Today we are sitting down with entrepreneur, life coach and mama, Courtney Quinn aka @coachingwithcourt. Courtney shares what led her to her path as a life coach, how her childhood impacted her life choices, and how exactly she helps her clients remove blocks and live their best lives through her signature Aligned Action Method. We are talking about micro habits, morning routines, thriving in motherhood and work, and how to find alignment in life.  Courtney openly shares about the family dynamic she was raised in, and how growing up with a young single mom and alcoholic father impacted her and her career path. She talks about her first memory of her dad's drinking, the complicated emotions she felt when her dad got sober and the anger, abandonment and broken promises she endured. She share how they reconciled, the internal work she had to do in order to navigate it, the tools she used to support herself through the fear and discomfort and WHY she follows her own program every day.  We talk about what being a life coach actually means, how she helps clients break free from limiting beliefs and hurdles to live the lives they want, the biggest common denominator in feeling stuck, the most common pain points she sees in clients and the power of starting with “I FEEL”.  Courtney takes us through the process she uses with her clients, she breaks down her signature Aligned Action Method step by step for us, and highlights why the process of breaking through a belief sometimes has to be done OVER AND OVER. We get into the conversation about motherhood and careers, why we don't have to choose and how we can navigate “mom guilt” in a healthy way.  PLUS:  The impact and benefits of Micro habits and morning routines, the importance of knowing your aligned WHY, how to disrupt autopilot and busyness culture, and being grateful for what you have while giving yourself permission to want MORE. It's your birthright to feel this way, too! In this episode, we teach you how using our favorite nutrient analysis tool, Cronometer. In this chat, Eliisa tells a story that's familiar to so many of us: feeling frustrated with doing our best to stick to what we think is a "healthy" diet, while still not seeing results or feeling fatigued ad frustrated. Then, Eliisa learned about true nutrition - focusing on hitting 100% of micros and macros as a way to fuel her body rather than deprive it. As a result, her health, happiness and performance soared. This is a story we hear OVER AND OVER again in our clinic, as well, when people finally learn the secrets of nutrition that they didn't know before. We want you to have this story, too. Please note, if you have an active eating disorder or are triggered by discussions about food and calories, this is not a chat for you. We thank you for your service.Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they promised to defend. Rock & Roll was a big part of a soldier's down time that centered around the hooches and outposts of Vietnam. The music that was popular during the Vietnam War was, and is still, therapy. There are songs you can remember, and then there are songs you REALLY remember. Many of these songs will have a special meaning for you. This is followed up by Olivia Rodrigo's massive hit "Drivers License" brilliantly remixed by Dirty Disco. I continue to thank Mark from Dirty Disco for his generous releases and 4 of them feature in this set. 7th Heaven deliver their spin on Kelly Clarkson's "I Dare You" which has been covered by the charity Make A Difference Voices. Rozalla, Taylor Swift and Kylie Minogue edge the set into bigger room sounding territory. Australia's own Dan Slater & Zoe Badwi deliver a killer original track "We Are". Mel C, Dua Lipa and Demi Lovato round out the set with mixes from Andre Grossi, Brett Oosterhaus and Roland Belmares. Here in Australia, summer is fading but bars, clubs and dance floors are opening back up. I hope the rest of the world follows suit quickly. Hey you beautiful human you.I keep having this recurring daydream….I dream about what I would do if I woke up one week before Covid hit… with ALL of my knowledge from right now….It’s a strange fantasy where I SHORT the stock market on the perfect day before it crashes, and then immediately dump ALL of those winnings into Tesla or Bitcoin and become a Billionaire in a matter of months… :-)For some reason it’s so fun for me to think about…But then I realized something PROFOUND….Life is actually kind of like that dream scenario.Sure, we can’t know the future. But I think we can all agree that certain DECISIONS hold MUCH MORE WEIGHT than others, no?I mean it’s not even debate-able at this point…If you would have made a simple decision to invest in Tesla or Bitcoin back in March 2020, you would be quite wealthy right now. That one decision would have probably had more weight than everything else you did in 2020, right?Let me prove it to you.Let’s say you had 100k to invest. Bitcoin briefly hit $4,000 in March 2020.If you would have dumped ALL of it into Bitcoin, you’d