Meet Lindsie: I'm passionate about a few things: My family (my husband and I have two young sons named Dante and Enzo) My community (I love being part of a real Vancouver neighbourhood) Travel (I even wrote a book about Traveling with Kids) Writing (Check out my latest article for REW.ca here) Wine (no need to explain!) People (my friends and my clients, who often become friends) Real Estate Being outdoors (especially hiking, SUP and biking) But I'm even more passionate about helping my clients find the home that is right for them. I specialize in helping families who have outgrown their current home, usually with the arrival of a wee one. Who knew someone so small could take up so much space? With the arrival of a baby, you start to think about things that you hadn't before. I love guiding clients through the process of finding the neighbourhood that they want to raise their children in. I also love helping first time home buyers through the excitement and nervousness of buying their first property. It doesn't have to be scary! WHERE I LIVE Before we had kids, my husband and I lived in a condo in Kits, which we adored. After our first son was born, our one bedroom and den condo suddenly became too small (sound familiar?!) so we bought a house near Commercial Drive in East Vancouver. If you live in the area and have kids, you've probably seen me around the playground, the ice rink or Community Centre at Trout Lake. If you live in the area and don't have kids, you've probably seen me shopping at Donald's Market, running around Trout Lake, sipping a coffee at The Prado cafe or enjoying a chocolate chip zucchini muffin at JJ Bean. WHICH NEIGHBORHOODS DO I SPECIALIZE IN? I work in all areas of Vancouver (including outside of Vancouver proper like North Van, Burnaby and Port Moody). I specialize in East Van because it's my 'hood and I know the schools, parks, restaurants, community centres and ammenities like the back of my hand. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT A portion of every one of my sales go to the Children's Miracle Network as well as Backpack Buddies. The children's hospitals supported by the Children's Miracle Network provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year. In Vancouver, our donations go directly to the BC Children's Hospital and last year, our RE/MAX office raised more than $24,105. Backpack Buddies is a unique program that addresses a very real need in Vancouver that most of us don't think about. There are many kids that attend inner city schools that rely on lunch programs throughout the school week. When the weekend rolls around, many of these kids will remain hungry until they return to school on Monday. Backpack Buddies provides a backpack filled with food for these kids to take home, because hunger doesn't take the weekend off. In 2002, I was a part of Joints in Motion, raising over $4,000 for the Arthritis Society of Canada and running my first marathon in Honolulu. In 2003 & 2005, I joined Team in Training, raising over $10,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. I also volunteer every year with the Vancouver Heritage Foundation and the Vancouver International Wine Festival (formerly the Playhouse International Wine Festival). I love heritage houses and wine! The City of North Van is no bedroom community. With sexy projects like the Shipyards, the Polygon Art Gallery, and new Lonsdale patios and covered seating, North Van is quickly becoming a destination city. In fact, the City has the lowest percentage of single-family homes of any Greater Vancouver municipality. The buzz now is all about market rentals, and affordable housing. First-term City of North Vancouver Councillor Tony Valente talks to Gordon about housing challenges, rapid buses, construction fatigue, and serving the mobility needs of this notoriously rainy, hilly city (hint: Tony rocks an Urban Arrow e-cargo bike). **********************************************The Viewpoint Podcast is a production of Viewpoint Vancouver. Welcome everybody back to another episode of WestVancouver.com / West Vancouver Magazine Podcast. Here in Hollywood North, we have lots of glam. And live on air with me today is one of those people who makes it all happen. We have Shawn Williamson here with us from Brightlight Pictures. It doesn't get any better than this when it comes to lights, camera – action! Shawn, thank you for joining us. Shawn Oh, thank you, my pleasure. Cat Now I can only imagine what you've seen over 20 years of movie-making, T.V. and films. You've been involved in all aspects of it. Rumour also has it you're from North Vancouver. So, where did this all start? Shawn Well, I did. I grew up in North Van. I went to Argyle. And so I'm a North Shore boy originally. But it started organically out of the theatre. I went to university for a very brief moment, and discovered it wasn't really for me, and ended up working at the Arts Club Theatre where I did an apprenticeship and ultimately worked in all kinds of different technical and behind the scenes positions over the years - and ended up there as a stage manager before I transitioned into film and television. Cat So you weren't the guy up front doing the tap-dancing - you were always the guy kind of behind the scenes helping put it all together? (laughs) Is that kind of accurate? Shawn I've never been on stage. (laughs) I have no talent whatsoever. So I'm very, very happy behind the camera. Cat Well, that's completely not true. Because you clearly have absolute mounds of talent to be able to survive in what is an incredibly difficult industry and sometimes made more difficult by the fact that you're Canadian. I know L.A. is a tough scene as well for anybody looking to make it big, but you've clearly made it big. So what exactly would you say your job title is? Tell us, what does somebody in your position do? What is your day like? (Use the timestamps below to forward ahead in the podcast above) Cast and Crew of ABC's The Good Doctor - from left, David Shore, Shawn Williamson and Freddie Highmore. Photo credit: Sony Pictures Used with Permission 02:47 - Shawn Well, it really does vary. Different producers do very different jobs. Some are working in development, finding scripts and packaging them, or putting them together with other talent, with actors, directors and studio money. And some producers, which is how I started, just grew up making movies. Vancouver has generally been a destination for foreign films. And it certainly now has blossomed and grown and matured into a proper production destination where you can finance and package films. But earlier on, it was a destination. So I grew up in the industry making movies and television shows for U.S. studios or foreign financiers. And so, part of my job originally was simply to make the movie. And you are effectively the employer on set. You're the person that deals with the creative elements. You juggle all the elements that you would think - actors, directors, the studio's desires, and the script. So you have a budget you're working towards, and you're spending effectively every part of that budget. But it's largely people management, and our philosophical view in producing comes from what I learned at the Arts Club as a stage manager. 05:36 - Cat Wow, well, I'm going to guess that there isn't a producer's school - this is something you had to really get in and get your hands on, as you said, use your experience. But it sounds like you really need to hone your focus and your talents on keeping all these balls in the air. I imagine the bigger the story, the bigger the script, and the bigger the cast, the more it can really run wildly out of control. So that sounds like that's the hardest part – but what is the best part of your job? 06:18 - Shawn The best part is the people – and telling stories. We're making television, we're telling stories, we're making films and such - it doesn't really matter when yo...

Bradly Hall, owner of ‘Savary Island Pie Company’, chats with Steph this week and shares the courageous story of how his Mom, Eileen, founded a baking business out of necessity over 30 years ago. The ‘Savary Island Pie Company’ started from humble of beginnings, but allowed Eileen to survive as a single mother, and to emerge from poverty as a female business owner. The company continues to thrive in it’s second brick and mortar location on Marine Drive, just across the street from its original store front beside ‘Bean Around the World’, where Eileen enjoyed an strong cup of coffee with her slice of pie. Although Eileen has given the reigns of the business over to family, her legacy remains, and her perfectly flawed (and controversial) reheating instruction remain on the pie boxes today. Keep an eye out for the Savary Island Pie Company’s second location opening in Tofino this summer. Visit them in North Van, in Tofino this summer, order online, or find them in your local grocery store!! http://savaryislandpiecompany.com
