Ashira Darwish is a motivational speaker, film director, and the creator of Active Meditation, a trauma-healing modality combining Sufi and Kundalini practices. She specializes in trauma therapy for Palestinians, emphasizing collective healing and the power of activism and storytelling. In our conversation, she discussed the desecration of nature and land by colonial forces, the disruption of intergenerational knowledge, and the importance of solidarity in the fight for liberation. She also critiqued the rise of talk therapy as a substitute for community support and highlighted how colonialism and individualization suppress collective healing practices. As the director of Where Olive Trees Live, Ashira shares stories of resilience, offering a hopeful vision for Palestinian liberation and the importance of healing through unity.
In this important conversation examining the vital role of journalists and documentarians in conflict zones, Palestinian journalist, Mariam Barghouti and Jenin resident, Rawand Arqawi share their firsthand experiences with Palestinian trauma healer, Ashira Darwish, cutting through the fog of misinformation to reveal the human realities often obscured in Western mainstream narratives. Our guests shared first-hand experiences on reporting from Jenin and the broader region, exploring both the crucial importance of ground-level documentation and the challenges faced by those who undertake this work. Documenting truth has become increasingly dangerous as we've seen more journalists killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon in the past 12 months than in any similar recorded period since 1992, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Mariam Barghouti is a Palestinian-American writer, researcher, and journalist based in Ramallah. She holds a BA in English from Birzeit University and an MSc in Sociology from the University of Edinburgh, where she focused on Israeli Ashkenazi-Mizrahi racial hierarchies. Barghouti is known for monitoring humanitarian aid in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine for various organizations. Her political commentary and research have featured prominently in CNN, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, BBC, The New York Times, and more. She has contributed to books like I Found Myself in Palestine and written profiles on Palestinian figures such as artist Khaled Hourani and politician Dr. Hanan Ashrawi. Ashira Ali Darwish worked for 15 years as a TV & Radio journalist and researcher in Palestine for the BBC, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. She is the founder of Catharsis Holistic Healing, a trauma therapy project pioneering a type of Sufi active meditation which draws its roots from ancestral and Indigenous knowledge. Her personal healing journey from full body paralysis with a severed spinal cord in 2012 has given her a deep insight into the process of recovery and healing. In 2021, she received the “ISABS Honours” from the Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science for her contribution to positive societal transformation. Rawand Arqawi is a producer and cultural manager who was born and grew up in Jenin. She worked as a production coordinator for nearly six years with the Freedom Theatre, working under theater artist Juliano Mer-Khamis. During her time with the Freedom Theatre, she coordinated dozens of performances, workshops, international tours, exchanges, as well as managing communications, international volunteers, fundraising, and logistics. Beyond her work with the Freedom Theatre, she has contributed to various local artistic projects and groups, including working as a production assistant for Al Jazeera Children. In 2013, she initiated Fragments theater, and has since then continued to produce several performances and workshops. She is passionate about using arts as a tool of resistance. We're kicking off the second season of the Curl Code by sharing a vulnerable, illuminating, sometimes hilarious and alwways incredible conversation from the launch party of the show last year. This live event brought together curlies and non-curlies of different generations and backgrounds to discuss lived experiences of having curly hair. Regardless of what else we might not have in common, we discovered funny and not-so-funny stories of hair trauma, struggle, and finally, embrace that revealed to us the things we share, and helped us learn about what's changed--and still needs to change--to allow all of us to live as our most authentic selves and embrace our curly crowns. Our non-curly allies helped us understand their own experiences and limitations, and even