This week I sat down with Dane Henry, and honestly this one had me fired up from the start.Dane is 19 years old and has already done something that only Tom Curren, Gabriel Medina, and Jordy Smith have ever done before him — win both the ISA Open World title and the ISA Under-18 World Junior title. He then went on to claim the WSL World Junior Championship in the Philippines in January, cementing himself as one of the most exciting surfers on the planet right now.We also got to talk about his wildcard appearance at Bells Beach this year, where he went toe-to-toe with world number two Griffin Colapinto and came within a whisker of pulling off one of the all-time upsets in a heat that had everyone talking. This conversation covers all of it — where the journey started, what it actually takes to win at the highest level, the mindset behind three world titles in under two years, and what is driving him as he sets his sights on the Championship Tour.Dane is humble, grounded, and absolutely locked in. This one is for anyone who loves surfing, or who wants to understand what it looks like when a young person goes all in on their dream. In this episode we cover:How Dane got into surfing and where it all beganWinning the ISA Under-18 World Junior titleClaiming the ISA Open World Surfing Games gold medalBecoming WSL World Junior Champion in the PhilippinesJoining Tom Curren, Gabriel Medina and Jordy Smith in the history booksHis wildcard at Bells Beach and that heat against Griffin ColapintoThe mindset and preparation behind three world titles in under two yearsWhat is next and his goals on the Challenger Series and beyondFollow DaneInstagram https://www.instagram.com/danehenry_/Follow Cooper and TGHF1% Good Club Book (use code PODCAST for 25% off) https://www.thegoodhumanfactory.com/products/1-good-club-bookInstagram https://www.instagram.com/cooperchapman/TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@cooperchapman_LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/cooper-chapman-08a278151/Workshop and Speaking Enquiries https://form.typeform.com/to/DSPSnvEHThe Good Human Factory Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thegoodhumanfactory/The Good Human Factory https://www.thegoodhumanfactory.comTHE GOOD HUMAN FACTORY™️ 2020 Hosted on Acast. The sun has set on the Western Australia Margaret River Pro, and Lakey Peterson and George Pittar leave Margs walking on a dream after their victories.  An insatiable run to the Finals for George Pittar included three Brazilian World Champions before facing 3x World Champion Gabriel Medina in a Final clash. Pittar kept believing and the scores kept coming, posting a 9.00 after judges deemed Medina's effort for a wave lost him priority and Pittar capitalized for his maiden CT win. For Peterson, it marks her first CT win since 2023 and a second in the Wild West after overcoming a World Champion and fellow Rookie of the Year on the way to her momentous win, sending her atop the rankings.  Another Final appearance at Margaret for Medina sends him to No. 1 leaving the Wild West, with fellow Brazilian competitor Luana Silva earning a second-career CT runner-up. The Brazilian Storm is well and truly established leaving the West, encompassing four Top 5 spots on the men's side and Silva sitting at No. 4.  The GWM Aussie Trebel Leaderboard is shifting with Medina and Bryan taking the reigns to the Gold Coast, and the final stop to claim a new set of wheels. Plus, the Boost Mobile Heat of the Day belonged to Medina and Samuel Pupo's Bells Beach rematch, and major shifts in the Surfboard Empire Shaper Rankings Presented by VEIA have Channel Islands right at the top. Now, the Dream Tour heads for the pristine sand banks of Rainbow Bay and the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro Presented by GWM May 1 through 11. We defended DJ Got Us Falling In Love's honour after a band called it absolute garbage on Triple J. We spun the wheel and played Tim's Top 5. A reporter at the Sydney Fish Market got bitten by a crab on live TV and immediately had it cooked, which is the most justified act of revenge we have ever seen. Glenn Robbins came in ahead of tonight's Celebrity Intervention premiere on Channel 7 and revealed he once watched Tim get destroyed by waves at Bells Beach. Tim and Justin Bieber have one very specific thing in common: YouTube Premium. Justin Bieber showed up at Coachella in today's Glossys. Ricki nearly choked to death on a piece of steak which is especially concerning given Neil Perry just taught us how to cook one properly. Winkipop delivered moments of sheer brilliance leading to Bryan's powerful statement over reigning World Champion Molly Picklum before a historic men's Final witnessed the people's champ, Pupo, overtake 25' World Champ Yago Dora. Pupo's road to the Final included defiant wins over Barron Mamiya and 2025 World Title contender Griffin Colapinto before matching with Dora in the first all-Brazilian Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Final, and first all-goofy-footed Final in 33 years.  Bryan overpowered the likes of World Champion dismantler Luana Silva in the Quarters, an in-form CT returner Alyssa Spencer, and a masterful Final showing against Picklum to ring her first-ever Bell. Now, Bryan heads back to the Western Australia Margaret River Pro wearing yellow and leading the GWM Aussie Treble rankings alongside Pupo.  The Boost Mobile Heat of the Day will go down in Bells Beach lore with Dora's undeniable air to post a 9.50 as time expired to surpass 3x World Champ Gabriel Medina. He talks about building a mentorship with one of his heroes, preparing mentally for his first CT appearance, and why he's approaching the event to “ruin dreams.” The conversation also dives into his upbringing in Fingal Head, a sports-driven family background, and how rugby, skating, and motocross shaped his athleticism. The Surfer’s Journal presents Soundings with Jamie Brisick

Born in California in 1948, Jeff Hakman's father introduced him to surfing at age eight. Four years later, the family moved to Oahu, and the year after that, at the age of 13, Hakman surfed Waimea Bay for the first time. In 1965, he was invited to the inaugural Duke Kahanamoku Invitational, held at Sunset Beach. Hakman was 17. He won. In the ensuing years, on his Dick Brewer-shaped boards, Hakman transitioned seamlessly from longboards to shortboards—and went on a winning streak. He won the Duke again in '70 and '71; won the first Pipe Masters in '71; won the Hang Ten Pro and Gunston 500 in '72; and the Hang Ten again in '73. Bookending his stellar competitive run, he won the Bells Beach event in 1976. After winning that event, Hakman sat down with the owners of a fledgling Aussie brand called Quiksilver and convinced them to make him the US licensee. Today, Hakman lives in Bidart, France, where he sits down with Jamie Brisick for this episode of Soundings to talk about surfboard design, growing up on the North Shore, the birth of the surf industry, humility, and the challenge of returning to an everyday existence after living the extraordinary.