have 25 Bitcoin. Today, with Bitcoin at $54,000, you would have $1,350,000.Be honest, would you have actually made $1,350,000 in 2020 in any other way, no matter how hard you tried? For most people, the answer would be no.Obviously, I’m not trying to shame anyone for not jumping in Bitcoin at 4k.Honestly, I wish I would have jumped in 10 years ago when it was like 1 cent! Haha. What I’m trying to illustrate is what I KEEP SAYING in this letter OVER AND OVER, that life is governed by the power rule, 1% of your decisions result in 99% of your important outcomes. And today, I want you to think about this in terms of acquiring KNOWLEDGE that allows you to make 1% decisions MORE OFTEN. If we can agree on these two things.1) Not all decisions are created equal2) Certain people PUSH us to make better decisions….It only follows that one of the most PRODUCTIVE things we can do, is seek WISE COUNSEL from other people.Proverbs 12:15 ESV / The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. This week, my business partner Taylor and I paid someone $25,000 for 4 hours of their time. Now, you may think that that is crazy, a waste of money, simply from the price tag. But I want to tell you something really important.99% of my success in life is the result of .001% of interactions that allowed me to see the world in a certain way and make better decisions. Obviously I haven’t “made it” or anywhere close. But I think people more successful than me would agree that ONE precious piece of advice is worth many millions of dollars, LITERALLY. There have been numerous examples for me where this is the case, that have generated multi-millions in sales…Specific Guidance on the format of Video Advertising (Attention Grabber, Hook, Breaking Down False Beliefs, Call to Action) Literally ONE element of ONE webpage (it’s honestly so powerful and patented that I can’t give any more detail than that haha)ONE livestream launching ONE recurring revenue productI could list out 20 more but you get the idea.Had these people not been in my life, and given me the IDEAS, everything would be different. So, to summarize, here’s what I would suggest if you want to be the most successful, the fastest. 1) Admit that you don’t know everything. Assume you know nothing, actually. 2) Find the person who is the BEST at what they do. You are not looking for the 99%, you are looking for the 1%. 3) Find a way to learn from that person. Pay up if you have to. But actually learn. Take notes. 4) Actually IMPLEMENT what you learn. Unfortunately, money doesn’t grow on trees and great ideas are just ideas until you implement them. ———I hope this helped a few of you, I know it’s probably advice you’ve heard before “get a mentor” blah blah blah…But I think the key here is understanding that not all mentors are created equal, and neither is all advice. I know too many people who are beating themselves up, working their butts off, trying to do things that they have no business doing. That’s great, I admire the hustle. Interview with Jessie Wagner

Bringin' it Backwards

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jessie Wagner over Zoom video! It’s been a long journey to center stage for Jessie Wagner. Having gained her greatest exposure to date by singing songs everyone knows the words to, on some of the world’s biggest stages, it’s only now, through sharing her own triumphs and pain, that the spotlight is shining directly on her at last. After logging thousands of miles as an in-demand vocalist on tour with Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Duran Duran, Kid Rock and most recently Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, Jessie Wagner reveals a very personal collection of songs with Shoes Droppin’, her debut solo album for Wicked Cool Records.Displaying an impressive range encompassing bluesy R&B, neo-soul, acoustic balladry and rock a la John Mayer’s more confessional side, Shoes maintains a unified sound rooted in ’60s and ’70s style production. The songs trace times of darkness and redemption for the Norfolk, Virginia native, now based in New York City, who also fronts the rock/soul band Army of the Underdog.“’Shoes Droppin’’ was the song I wrote when I was at my lowest point,” Jessie says of the stomping, bluesy title track which opens the album. “My ex went into cardiac arrest and almost died. He spent the next couple of years fighting to regain a semblance of his former existence, and because of that, my life was arrested in a strange way. I thought I’d have to give up my music career. I fought my way back from that, and ‘Shoes Droppin’’ is a testament to losing and regaining your faith in what is possible.”Recorded during downtime from the Little Steven world tour, the album was produced by drummer Dave Diamond (Bob Weir, Derek Trucks) with engineer Chris Laybourne. Seasoned soul guitarist Sherrod Barnes has the most co-writes with six; he’s previously written for or with Beyoncé, Angie Stone and Ashanti as well as recording with Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack and Queen Latifah. The album’s striking horn arrangements are by longtime Little Steven cohort Eddie Manion, who’s also worked with Bob Dylan, Diana Ross and Darlene Love.Wagner never expected singing in Stevie Van Zandt’s band would lead to being signed to his label for her own work. “When Stevie said he thought I was a real artist, I could’ve cried.” Jessie recalls. “After fighting to be heard in this industry for so long, it means so much for someone of his stature to say your voice is unique and needs to be heard.” Stevie says, “Her music is eclectic and unique and impossible to categorize, which makes her the perfect Wicked Cool artist.”