our wavy and swavy friends got a little reassurance that there is a place for them in the the curl universe too! This conversation exemplifies the openness, authenticity and healing we stand for in this show, and at the Curly Oasis salon and education platform. We hope you'll find solidarity, companionship, and discovery in this show, and realize that whatever you hair trauma or curl experience may be, you are not alone! We join the table of Alyssa Visscher and roll the dice to create Ashira. Ashira is a grizzled Bearfolk and a hermit of a herbalist. She is more concerned with remaining in her secluded forest glade, tending to and cultivating in cooperation with Nature. Should you find her home and earn her trust, she needs your help to deliver a letter she should have sent years ago. WE HAD A TIME... Today we got to chat with THE Love Belvin. She opens up to us and shares what inspires her and how her clients come to her with their stories. Fast-forwarding three years after it was finally revealed, what's in a name? Ashira now knows the man she once thought of as a felon laborer is far more than the task she'd bargained for. Yes, he's a convicted felon who works in home-building. He's also convicted in his spiritual walk, a savvy entrepreneur, laboriously supportive, a tad insane, and has possibly run out of patience for her. He's also the father of her three-year-old child. Find out how Jas and Ashira navigate through pain, resentment, acceptance, and co-parenting, while remaining solid for their child, and being true to themselves. Is there room for them to say more? Or should they simply say less? Tonight we uncover the Prism who is Jas and his muse Ashira. All he needed was her mercy and grace to fulfill his promise, will she give it to him? This is part 1 of the prism series (books 1 & 2), be sure to watch Part 2 to hear from the Queen Pen herself Ms. Love Belvin. Ashira, a belle from the suburbs, is the wealthy acting CEO of her father's booming building firm. That's when she's not the dancer on the Gram and TikTok, dating the latest Black Hollywood shooting star. To her, Jas, a construction laborer, is a walking conundrum. He's fruitlessly ambitious yet steadfast in his spiritual convictions. He's enigmatic, well-read, regimented, and poor. Oh, and a felon. An incredibly disarming parolee who wants no connection to her. Until he does. Two souls, galaxies apart. The Black Girl Book Club Podcast thanks you for your support. The voice of urban fiction. Ashira was a late bloomer in the movement world, she spent most of her childhood and pre teen years dipping her toes in movement but mostly focusing on music. It wasn't until her mid 20's when she tried Pilates reformer that she found a sustainable way to not only consistently be active, but to enjoy being active.Ashira tried acro yoga for the first time at a music festival in 2012 in Costa Rica. She dove deep into the world of acro yoga in 2017 in Orange County, CA and never turned back. Today she practices less of the acro yoga side and more partner acrobatics (Icarian and standing), hand-balancing and loves cross training with Pilates reformer, barre3 and yoga (primarily vinyasa). In this episode, we explore a woman so important to the Jewish people that several generations of daughters were named for her—including the mother of Yēšūa (Jesus) and at least six other Miryams in the Christian scriptures! Largely drawing on the feminine voices in Rebecca Schwartz's work, All the Women Followed Her: A Collection of Writings on Miriam the Prophet & the Women of Exodus, Father Jayme helps us to imagine Miryam leading the Hebrew women in singing, “Ashira l'Adonai—I will sing to Adonai, for Adonai has triumphed gloriously!” A confident, assertive, unmarried woman, Miryam posed a threat to the social order, and her memory as priestess and prophetess was quickly suppressed by the emerging religious hierarchy of the Davidic monarchy. Father Jayme examines the story of Miryam being struck with leprosy (Numbers 12)—a story often disinterpreted with misogynistic overtones—noting that Moshe (Moses) received the same gift when he was commissioned as a prophet (Ex. 4:6). As a result, God was kindled within Miryam, and, like her brother Aharon (Aaron), who prepared himself to become a priest by spending seven days in the desert, Miryam withdrew to the desert for seven days, cementing her place as a priestess and prophetess in the ancient Jewish tradition. Father Jayme concludes with Schwartz's words, noting that Miryam “symbolizes a messianic era of full equality… as a patron saint for any woman rabbi or scholar who has had to fight for a place at the table.”
