If someone had a sickness that his doctors could not find a cure for and then, one day, he heard that a great doctor was visiting his city and that doctor had a reputation of doing wonders for people in curing them when no one else could. How excited would this person be to get an appointment with him? If someone heard that someone with the same sickness as him went to a Gadol and was healed through his beracha , how excited would he be to go see that same Gadol as well? How fortunate are we that we have the One who could heal any illness, available to us at all times! A man was bemoaning his fate to his Rabbi telling him that the doctors gave up hope trying to cure him and there was nothing left to do. The Rabbi told him, "I don't understand you. It says about Hashem that He is the בורא רפואות – He creates new ways of healing that even the greatest specialists could never have dreamed of." Many women have been told by doctors that there is no way they will ever have children. Someone related that three years ago she was at a Torah U'Mesorah Convention and she got a phone call from the coordinator of an A Time Shabbaton while the Shabbaton was going on. She told the coordinator that Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky was at the convention with her and he was not too far from where she was. The coordinator then told her she was with two women who, in the natural way of the world, would never be able to have children and asked if she could get a beracha from Rav Shmuel for them. When the Rosh Yeshiva was told that these women can't have children בדרך הטבע , he said, "Hashem can easily change teva ." Fast forward until today. A breakthrough in the medical world took place – uterine transplants had been attempted in Sweden and now here in America. Just a few weeks ago, one of those women who were asking for a beracha from the Rabbi had her first baby after having undergone that transplant. Indeed, Hashem changed the teva . The organization Bonei Olam put out a message that a client of theirs was told by the doctors that she had a 0% chance of ever having a baby. She took advantage of this new treatment that Hashem put into the world and, baruch Hashem, at the age of 40 she is now the proud mother of her very own child. Hashem creates cures and He also connects people who don't know about those cures to those who do. Hashem knows the future and at times He will set up situations from years in advance so that people will have the help that they need when they find out they need it. A man told me, three years ago a friend of his was taking his whole family to Israel. He told this friend that he knew a hotel owner there who would give him a discounted rate. The friend took him up on the offer and was very appreciative. Currently, this friend just discovered that his son suffers from a rare medical condition. He was told to go to Israel to find some pharmaceuticals and some therapies for his son there. He went back to the same hotel that he had been at three years before. While there, he happened to hear that the owner of that hotel has a grandson with the exact same rare condition. He got the number of the father of that child who proceeded to tell him about all the best doctors, therapies and treatments that are available in the market today for that rare condition. He also gave him chizuk and a lot of hope with all this valuable information. Hashem began setting this meeting up from three years ago to give this man the information he needed at the time he needed it. Hashem can help anyone with any medical condition. We are never hopeless. And the more emunah we have in His abilities to help, the greater is the zechut to bring down the refuah.

Almost 30 years ago, Brany Rosen and Rabbi Shaul Rosen found themselves struggling through infertility in a world that wouldn't even say the word. There was no one to ask about doctors or from where to receive support. With Hashem's help, Brany gave birth to a baby boy. Shortly after, the Rosens launched A TIME, offering services including social support forums, coordinating resources for treatments, educational programs, physician referrals, adoption services, and a pregnancy loss support program. A TIME has helped hundreds of thousands of individuals and couples on the family-building journey. **SPONSORS** This Episode has been sponsored by the Newman Family L'zecher Nishmas Ruchama Perel Malka Leah Bat Aryeh Leib INFINITY LAND SERVICES Title without the horror stories! 24 years ago during candlelighting erev Yom Kippur, Chanie Bochner made the decision that she wanted to help others who were going through the same struggle as she was. What started as a grass-roots effort to support couples experiencing infertility morphed into an international organization that to date, has helped bring over 10,000 babies into this world. For this episode, we have the honor of speaking with Chanie Bochner who founded Bonei Olam. Bonei Olam is a Jewish organization that provides millions of dollars annually in fertility treatment funding. They leave no stone unturned to help couples achieve the dream of parenthood. They also provide various levels of support to couples facing infertility, from medical referrals to counselor support. Bonei Olam is also the founder of the incredible V'zakeini initiative that has almost 50,000 women donating a dollar at candlelighting to support couples infertility treatments. Chanie tells us about her personal journey and how she started Bonei Olam.By the end of today's episode, we hope you walk away inspired by Chanie Bochner's story and have a greater understanding and sensitivity to the experience of those who struggle with infertility. If you yourself struggle with infertility, we hope you gain chizuk from this conversation with the woman who has helped so many Jewish couples make their dream of parenthood come true. We also hope you appreciate Chanie's comments about what she wants people to understand about the experience of couples facing infertility. We'd love to hear from you. Rav Chaim Palaggi, in his sefer Moed L'Kol Chai ( chapter 4, section 10) says that now is the time to speak about the praises of the Jewish people. On the holiday of Pesach the Jewish people give a lot of charity. He says, “ I want to count it, in order to arouse the merit of the holy nation, the Jewish people.