Text: Proverbs 18:16-18 (ESV)   16 A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before the great. 17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. 18 The lot puts an end to quarrels and decides between powerful contenders.   GIVING OF GIFTS OBTAIN FAVOR.   There is a general observation in life that giving gifts does influence. This is not an endorsement of bribery. Here, the word "gift" is not an outright ‘bribe'. The Hebrew word uses separate terms for the two concepts. Using presents to create a favorable impression is a common thing (Prov 19:6). Scripture includes multiple instances where gifts were offered to demonstrate sincere goodwill. Abraham's servant brought out jewelry of silver and of gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave to her brother and to her mother costly ornaments [Gen 24:53] Jacob gave gifts to his brother Esau[Gen 33:10] Abigail gave presents to David and his men[ 1 Sam 25:27]. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, promoted and gave gifts to Daniel. [Dan 2:48).   In verse 17, Solomon warns the importance for a person to hear both sides of a case before rendering a decision. Many claims and accusations seem plausible until scrutinized. What seems obvious, at first, may be seen more accurately when looked at with a more cautious and critical eye. A person needs to hear from others involved, or at least learn all the relevant facts, before attempting to declare who is telling the truth. This principle is extremely important in spiritual matters, is it not? The Bible doesn't just endorse cautiousness but commands it (Acts 17:11; 2 Cor 13:5; 1 John 4:1; Gal 1:8).   In verse 18, casting lots may solve disputes among people. The closest modern equivalent to casting lots is rolling dice or flipping a coin. The purpose of using lots was to avoid any perception of human bias. Casting lots was used for selecting territories in Canaan for the tribes of Israel (Num 26:55; Jos 15). It chose the scapegoat on the Day of Atonement (Lev 16:8, 10). Lots were used to pick out priests and Levites for sanctuary service (1 Chron 24:5–31; Neh 10:34; Luke 1:8). It was used to choose a successor to Judas, the betraying disciple who committed suicide (Acts 1:15–19). Before casting lots to determine Judas's successor, the believers prayed for the Lord's direction. Joshua 6:1-5 - God's Instruction Book

Joshua 6 is a exciting chapter about the walls of Jericho coming down by faith! That is what it says in Hebrews 11:30, “By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.” That is how we have victory in our Christian life! We are to live by faith not by our feelings, not by our emotions, not by our circumstances or situation, not by looking at the problem or the obstacle, the mountains or giants that have come between us and God's best for our lives. But by faith we look up to the greatness of God and fix our eyes on Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus is our Joshua and we can walk in victory every day! I know that is easier said than done!!!!   Remember Joshua is engaged in a conversation with the Captain of the LORD's Host by the walls of Jericho. The LORD is giving him specific instructions about the next step to take. And no doubt the instructions seemed very foolish and unreasonable. But they were to be observed and obeyed! This past Sunday, in my last message as interim pastor at Friendly Community Church in Burgaw, I preached on Titus 3. Paul was giving instructions to Titus to help him organized and minister to the churches on the island of Crete. At least twice in chapter 3, Paul told Titus to teach the believers there “to learn and be careful to maintain good works”.   We all need a spiritual maintenance program for our lives. And God has given us a maintenance manual called the Bible! It has very simple instructions on what we should do on our Christian walk every day. Things we should do and things we shouldn't be doing. Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16 that the Bible, God's Word, teaches us doctrine. It tells us who God is. It tells us who we are and what our purpose in life is and what life is really all about! So many people today are living vain and empty lives and they wonder why. I can tell you why and it is because we have forgotten the main instruction Book, the Bible. Not only does the Bible tell us who we are and what life is about, it gives us reproof. It warns and tells us when we are wrong and have gotten on the wrong path in life. But it does even more! It then corrects us and tells how we can be forgiven and get back on the right path. And finally, it tell us and gives us instructions on how to stay on the right path! God has an awesome maintenance program for our lives! Are you reading and applying it to your broken life, your broken family, your broken relationships?   You can't help but notice that God's in plan and instructions the emphasis is on the number seven: seven priests, seven trumpets, seven days of marching, and seven circuits of the city on the seventh day. The number seven is written clearly into the life of Israel: The Sabbath celebrated on the seventh day of the week; seven weeks from Passover is Pentecost; the seventh year is the Sabbatical Year; and after forty-nine years (seven times seven) comes the Year of Jubilee. Three of Israel's feasts fall in the seventh month: the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16), and the Feast of Tabernacles.   In biblical numerology the number seven represents completeness or perfection. The Hebrew word translated "seven" (shevah) comes from a root that means "to be full, to be satisfied." The Jews were announcing the arrival of the "Year of Jubilee" for Israel in their new land. God's people today can march in triumphal procession because of the victory of Jesus Christ over all the enemies of God (Rom. 8:37; 2 Cor. 2:14; Col. 2:15). We should be living like victors, not victims. God's people don't simply fight for victory but from victory, because the Lord has already won the battle.   Reckon on His promises and obey what He tells you to do, and you also will have the victory.   God bless!