“I started the year with a record deal, and then shortly after, the world fell apart in so many ways,” Jessie comments on the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’m happy that I have this album to look forward to. It gives me some purpose and determination.“This album really addresses every aspect of me as an artist. I don’t settle well in any box. I’ve hinted at that with my rock band Army of the Underdog. But this really shows my versatility – or my schizophrenia! I like that It’s honest and playful, with touches of hopelessness, but also the idea of redemption and faith.”After singing for so many legends, it was a special treat to arrange and sing both leads and harmonies for herself. “That’s something I love doing. After talking to Dave [Diamond] about how I thought ‘What You Get’ sounded like a Paul Simon song, I asked a friend how to say ‘This is me’ in Swahili and it sounded so beautiful. Then I had to figure out how to sing it and make it fit with the song.”The sassy soul of “Over And Over” already conquered satellite radio, to be followed in August by the girl group vibes of “End Of Time.” “Jorgen Kjaer sent me a piano idea and it made me want to write an Amy Winehouse type song.”Future single “My Darlin’, My Dear” has a slow burn kind of feel. “I had Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in mind. It was this person begging to be recognized for her worth, and it needed to be bluesy and gritty.” Another projected single, “Passin’ Me By,” is propelled by those crucial Manion-arranged horns.Pandemic conditions upended Jessie’s plans to tour on her own name this year. “That will be the dream realized,” Jessie says of the day when that will happen. In the meantime she’s doing live streaming shows and putting together several music videos and lyric videos within the constraints of social distancing. The latest Wicked Cool release distributed by The Orchard, Shoes Droppin’ is the next gem from the label whose 2020 slate also includes new music from Jesse Malin, WYLDLIFE, Ryan Hamilton & The Harlequin Ghosts, The Empty Hearts and Kurt Baker. We want to hear from you! Here's What I Don't Get

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 16, 2020 130:57

It's a chilly, foggy night. You find yourself walking the streets of your hometown once again. You recall the days of yore, running from house to house on Halloween night, holding out a pillowcase and getting it filled with literal pounds of sugar. Eerie vibes came from Mr. Jenkins' place, but if you were brave enough to get past the dead bodies and shrieking lady on the porch, you'd be rewarded with a handful of King-size candy bars. But now things are different. It's still cold, and maybe you're wearing a mask, but no longer do children run around in costume. They're either herded in a minivan safely from house to house or are doing the rounds at the local mall that hasn't gone under. You yourself have changed. You're older now, and perhaps you're in a costume, but its nothing extravagant. No fake blood or Batman cowl. You've lost the Halloween spirit and just go out drinking these days. What's the point, it's 2020 anyways, next week will bring even more depressing news. It turns out that Freddy and Jason should have been the least of your worries. The real monster all along was you.* Spooky Season* Storm Chasers* Halloween Movies* PoliticsThere's a conspiracy abound, folks. The Case of the "Spooky Season". Why have we gone from Halloween to "Spooky Season" or "Spookytime" or "Scary Days" or "Candy Month"? Is it the old Christians at it again? Blaming slasher flicks and Reese's Cups for letting Satan into our hearts? Or is it something more sinister? Perhaps its the deadly grasp of capitalism, wishing to take another Holiday and cram it into Christmas like many others have been. Soon enough we just might see orange and black Holiday decorations, and finally they can officially add September and October into the Holiday shopping season.Hey, i've got a great idea, lets load up a van with a bunch of expensive monitoring equipment and radar, load up on beef jerky and Pop-Tarts, and make our way through the plains of Oklahoma looking for high-speed funnels. Yeah, we'll go around videotaping wind, doesn't that sound great?! We can pretend it's exciting and cool! We can freak out and need to change pants because of ROTATION. Doesn't