Is it possible to make Always Sunny in Philadelphia funnier? What if took place in space? Would anybody watch it? Would anybody care? The answer is no. Except maybe multiple failed TV Pilot podcasts, and we happen to be one of the ones that liked it! YES! This is a rare good one for us, full of talented people, and funny gags! Oh my god someone took that robot's penis! Joining us this time for our journey into outer space is Emily Rose from Who the F*ck Knows? With Emily Rose!( Linktr.ee/Emilyagogo ) We certainly wish this had been picked up instead of Glee... or the Orville... or Quark... but this 20 minutes of music deprived comedy gold is all we have. It's definitely an emotional abortion, which is a thing we learned about. Is anybody going to listen to this episode? It's actually funny... we swear...

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" have gone back to an older project they shepherded earlier on the podcast, "the Void," a sci-fi TV series Ben began developing in the vein of "star Trek" meets Lovecraftian horror. It was the inspiration for the 2022 "Star Trek-ify" episodes, and now the guys are trying to work through what Ben has roposed as the multiple seasons of this project. But first, the guys will discuss new movies as well as a trio of sci-fi pilots all linked to "star Trek" imitators, the 1967 BBC "Solornauts," "Boldly Going Nowhere" from the "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" creators, and as a bonus, the dramatic conent of a 1999 "Star Trek" porn parody (link is SFW edit) that, shockingly, is actually pretty faithful and reverent and well-regarded by fans. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 406 incudes: -Quentin Tarantino cancels his next last movie. Maybe. -Trailer reactions to "Trap" and "Mufasa." -"Rebel Moon Part 2" is finally here and it was not worth the wait or the first movie. -Ben sings the praises of "Boy Kills World" for its inventive action and attitude. -TV Pilots-- "The Solornauts" / "Boldly Going Nowhere" -The 1967 "Solornauts" is a goofy proof of concept that has so little to offer besides as a time capsule. The "Boldly Going Nowhere" has some funny moments but also feels under-developed as far as being a "Star Trek" parody or homage. "The Orville" it is not. -Bonus discussion over the "fan film" of "star Trek" which is really a safely edited 24-minute version of the 1999 adult film paordy, and yet it's by far the best written and most successful homage of them all.

In this week's show, we talk about the cancellation of Star Trek Discovery and Prodigy. In 2017, Star Trek: Discovery made a significant leap forward in LGBTQ+ representation. The character of Lieutenant Stamets, played by Anthony Rapp, became the first openly gay character with a significant role in the series. The show not only acknowledged his identity but also portrayed his same-sex relationship in a natural and positive light. This marked a significant milestone in Star Trek's commitment to inclusivity and LGBTQ+ representation. The subsequent series, "Star Trek: Picard," continued the tradition of queer representation. It introduced a transgender character, Gray Tal, portrayed by Ian Alexander. This marked the first time a transgender actor played a transgender character in the Star Trek franchise, further demonstrating its commitment to authentic representation.Star Trek has played a significant role in advancing LGBTQ+ representation in popular culture; it has sought to challenge societal norms, promote inclusivity, and provide a positive representation of LGBTQ+ characters. Those franchise boldly continues to be recognized as a pioneering force in the realm of queer representation within the science fiction genre, Paramount+ seeks to remove some of the shows from its network, claiming "low ratings", only we do not know what those ratings are and therefor have to trust this is not another "whitewashing" of our queer characters.Intro music by Jahzzar “Please Listen Carefully” "Jahzzar (betterwithmusic.com) CC BY-SA" and Outro music by Scott Holmes “Acoustic Indie Folk” @ scottianholmes@live.com.Editor: H. I first met William Shatner a little over 19 years ago when we were filming a TV inspired in part on my book, The Physics of Star Trek. The show was ultimately titled, How William Shatner Changed the World. I am not sure what I expected when I met Bill, but what I got was something completely different. After a brief period during which I felt a bit like I was being auditioned, and which I passed after we filmed a scene in which I was required to use a teleprompter to spout a long series of Star Trek technobabble, we settled in to begin to discuss the world, and I fell a bit in love. Bill reminded me in many ways of my Uncle, who had long been my favorite relative, and the patriarch of our rather small family. His humor, his confidence, his energy, and his curiosity emerged from the crumbling armor he had originally amassed to potentially protect from him what he may have expected to be a pestering nerd. (And which, for all I know, I may have been). As the days wore on (I think we spent 3-4 together in total), we began to talk about science and the world, and I was impressed not just with Bill's intense curiosity and enthusiasm, but his native intelligence. Once again, I guess I had not been prepared for that. A decade later, and perhaps seven or eight years ago, we spent a week on a Star Trek Cruise together. He of course was the headliner, and I gave some science lectures, and ended up doing two programs on stage with him—one on the program, and one more impromptu. While perhaps billed as a dialogue, the provided an opportunity for Bill to pepper me with questions about all things physics, trade jokes, and overall have a blast. I suspect that is the norm. He invests everything he gets involved in with the same joy, and charm. So, I was over the moon, when after discussing the possibility of doing The Origins Podcast for over 2 years, Bill finally, in a weak moment, I assume, agreed. It took about 30 seconds for the same sense of fun and joy to take over, a deep friendliness to be transparent, and for Bill to basically take over. From there, I held on to my chair and just tried to enjoy the wild ride. It was fun, and informative. I had 5 pages of questions to ask him, and I managed to sneak in about 3 or 4 questions. Instead the conversation went wherever it went—most often to questions about the Universe—and it was one of the most enjoyable 90 minutes I have spent in awhile. It also gave me a chance to reconnect with Bill, and I don't plan to wait another decade before doing it again. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did. He has also choreographed a sword fighting movie about Macbeth. We've known each other a long time, and we have a little reminisce about what it was like trying to get hold of manuals and equipment back in the olden days of the 1990s. We also talk about what it was like to be in the first generation of instructors in the fledgling historical martial arts community. Steve is known for his work on George Silver, and also Joseph Swetnam, who was well known for being a raging misogynist pig, and a bit of a dick even by the standards of his day. But the most important question is who would win in a three-way fight between Swetnam, Silver and Saviolo?

