Show notes provided by Arco EspositoSecret Wars Part 2Having just watched the Masters on tv, I find that is the perfect analogy for this podcast, though in this case we will say that we now enter the back 6 of the masterful Secret Wars limited series! You heard us introduce you to the concepts and ideas behind Marvels first 12 issue opus, and here we will tie it all with a bow, giving insight on not only the rest of the story, but key moments like the Death of the Wasp, the introduction of the New Spider Woman, and of course we can't forget the very first appearance of Spider-Man's black costume! Sprinkle in some conversation about writer Jim Shooter and a little talk about the fantastic artist Mike Zeck and we have ourselves a great ending to this two part podcast! Join James, Joe, Chris and Mint's very own Marvel historian Arco as we bring you back to the middle of 1985 and the finale of the story line that started it all for many kids of the 80's and beyond!
We're going back to 1987 to read "Kraven's Last Hunt" by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck, which collects issues from The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man. This is a classic capes and tights story about how some men will fight a decade-long battle to best Spider-Man in hand-to-hand combat rather than go to therapy. Several content warnings apply to this journey through Peter Parker's emo phase, but you don't need to be steeped in nostalgia to appreciate the trip. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on "Banned Book Club" by Kim Hyun Sook, Ko Hyung-Ju, and Ryan Estrada.
Join the Discord and read alongIn this very first From the Archives episode of Collecting Issues, we go back to where it all began with our 2022 discussion of Kraven's Last Hunt, the seminal Spider-Man story by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck. Originally published across The Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Web of Spider-Man in 1987, this dark, introspective arc sees Kraven the Hunter bury Spider-Man alive, assume his identity, and face off against the terrifying sewer-dweller Vermin. We look at the story's gothic almost Russian literature-esque tone, its place in the evolution of superhero comics, and its heavy literary and psychological themes—including a breakdown of its Freudian structure, Blakean symbolism, and bleak commentary on identity and mortality. Plus, we revisit how this tale reshaped Kraven as a complex villain—and how its impact still echoes today.Find out as we awkwardly stumble through one of Marvel's most unforgettable arcs—with all the chaotic podcast energy of our earliest recordings.Topics include:Fearful symmetry and William Blake's “The Tyger”The evolution of Kraven the Hunter1980s New York and its influence on comic storytellingThe black suit and its darker legacyInner monologues galoreCheek touching, grave digging, and sewer monsters00:00 Introduction and Overview03:56 Correcting the Record: Spider-Man Series Clarification04:22 The Unique Structure of Kraven's Last Hunt06:56 Reading Experience and Graphic Novel Format08:03 1980s Vibes and Comparisons to Batman11:46 Freudian Psychology in Spider-Man15:29 The Shocking Suicide in Comics16:36 Kraven's Return and Downgrade22:30 Kraven's Last Hunt: Themes and InspirationsApril's Comic Book Club Pick: Eight Billion Genies by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne!Join the Discord and read alongJoin the SubstackFollow us on InstagramFollow us on TiktokWatch us on Youtube Hosted on Acast. It's time for another Gutter-Take. Webcomics are harder to find than ever. Or is it the opposite? Where do you find your webcomics, and how do you get readers to find yours? Jeff, Jam, and JD have questions and also answers. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on "The Amazing Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt" by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck.
Our panellists are back with volumes 3 and 4 of "Our Dreams at Dusk" by Yuhki Kamatani. This time we get to talk about all the characters in depth, including matters of life, death, marriage, and friendship. We finish off the series knowing a lot more about the characters, but not everything! We also talk about the founding of Cloudscape, and the difference between understanding and acceptance. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on The Amazing Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck.

Still bummed that Kraven the Hunter's solo film career failed to launch? We ease the pain with a look at the celebrated 1987 storyline by J.M. DeMatties and Mike Zeck that made the character's reputation in the first place. “Fearful Symmetry” (later known as “Kraven's Last Hunt”) is an unusually dark and generally atypical adventure for Aunt May's favorite nephew, but it speaks to the central appeal of the hero and remains one of the most celebrated Spider-Man stories of all time. We'll look at the genesis of this story as a Wonder Man pitch, DeMatties' love of Russian literature and interest in making Peter Parker's recent marriage add some emotional heft to the proceedings, and Zeck's moody and cinematic storytelling. Plus, don't miss the podcast's first (and probably last) edition of “Poetry Corner”! Support the podcast at patreon.com/ironageofcomics

Evan Bevins and Mark Radulich present our Comic Stripped 2 Guns Comparison and Review!2 Guns is a 2013 American buddy cop action comedy film directed by Baltasar Kormákur and starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. It is based on the comic book series of the same name created by Steven Grant and Mateus Santolouco, published in 2007 by Boom! Studios. The film was released in the United States on August 2, 2013, and was met with mixed reviews from critics.Steven Grant (born October 22, 1953) is an American comic book writer best known for his 1985–1986 Marvel Comics mini-series The Punisher with artist Mike Zeck and for his creator-owned character Whisper. This pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between will have you scrambling to keep up with the twists and turns. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it's a great way to score -- considering it's a cover for mob money. They'll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn't know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn't know is that Steadman's a Naval Intelligence officer. They're both undercover cops! And neither one knows that they're not robbing the mob -- they've been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA! Collecting the entire series that inspired the feature film, this light-hearted crime romp from comics legend, Steven Grant, is back and better than ever!Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

Writer extraordinaire Steven Grant is in the hot seat this week. You may know him best from the famous mid-80s Punisher mini-series he created with Mike Zeck. But he's got a lot more under his belt. For Marvel, he was a presence on the Avengers and Incredible Hulk, and he co-wrote Marvel's first limited series and one of its earliest universe-wide crossovers, Contest of Champions. You may have heard of his creator-owned character Whisper or followed his two-year run on Dark Horse's Comics Greatest World title X. Ever heard of 2 Guns? Yeah, that movie was based on his comics too. So if you don't know, now you know!Follow Steven on Twitter @ThatStevenGrant.___________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. In this episode, Andy and Mike continue discussing the last six issues of Marvel's Secret Wars from the 80's written by Jim Shooter and art by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton. We try to find the romance and love of the series since it's coming out on Valentine's Day but admittedly that's a tough one. We discuss our favorite couples in comics, our favorite couple in this series, Kickstarter's that we participated in, MST3K, Miami Vice, and we do some more crazy voices while trying to act old and crotchety. In this episode, Andy and Mike discuss the first six issues of Marvel's Secret Wars from the 80's written by Jim Shooter and art by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton.