Joshua 3:1-4 - The Word of Faith

In Joshua 3 and 4, God illustrates for us three essentials for moving ahead by faith and claiming all that He has for us: the Word of faith, the walk of faith, and the witness of faith. If we are to cross the Jordan's in our life, face the Jericho's, and defeat the giants, those obstacles and mountains that stand between us and the place of victory, we must learn to live by faith! In 2 Corinthians 5:7, the Apostle Paul said, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” We cannot walk and live by our feelings because they change depending on the circumstances and situations around us. And usually our “sight”, our feelings will usually take us down the wrong path and cause us to make bad decisions and choices for ourselves.   First, in Joshua 3:1-13, we find that God has given us the Word of faith. In this paragraph, you find five different messages, all of them based on the Word of God, which is the "Word of faith" (Rom. 10:8). The people obeyed these messages by faith, and God took them over the river. Joshua received his orders from the Lord, and he obeyed them by faith. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17). After Joshua got his orders from the LORD, he gave them to the officers or leaders of the twelve tribes, who then in verses 1-4, gave them to the people.   Joshua was an early riser (Joshua 6:12; 7:16; 8:10), who spent the first hours of the day in communion with God (Joshua 1:8). In this, he was like Moses (Ex. 24:4; 34:4), David (Ps. 57:8; see 119:147), Hezekiah (2 Chron. 29:20), and our Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:35; see Isa. 50:4). It's impossible to live by faith and ignore the Word of God and prayer (Acts 6:4); for faith is nurtured by worship and the Word. The people God uses and blesses know how to discipline their bodies so that they can give themselves to the Lord in the early morning hours.   Joshua ordered the camp to move ten miles from The Acacia Grove to the Jordan; and no doubt the people in Jericho watched this march with great apprehension. It probably took Israel a day to make this journey; they rested another day; and on the third day, the officers gave them their orders: The people were to cross the river, following the Ark of the Covenant.   The Ark is mentioned sixteen times in chapters 3 and 4. It's called "the Ark of the Covenant" ten times, "the Ark of the Lord" three times, and simply "the Ark" three times. It was the "throne of God," the place where His glory rested in the tabernacle (Ex. 25:10-22) and God sat "enthroned between the cherubim" (Ps. 80:1). The Law of God was kept in the Ark, a reminder of God's covenant with Israel; and the blood of the sacrifices was sprinkled on the mercy seat on the annual Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:14-15).   The Ark going before the people was an encouragement to their faith, for it meant that their God was going before them and opening up the way. God had promised Moses, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest" (Ex. 33:14). When the nation had marched through the wilderness, the Ark had gone before them (:33); and Moses would say, "Rise up, O Lord! May Your enemies be scattered; may Your foes flee before You" (Num. 10:35). On that occasion, the presence of the Ark was a guarantee of the presence of the Lord.   Each of the tribes had an assigned place in the camp and an assigned order in the march when they broke up camp (Josh. 2). When the leaders of the tribes saw the priests bearing the Ark and moving toward the river, they were to prepare their people to follow. Since the people had not traveled this way before, they needed God to guide them. But they were not to get too close to the Ark, for this was a holy piece of furniture from the tabernacle; and it was not to be treated carelessly. God is our companion as we go through life, but we dare not treat Him like a "buddy."   Today, are you in the Word of faith and walking by faith and not by “sight”?   God bless!

