This week on Comes A Time, Luther Dickinson and Brandon "Taz" Niederauer join Oteil and Mike for an action-packed episode chock full of captivating conversation. Oteil, Luther and Taz discuss their connection to Col. Bruce Hampton and the impact that his teachings had on each of them, and Taz describes what it was like to play with Bootsy Collins. You'll also hear Luther ask Mike about the conceptual thought process behind joke delivery in stand-up comedy, and Mike's insightful comparisons between improvisational music and stand-up. Luther Dickinson is a guitarist and vocalist best known for his work in the North Mississippi Allstars, a soulful blues-rooted group that he co-founded with his brother Cody in 1996. The son of legendary Memphis record producer Jim Dickinson, Luther has lived a life decorated with music since he was an infant. His soaring slide guitar playing has landed him on stage with legendary artists like The Black Crowes and Phil Lesh, and when he speaks about music his thoughtful approach to his creative process is unmistakable. The Mississippi Allstars 2019 album Up and Rolling can be listened to here. Brandon "Taz" Niederauer is one of the most exciting guitar players in the world- and he's only 18 years old. Taz's talent has been readily apparent from a very young age, as he had already played with The Scorpions, Gregg Allman, Stevie Nicks, and Derek Trucks by the time he was 15. Needless to say, Taz is the premier name for young guitarists. His wildly energetic playing and expressive note selection have allowed him to stand as a beacon of light for instrumentalists in an increasingly digitized era of music, and his passion for his craft shines through when he speaks about it. ----------- This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Rob and Seth sit down with the ever-improving 16-year-old guitarist Brandon "Taz" Niederauer and learn how a performance at a Rock n Roll University event at a Mets game ultimately led Niederauer to Ellen DeGeneres, Gregg Allman, Col. Bruce Hampton and other musical luminaries. Brandon speaks of his teammates in his current band, and about how he has stepped up his own songwriting to provide material for the nationally touring act. Brandon talks about how he still gives a great deal of time to his schoolwork and makes sure to maintain his oldest friendships - yet still manages to find "pockets of time" to work on his music. We learn of his hometown of Dix Hills on Long Island in New York, where John Coltrane once lived. Taz expresses surprise to learn that 50 Cent also used to live there. Brandon talks about how his experience at the Roots, Rock, Revival camp found him enjoying quality time with musicians like Butch Trucks and Oteil Burbridge. Brandon proudly talks about his days at the Broadway musical School Of Rock including auditioning for Andrew Lloyd Webber and the day Stevie Nicks visited and collaborated. He also raves about his moments on stage with BB King and Derek Trucks and talks about his days with Col. Bruce Hampton from when George Porter Jr. introduced them until the Col. began his journey to the next dimension at Niederauer's feet. wTnS Sponsors: Polay + Clark 21st Century Accounting (Don't wait till April and get screwed, get Polayed) www.polayclark.com CBD Vermont: wTnS is sponsored by CBD Vermont, which partners with organic farms in Vermont to produce organically-grown hemp used in full spectrum extracts, available for sale at CBDVermont.com.
