For this episode on "As the Crow Flies," by Mel Gillman, Jam, Jeff, and JD are joined by Ryan Estrada. We talk about one of Ryan's favourite banned books. Is this a thoughtful story of alienation, doubt, microaggressions, and faith? Or is it, as one book banner summed it up, just “gender chaos?” We'll talk about the power of traditional media (by which I mean pencil crayons), libraries, and how not to be uncomfortable in nature. Music by Sleuth. Our next episode will be on "O Human Star" by Blue Delliquanti.
Jake and John got together and recorded this before turkey-day as an early Christmas gift for the world around them.
Traveling "as the crow flies," eating "like a bird," and being "free as a bird" are just a few of the sayings we use to describe everyday human actions and feelings. But these often don't take into account the birds' real activities, relative to their size.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter. This week on the SciFi TV Rewatch podcast we discuss the groundbreaking “choose your own adventure” episode “Bandersnatch.” While its thematic material revolves around the well explored fate vs free will motif, the technical aspects stand out. In our What We're Watching segment, Dave sheepishly admits to enjoying the Turkish Netflix series As the Crow Flies, and Wayne surprisingly praises the MCU film The Marvels. In Listener Feedback, Alan in England enjoys having the option to choose, and Fred from the Netherlands checks out Tony Shaloub in Monk. First saw The Hobbit in 6th after moving to Texas from Maryland. Inspired my Love of Dungeons & Dragons Story of transformation and overcoming fear. 70's songwriter feel with the minor chord change. Come Adventure With Me Lyrics and music Marc Gunn There's a secret door to a hall unknown Inside are fears that Turn me to stone Do I step forward Or head back home Which is the path for me I raise my head and Take one step more The ground it shakes. I look back to the door Feel like I'm caught and stuck to the floor And so I cut myself free * This world's a treasure that is full of strife Every moment can enrich your life Just face your dragons with the edge of a knife It's a better life you see Come adventure with me. There are ugly goblins doing scary things Deep down in dungeons there are magic rings Live or die with the riddles we bring You'll find your way through the dark My Precious life Has so many memories Fluttering birds, butterflies in trees My home is comfort, comfort is a breeze But there's another way to live So many wars. It's an endless fight To slay our dragons that soar through our night But I'm no coward. I'll do what is right. Before I make my way home. Now I'm back with stories that ring A truth That soars up on eagle wings Let's not forget the songs elves sing Oh the joy that they bring! 25:25 - Marc Gunn “Come Adventure With Me” from Come Adventure With Me 29:54 - CLOSING Thanks for listening to Pub Songs & Stories. You are very right, it is wonderful to be more involved in the community and help spread the fun and the joy of Celtic music and other aspects of the culture. And to think it all started 17 years ago when a friend told me about something called renaissance festivals. Celtic Pittsburgh is growing. My wife and son have joined in, as well as a friend. We had tables at the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, and the Ligonier Highland Games. Thanks to those events we have many more subscribers on our Facebook page, and I have learned about other events and other musicians and bands I had not heard of before. I have attached a few photos. The Irish festival was held on the site of an old steel mill in Rankin, Pa, just outside of Pittsburgh. In one photo, Sue Borowski's group, RichPatrick, can be seen performing at the Ligonier Highland Games. On Labor Day weekend, Sue and I were interviewed on the radio! It was an "I can't believe I am doing this" moment. If you care to have a listen, here is the link. Again, thank you! Woodland Folk sent some photos in September