Chris Wall • Hebrews 9:11-15 ESV As the Priest, Jesus offered Himself as the only unblemished sacrifice worthy to pay the price for ALL sin. From the beginning time, priests stood as mediators between Holy God and sinful people. On the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:34), the High Priest would enter into the Holy Place offering right sacrifices to atone for the sins of the people. The blood of the sacrifice would be sprinkled on the mercy seat. Divine Holiness exposes all uncleanness and every transgression. When Christ entered the world, lived a sinless life, then died on the cross as our Mediator and High Priest, once and for all the wrath of God was satisfied and sinful people were forgiven. Jesus remains the only worthy sacrifice for sin and death. The high priest of the Old Testament would enter the temple and offer the sacrifice. Jesus entered the world and offered Himself as the sacrifice. Once and for all, His blood brought us mercy and hope in both this life, and the life to come.

“Why were sacrifices needed?” MAIN CATEGORIES OF OFFERINGS: 1. BURNT: atonement; animal completely burned; fire burns all night; performed last after other offerings such as sin and trespass 2. GRAIN: sanctification of priests; sometimes substituting for other offerings for those too poor to bring animals; combined with other sacrificial offerings 3. PEACE/freewill/thank: tithing, gifts and thanksgiving to God; sustained the priests; also eaten by the people 4. SIN: for sins committed in ignorance; part of animal (fat) burned on altar; rest taken outside camp; blood sprinkled before the veil; part eaten by the priests to bear the sins; is followed by a burnt offering. 5. TRESPASS/guilt: inadvertent defilement such as contaminated by dead carcass, illness, breaking oaths, defilement of holy things: involved both a sin and a burnt offering 6. DAY OF ATONEMENT: somber offering to completely remove the sins from the tabernacle; performed only once at the end of the year by the High Priest; involves a unique two-goat offering in which one goat is a sin offering and the other bears the sins away. · Jesus' sacrifice is a ‘one and done' offering like the Day of Atonement offering Heb 10:10-17 · Jesus' role is as High Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary, the Highest of the High Priests. Heb 8:1, Heb 9:11, Heb. 6:20, Heb 7:7 to officiate in the sanctuary on the Day of Atonement Lev 16:2, Lev 16:17 · The Day of Atonement involved a special, unique dual-goat sacrifice… · One goat is a sin offering “for the LORD” Lev 16:15-16 · The other goat is the scapegoat (azazel=goat (aze) that disappears): Lev 16:20-21 · The scapegoat should be better understood and not assumed to be Satan as it doesn't seem to fit this description. · It is an unblemished goat. It had to be because it was selected randomly so it could have ended up as sin offering. · It has the responsibility to carry the sins away, even as the priests and Christ himself bear the sins temporarily. Lev 16:22, Lev 10:17, Heb 9:28 · Even the man which leads it out, had to have special qualifications. · Jesus doesn't require a sin sacrifice (bull) to sanctify himself as the Levitical priests because his own body, pure and undefiled, is offered. Heb 7:26-18 · The daily offerings in the earthly sanctuary could not take away sins. Heb 10:11 · But Christ's atonement offers perfect sanctification Heb 9:11-14 · They involve an ongoing process – change of our heart Heb 10:16 · And a final cleansing process- change of God's heart to “remember our sins no more” Heb 10:17 · The process for us to grow. It involves chastening, a “writing” on our hearts, bringing us from ignorance to repentance to living by the Spirit - cleanse our conscience from dead works Heb 9:14 -make us “perfect in regard to the conscience” Heb 9:9 -give us a “good conscience toward God” 1Pe 3:21-22 -to “bring us to God” and make us “alive by the Spirit” 1Pe 3:18 -to “perfect us forever” as a final act Heb 10:14 -us who are “being sanctified” as a process Heb 10:14 · The Lord loves whom He chastens heb 12:6, Heb 12:9-10 · Christ's sacrifice is so we can live “for the will of God” and not spend our lifetime “doing the will of the Gentiles” (walking in the ways of the flesh) 1Pe 4:1-6 · The use of the word “perfect” in Hebrews always pertains to US or to the sanctification process FOR US. · Jesus is not the “perfect sacrifice”, but the sacrifice which makes perfect. · To retreat backwards is to crucify Him again Heb 6:4-6 Sacrifices and final Atonement are for us to live and grow closer to God right now, to prepare us for being that bride someday when we will come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God Heb 12:22-23 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/from-the-top-ministries/message

