Black Wallstreeter Consultation Services (BWCS) was started by the father and son team, Kevon and Kamari Chisolm in 2018.   In 2020 started a nonprofit called Junior Wallstreeters, Inc., whose motto is: Empowering Youth with Financial Wellness.   We will talk about BWCS's primary goals which are to decrease the wealth gap in African - American communities. They focus on two areas: 1) helping others build wealth through investment clubs; and 2) empowering youth with financial wellness, which includes our financial literacy/investing curriculum and materials.

On this episode of LE Tech Talks, research specialist Quin Patterson spoke with BWC TTA Co-Director Dr. Mike White and Sturgis, MI Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak about the use of BWCs in training with Tempe PD and the Sturgis, MI PD. Mr. Patterson and Dr. White spoke about how Tempe PD uses BWC footage in de-escalation training, and the different insights that BWC footage when looking beyond just use of force videos. Director Banaszak spoke about the different trainings in Sturgis where BWCs are used, and the changes in practice that have resulted from that use.

In this episode of LE Tech Talks, subject matter expert Mary O'Connor spoke with Director of Security Ben Collins, Dr. Reena Chakraborty, and Dr. LaToya Welsey about the Washington, D.C. On this episode of LE Tech Talks, BWC TTA Outreach Coordinator and Analyst Quin Patterson sat down with Milwaukee, WI Police Chief Ed Flynn, and researchers Dr. Bryce Peterson and Dr. Dan Lawrence. Mr. Patterson, Chief Flynn, Dr. Peterson, and Dr. Lawrence discussed the assessment of the Milwaukee, WI Police Department's BWC program via a randomized controlled trial.   Throughout six months in 2016, patrol officers and sergeants from the Milwaukee, WI Police Department were involved in a randomized controlled trial. Dr. Peterson, Dr. Lawrence, and Chief Flynn spoke on what researchers and practitioners can learn from working with each other, community perceptions of BWCs in Milwaukee, WI, and findings from the randomized controlled trial.

On this episode of LE Tech Talks, BWC TTA Senior Advisor Charles Stephenson sat down with two BWC TTA Leads, Chief Harold Medlock (ret.) and Director Geoff Smith (ret.), to discuss what law enforcement agencies should consider when selecting mounting options for their BWCs. While a seemingly straightforward topic, if not carefully considered, tested, and evaluated BWC mounting can place a department in a precarious position, as issues with mounting can contribute to missing important footage during a critical incident. Chief Medlock noted that being involved in the TTA program for the last four years has helped him understand there is no one-size-fits-all solution for a department nor perfect mounting location. Director Smith emphasized the importance of training and evaluation when determining which type of BWC mounting a department should choose.

MEG NOTES What rights do you have when you're protesting?? If police aren't accountable, how can you protect yourself from criminal charges or worse yet – physical harm? 1.Can you protest? Individual under no obligation to answer questions -C. Stop / Investigative Detention: RAS person has committed a crime (ex. marijuana smell) a. No right to Miranda b. Pat down for safety if RAS armed and dangerous (example don't remove hands from pockets / furtive movement and then lie about it) (not a search) i. PC for weapon / contraband (search) -D. Arrest: Probable Cause a. Search Incident to Arrest 5. What if you are stopped and/or that stop escalates to an arrest? Am I free to leave? Don't argue Don't resist If under arrest: Ask why Don't argue Don't resist- even if you believe arrest is unlawful!! (Obstruction) Remain silent Ask for a lawyer Don't consent to any searches or anything -If you feel rights are being violated – take note of officer name / badge number -not all officers wear BWCs / have MVRs 6. What DOESN'T the First Amendment protect: Trespass on private property Disorderly conduct Hindering apprehension /OBSTRUCTION Excessive noise Looting Violence Resisting arrest Assault on officers 7. When can police use force? Officers trained on de-escalating situations and using least amount of force Oftentimes this doesn't happen and force escalates Use of force continuum: Constructive Authority (ex. Issues commands) Physical contact (ex. Hand on arm) Physical force (ex. Wrestling suspect to the ground) Mechanical force (ex. Use of baton, canine, chemical spray) Lethal – to protect officer or another from death or serious bodily harm Conclusion: Important to know and assert your Constitutional Rights – oftentimes as important, if not more important, to know the Limitations on those Rights to protect yourself from criminal charges and worse yet - physical harm

At one time Body Worn Cameras (BWC) seemed to be on the rise among America's law enforcement community. However, more recently, some PD's across the country are getting away from them. Support from communities across the country are solidly behind the opinion that cameras are a good thing and PD's should utilize them just like every other standard piece of police equipment. This episode we will explore the pros and cons of outfitting a PD with BWCs. We will analyze whether they are an effective tool for the community and police administration.

Holly Figueroa O’Reilly was crowdsourcing before crowdsourcing was cool. In 1999, she founded Indiegrrl, an organization for women in the independent music industry. What began as a small mailing list became a monster organization. Indiegrrl supported nearly five thousand female musicians internationally; they booked tours, shared resources, and helped one another get ahead in the male-dominated music industry. Since then, Holly has performed over one thousand tour dates, was a national co-organizer for “March for Truth”, is an administrative member of CrowdRescueHQ, and has sued the President of the United States for blocking her on Twitter. And won. Asked why she founded BWCS, she replied, “I was having a hard time keeping all of the 2018 candidates I supported in my Twitter group DM’s, so I started a Slack workspace for candidates mostly for myself. I invited some other folks concerned about the same thing to join me there. Before we knew it, there were hundreds of volunteers, campaign staff, and candidates all working together to increase their social media reach. I always tell people that the Blue Wave isn’t something that just happens. It’s something we MAKE happen, and this is one of the ways we can help make it happen.” Holly lives in Seattle with her husband, 5 kids, and way too many guitars.
