Jamal Sul has been making Irish Arabic electronic music as Moving Still since 2016. His productions link his Arabic heritage, with his love of synthesizers, dance music and buzzy bangers. Moving Still's music is unique in how it brings together styles of music from the SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa) with European and American club genres like Italo, electro, acid, breakbeats, house and more. Jamal's project has been in the ascendancy with releases on Cooking with Palms Trax, Orange Tree Edits, Dar Disku and his latest Close To The Shams EP on the Bordello A Parigi label. His 2022 Boiler Room set from London is an all-timer for me, and his Ouddy Bangers series has seen him put a club edit spin on pop, disco and dance classics from Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Kuwait. I talk to Jamal about all of it: his big gigs, productions, edits, influences, heritage and how Ireland has been slow to catch up on Moving Still until recently. And he picks a selection of songs that has inspired his music (listed below). Up next on the DJ front for Moving Still is the latest edition of Klub Sukar at Yamamori Tengu on Saturday April 19th. Tracks played: Moving Still - Al Disco Haram Cheick Madani - Laya Habibi Ragheb Alama - El hob al Kabir Marvellous Melodicos - sing oh (zagalo mix) Moving Still -La Titasil Feeya Haruomi Hosono - Laugh Gas Omar Souleyman - Warni Warni Moving Still - Bang of Luban Ahmed Fakroun - Soleil Soleil Ihsan Al Munzer - Jamilah Ettab - Ghorba Wa Moghtaribin (Exile and Exiled) Chaba Yamina - Sidi Mansour (Moving Still Edit) * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Listen on Apple | Android | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link

Alan Strani, in a tux so fancy, Danced the Apocalypso, feeling so chancy… With I:Cube Remix, the rhythm did enhance, see, In Bordello A Parigi, where dreams run free. He twirled and he swirled, his moves so bizarre, Apocalypso madness, like a shooting star, I:Cube's beats, like a wild electric guitar, In Bordello A Parigi, where no rules are. The night went on, a surreal cabaret, Alan Strani's dance, a wild display, Apocalypso and I:Cube's sway, In Bordello A Parigi, where we all stray. Alan Strani returns to Bordello with a remix package of his album title track ‘Apocalypso' featuring I:Cube – which we're premiering here + Lauer, In Flagranti and himself on remix duties. @bordelloaparigi

There are small flourishes here & there but for the most part it retains a driving rhythm taking reference from Italo & electro of the late 80s with a souped-up modern feel.” 8. Perhaps one of the most exciting happenings in electronic music as of late has been in the resurgence of Italy and the country's musical output. A new wave of talent has emerged producing exquisite sounds reminiscent of the days of classic italo and balearic energy. However, they have offered a new take on what was already a classic, reimagining such sounds for the present day and helping to revolutionise the sound. The likes of Periodica Records and Early Sounds have been pivotal forces and have paved the way for a new field of artists. Modula is a producer and disc jockey from Naples. Filippo Colonna Romano has released music on the likes of Bordello A Parigi, Tief, Rawax and Tartelet Records. However, it was his most recent outing on Firecracker Records which truly caught our attention, a spectacular EP packed with elements of breakbeat, funk, disco and house. We are delighted to welcome him to our mix series as he contributes in true style.
This series has been so much fun to bring to this point, the centenary episode! It has featured some well-known guests but that was never the point. It remains focused on the lesser-knowns, showing that on an avenue near you there are many ace DJ's and artists who can "see red" (meaning they can hear and recognise *quality* music), just like you can. You don't need to consult a glossy music magazine or hit up a trending music publication to find out what is worth listening to. If you are truly into underground music, you only need to dig for yourself and feed off the underground DJ's/labels/people around you who have got that mad passion, taste and burning desire to curate boss mixtapes and releases. ENTER GEORGE HYSTERIC! The Melbourne(-and-bred) DJ, music collector and Mothball Record label boss has blown many people away (including us and our mates) with his crazily coherent selections of Italo, disco, synthpop, synthwave, new wave and other interesting oddball variants of music (largely from 20+ years ago). He has got a seriously strong mixing style tailored for segueing old, loosely-timed eclectic music - a technical artform in itself that is very tough to master! George is also an excellent producer, who has officially released only a fraction of his edit works and also has some top materials of his own released on labels like Banoffee Pies, Bordello A Parigi, Public Possession and Edits Du Plaisir among others including his own label. This exclusive mix is expertly crafted. Be excited. PS. This is available to download in lossless full-res .aiff format - we thought we'd do this because it is the 100th episode. We thank George, the other contributors and of course YOU for bothering to listen. "This mix was something of a challenge because I hadn’t recorded a ‘pure’ Italo-disco mix in quite some years and had even moved away from it a bit, as although I love and always will love the genre, I had struggled to find fresh Italo tracks that appealed to me personally. This gave me the time to explore and DJ in other genres that maybe I hadn’t given enough time to before. It’s possible to also see this perhaps in the development and progression of Mothball Record moving away from a strictly Italo-disco label, with some synthwave releases and even one of 90s rave covers during 2017. The heart of Mothball will always be in Italo however, and there are some nice releases planned for 2018. Over the past few months I invested some time digging through Italian label catalogs on discogs looking for (mostly cheap) Italo records I didn’t previously know... and found quite a few nice surprises. As a result I think I was able to make a pure Italo-disco mix almost entirely free of “the hits”. I didn't have so much time to edit or produce much lately because I was busy with DJ work and stuff for the label, mostly graphic design and audio restoration. However, I will have a few things out early 2018 - an EP on Bahnsteig 23 and a 7" on a new label, which will feature more downtempo and sample-based stuff. Keep a look out for new the releases and thank you for listening!" Netherlands based, record label owner but also a Dj & event promoter Otto Kraanen is the founder of Bordello a Parigi- a label for dance music lovers which reflects his will to share his fondness for a certain kind of electronic music. With now a 100 references and a new record shop that just opened in Amsterdam, it was the right time to welcome De Dupe -his Dj moniker on our monthly radio show. He will also be our guest at the Garage-club in September 2017.
This first show of the year also marks the first birthday of Parabox. For this occasion we wanted to get someone very special, and we have! If you haven't checked any of the releases on Vivod we strongly advise you to. From disco to techno to synth-pop this label pushes out a lot of very different music however still manages to have its own recognisable sound. The tracks are so unique that Discogs vendors often sell them for much higher prices. This month we got the maestro behind this label to come in and talk about his influences. Ali Renault is also known for his productions. Most recently - Altro Mondo, released on Bordello A Parigi, delivers the ultimate symbiosis between skill, talent and taste and is highly recommended. Check out his selection of music straight after a one hour recap of last years shows. We are picking a favourite track from every guest, who came in last year to celebrate the new season and to celebrate all of the amazing people we had.