Wednesday September 15 2021, sundownThis morning we shall discuss the “Day of Atonement” or known as “Yom Kippur” [ Yom = the day, Kippur = ask for forgiveness].  Other words this is a special Feast in which you and I ask our Heavenly Father for all those sins which we may have over looked throughout the past year.Lev. 23:26-32 ; Hebrews 9:6-14, 7:22-27, 10:1; Lev. 16; Rev. 20:1-3; Exd. 28:33-35      Zech. 14:2-5, 12:9-11; Isa. 53It took place on the tenth day of the seventh month (Tishri), that is, symbolically, when the sacred or Sabbath of months had just attained its completeness. Nor must we overlook the position of that day relatively to the other festivals. The seventh or sabbatical month closed the festive cycle, the Feast of Tabernacles on the 15th of that month being the last in the year. But, as already stated, before that grand festival of harvesting and thanksgiving Israel must, as a nation, be reconciled unto Yahweh, for only a people at peace with Yahweh might rejoice before Him in the blessing with which He had crowned the year. And the import of the Day of Atonement, as preceding the Feast of Tabernacles, becomes only more striking, when we remember how that feast of harvesting prefigured the final ingathering of all nations. In connection with this point it may also be well to remember that the Jubilee Year was always proclaimed on the Day of Atonement (Lev. 25:9). Hebrews 9:6-148        signifying = “deloo” to make clear           way = literally “the way of the Holy [i.e. places]           made manifest = “phaneroo” to render apparent. This word is taken from the Greek word “fan-er-os”, meaning shinning. Now stay with me on this. The Greek word “fan-er-os” is taken from another Greek word, “fah-ee-no” which means “to lighten” or “shine”. This Greek word, “fah-ee-no” is taken from the Greek base word, “foce”, which mean to shine or make manifest. Quickly turn with me to the Gospel of John Chapter 1, beginning with verses 4-9.John 1:4     Allow me to show you something. In this Atonement we have learned that in order to atone blood has to be used. Look what John writes, “In Him was LIFE; and the LIFE was the LIGHT of men”. What about this LIFE? Let's turn to Gen 9:4, “But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.” Do you see this? The blood is the LIFE of us! Therefore can we read John 1:4, “in Him was BLOOD, and the BLOOD was the LIGHT of men?”  By His BLOOD, we are set free or atoned from the sins that we incur. In closing what does this mean to you and I?As we read last week on that Feast of Trumpets. We find in Rev. 11 those 2 witnesses, when they rose after those 3 ½ days. In verse 15 we read of that 7th trumpet being blown. From the time of that trumpet sound until that final cup of wrath is poured out, we have that opportunity to make atonement for our sins that took place during the tribulation period. Especially those that followed after that false messiah, thinking he was that true Messiah. What a sad sight, as some flee to the mountains praying for the rocks to fall on them, instead of making atonement. As we come into this Feast of Atonement, we need to search our hearts. Let's ask ourselves, how are we living for Yahshua Messiah? Do you know Yahshua Messiah as your personal Savior? Do you have that one on one relationship with Him?Join with me as we “Unravel the Words of Yahweh” on keeping the True day of Yahshua Messiah's Holy Day's!Have any questions? Thinking on Scripture with Dr. Steven R. Cook

In the previous chapter, Moses gave a history lesson to the second generation of Israelites, explaining how the nation came near to destruction because they had angered God by their rebellion and disobedience. But like other occasions, Moses had interceded for them, and God's anger was averted. Moses then describes how God renewed the covenant with them, saying “At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood for yourself'” (Deut 10:1). God, being gracious, was willing to renew the relationship with His people. Commanding Moses to cut out two tablets of stone implied God would rewrite the Ten Commandments on them as He'd done the first time.      