John 7:5 For not even His brothers were believing in Him. Jesus had four brothers and at least two sisters. In this verse, we learn that at the time of these events, none of the brothers believed that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah. In Luke 8:21, when Jesus was told that his mother and brothers had arrived, Jesus said, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.” They eventually became believers and doers of the word of God. Those special to Jesus are those who take God's word and apply it to their lives. Those who live to love with Jesus are His brothers and sisters. They are doing what Jesus commanded when He said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34). He later said in John 15:5 that this can only be done as we abide in Him. I want to encourage you today that Jesus considers you His brother or sister if you are living to love with Him. Unlike Jesus' brothers at the time, you are expressing faith as you love others with Him. Let us rejoice today in being members of Jesus' family, His brothers and sisters who trust Him and do the word of God. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. The people in Malachi's day were withholding what was God's, and they were paying a price. Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. . . . — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 When I was an intern at Roseland Christian Ministries, Phil Walker was one of the first people who befriended me. Recently home from prison, Phil was working at a church summer camp. I was the only white person working there, but Phil made me feel welcome. “This is my brother,” he'd say, with his big arm around me—and he meant it. Phil would invite me to his grandmother Joellyn Walker's apartment after church on Sundays, where we'd eat and watch football. When I arrived, Ms. Walker would say, “Oh, my other grandson is joining us today.” After 25 years Phil and I remain brothers. He's looked after my sons. I officiated at his grandmother's funeral. We've both had our struggles. Ecclesiastes 4 says, “Two are better than one. . . . If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” That's been true for both of us. There's the family you're born into, and the family you choose. I'm grateful that Phil chose me as his brother. I hope you have had a brother, sister, or friend whom God has placed in your life to help you up when you've needed it. Thank God for them, and be sure to tell them and others you are grateful for them. Father, thank you for the gift of friends who lift us up when we fall. Their love reflects your grace. Bless them for their kindness, and strengthen us to be there for others in their times of need. For Jesus' sake, Amen.

In the Xinjiang region of western China, the government has rounded up and detained at least hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and other Muslim ethnic groups. Many haven't been heard from in years, and others are still desperately searching for their families. Western governments have called this crackdown a cultural genocide and a possible crime against humanity. NPR Correspondent Emily Feng has been reporting on Uyghurs inside and outside of China for years. In this episode, she profiles two Uyghur men who have found themselves sometimes unwilling actors within the Chinese state's systems of control over Uyghurs. As they work to silence others, they sometimes find themselves silenced as well.
