It's the second episode we recorded at the 2023 Williamstown Beer & Cider Festival and again a big big thank you to Shane and the team who turned on an amazing festival! It's a live recording so there's a bit of background noise but luckily Mik from Hopocrisy is still on hand to deal with the wandering saxophonist! First off we catch up with all the news from Kaiju, where there's a new brewer in town and some well-known recipes changing! We hear all about what's changed in 2023 and their plans for 2024 and after some effort from the team Davydd learns that the Kaiju Cantina isn't a cantina anymore! And then it's time to catch up with our friends from Noodledoof who have some great new beers to chat about - but who also catch Mik's eye with some spirits!

The first of two podcast recorded live at the 2023 Williamstown Beer and Cider Festival - huge thanks to Shane and festival team for welcoming us and putting together such an epic event. Due to this being a live show, and the roaming saxophonist who was playing at the festival, audio quality is not up to our highest standard, but we hope that you'll enjoy some great insights from some of Melbourne's best brewers.  In the absence of Mik from Hopocrisy returns to the show, this time as co-host to tell us all about the first two Willy beer festivals that he [almost] attended, as well as taking us on a little historical tour of the suburb. Then it's Tim from Coconspirators introducing us to a new creation as well as our old favourite The Hostess. We hear all about the changes he's seen in the local beer scene in 2023 and the brewery's plans for 2024 including Davydd's many guesses as to what kind of restaurant might open at the tap house. Then it's a chance to catch up again with Urban Alley, a year after we first encountered them at the last Williamstown Festival. We meet Ruth for the first time and hear about her story before arriving at UA and again get their insights into what's changed in Melbourne's beer scene in 2023.

Davydd and Warren headed out to Masterson's Bar in Moonee Ponds for a live show with Dough and Adam from Bells Beach Brewing in front of a great live audience! As ever with a live show there are a few audio issues to deal with [and a few forgetful host issues as well!] We hear the origin stories of the brewery and which they tried before finding success in the market. We enjoy a cracking yuzu beer and learn all about the fruit that makes it so special. And then it's on to a WCIPA and the opportunity to discuss the "staunch" rules the brewery follows when creating this style. Gill from Masterson's joins the chat and we explore which styles are hot at the moment, what makes a good beer rep and what are the best bits about doing a collaboration with one of your favourite breweries. Can we declare 2022 to finally be the Year of the Lager? And just which of the many quotes he comes up with would make the best t-shirt? Then even though we were supposed to be packing up Anthony from Bonehead drops past bringing Casey who brings not just Bonehead stories but also insights into his own venture Sobremesa.  We hear about his journey from wine-making to craft beer and which of the skills are transferrable and which would horrify his winemaking family. We learn about some huge awards he's recently one and all about the first ever core range beer from Sobremesa. As this was an outside broadcast the audio is not of the high quality we normally aim for but we trust you'll forgive us given the great stories on the show!

We started today's show with a quick soapbox rant about the ongoing death of the Great Barrier Reef... why do we not seem to care more about this?ANYWAY back to the food, or in this case the booze! The sixth annual Good Beer Week is coming up very soon, and Miro Bellini about the evolution of the festival, food matching with beer, and some of the awesome events to look out for.Next we spoke to author, TV host, and top-shelf tweeter Adam Liaw about one of our favourite cookbooks, Adam's Big Pot. We talked about the different influences on Australian cuisine, the continuing simplification of Adam's cooking, and the importance of seasoning and texture. To finish today's show, Kellybrook Winery's co-owner Phil Kelly spoke about the upcoming Cider Festival on the weekend of April 30. Kellybrook is a second-generation cider producer, and we discussed different varieties of cider, the different apples that go into it, and what exactly it means to "scrump".

We’re kicking off with a bit of news, Romy rambles about the Hotelier (no surprises here), we briefly touch on lyrics and what we like about them, then we launch straight into our albums of the week. Romy apologies for her general uselessness this week; dissertation writing is hard.