God told Moses, “I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark” (Deut 10:2). God, who had initiated the covenant at Mount Sinai, was willing to renew it. The ark made of acacia wood was the container where the covenant tablets were stored (Ex 25:16). Moses revealed himself as obedient to God's command, saying, “So I made an ark of acacia wood and cut out two tablets of stone like the former ones, and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand” (Deut 10:3). It's likely this ark was a temporary container that would hold the two copies of the Ten Commandments. Later, Moses commissioned a more elaborate ark to be constructed by the expert craftsman Bezalel (Ex 37:1-9). The final ark was kept by the priests in the Holy of Holies and was significant, especially on the Day of Atonement (Lev 16:11-14). It would seem Moses carried the tablets with him up the mountain, but left the ark with the priests.      Moses records that God carried out His word, saying, “He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, the Ten Commandments which the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me” (Deut 10:4). With the second copy of the Ten Commandments in hand, Moses states, “Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, as the LORD commanded me” (Deut 10:5). As Israel's leader, Moses portrays himself as obedient to the Lord, following His commands.      What follows in Deuteronomy 10:6-9 is parenthetical, as Moses presents the Levites as the custodians of the covenant tablets. Furthermore, current scholarship has not been able to accurately identify the places that are mentioned here; except perhaps Moserah, which is likely near Mount Hor, the place where Aaron died (Num 20:23-24; 33:38-39; Deut 32:50). Moses records, “Now the sons of Israel set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and there he was buried and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his place. From there they set out to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water” (Deut 10:6-7). Though the location of these places cannot be accurately identified, they nonetheless reveal the events as both historical and geographical, occurring in time and space.      Moses gives special attention to the tribe of Levi, saying, “At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him and to bless in His name until this day” (Deut 10:8). The Levites were blessed to serve as custodians of the covenant tablets that were kept inside the ark, which only they were permitted to carry. More so, the Levites were called to “stand before the Lord to serve Him”, which meant they were responsible for the sacrifices (Ezek 44:11). The Levitical priests were to mediate between God and the people.      Furthermore, Moses explained the Levites did not have a land inheritance, but something more; namely, God Himself would be their inertance. Moses wrote, “Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God spoke to him” (Deut 10:9). The Levites were not given land, but they were given cities where they could live (Num 35:1-8), and these cities were spread throughout the land of Canaan. Having the Lord as their inheritance meant they would have a perpetual place of service in Israel and would receive the tithes (Num 18:20-24).      Today, there is no specialized priesthood, and the Catholic Church—or any organization—is not justified in creating a priestly cast within the body of Christ. Presently, in the church age, every Christian, at the moment of salvation, positionally becomes a priest to God. Peter wrote of Christians, saying, “you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Pet 2:5), and “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9).[1] This is the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who “has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father” (Rev 1:6), and “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth” (Rev 5:10; cf. 20:6). Furthermore, we do not worship at a temple; rather, “we are the temple of the living God” (2 Cor 6:16; cf. 1 Cor 3:16-17). And we do not bring animal sacrifices, but “offer up spiritual sacrifices” to God (1 Pet 2:5). The basic functions of the Christian priesthood include: The continual giving of the body for service to the Lord (Rom 12:1-2). Confessing our sins directly to God (1 John 1:6-9). Sharing the gospel with others (Rom 15:15-16). Offering praise to God (Heb 13:15). Doing good works and sharing with others (Heb 13:16; cf. Phil 4:18). Giving our lives for the benefit of others (Phil 2:17; cf. Phil 1:21-26; 2:3-4). Walking in love (Eph 5:1-2; cf. 1 Pet 1:22).      