Our guest in this episode is Jem Fuller, a leadership and culture coach and author from the beautiful Bells Beach, Victoria. For over a decade, Jem has been guiding people on profound journeys, both literally to the Himalayas and metaphorically inward, to help them build frameworks for genuine connection and purpose. In our wonderful chat, Jem shares his evolved mission to combat the modern malady of disconnection. We explore his powerful concept of finding your "4% genius zone" and his unique, optimistic view on using AI as a tool to give us back the time for what truly matters: our human relationships. Key points discussed include:* Find your 4% genius zone by courageously focusing on what you love and do best.* True fulfillment comes from stripping away the noise and reconnecting with yourself, others, and a greater purpose.* In the age of AI, our human imperfection and shared felt experiences become our most valuable assets.Listen to the podcast to find out more.Innovabiz Substack is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Show Notes from this episode with Jem FullerIt was an absolute delight to welcome Jem Fuller, leadership coach and philosopher-guide, back to the Innovabuzz podcast for his third visit. It's been nine years since our first chat, and in that time, Jem's mission has deepened in the most remarkable ways. He continues to explore the frameworks that allow us to truly connect with ourselves and others, but now he's applying that wisdom to some of the biggest questions of our time, from finding our true purpose to navigating the age of AI with our humanity intact. Our conversation was a powerful reminder that the journey inward is the most important one we can take. Jem shared his own evolution, driven by a global community of peers who challenged him to crystallize his work down to its most potent essence. It's a journey that has led him to create profound, life-altering experiences for others while building a philanthropic legacy aimed at creating waves of positive change in the world.Finding Your 4%: The Courage to Live in Your Genius ZoneOne of the most profound ideas Jem shared was the concept of finding your "4%." He explained the well-known 80/20 rule, but then challenged us to take it a step further: apply the rule to that potent 20% to discover the 4% of your work that is truly your genius. This is the space where you deliver the most value, the work you truly love, and where time seems to disappear because you're in a state of flow. But this isn't just a productivity hack; it's an act of courage. It requires us to consciously cut out the noise and the tasks that drain us, even if they feel important, to build a life where we spend most of our time in that genius zone. For Jem, this meant redesigning his entire approach to his work, leading to a model that creates immense impact not just for his clients, but for communities in need. The Himalayan Journey: Stripping Away the Layers to Find MeaningNowhere is this focus more evident than in Jem's redesigned Himalayan program. He shared the powerful narrative of this journey, which consciously guides clients from a world of opulence and all the stuff money can buy, to the raw, humbling simplicity of the remote mountains. Guests start in the finest hotels and end up drinking chai in a slum, invited as guests, not tourists. This process is a careful, deliberate stripping away of the external layers we all carry.By peeling back the noise, the distractions, and the societal definitions of success, the program creates a space for people to ask the biggest questions: Who am I beneath all these roles? And why am I here? It's a journey that culminates not in a simple return to normal life, but in a rebuilt foundation where inner peace and a passion for meaningful contribution become the new true north. Our Great Disconnection: The Path Back to Ourselves and Each OtherAt the heart of Jem's philosophy is a diagnosis of our modern malady: disconnection. He believes we have become disconnected from each other, from ourselves, and from the reality that we are all intrinsically part of the same greater system. We're pushed apart by algorithms and distracted by the busyness of life, forgetting that we have far more in common than we have in difference. The antidote, Jem suggests, is to consciously remember and reinvest in connection. This involves reconnecting with the essence of who we are, deepening our bonds with other humans, and finding a sense of purpose that extends beyond ourselves. It's a simple truth, yet profoundly challenging in a world that constantly pulls our attention elsewhere. The Midwifery of AI: Nurturing Technology to Reclaim Our TimeIn a fascinating turn, Jem applies this philosophy of connection to the rise of Artificial Intelligence. As a self-proclaimed "default optimist," he sees incredible potential in AI, not as a replacement for humanity, but as a tool to restore it. He shared the beautiful metaphor of our role being the "midwifery of this emerging intelligence," suggesting we have a responsibility to nurture it with integrity, compassion, and care.Jem's hope is that AI will give us back the gift of time by handling the tasks that consume our days. If we are conscious and clever enough, he argues, we can reinvest that reclaimed time where it matters