Sonic Frontiers, the open-world iteration of Sega's fast rodent simulator, is kind of a mess. Let's talk about it, and also a random assortment of other new releases! Also discussed: McPixel 3, Somerville, Pentiment, GOTY Award Nominees, Reservation Dogs, Andor

Thor Love and Thunder marks the first time a MCU hero has gotten four stand alone films. So, that's something anyway. We knew Thor Ragnarok 2017 was going to be hard to top, and, SPOILER this film does not. There is Thor, two of them actually, Valkyrie, Korg, and a handful of other familiar faces but somehow Taika Waititi's second outing as director seems less than the sum of its parts. The Regular Joes break it down for you like a shattered Norse hammer. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has wrapped its all to brief 10 episode run. And, much in the way The Mandalorian, quelled the bickering throngs of Star Wars folk, Trek fans seem to have finally found something they can agree on. In the season finale Paramount went deep into TOS Trek lore definitively delivering on all the promise the series holds. Again there will be SPOILERS. No Surprise, there's also the usual random topics and a round of What's in The Box. Thanks for listening!

We're joined on the bridge this week by ATV Podcast's Andrew Cunningham, to talk about the latest addition to the Star Trek family, Paramount+'s Strange New Worlds: the benefits of procedural narrative, the Shatnerian properties of Anson Mount, and horny Spock. In podcasting terms, that makes us positively Methuselahian. Since the start of EHG, our listeners have asked if we had a tip jar or donation system and we'd look at each other and say surely that is a joke, people don't pay other people to do podcasts. We'd email them back "Ha ha ha, good one, Chet" and go about our business. Now we are told this is a real thing that real nice people do. Value for value? In today's topsy turvy world? It's madness but that good kind of madness, like when you wake up at 3:15am and clean your house. Or something. In all seriousness, we are humbled by your continued prodding to get a Patreon page up for EHG and here it is! Extra Hot Great on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
To celebrate the premiere of STRANGE NEW WORLDS and commemorate the passing of original STAR TREK artist James Bama, this week's topic is the novelizations of James Blish. There is a reading from the SPACE SEED short story, and Montalban/Nimoy/Shatner impressions are just barely avoided. --Please leave us a rating on Apple Podcasts/iTunes!-- Website: pendantaudio.com Twitter: @pendantweb Facebook: facebook.com/pendantaudio Tumblr: pendantaudio.tumblr.com YouTube: youtube.com/pendantproductions

In this episode we'll consider all the people around you who are trying to make bold statements about a variety of things, but it's getting them nowhere. Hopefully, you're not one of them. A few days ago I was driving back from a leadership development conference I co-host each year in Ruidoso, New Mexico. As I was driving behind a pickup I noticed a bumper sticker that simply said "Boldly Going Nowhere". That bumper sticker rolled around in my head for a while and I began noticing people all over the place who could be the poster child for that thought. Being bold has its place, but it's usually best applied, or visible, through what you accomplish. It should be a driver, not a statement. Join me as we consider how to avoid boldly going nowhere.
At 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 1966, NBC aired the premiere of a new series called Star Trek. The episode was “The Man Trap.” The star date was 1513.1, in case you’re interested in that kind of thing. I am not interested in that kind of thing. The Star Trek canon encompasses 10 television shows — 811 episodes, so far — and 13 movies. I’ve just never been into it. I tried to get into it for this show, but it didn’t work. But here’s the thing: It doesn’t matter. “Beam me up.” “Live long and prosper.” “Redshirt.” “Vulcan.” “Klingon.” The English language’s best known split infinitive. Regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of Star Trek, Star Trek is a big damn deal, with nearly boundless influence. “Star Trek is more than pop culture; it’s 20th century mythology,” according to The AV Club’s Caroline Siede. This hour, a look at some of the more than 36,000 minutes — more than 25 days — of television and movies that is Star Trek. GUESTS: Sam Hatch - Co-host of The Culture Dogs on WWUH Timothy Sandefur - Author of The Permission Society: How the Ruling Class Turns Our Freedoms Into Privileges and What We Can Do About It; he wrote an essay on the politics of Star Trek Caroline Siede - Freelance writer Linda Wetzel - Associate professor of philosophy at Georgetown University Join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter. Colin McEnroe, Rebecca Castellani, Greg Hill, Chion Wolf, and Alan Yu contributed to this show, which originally aired September 8, 2016.Support the show: http://www.wnpr.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