“ He goes on to list ten things that were going on in Turkey in his times, starting with Purim and the many causes that they donated to. He ends with the words, “ Fortunate are they, and fortunate is their portion. Blessed is God who created us to bring Him honor. Baruch Hu Baruch Shemo. Blessed is He, and Blessed is His name, that chooses the Jewish people with love, because of how special we truly are. As we always say, Mi K'Amcha Yisrael/who is like Yisrael! In every generation, we have to do this. We can look back at our good deeds and recall our Matanot L'Evyonim , our Ukraine drives, our Lev Chana drive, Maot Hitim, and the many, many, different projects and initiatives that our community has taken on. Just this week David Beyda, the president- elect of SBH, son of the famous Mr. Joe Beyda a'h, invited me to take a tour of Sephardic Bikur Holim, the Hesed organization that is the pride of our community. There were many division heads and directors seated around a large conference table, representing various divisions of SBH, such as client services (that take care of each client), school/student benefits (with all types of programs worth millions of dollars), job placement, geriatric programs, a mental health clinic, a mental health referral service, a medical referral service, a volunteer unit, a fertility service, and a food pantry…. Each person is in charge of a different division that could be an organization of its own. This is what we have to do. We have to make lists and say that we are involved in Hessed. Mi K'Amcha Yisrael. It brought to mind an Agudah convention that I attended many years ago. Agudah is another wonderful organization that has many different divisions of many acts of kindness. A speaker at the convention mentioned a famous secular parable: A group of blind men heard that there was a strange animal called an elephant that had been brought to the town, but none of them were aware of its shape and form. Out of curiosity, they decided to inspect it by touch. “Hey, the elephant is a pillar,” said the first man who touched his leg. “Oh, no! it is like a rope,” said the second man who touched the tail. “Oh, no! it is like a thick branch of a tree,” said the third man who touched the trunk of the elephant. “It is like a big fan” said the fourth man who touched the ear of the elephant. “It is like a huge wall,” said the fifth man who touched the belly of the elephant. “It is like a solid pipe,” Said the sixth man who touched the tusk of the elephant…: Sometimes, when you look at an organization, or you look at a people, you can touch and you can feel but you can't possibly imagine that all of this is one being! And that is the Jewish people. There are so many hessed organizations, and so many great things that are done. There is an organization called Bonei Olam, that recently celebrated their 10,000th birth. Rabbi Bochner, the founder, who was not zoche to children of his own, has helped thousands of couples start their own families. This week they announced their first baby born after a successful uterus transplant! This brings new hope to many childless couples. These are great Hessed organizations. What really touched me at SBH was when the chief executive officer, Nathan Krasnovsky explained why he got involved. He said that his father passed away when he was young, and he was raised by a single mother. Then, when he was in eighth grade, his mother had a massive heart attack. He was alone in the house when he got the call. They said they didn't think that she would make it, and they asked him to make the decision of whether his mother should go to a closer or further hospital. He was all alone while his mother was in ICU for a very long time. He worked in restaurants to cover the rent, and he felt like he was drowning without anyone there to help him. He eventually went on to attend the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, and became a lawyer. After everything that he had accomplished, he decided that he wanted to give back. He didn't want there to be another child like himself, or another single mom like his mother, alone without support. It was very moving, and that is what the Jewish people are all about. These are the kinds of things that we should talk about before Pesach- not just about how much money people spend on Passover trips. Let's talk about how much money we spend on Hessed, and all the good things that we do, in order to arouse God's love for the Jewish people. Mi K'Amcha Yisrael! Have a wonderful day.

Meet Veronique Berman, Scientific Advisor forhttp://www.chana.org.uk ( Chana) a leading Jewish Support Charity both nationwide and internationally. It works to support couples dealing with primary, secondary infertility, miscarriage, and loss and well as supporting and advising on genetic issues, such as PGD and also Fertility preservation It covers a wide range of reproductive health issues within the Jewish community and is very much focused on the family This was the first of what we hope will be more conversations talking about faith and fertility, finding out what issues we have to overcome when our faith is tested. Within the Jewish faith, we put a big emphasis on festivals where families come together, and of course conversations and questions arise that are obviously challenging when you are struggling to conceive. Whilst some couples are getting more comfortable talking about it, the majority aren't so it is important to signpost people to those they can speak in confidence with. Chana runs programs for Rabbis, to train them on the most recent treatments and developments infertility treatment so people will then have the reassurance their Rabbi will understand Veronique and I also discussed the issues around the practice of ritual bathing when it comes to monitoring your cycle and Kate gives her feedback on the importance of remembering how different our cycles are. When it comes to men and fertility, Chana has male support workers as there is such a difficulty of getting men to speak and we also discussed a book that Chana has published called ‘Unexpecting' in which the theme of 'un-expecting' embraces all sorts of unexpected challenges that life can throw at us. Along with infertility, there is also bereavement, illness, divorce, mental health issues, and trauma to name a few. These stories are told by 40 men and women from across the Jewish community, some anonymous and many not, and share a range of life-changing issues and insights on how they have coped in the face of unexpected challenges. Rebbetzin Zelly Refson helps us shape the way we look at gratitude. Rebbetzin Zelly shows us how to curate our consciousness so that we learn to look for our blessings instead of what we are lacking. We choose our attitude to focus on our blessings. What we think about is our choice. Our thoughts are one of the only things that we really have control over. She also talks about the struggle she faced when giving birth to her second child, and how she managed to change her perspective about subsequent births. She mentions the organization, Bonei Olam, which has a campaign for women to light candles each shabbat, give $1 to charity, and pray for a couple who is struggling with infertility. After twenty years of working three jobs and traveling the world to find a solution to their infertility, Rabbi Schlomo & Chani Bochner founded Bonei Olam, a non-profit that provides large scale funding for fertility treatments and genetic research. In this episode, Rabbi Bochner shares his personal journey of struggle and heartbreak and how he channeled that pain into a miraculous org that has already been instrumental in the birth of 8,421 healthy children. The total number grows by an average of two new healthy babies every day. Note: Rabbi Bochners interview is peppered with Yiddish and Hebrew words. Most of them are words of reverence or thanks to "Hashem" another word for G-d.
