Calvin Lin is the coach for the University of Texas at Austin men's ultimate team TUFF. He has been the coach for TUFF since 1996 leading the program to College Nationals 13 times, finishing 3rd in 2009 and 5th a total of seven times. TUFF has won their region 9 times and Calvin has been named South-Central Region Coach of the Year twice and South Region Coach of the Year once. Along with coaching, Calvin played for the first Seattle Sockeye team as well as the Houston Houndz and Austin Doublewide. He has won 2 USA Ultimate Master's Championships, 1 Great Grandmasters Championship, and one World Ultimate Club Championship. In this interview, Calvin shares about his early playing days playing with the team in Seattle that would eventually become Sockeye and his experience on the first Austin Doublewide team. At her core, Hope is the ultimate competitor and uses that drive to propel her through all avenues of the Sport. Now, what make Hope so remarkable? Hope has been involved in the sport in so many wide ranging ways. As you learn through out conversation, Hope was a Top Junior player who then went on be a Top ranked College player both in Team and Individual rankings while attending Harvard University. After college, she continued to work on her game to be a part of Team USA, representing the red, white and blue at the World Team Championships and Pan-American Fed Cup. Her focus and drive extended into Master’s level squash, winning four British Open Master’s and placing top three at the World Master's Championships. After Coaching for a while, Hope decided to explore another avenue of the sport, which is so crucial and often neglected. That is the role of an Official (or Referee.) Similar to other sports, there are different levels but in quick order, Hope has risen to the highest level, sitting in the hot seat for Men's World Team Championships, U.S. Open and College Nationals. Hope is the ultimate blend of a being a cheerlead, super-fan and competitor. When, she is not found on the squash courts, Hope takes to the ice, court or field to serenade Stadiums with the National Anthem like she did at Fenway Park for the Redsox’s. He helped build an X-ray observational satellite orbiting the Earth as part of a multi-billion-dollar decade-plus mission led by the European Space Agency with NASA. He left academia to co-found a venture, Submedia, to bring to market his invention—a technology to show motion-pictures to subway riders moving between stations—starting the field of commercial in-tunnel motion-pictures. Submedia has grown worldwide to install dozens of displays in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He holds six patents.