that sound absolutely magical?Much like a hack comedian doing a political bit about a potential Presidential candidate, setting your film on a holiday is a real gamble. It either makes the movie all about the holiday, forcing it squarely into a certain time of year where you can watch it and not feel like a psycho, or it simply is the backdrop and in that case, why bother? Its even worse with Halloween movies because it forces you to make a Holiday-worshipping horror movie all about pumpkins or whatever, or you've got a kid's movie. There's no in-between.Being told to do something makes people not want to do it. Being told to do something over and over can make a person go loopy. Being told to do 15 things multiple times a day every day can make a person want to KILL YOU. Vote. Voting isn't everything. Sign this. Raise awareness for that. Hate them. Don't hate them. Watch this. Cancel this person. Support this. Support that. Every day. Over and over. OVER AND OVER.All this and more on this week’s episode! The definition of Insanity: "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." We've all heard this. We all know this. Yet, so many of us do exactly this when it comes to achieving our goals. We get a plan in our head and we don't course-correct along the way to our goals...we do the same things OVER AND OVER again an expect to work. Isn't that definition of Insanity? Well, today, in this quick episode, I'm teaching you about one of my favorite practices - a weekly review and how it's the perfect solution to avoiding this exact pattern that so many of us fall into. Just 30-60 minutes each and every week and you save yourself from repeating the behaviors and habits that are sabotaging you. But you've gotta know what they are, right?! Today, I'm going to tell you about 3 important questions to ask during your review and HOW to use them! Keep this one handy and relisten to it next Sunday during your weekly review. In our latest episode, we are bringing one out from the Mackey Speaks Leadership Journal archive. This episode is power-packed, so make sure a pencil is at hand! Mackey talks about the idea of going the extra mile, and when you go the extra mile, your impact will be amplified. When you are willing to go the extra mile, when you are willing to do things that others are not, they realize that you are different. When you are willing to go the extra mile for someone and invest in them, that return on investment will come back and be a far greater commitment than you could have ever imagined. Takeaways from this podcast: Invest in the long term, continually. There is no such thing as a viral moment Your standard operating procedure should be to go the extra mile We often think of leadership as “going viral.” We think that if we can just get that one big position, or that one perfect podcast, or write the perfect blog post, then I’ll get noticed, and people will want to buy what we’re selling. But the problem with that thinking is that yes, a “viral moment” may get you noticed, but unless you’ve been putting in that “extra mile” effort, there’s nothing under the surface. There’s nothing for anybody to follow. You’ve got to invest in the long term OVER AND OVER. You build buy in with a lifetime of extra mile effort, not buy a quick, flash-in-the-pan viral moment.   Subscribe the the MSLJ: http://www.mackeyspeaks.com/subscribe-here/   Follow us on social: @2wordstv @mackeyspeaks @FullCurlColton   www.2words.tv

FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST  Today is a special day.  Today I share the FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST!  Today marks the 50th episode of Your Anxiety Toolkit Podcast.   I get a little sentimental during this one, but please stick with me. Let me start by saying that I am so grateful for reaching 50 episodes.  When I started this podcast, in my pjs in my kitchen with my sleeping baby next to me as I recorded my first episode, never in my wildest dreams could imagine what it would become.   From this podcast came CBTSchool.com, and from CBT school came a community that I could never have imagined. So Today, on this 50th episode, I celebrate YOU!    And, today I want to talk to you about what I have learned and a few of my favorite quotes that I live by (and I promise this will apply to you). In this episode, I share 5 lessons learned by hosting this podcast and I have lived by as I hosted this podcast.  I have to be honest.  I have learned SO much and I cannot wait to share the lessons with you.  I won't pretend it has all been easy.  It hasn't.  There was a couple of time that this podcast nearly didn't get made.   And, there were quite a few times it was made OVER AND OVER!  All I can say is that I am so grateful for your support and compassion as I bumped along. If you missed last weeks episode 49 The Content of Your Thoughts Are Not Important Thank you again for supporting me with this podcast and with CBT Schools online courses.  Please click here to find out more about Mindfulness School for OCD.
