For decades, the Marine Corps prioritized buying weapon systems over quality of life issues, which allowed the service to have enough data to justify its funding requests to purchase new weapon platforms when needed. It was only recently that the service recognized it didn't track any information on the state of its barracks. “We didn't have the data to say how we are tracking the facility's condition in detail to defend more than $200 million a year for that. But we did have the data to say we need this force design weapon system or this modernized vehicle or this modernized weapon platform,” Lt. Gen. James Adams, the deputy Marine commandant for programs and resources, told reporters at the Modern Day Marine conference Wednesday. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I'm so excited about this show because I am incredibly passionate about extreme customer service. In fact, our receptionist's title is Director of First Impressions. The recent NSW election result puts Labor in power right across the country, except for Tasmania. So, why has this happened and what does it mean for Australian citizens? In this episode we unpack how we have changed as a society and how the Liberal party has misread modern Australia. Happy New Year to all our listeners, hopefully 2023 will be another year of worker upsurge. We start our first show of the year discussing the debacle at Southwest Airlines where capitalists have once again proven they can't be trusted to manage vital infrastructure. Next we discuss the third union drive at Activision Blizzard, this time at the ironically named Proletariat Studios. California nurses just wrapped up a 10 day strike to stop assaults on their pensions, while as many as 17k nurses in NYC may soon strike over unsafe staffing and low pay as well. We belatedly check in on the strike by BCTGM workers at Ingredion in Cedar Rapids that has now gone on for over 5 months. NYC construction workers finally forced the passage of a law to hold companies liable for worker deaths caused by negligence. Workers at the Tacoma Art Museum are fighting hard for voluntary recognition of their union in order to be able to bring ALL their coworkers under one organization. Finally we check in on Starbucks, who didn't let the holidays slow down their union busting. Just as there were different gates that Nehemiah was to rebuild in the ruined city of his forefathers there are various opportunities for Godly men and women to serve each other. Today Pastor Bill talks about the possible meaning of those gates that Nehemiah was to fix. Each one is unique. This makes me think of distinct personalities within the church that could reach others for Jesus IF they were willing to do the work. Are you willing to pray and consider what you can do to smooth out the bumpiness of life?

Do you know what's beautiful? When everything works as it's meant to. Be it an event or a piece of machinery. In today's case, as Pastor Bill explains, that beauty would look like Christians getting their hands dirty in the messiness of life. Being used by God to rebuild what's broken. Just as Nehemiah did with a downtrodden place full of discouragement and shattered lives. Friends, are you ready to work for the cause of Christ? To lift one another up, giving hope where it's desperately needed?