most: in our human-to-human relationships. Imagine having the space to grab a coffee with a colleague, not to talk about work, but to simply ask, "How are you?"The Value of Our Imperfection: Why Humanity is Our Greatest AssetThis led to one of the most beautiful points of our conversation. As AI becomes more "perfect," Jem argues that our human imperfections will become our most valuable asset. The moments when our voice trembles during a tough conversation, when we stumble over our words, or when we sit in shared empathy with another person—these are the things AI can never replicate. This shared felt experience is uniquely human. The ability to feel awe at a rainbow, to create art through blood, sweat, and tears, or to offer compassion to another are the cornerstones of our relevance. It's a powerful reframe that urges us to lean into our messy, beautiful humanity rather than chase an impossible standard of perfection.A Simple Invitation: The Transformative Power of the PauseTo bring these big ideas into our daily lives, Jem left us with a wonderfully simple and actionable step. He invites us to take a sticky note, write the word "Pause," and place it next to an existing daily habit, like our coffee machine. When you see the note, simply pause. Take three deep breaths before you continue with your task. This tiny ritual is an invitation to create a small pocket of presence in your day. Over time, the habit becomes ingrained, and the pause becomes a natural moment to reconnect with yourself. It's a reminder that the journey to greater connection and meaning doesn't have to start with a grand gesture; it can begin with a single, conscious breath. In Summary: My conversation with Jem Fuller was a masterclass in conscious living. His message is a powerful call to action: find the courage to focus on your true genius, strip away the noise to reconnect with what matters, and embrace technology not as an escape, but as a bridge back to our shared humanity. By cherishing our imperfections and creating moments of pause, we can begin to build a more connected and meaningful life, one breath at a time. The Buzz - Our Innovation RoundHere are Jem's answers to the questions of our innovation round. Listen to the conversation to get the full scoop.* Most innovative use of AI to enhance human relationships – Building an executive team of AIs to handle strategy, explicitly to give humans more time for their relationships.* Best thing to integrate AI and human connection – Consciously training his AI assistant to prompt him to switch off his computer and connect with real people.* Differentiate by leveraging AI – Do the things AI can't, like handwriting a Christmas card or picking up the phone to personally celebrate someone.ActionGet a sticky note and write the word "Pause" on it. Stick it next to an existing daily habit, like your coffee machine, and when you see it, take three breaths before you continue.Reach OutYou can reach out and thank Jem on his website, JemFuller.com, or directly via email at jem@jemfuller.com. It's a huge episode featuring the interviews we recorded at this year's Obsidian Beer Festival featuring Prancing Pony, Dollar Bill, Noodledoof and Bells Beach Brewing. Once again a huge thank you to Tom and all the team at the festival for inviting us to be part of the shenanigans and also to today's guest co-host Ian McNally of the infamous rival podcast. We kick off today with Corinna from Prancing Pony sharing all that Frank kept secret in Episode 267 [check it out if you're a prancing pony fan!] especially about why they named their festival beer "Freakshow". Then after a year away from the podcast Fi from Dollar Bill returns to share some good news about recent beer awards but also some less than good news about the brewery's ongoing discussions with Council. Next up it's Sam from Noodledoof with a beer that "shouldn't be legal" and a heap of good yarns from down Koroit way and who also weighs in on what makes regional beer festivals so much fun. And we round things out with Adam from Bells Beach with a run down of everything that's been going on at the brewery since the last time they were on the show and insights into what led them to create their festival beers! Ian alleges that people from Bendigo are "flimsy" and Davydd threatens to start a new band called "Accordion Flux" before we finally decide that it's time to turn the microphones off...

The WSL dropped a bomb on the surf world this week, and like Swedish captives, we all collectively cheered. On this episode of The Drop, Stab's co-founder Sam McIntosh is joined by the WSL's new CEO Ryan Crosby to discuss the League's major (and widely lauded) around for the 2026 CT season. Here's the TLDR version, ICYMI:
- The Final Five is dead.
- So is the mid-year cut
- So is the non-elimination opening round
- The 2026 Championship Tour will feature 12 events — with a late season ‘playoff'.
- It will start at Bells Beach in April and end at Pipeline in December, where points will be weighted at 150%.
- World Titles will once again be decided by cumulative points, not a single-day shootout. After that, Mikey and Buck hop on to discuss a few other stories from the week, including an incredible Greg Browning eulogy, a piece on lineup personalities, and an academic excuse for surfing more.
