A Sky News investigation has uncovered the complex gang network using stickers on lampposts and e-bikes to expand their cannabis home delivery operation. Led by open-source intelligence (OSINT) producer Sam Doak and data and forensics correspondent Tom Cheshire, the team tried to track down and even went to the homes allegedly at the heart of a drug ring responsible for stickers found in a number of cities across the UK. On today's episode of the Sky News Daily, listen to how the investigation exposes how dark web merchants are coming out of the shadows and into broad daylight and what are the police doing about it. Sky News contacted the National Crime Agency about our findings. They said: “Many organised crime groups selling drugs use social media and communication platforms to promote and sell their illicit produce," it said in a statement. “The NCA is working with partners across law enforcement and government to tackle drug trafficking."Producer: Emily Hulme and Emma Rae WoodhouseEditor: Philly Beaumont Extra journalism: Henry Vaughan
The podcaster sits in the hot seat. Private Club Radio's Denny Corby joins the Beyond The Baselines podcast and talks everything private member clubs. If a listener gets one thing out of just one of his podcasts, it means the world to Corby, the host of the biggest podcast in club management. “Your vibe attracts your tribe,” says Corby who took over Private Club Radio several years ago. Denny Corby As personal friends, Ed Shanaphy, our host, and Denny talk movies and fashion through to club management and the two organizations, the CMAA and the NCA, which dominate the industry. We ask the question if clubs actually compete against each other. As an industry, management shares more and more each year, but perhaps clubs and members see it differently. Various factors are behind how prospective members look at possible membership at clubs and future members may have various motivations to join a social group. Clubs are rebranding themselves with an eye toward legacy and the younger generations. And in attempting to attract that younger-aged member, clubs have been relaxing the dress codes and looking for more family-friendly events. We discuss how rebranding a club can, in an odd way, be similar to rebranding our respective podcasts. Clubs usually find a niche and present themselves within that special market. Most podcasts survive within a niche. And Corby has found his crowd for sure as his podcast is the leader in the private members club arena. We have both realized that the CMAA World Conference is so grand that, for business reasons, it's truly important to also attend the various chapters conferences to get even further inside the community of club managers, vendors and association members.

If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description.West Virginia is the first state to begin the process of banning a wide range of food dyes and other synthetic food preservatives, something strictly contrasted by their leading the nation in obesity and being overweight, not to mention the state having the highest of the former for children, the highest rate of high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, and being a leader in obesity-related death, and hypertension. But you have to start somewhere. Other states are following, from Oklahoma to New York. This comes immediately after a meeting between RFK Jr and the CEOs of PepsiCo North America, Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, W.K. Kellogg and J.M. Smucker. Some proposed laws would also require food companies to disclose “secret” food ingredients to the public that have been allowed into the marketplace under a federal standard known as “generally recognized as safe”, or GRAS, a term that acts like a rubber stamp for fraud. The National Confectioners Association (NCA) said that the measures “will make food significantly more expensive for, and significantly less accessible to, people in the states that pass them.” The association also said the federal government – in the form of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – should be the final arbiter for food additives. But this is not food, and the FDA cannot be the final arbiter of food additives when it is essentially run by the industry it is supposed to regulate. Men's Health magazine goes on to parrot the same NCA talking points: “Processed foods are safe, inexpensive, and capable of delivering nutrition—especially to people of lower-income and/or living in food deserts, where fresh food is hard to find. In fact, healthy food prices are increasing at a rate almost double that of unhealthy foods.”This argument is similar to the one used by biotech, claiming for decades that their products and patents would lower the cost of food. They haven't. In a write up for the same Men's Health magazine, Abby Langer, R.D., MH nutrition advisor, repeats another talking point: “Banning dyes stirs up unnecessary anxiety around the food system, which is the safest it has ever been.” When a recent laboratory report was published on Girl Scout cookies, demonstrating the high levels of heavy metals and chemicals, the FDA said naturally-occurring heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury are just a “reality about our food supply.” Abby then goes on to parrot the NCA by opposing bans over the issue of cost: the banning of these dyes may drive up food prices as companies scramble to find alternatives, furthering the issue of food security, Langer says. "Nobody thinks that Fruity Pebbles and candy are health foods; however, when ultra-processed foods are the cheapest and most accessible option, that's where the problem lies," Langer says. "I consider the entire food dye conversation a distraction from what we really should be focusing on: access to healthy foods, access to healthcare, nutrition education in schools, grocery prices, and food deserts."But food deserts only affect 13% of the population, while the poorest residents tend to live in cities. Those in the so-called deserts usually have the means to travel the 1-20 mile which constitutes a desert, or they have the ability to order food. This same argument is being use Axios to defend SNAP allowing for the purchase of junk: “There are a number of risks with the proposal to cut foods from SNAP, including logistical and cost concerns, access in food deserts, equity issues and questions over how to measure success and behavioral changes among consumers.”These are the same arguments that have been used by industry and their PR representatives for decades, like when, 12 years ago, so called journalists claimed McDonald's was the “cheapest and most nutritious food in human history.”Food industry advocates have protested efforts to ban the additives, citing what they say is a lack of proof that the chemicals are harmful to people, and arguing such laws will raise food prices. Thus the argument has shifted from defending this trash as “food” to justifying its as “junk.”In other news, the Girl Scouts are being sued for their garbage cookies.-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITECashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