Ashira Siegel Fox is a multidisciplinary artist, primarily working in mixed media for the last two decades. Using her sewing machine and a scanner to create abstract drawings and collages made of hand dyed and painted papers, Ashira works to explore sometimes complicated relationships, mental health and tries to find balance between all the various worlds she straddles in her life. Ashira first came across NFTs through Clubhouse last Feb. and dove down many NFT rabbit holes until finding herself not only creating her own mixed media art NFTs, but also helping to launch large NFT collections - including Robotos and Toy Boogers in 2021. She recently sold out her first 3 editions on KnownOrigin and currently has work on Foundation and OpenSea as well. Ashira is mom to two small kids, a community builder wherever she is, an avid art collector of both physical and NFT art, and is helping to onboard every artist and developer friend she has to the possibilities of NFTs and web3. “Ashira l'Hashem ki ga'o ga'a”. Onkelus: “geyah al giyusnei”.We know that the neshama descends into this world to achieve things that it could not do in Gan Eden. There. Is had Ahavah and Yiraah, Razto and Shuv. Here, those things are concealed and of a lower quality. So what is gained by coming into this world? “Hamichadesh bituvo”= The maintenance of the world through Mimaleh Kol Almin. This comes from Adon Haniflaos, Sovev kol Almin. The way the neshama reaches dveikus is through its understanding of Elokus. This can only apply to the lower level of Elkous which is present in the world and prvides the neshama with its life force (MMK”A). however, Adon Hanifalos is beyond comprehension (norah sehilos). We can only access that level through Torah and Mitzvos. Krias Yam Suf= Yichud Sovev uMimaleh, as a preparation for Matan Torah. The words of Torah are called susim, because they can help the neshama achieve things it can't reach on its own. This applies to the verbalizing of the words of Torah, even without understanding. However, this only works if a person has Ahavah and Yiraah, which are the “wings” which allow mitzvos to ascend. Mitzvos, and especially Tzedakah= darchei Havayeh, they draw Elokus into this from the very highest levels (rachamim rabim). With reference to Tzedaka, we often mention both “Mishpat” and “Tzedaka”, which means that we want there to be a Gilui Elkous from the highest levels, but because at that point it is possible for this gilui to go anywhere, we want it to be channeled to BN”Y through Hashem's Gevurah (mishpat). And a refuah shleima for Ashira bat Ilana Shoshana who is undergoing surgery today and Gavriel Moshe Ben Tzivia. And refuah shleima to Barel Achiya ben Nitza. The shitin, drainpipes that were under the altar where the libation would be poured into, were already created in the creation of the world by God or by man? What verses imply that they were created in the six days of creation? To those who hold it was made by God, it descended into the depths of the earth. To Rabbi Elazar bar Tzadok who held it was manmade, it has a floor. There was a marble tablet that cover up a hole in the ground where the wine would stop. Occasionally a young kohen would clean out coagulated wine that remained there and would be taken out and burned in sanctity. Why did it need to be burned? The mishna states that laws of meila do not apply to the libations once it is in the drainpipe. Is this mishna stated according to Rabbi Elazar bar Tzadok or the rabbis? According to Reish Lakish they stopped up the drainpipes when they poured the wine to make it overflow to show satiation. Drashot are brought on the verses from the Song of Songs 7:2 that was quoted earlier as referring to the drainpipes. Now it is explained to relate to the pilgrimage to Jerusalem on the holidays. Another braita learns from this verse the importance of learning Torah with humility. Rabbi Elazar brings a drasha from another verse, teaching the same concept and he then brings several other drashot explaining the significance of going act of kindness, charity, justice, etc. He says that acts of kindness are more important than charity – why? What are the differences between then? He also explains what is meant by Torat chesed – two versions of what he said are brought.

Together they formed Astrosisters, where she and her sister bring their own approaches to ancient system/s, ultimately helping people learn aboutthemselves.Whole sign Astrology (Hellenstic Astrology) has become Natasha's base for her natal chart and synastry readings, in addition to tarot. She believes that we are the masters of our own destiny, with free will, nonetheless astrology combines ancient modalities, maths, astronomy, and mystical planetary energies to give us blueprint for who we are, and who we can be.Key takeaways:A synastry reading involves examining two charts and the compatibility/challenges in the interaction between them. Synastry readings are usually aimed for partnerships of a romantic nature, as it gives individuals an understanding of how two people work together and the dynamic of the union based on their astrological makeup. There are no 'good' or 'bad' signs for lovers. Synastry readings help you and your partner to understand how each other approach the world so you can be mindful of where you might see things differently. Astrology isn't fortune telling, it's providing awareness of where you have compatibility and where you may have challenges.Resources:https://www.astro-sisters.com/
