Byrne Doesn't Play Well With Others Hello, and welcome to episode 367 of The Fantasticast. Each episode, Steve Lacey guides you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. We're finally here, the start of the 1980s renaissance of the Fantastic Four. John Byrne is here as writer and artist, and the Fantastic Four will never be the same again. Diablo is back in town, and looking to use the elemental nature of the Fantastic Four against his old enemies. Only some cunning thinking, and a well-stocked scuba store, can prevent the team from being defeated by their own dark reflections. And only the former co-host of The Fantasticast can help guide Steve through this new beginning. Yes, returning to the show for the start of the Byrne run is former Fantasticast co-host Andrew Leyland. He tore himself away from reviewing The Overlooked Dark Knight, and from hosting his eclectic pop-culture review show The Palace of Glittering Delights, to dust off his Fantastic Four longbox and make a return to the world of Fantastic Four review and commentary. Galactuth Hath A Lithp Poor Galactus. Andrew Leyland and Stephen Lacey welcome you to the latest episode of The Fantasticast. We're celebrating 75 issues of the Fantastic Four in a way that definitely doesn't involve half an issue's worth of plot stretched to fill an entire issue, oh no, not at all. We're also taking a look at The Sub-Mariner #2, featuring the return of the Plant Man. Because you demanded it. Allegedly. We're also taking a look at the effects of microwaving comics, defending the fun of the New 52, promising to buy a Dan DiDio comic, looking forward to The Flash (obviously, this was recorded before the leak of the pilot episode), and getting disproportionately angry over the mere existence of the Sleepers. It's episode 83 (we think) of The Fantasticast, and it's time for Steve Lacey and Andrew Leyland to lay some groundwork for the first true spin-off of The Fantastic Four. Issue 72 of the series prominently features the Silver Surfer, his alien morality and viewpoints, and a shedload of wanton worldwide destruction. We're also reading some of our shorter listener e-mails, looking at what happens when a cartoon adapts a storyline with two actual female characters in the story, and Steve's least-favourite Beatles song. Why does Steve think that he can inflict singing on his audience on a semi-regular basis? And why The Thinker? But we won't even begin to touch the question of who exactly lurks beneath the saucepan helmet. This week Steve Lacey and Andrew Leyland take their copies of Fantastic Four #70 and unleash the epic fight scene within. Reed Richards does to The Thinker the exact thing that Steve wants to, and Crystal is an integral and vital part of the story. Or she goes out shoppng. Take your pick. Doom/Silver Surfer: The Original Odd Couple I say that, there's absolutely no Doctor Doom or Silver Surfer in this episode... Doctor Stand-ini has done something terrible to Ben Grimm, turning him against the team in a murderous rage.