The Christian becomes a priest at the moment of salvation; however, the practice of the priesthood begins when he/she surrenders their body as a “living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship” (Rom 12:1). Unlike the OT animal sacrifices which surrendered their lives once, the Christian life is a moment by moment, continual surrender to God. This spiritual service is performed by the believer “to our God” (Rev 5:10), for the benefit of others (Gal 6:10; Phil 2:3-4; Heb 13:16). Lastly, pastor-teachers are not a special class of priests, nor is tithing obligatory for Christians. However, the NT makes it clear that it is valid for “those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel” (1 Co 9:14), and “The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him” (Gal 6:6). In this way, believers support their pastors for the work they do. However, a pastor may refuse this support if he thinks it's an impediment to ministry. When Paul ministered in Ephesus, he said, “I have coveted no one's silver or gold or clothes. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me” (Acts 20:33-34; cf. 1 Cor 9:18; 2 Cor 11:7; 1 Thess 2:9; 2 Thess 3:8).      In the last two verses of this pericope, Moses recapitulates his intercession for the nation and God's turning from His anger and intent to destroy them because of their sin. Moses said, “I, moreover, stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights like the first time, and the LORD listened to me that time also; the LORD was not willing to destroy you” (Deut 10:10). Moses' intercession is part of what kept God from destroying the nation when they sinned. With a renewed covenant in hand, God directed Moses and the nation to resume their journey onward to the land of Canaan. The Israelite's relationship with God was restored, and now they could walk together, with God leading them into the promised land. Moses wrote, “Then the LORD said to me, ‘Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them'” (Deut 10:11). Moses' prayer touched the throne of God, and the people were blessed with the opportunity to continue onward.      God's answer to Moses' prayer encourages us to intercede for others. Prayer works, but only when it agrees with God's plan. God is always sovereign and can, at times, say “no” to our requests. Remember, God had refused to answer Moses' prayer concerning his desire to enter the Promised Land. Moses prayed to God, saying, “Let me, I pray, cross over and see the fair land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon. But the LORD was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me; and the LORD said to me, ‘Enough! Speak to Me no more of this matter'” (Deut. 3:25-26). God's decision concerning Moses was final. Moses would not enter the Promised Land, for the Lord said, “Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes to the west and north and south and east, and see it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan” (Deut. 3:25-27; cf. Deut. 1:37; 31:1-2). God explained to Moses why He would not hear his prayer, saying, “because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel” (Deut. 32:51). No amount of prayer would change God's mind, so He told Moses to stop praying about it. Though God denied Moses' request to enter the land of Canaan, He said yes to his request to spare the nation when they sinned.      Our personal walk with God is to be one of righteousness as we seek to learn His Word and live His will. Our walk not only impacts us on a personal level, but it also impacts the lives of those around us. Others are blessed when we live as we ought. And they are cursed when we do not. Our prayer life is a manifestation of our walk, for the more we walk with God the more we will come before His throne of grace in prayer, and the more others will be blessed.   [1] Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum argues that the references in 1 Peter 2:5-9 refers narrowly to Jewish Christians, and there is merit to his argument. He also makes clear that all Christians, both Jews and Gentiles, are priests to God, and references Revelation 1:6; 5:10, and 20:6 as his prooftexts. New Personality(Isa. 6:5–7)At the sanctuary/temple, only the high priest could approach the pres-ence of God in the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement and onlywith a protective smokescreen of incense, or he would die (Lev. 16:2,12, 13). Isaiah saw the Lord, even though he was not the high priest, andhe was not burning incense! The temple filled with smoke (Isa. 6:4),reminding us of the cloud in which God’s glory appeared on the Day ofAtonement (Lev. 16:2). Awestruck and thinking he was finished (com-pare Exod. 33:20; Judg. 6:22, 23), Isaiah cried out with an acknowledg-ment of his sin and the sin of his people (Isa. 6:5), reminiscent of the highpriest’s confession on the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:21).