The National Children's Alliance (or NCA) is a Washington, D.C.-based network of almost 1,000 Children's Advocacy Centers (or CACs) across the United States. These centers offer crucial services to children affected by abuse, providing them with a safe space to share their stories and access a diverse team of professionals, from health practitioners to law enforcement. CACs have trained nearly 1.6 million people in child abuse prevention, and last year alone, CACs served over 380,000 children. But with this year's $600,000 cut to the Victims of Crime Act funding, CACs now face dire challenges. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with Teresa Huizar, CEO of the NCA, to discuss what these cuts mean for CACs and the vulnerable children who rely on them. We explore how these centers operate, the impact of the funding loss, and various child abuse-related topics. Teresa's insights emphasize why advocacy and support for these centers have never been more urgent.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod Cover photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash. You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. In this episode, we are joined by Lisa Plaggemier, Executive Director of the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), to discuss the NCA's mission, current initiatives, and the importance of cybersecurity education. They highlight key programs, their collaboration with CISA on cybersecurity campaigns, and their efforts to simplify cybersecurity for the public and businesses. The conversation touches on challenges in public awareness, the role of AI in cybersecurity, and special initiatives for small businesses and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Tune in to learn how cybersecurity affects everyone from teens to seniors, and what you can do to stay safe online.Key Takeaways:The NCA's Mission: The NCA focuses on educating people of all ages, especially those entering or leaving the workforce, on simple yet impactful cybersecurity practices.“Our mission is really around public education… those not yet in the workforce—maybe in their teens or 20s—and folks no longer in the workforce.”Collaboration with CISA: The NCA values its partnership with CISA, which has amplified cybersecurity messaging through larger campaigns and public service announcements (PSAs).“They've put more budget behind things like PSAs and developing the campaign.”Simplifying Cybersecurity for the Public: The NCA's focus is on encouraging a few basic, effective security behaviors, such as enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA).“If we could get large portions of the public to make a couple of simple changes, what would make the biggest dent in global cybercrime?”Cybersecurity and Small Businesses: The NCA's Cyber Secure My Business program helps small business owners treat cybersecurity as a business risk and improve conversations with their IT service providers. “Teaching them how to manage security as a business risk and have a quality conversation with their MSP or IT provider.”Educating First-Generation College Students at HBCUs: NCA has launched programs to help first-gen students at HBCUs discover cybersecurity career opportunities.“We focus on all the different cybersecurity roles to help them find something they'll be happy doing.”AI and Cybersecurity Concerns: The podcast explores public trust in AI and generational differences in perception, with older individuals being more skeptical of AI technologies.“[Unsurprisingly] it turns out older folks don't trust it as much as younger folks!”Supporting Aging Adults Against Cybercrime: Lisa and Rob talk about the challenges older adults face with cybercrime and how the NCA is working to educate seniors and their caregivers. “The data on cybercrime losses with aging adults is just gutting…”The Kubicle campaign: A humorous yet educational series showing how hackers work like regular employees, aimed at making cybersecurity relatable to a broader audience. “The campaign had over 8 million views… showing people that hackers are sitting in cubicles like the rest of us.”Follow or subscribe to the show on your preferred podcast platform.Share the show with others in the cybersecurity world.Get in touch via reimaginingcyber@gmail.com
This episode of Ecotextile Talks explores the legal challenge facing fast fashion company Shein as it considers listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). In the summer UK based charity, Stop Uyghur Genocide, asked the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to reject any potential request from Shein to list on the LSE. At the moment, we don't know for sure whether Shein has submitted a request to the FCA so as we all wait, we thought that it would helpful for a lawyer to take us inside the legal case against Shein's listing on the London Stock Exchange. Not just any lawyer, but the one representing Stop Uyghur Genocide, Ricardo Gama from the UK law firm Leigh Day. We discuss: The legal basis for opposing Shein's potential listing, focusing on the UK Modern Slavery Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act. How these laws could apply to Shein's operations, even though the company produces goods outside the UK. The alleged evidence presented to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regarding forced labor in the Uyghur region and its alleged connection to Shein's supply chain. Shein's response to the allegations and correspondence from Leigh Day The potential next steps in the legal process, including the possibility of a judicial review if the Financial Conduct Authority approves any potential Shein's listing. In the interests of balance and journalistic integrity, we emailed Shein on 25th September to give it an opportunity to respond to the allegations being made in this podcast by Leigh Day, on behalf of Stop Uyghur Genocide, in particular that its supply chain allegedly features forced labour, and the consequential handling of criminal property in breach of the UK Proceeds of Crime Act. We asked Shein for either a recorded interview to include at the end of this podcast, or a written statement but as of September 30th no one from Shein had replied. In the podcast we also invited Shein to record a follow-up podcast with us, to respond to the content of this one. If you would like to read more about the, "NCA and its failure to investigate imports linked to forced labour - see this Guardian article If you're interested in this issue, then you might like to listen to another recent edition of Ecotextile Talks entitled: "Can we trust textile factory audits in China?" which has an interview with the Executive Director of the Worker Rights Consortium, Scott Nova.
