TOO DARK. Clever simple clover pattern in just 2 rounds. Center square (in darker green)- 4g. Three rounds on outside of clover (in mint)- 12g Size: 6 inch square. Planning 5x7 blanket (30x42”) before border. Modification- the pattern calls for attaching new yarn (at the end of the square) to make the stem for the clover. I just chain to get to the center, make the stem and cut the yarn. I find it easy to crochet the granny square around it in Mint. No issues and one less end to weave in. I am joining squares as I go. I used this YouTube tutorial to remind me how to do this. Progress: more than a dozen shamrocks made. I've crocheted and seamed 7 full squares. Celebrating Jenna's Masters Degree My Dad, my cousins and I went to see my youngest cousin Bella in a high school production of Little Women (the musical). She played Amy (1 of the 4 sisters) and she did a phenomenal job. Dad and I got dinner before hand and caught up. Great night! Low key Memorial Day weekend! After reviewing what they've seen (and read) recently, Ezra, Matty, and Leah set about defining what a needledrop is and discussing some notable examples in film and TV. These range from the obvious (Guardians of the Galaxy, Forrest Gump) to some of their personal faves (Atomic Blonde, The Martian), while also talking about great music moments that don't count as needledrops. In October 2020 the 3rd Year Performing Arts Students at the University of South Wales undertook a journey into the unknown. We were going to produce a Space Disco musical extravaganza but, in the shadow of COVID lockdowns, would it be a live show, a streamed show, a film…? In the end it was a radio musical: 'Spacetouring'. Songs are by The Naked Citizens, script by Jenny Allan … and all performed by the BA Performing Arts 3rd Years. Mike is Co-Artistic Director for Festival South, a multi-week and multi-genre festival held every June in the Pine Belt. He also co-founded The Hub City Players with musical director, Tammy Mansfield. Since 2012, this elite group of actors, singers and musicians has put on various shows for Festival South including the 2019 Best of The Pine Belt Award-winning show, "Sister Act." He also does graphic design for the Hattiesburg Concert Association.... Look, we could go on and on. What you need to know is that he's a big deal and we got to sit down with him. I need to make a correction to previous statements over the years (and recently) about "My Imagination" by Ceevox. This is in fact, a remake of the Soul classic "Imagination" by Gladys Knight & the Pips from the early 70's. I'm bringing that up because I mistakingly stated that the recent rework by Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday was a remake of the Ceevox classic when in fact it is not. It wasn't until I was serviced the full set of remixes and heard the original Dirty Disco "classic disco" remix that it dawned on me what the song was. Kudos to Ceevox for totally reworking the track from its original origins and to Debby Holiday for updating the song in its original form as well as the Ceevox version. That's a lot of explaining but it bugs me when I miss something as vital as this. I'm a HUGE early 70's soul fan and why I never put the two together until now is beyond me. Many of these tracks will sound familiar to you as the artists have lifted beats and sample from works of previous generations but there are several straight up full reworks of the originals. Aside from "Imagination" Barry Harris updates the Cerrone classic "Supernature" in its full 11:30 glory while adding his own special brand to the song. While working on a new Diva Series I stumbled on the updated classic "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie from a few years ago. I have to say, this is hands down the best rework of this song EVER! Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on the forthcoming (cat out of the bag) Debbie Harry + Blondie Diva Hall of Fame set I'm putting together but is perfect here. I also close the set out with a House update of the classic rock song "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite bands featuring the blistering backing vocals by Merry Clayton. It was so well done that to leave it off would be a criminal offense if not a felony. As promised, I've got a slew of new Diva Series for you folks over the upcoming weeks. There are so many that I'll start dropping them on Sunday and release one every other day after that. Back in the peak of the “disco sucks” movement, Ted Nugent-adoring redneck crowds would promote “disco demolition derbys”, where they would proceed to torch piles of disco records. They were expressing their hatred of a music that was: a) pansexual; b) of black, Latin and gay origins; c) produced by studio boffins; d) exuded cosmopolitan savoir faire. Disco was, then, also ‘dying’ in the mainstream, thanks to an onslaught of extremely cheesy tunes that clogged the airwaves. Unfortunately, to a lot of people this is the disco they know: Village People-style crap, bad karaoke fodder. Disco, of course, was so much more than that. It not only carried on breathing, thanks to a creative and thriving underground, but also became the blueprint for the next dancefloor revolution just round the corner — namely house music. To this day, it remains one of the key influences in the music many of us dance to. This podcast pays tribute to this magnificent movement by ‘demolishing’ disco in a much more positive way: mixing, editing, juxtaposing and mashing up new and old interpretations. From the galactic bliss of Orlando Riva Sound to the symphonic sass of the Salsoul Orchestra, from the synthetic homages of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas to the shiny funkiness of Le Grand David, from the leftfield proto-garage of Loose Joints to the classic italo sounds of Klein & MBO, there is a bit of everything in here. You'll also hear Chicken Lips, Giorgio Moroder, Jermaine Jackson, Donna Summer, Dinosaur, Padded Cell and, erm, The Glitter Band (funky as fuck, check it out!). Brazilians make two decisive contributions: Azymuth's anthemic Jazz Carnival and Jorge Ben's discofied samba Taj Mahal (which Rod Stewart stole for Do Ya Think I'm Sexy — Ben sued and won, you'll be pleased to know). Before you ask, this mix was done in Ableton Live, so those ever-shifting live drummer beats from the 1970s would behave and sit where they were told.