“Standing, as it were, in the full light of the divine presence within theinner sanctuary, he realized that if left to his own imperfection and inef-ficiency, he would be utterly unable to accomplish the mission to whichhe had been called.”—Ellen G. White, Prophets and Kings, p. 308.Why did the seraph use a live, or burning, coal from the altar to cleanseIsaiah’s lips? (Isa. 6:6, 7.)_____________________________________________________The seraph explained that through touching the prophet’s lips hisguilt and sin were removed (Isa. 6:7). The sin is not specified, butit need not be limited to wrong speech, because lips signify not onlyspeech but also the entire person who utters it. Having received moralpurification, Isaiah was now able to offer pure praise to God.Fire is an agent of purification, because it burns away impurity (seeNum. 31:23). But the seraph used a coal from the special, holy fire ofthe altar, which God Himself had lighted and which was kept perpetu-ally burning there (Lev. 6:12). So, the seraph made Isaiah holy, as wellas pure. There is more. In worship at the sanctuary, or temple, the mainreason for taking a coal from the altar was to light incense. CompareLeviticus 16:12, 13, where the high priest is to take a censer full of coalsfrom the altar and use it to light incense. But in Isaiah 6, the seraphapplies the coal to Isaiah rather than to incense. Whereas Uzziah wantedto offer incense, Isaiah became like incense! Just as holy fire lightsincense to fill God’s house with holy fragrance, it lights up the prophet tospread a holy message. It is no accident that in the next verses of Isaiah 6(Isa. 6:8 and following) God sends Isaiah out to His people.Read prayerfully Isaiah’s response (Isa. 6:5) to his vision of God.How do we see in it an expression of the basic problem, that ofa sinful people existing in a universe created by a “ ‘Holy, holy, holy’ ” God? (Isa. 6:3, NRSV). Why was Christ on the cross theonly possible answer to this problem? What happened at thecross that solved this problem?

Hebrews 5:14-15 ESV 14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. JESUS, OUR HIGH PRIEST. Jesus is presented as our High Priest. The high priests' main duty was to make sacrifices for the peoples' sins once a year on the Day of Atonement (Lev 16) Yet, unlike the others in the past, He is described uniquely as great, passing through the heavens. It's because He is the Son of God. Such honorable descriptions of Him should encourage us to ‘hold fast our confession.' However great, Jesus isn't detached with us. For He is the great High Priest, who has identified with our struggles of life against flesh and temptations. In all aspects, He was tempted yet He didn't sin. The perfections of God displayed in a weak body. The Jews did acknowledge that Jesus was blameless. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” [John 10:31-33] How could He claim as the Son of God when He was just an ordinary carpenter from Nazareth? Is there something good coming from Nazareth? The simple answer is because He is both God and man in one person. Thus, Paul had declared, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”[1 Tim 2:5] Thus, He could sympathize with us. How does this truth have encourage you today? In this Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, could Jesus feel what you feel? Absolutely, yes! He was tempted in every respect. The devil gave Him a hard time when He fasted for 40 days. He was thirsty, hungry and weak physically when the devil came to deceive and lure Him to sin against God, the Father. Have you been treated unjustly, mocked and spat upon? Jesus had His share. In just one day, He went through six illegal trials [kangaroo courts] that eventually led to His crucifixion. Yet, as He hang at the cross as a lamb slaughtered, He was meek and blameless. As Peter accounted, “He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” [ 1 Pet 2:22-24] Jesus as a man has sympathized with sinners on earth. And as the God, He has justified and brought them to heaven. ------------------------- Visit our website and FOLLOW Gospel Light Christian Church Filipino on YouTube and Facebook.

What does it mean to follow Jesus? Don’t forget to subscribe to this podcast so you don’t miss a single episode. Sometimes we trust people better than we do Jesus. Jesus says “Follow Me.” This command isn’t just for people in the Bible. It’s for us too. 1 Peter 2:21 NLT For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. How can I follow Jesus if I can’t see Him? Matt 16:24 NLT Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. There are numerous things we see in Jesus example… Suffering is the one He listed here . But His example also includes His Love Knowledge of Scripture Prayer Life Miracles John 14:12 NLT “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. I want to give you a reminder to put in a 5X7 frame in your house. See the link below. And why was going to the Father so significant?   Following God had been the real question Israel faced 40 years prior to the event in Joshua 3. Joshua 3:2 NIV After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits (about ½ mile) between you and the ark; do not go near it.” God was saying “Follow the ark.” Why was that so important? They had never been that way before. Follow the ark is a picture of following Jesus. Obey Him at a new level. Go deeper. Grow your faith. Who do you need to witness to? Who do you need to have over for dinner to encourage them? What is your step of obedience! What was so special about the Ark? I am so glad you asked that question…you did ask, didn’t you? It’s a picture of Jesus. It helps us know Jesus better! Hebrews 9:1NLT That first covenant between God and Israel had regulations for worship and a place of worship here on earth. 2There were two rooms in that Tabernacle. In the first room were a lampstand, a table, and sacred loaves of bread on the table. This room was called the Holy Place. 3Then there was a curtain, and behind the curtain was the second room called the Most Holy Place. 4In that room were a gold incense altar and a wooden chest called the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with gold on all sides. Inside the Ark were a gold jar containing manna, Aaron’s staff that sprouted leaves, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5Above the Ark were the cherubim of divine glory, whose wings stretched out over the Ark’s cover, the place of atonement. But we cannot explain these things in detail now.   How is the Ark of the Covenant a picture of Jesus? The Ark was made of wood Overlaid with gold- Jesus- fully God and fully man Lid of the Ark of the Covenant Pure gold. The gold represented God. Only God can redeem us. We call it the Mercy Seat. That name comes from the word comes "khapporet" which simply means to make atonement, restitution or amends. Blood on the lid once a year. The atonement- Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:14-15) Covering- the blood of animals could not cleanse sin, it could only cover it. Jesus, the lamb of God gave His life to cleanse us from sin completely. Meeting place Moses met with God and God talked to him from the Ark. (Exodus 25:22) God wants to meet with you. Talk to you.   Inside the Ark Laws of God- His covenant with believers that was fulfilled in Christ Pot of Manna- Provision Aaron’s rod that budded- Spiritual Authority Follow the ark When the Israelites were instructed to follow the ark they were following more than ideology, they were following God. They were following the picture of a promise that would be fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Follow Jesus. He is both the atonement and the High Priest of the atonement. He is the final authority. He satisfied the covenant so you can enjoy the benefits of that covenant. Obedience is not like a buffet where you can pick and choose. Even when His ways seem hard, follow Jesus. You not following Jesus if you are doing things YOUR way. You can’t follow Jesus running ahead of Him. I want to give you a free reminder. I like to have reminders in my home and on my phone that help me remember truths that are important to me. I made two simple reminders for you that simply say “Follow Jesus” that will fit in a 5X7 frame that you can put beside your bed or wherever you will see it to remind you during your day. When you see the reminder, ask yourself, "Did I follow Jesus today?"  In my choices? attitudes?  with my time? with my talents?    I encourage you to change your reminder when you need a different one.
